Axl Rose And AC/DC Spotted Leaving Same Rehearsal Studio(TeamRock Radio)

The wild rumor of Axl Rose singing in AC/DC might actually be true. Rose has reportedly been spotted leaving a rehearsal studio in Atlanta apparently on the same day as members of AC/DC - adding fuel to rumors that he is being lined up as a possible replacement for Brian Johnson.
The rumors of Rose taking on the guest vocal role with the group began last week that the Guns N' Roses frontman was in Atlanta, Georgia, to meet with members of AC/DC, who recently had to reschedule a number of shows after their singer Johnson was ordered to stop touring or risk going deaf. AC/DC indicated their intention to play the shows with a guest vocalist.

A local DJ in Georgia said he had it on good authority that Rose was set to guest with AC/DC, and Malcolm Young's son Ross reportedly said on Facebook: "It's true." Ross Young had posted a link to a story about Rose working with AC/DC, but his link was later deleted.

AC/DC then responded to questions about the rumours by saying: "Nothing official to announce. Will update you if that changes." Neither AC/DC or GNR's management have moved to confirm or deny the rumours.

Now TMZ have published an image showing Rose leaving an Atlanta studio, as well as an image showing Angus Young and other members of AC/DC leaving the same venue. TMZ report that both images were taken on Good Friday. Read more here.

Cheap Trick To Reunite With Bun E. Carlos At Rock Hall Induction(hennemusic)

Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen confirms the band will reunite with estranged drummer Bun E. Carlos to perform at their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in New York next month.
Carlos left the touring lineup in 2010, was replaced by Nielsen's son Daxx, and then found himself suing his own group for monies owed before reaching a settlement last year.

The Rockford, IL band will enter the Hall during an April 8 ceremony at New York's Barclays Center alongside Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

"He's going to play the inductions because they're inducting the people who made the records way back when, and that's good,'' Nielsen tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He deserves it.''

At the same time, the guitarist notes that Carlos "has been gone almost six years, and Daxx has been playing the whole time. He revitalized the band totally.'' Read more here.

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Calls Out Ignorant Critics(TeamRock Radio)

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has called out the meanest critics saying they lack understanding of music and branding them "bitter". He and bassist David Ellefson, guitarist Kiko Loureiro, along with Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler, released the group's 15th studio album, Dystopia, in January.
And when asked if he thinks the music industry is now too tame, Mustaine tells Fox News Magazine: "Probably yes and no. I think that there's a lot of people out there that are probably overtly harsh in their criticism and it's because they don't want people to know that they don't really know what they're talking about.

"It's like the old saying - dogs with no teeth bark the loudest. You find that the meanest critics are people with no real musical education and they're just bitter." Watch the full interview segment here.

Anthrax Star Believes Texting Is A 'Humanity Problem'(Classic Rock)

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian says the world's obsession with texting is a problem for all humanity and not just the music business. Currently on the road with Iron Maiden in South America in support of the recently released 11th album For All Kings, the guitarist discussed his issues with technology in an interview with Argentina radio station Vorterix.
Ian says: "If you go to any public place anywhere on the planet now, all you do is see hundreds of people staring at their phones. So it's not a music-business problem; this is a humanity problem. I think the internet and technology is just turning us into a very antisocial species where human connection is being lost.

"People don't talk to each other any more - they f***ing text. That's what our world has become. And what's next? What comes next after texting? Because I'm sure technology will advance in the next hundred years and there'll be even less interaction between human beings."

He adds: "I just find it to be a very scary thing. As a reader of a lot of science-fiction, the planet is a much different place than it was before the internet. And it's just the way I choose to live my life. I know other people have the way they choose to live their lives, and I'm not gonna tell anybody else how to live their lives." Read more here.

Riverside Thank Fans For Support Following Piotr's Death(Prog)

Riverside have praised their fans for supporting them following the death of guitarist Piotr Grudzinski last month. He passed away after suffering a heart attack in February aged 40.

They say in a statement: "Our biography has been in the making for over two years and it will be published towards the end of this year - we just didn't expect that it would contain an additional chapter and that its character would change.

"We've always been like a family, we have stuck together and always taken care of that bond both on and off the stage. We have also said many times that we have the best fans in the whole world.

"Our band wouldn't exist without you, without your commitment and all the emotional links that have been created between us over the years. Your reactions and support we have received from you have surpassed our most daring expectations. We'd like to thank you for that from the bottom of our hearts." Read more here.

The Arcs Release Live 'Chains Of Love' Video(Classic Rock)

Auerbach said of the record: "I just wanted to do my thing and get extra weird. I wanted everything to flow and be cohesive. A lot of the songs bleed one into the other, a lot like the Grateful Dead - my favorite records that they did.

"So I've got a lot of connected songs. It's basically everything I love about music all wrapped up into one record - that's all. It was cut really quick in a week and a half, two weeks of recording with a whole bunch of different people - my favorites." Watch the video here.

Singled Out: Libel's Hats Off

Gavin Dunaway from Brooklyn 'protoglam' rockers Libel tells us the story behind the song "Hats Off" which comes from their forthcoming album 'Comfort in the Noise'. Here is the story:
One of my favorite scenes in the movie "Fight Club" is when narrator Jack "meets" Tyler Durden on an airplane. Jack explains his concept of the single-serving friend - that anonymous person you chat with while traveling that you know you'll never see ever person again - and Tyler responds, "That's clever. How's that working out for you?"

Jack is puzzled. "What?"

"Being clever."

"Hats Off" is an empty salute to all those dedicated to perpetually showing off how clever they are - including myself. And how easy the Internet has made this! The social mediascape has awakened our inner self-righteous trolls, and they have run rampant to little effect other than making us all look like a bunch of a**holes. The acrimony festering on the Internet is seeping into all parts of life, to all of our chagrin.
But rather than lecturing on the death of discourse, the chorus uses the most pithy of snark - "Hats off to you, mighty dragon slayer" - to admit that I'm part of the problem. This song is akin to me asking myself (pseudo-spoiler?), "How is being so clever working out for you?" Just like Jack, not so great.

As for the music, I have a tendency to dive into the deep end of prog, employing crazy complex riffs, weird time signatures, unsettling key changes, you name it. But occasionally I ask myself, "Can I actually write a straightforward song? You know, one that's interesting, one that's catchy? And most important - something that doesn't sound condescending, as if I'm slumming or trying to reach a broader audience?"

I heard in my head a simple bass line, something like a 50s pop song, but with a more propulsive beat. I shared it with bass player Julie, who Julie-fied the line (brilliantly, if I may say so) by making it more complicated rhythmically yet also groovier. Drummer Nick immediately laid into driving beat that's deceptively intricate. So I let the chorus chords flow right out of me, not giving much thought to whether they resembled some other song (I'm sure they do). "Hats off to you," came naturally to my lips.

Of course, we had to have a little bit of weirdness - it just wouldn't be us otherwise! We needed a transition from the second chorus to the guitar solo and nothing was landing. So randomly we thought, "What if we just do some noise over crazy drums?" Sigh, Justin and I are always up for making noise - it's a shared passion. And speaking of Justin, I quite enjoy trading guitar solos with him in the second half of the song, as self-indulgent as it may be. There's a lot of fun dueling guitars all over "Comfort in the Noise."

"Everybody in China plays it," explains Roth, "and, if they can afford it, they get tutors to come in and teach their kids every day of the week. You play chess? It's a little like chess but it's about four times as big the board and about four billion times the opportunities."

Disturbed's David Draiman Rants Against Rude Fan(Classic Rock)

Disturbed frontman David Draiman verbally attacked a "rude" fan for texting throughout one of the band's shows last week. During their gig in Dallas, Texas, on March 23, Draiman turned his attention to a woman on the balcony of the House Of Blues venue. His rant was captured on video.
Draiman says: "What is so important going on in the world that you need to be texting the entire f***ing show? The whole show. You're right up front, I can see you clear as day. You've had your face in your f***ing phone the whole goddamn show. Are we that boring?

"Don't tell me to go f*** myself. You already did by looking in your phone instead of paying attention. It's f***ing rude. If you don't want to watch, don't watch. But don't stand there in front of the f***ing stage in the front row of the balcony where everybody can see you texting the whole f***ing time on your phone."

Draiman then asks the woman if he can have her "attention for the rest of whatever's left of the set?" He adds: "Now she's all pissed off. She thinks that I did something wrong to her. I love it. Welcome to the age of the internet, ladies and f***ing gentlemen." Watch it here.

Eddie Vedder Joins Bruce Springsteen For 'Bobby Jean'(Radio.com)

Last week in Seattle, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band onstage during the encore for a performance of the Born in the U.S.A. classic, "Bobby Jean."
Of course, the saxophone solo on the song is now handled by Jake Clemons, the nephew of the late E Street sax legend Clarence Clemons. Jake recently told Radio.com that Vedder and singer/songwriter Glen Hansard were instrumental in getting him back on stage after his uncle's passing.

"I had a hard time coming out of my bedroom after Clarence passed away, it was a really difficult time, and I certainly wasn't looking at playing my saxophone," he said. 'Through the kindness of their hearts and their care for me, Glen Hansard and Eddie Vedder [who toured together in 2011] gave me a call and asked me to come out of my room and bring my sax. There was a moment on stage when I played with them in Philadelphia where' I always understood the saxophone as an extension of myself and a communication device, but that night it became something enormously bigger than that. I was able to have this euphoric sense of being with my uncle again [they all covered Springsteen's 'Drive All Night" together that night], and that sense of healing was something I was desperate for."

Watch Springsteen and Vedder, with Clemons on sax, perform "Bobby Jean," here.

Sammy Hagar Won't Follow-Up Eddie Van Halen Tweet(Classic Rock)

Sammy Hagar says he has no plans to follow-up a recent birthday tweet to Eddie Van Halen because he senses it would be misinterpreted as more than a gesture of simply trying to re-establish a friendship.
Prior to the January exchange as Eddie turned 61, the pair had not been in touch in a dozen years following a 2004 reunion tour. Hagar tells Rolling Stone: "It would be misinterpreted.

"I know the way those guys think. 'Oh, he wants something! He wants back in the band. He must be broke.' I'm sorry, but unless they've changed drastically, which when I've talked to people that do know them it sounds like they haven't changed at all, it would be misinterpreted. I also don't want to provoke that. That's not what I'm looking for in my life now." Read more here.

Five Finger Death Punch Sad Over The End Of Black Sabbath(New Rock Times)

Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer says he is 'bummed' over Black Sabbath's impending retirement but he understands why the veterans are bringing the black curtain down on a legendary career.
The metallers are Down Under as support for the Sabbath's 'The End' tour. An invitation Spencer and the band were thrilled to accept. "We're huge Ozzy fans and Sabbath fans, we've been listening to them forever," continues Spencer.

"Part of the reason we do what we do, I mean we're big fans and to be able to finish our show playing for a huge audience and then get to watch them do their thing every night is going to be a whole lot of fun man, because it's their last tour so it's a really special thing because we'll never get to see them again."

On the forthcoming end of Black Sabbath he says: "Well there's always a time, they've been doing it so long, I can see why they're ready to not keep doing the grind of the road. But it's a bummer, it's part of my whole upbringing of music.

"They were some of the first heavy music I ever got into as a kid so it's kind of weird to see that chapter in my life, but they are a phenomenal band and their history speaks for itself and they are certainly legends and we can't wait to share a stage with them, it's going to be great." The Word Alive Release 'Trapped' Video(TeamRock Radio)

The Word Alive have released a video for their track Trapped. It features on the US outfit's fourth album Dark Matter, which they delivered earlier this month via Fearless Records.
Vocalist Telle Smith tells Billboard: "Trapped is about the inescapability of our overthinking and progress-restricting behaviour. We all have something we struggle with internally, and sometimes we have to realise our mind can be a strange dark place, and our own worst enemy."

The band shot the video the day before filming last single Sellout - but Smith insists this promo is the best they've ever done. He adds: "While filming the music video for Trapped with director Marcus Eden, we knew instantly that it would be our favorite video to date.

"It's able to capture a depth to our band and the meaning behind the song in a way we've never accomplished before." Watch the new video here.

"Lyrically, you'll hear the proverbial trains, mountains, valleys and other blues references about heartbreak and loneliness. But there are also some poignant moments about getting away from the stressful, crazy demands of life and losing yourself with your special someone." Watch the video here.

Halestorm's Hale Says Metal And Rock Can No Longer Be Pigeonholed(New Rock Times)

Halestorm's Lzzy Hale says metal and rock bands can't be pigeonholed anymore as the lines between genres and sub genres have become blurred. Hale, and guitarist Joe Hottinger, also discussed the Grammy Awards - an honour Halestorm have on their rock mantelpiece following a 2013 win for 'Best Hard Rock/Metal performance.
In an interview with Russia's Classic Rock, Hale says: "I think it's getting harder and harder to categorize anything anymore, just 'cause everything is… there's so much out there, and it's so broad. If you say 'rock music,' it's so all over the place. And same thing with metal - same thing. Depending on your spectrum of heaviness and your opinion of it, it's getting harder and harder to categorize."

She continues: "We know a lot of the people at The [Recording] Academy [which oversees the Grammy Awards] now, and it must be such a hard job to try to narrow all of that down and choose the best one. So, yeah, there's always things that, like, you personally are, like, 'Ah, I would have voted for that. I would have done that.' But, you know, at the end of the day, it is what it is."

Continuing on the theme of the Grammy Awards, Hottinger reveals: "It was interesting to see who won. I'm glad everyone who wins wins. You never know how it's gonna go. It was neat that Sevendust got their nomination, and we were pulling for them." Read more here.

Asking Alexandria As Excited As Their New Singer(New Rock Times)

Danny Worsnop 'didn't give a sh*t anymore' says his former Asking Alexandria bandmate Ben Bruce as he reflected on the vocalists exit from the British metallers.
It is over a year now since Worsnop announced his departure on his Twitter page after eight years fronting the band. Now Asking Alexandria guitarist Bruce has opened up on the final months with Worsnop admitting they were 'difficult' as he praised new singer Denis Stoff.

In an interview with Australia's The Rock Pit, Bruce recalls: "We hadn't really rehearsed or hung out that much before we even hit the stage together but I think the first show we did together, we headlined a festival in Austria I believe and there was 30 thousand people there," says Bruce.

"Before we went on stage it was like, 'F***, what's going to happen? Are they going to bottle us off the stage because they miss our old vocalist? Is he going to be booed off stage? What the hell is going to happen?' But everyone was just excited, everyone welcomed him with open arms.

"It was good for us as we spent the last few years touring with a vocalist that didn't give a sh*t anymore so we lost all drive and all passion for touring because it was a nightmare being up on stage with someone like that who didn't give a sh*t and when Denis came along, here's this young kid who is stoked to be up there and he's smiling." Singled Out: Lee Aaron's Tom Boy

Multi-platinum Canadian rocker Lee Aaron just released her brand new album "Fire and Gasoline" and to celebrate we asked to tell us the story behind the song "Tom Boy". Here is the story:
"Tom Boy" was inspired by my ten year old daughter, Angella, who'd asked if I would write a song for her whilst working on material for Fire and Gasoline. In a distracted moment I said yes, I would, and immediately regretted making this promise, because I realized I'd trapped myself. What on earth would I possibly write that wouldn't be sappy as heck?

I've always felt that the best songs write themselves. There is something inherently magical when a song idea arrives in your psyche almost fully formed and gets stuck there. When this happens, I almost feel like I should give writing credit to someone else, some spiritual force, some Bob Dylan in the cosmos. Well, "Tom Boy" was one of those experiences for me.
A few nights later, while getting ready for bed, the chorus and first verse literally landed in my head like a lightning bolt (thank you Lord!). I ran for my phone (I must say that iPhone memo feature has become my best friend) to record the melody and words. Over the next week, while vacationing, I fine tuned the lyrics and wrote the bridge section on my acoustic guitar by the lake. By the end of the week everyone was singing it, ha, ha... so I knew I was on to something.

"Tom Boy" was initially inspired by the free-spirited energy and spitfire attitude that young girls have before they hit their teen years and start becoming self conscious. There's purity there, idealism about the world and a real love and acceptance of themselves that I adore. They're in touch with their truest selves and aren't yet weighed down with the trappings of a photo shopped 'beauty culture' that our media foists upon young women. My daughter, of course, is a tom boy and completely comfortable in her own skin. I was a tom boy growing up too (still am actually) so there were a lot of connections for me too. I asked Angella to contribute her own ideas to the song, hence the lines: "don't girlie, girl me," "I'd rather shoot and arrow than have a tea party," and "I'm not into fuchsia..."

The rhythm and changes in the song lent itself really well to fun, precocious word play, so I had a blast writing the lyrics. The geek in me had always wanted to fit 'quantum physics' into a song somewhere and finally I had a chance to do it.

The video features Angella on guitar and her school friends as the backing band. I loved the idea of doing a modern emulation of Elvis' Jailhouse Rock video with school girls. The girls totally rose to the challenge and gave amazing performances brimming with pre-teen, sassy attitude.

Songs often evolve, and it became apparent after a while that "Tom Boy" had taken on a life of its own. The song had a much more universal theme - one of individual empowerment for anyone feeling pressured to conform to a persona that wasn't authentic for whatever reason: societal, religious or parental pressure. "Tom Boy" is meant to be a positive message to young girls but even more so, it's a shout out to all of us who want to be loved and accepted for who we really are. I hope that's the message that really resonates.

Report: AC/DC Recruiting Axl Rose To Replace Brian Johnson(New Rock Times)

For today's wild rumor mill report: The rumor linking Axl Rose with the temporary frontman of AC/DC has been circulating rock n' roll circles now for some weeks. Atlanta Radio 100.5 DJ Jason Bailey let the cat out of the bag on his radio show that he had received intel from an unnamed source that Axl was all but confirmed to front the band for the rest of the tour.
On his radio show Jason Bailey said: "This is what I'm being told, Axl was meeting with the AC/DC group, because it's all but a done deal that Axl will front AC/DC for the 10 remaining shows. All 10, including Atlanta."

"From what I was told, this was all kind of new inside information to me, Angus is a very black and white guy. He's like, Brian, for health reasons, can't continue fronting the band.

He continued: "He was supposed to retire after the last tour, so they wanted to continue going out on the road and continue making music, so if you can't do it, we appreciate your services, but the show must go on.

"They're in town, they were auditioning people for the job, and then they flew Axl in, again, this is from my source." Read more here.

Van Halen's 15 Song Early Demos Owned By Gene Simmons(Classic Rock)

Kiss mainman Gene Simmons has recalled his work with Van Halen in 1976. Simmons saw the fledgling band on the Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, prior to the group signing a record deal in the mid-70s. He went on to produce a demo for Eddie Van Halen and co. And the bassist says while the material features "a lot of cool stuff" Van Halen don't want it to see the light of day.
Simmons tells Rolling Stone: "I discovered the band. I saw them, signed them, flew them to New York and put them in Electric Lady Studios. They were signed to my company, Man Of 1000 Faces. I produced their 24-track demo - 15 songs - which I still own.

"It has everything from the first record and also faster versions of House Of Pain. It's a lot of cool stuff, but the band just doesn't want it to come out. The back and forth with David Lee Roth complicated matters."

Simmons reports he also recruited Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen to record some demos which would eventually end up as Kiss tracks. Read about that here.

Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets' Selected For National Registry(hennemusic)

Metallica's 1986 album classic, "Master Of Puppets", is among 25 sound recordings selected for induction into the US Library Of Congress National Recording Registry.
"The title track starts unsurprisingly enough with a crisp power chord and catchy riff," highlights the National Recording Registry entry, "but halfway through, the tempo slows and a clean arpeggiated progression, accompanied by cello-like tones, introduces Hetfield's mid-tempo lead which eschews tapping, sweep picking and, other metal guitar techniques.

"Black Sabbath bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler has commented that Metallica's 1980s output brought the music 'back to the spirit of [Black] Sabbath' and, he further emphasizes, 'If we started it, then [Metallica] reinvented it.'" Read more here.

Eric Clapton Soundtracks Auschwitz Documentary(The Blues)

A documentary movie about the Auschwitz concentration camp directed by Phillipe Mora's, featuring a soundtrack by his friend Eric Clapton, will be released in May.
Three Days In Auschwitz is Mora's personal exploration of the Nazi death camp and its lasting impact. His mother would have been sent there, almost certainly to die, if she'd been processed by Nazi officials one day earlier, while many of his father's family were murdered during the Holocaust of the Second World War.

Mora has visited the scene three times between 2010 and 2014, in an attempt to understand and commemorate what happened there. He describes the movie as "a unique and trusting collaboration between old friends" and adds: "I was blown away by Eric's score for the film, which combined the tragedy of the events with a celebration of life. He created music with great dignity and emotional power.

"In my opinion, this is one for the ages." Watch the trailer here.

Dave Grohl Comes To The Aid Of Teenage Garage Band(New Rock Times)

The nicest man in rock has done it again after Dave Grohl leapt to the defence of a fledgling metal band from Cornwall. The Foo Fighters mainman has waded into a row between The Black Leaves of Envy and Conrnwall Council who had ordered the band to quit plasticizing following noise complaints from neighbors.
But the teenage metallers have found the most unlikely of allies in Grohl who has penned a letter to the authority after the band got in touch with him. Asking the council to 'reconsider the restrictions,' Grohl recounted his own youth spent developing his musical craft in a garage.

In his open letter, which he shared with his band's more than 12 million followers, he wrote: "Music is not only a healthy pastime, it is a wonderful, creative outlet for kids, and fosters a sense of community necessary to the emotional and social development of any child."

The rock hero who has amassed record sales in excess of 100 million between his bands expressed his belief that it is "crucial that children have a place to explore their creativity and establish a sense of self through song" and that "the preservation of such is paramount to the future of art and music." "In terms of influences I felt I was channelling a combination of James Brown and John Lee Hooker on the funky The Fruits Of Your Desire and album closer Delusion Sweet Delusion. I'm really looking forward to playing those on tour."

He adds: "Opener When Will The Next Blow Fall is a bit of a rocker inspired by the events in Europe and how uncertain people's futures are. "After that I had to think about songs that I could make my own, songs I could bring new dimensions to. These are the artists that made me, so obviously I wanted to do the songs justice." Watch the video here.

Disturbed Regained Original Chemistry With Approach To Immortalized(TeamRock Radio)

Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan says the band will never record again without everyone being in the same room. They released their comeback Immortalized last year and Donegan says the experience of spending time in a studio together helped the band get better results.
He tells 98 KUPD: "Once we got back in the room together and we started tossing around ideas, it was just like riding a bike, back to the same old routine. The chemistry was there.

"The routine changed, because we wanted to go back to how we did in the beginning. Even though we live in different states now, the technology of Pro Tools and sending files is a great tool to have, but it could take away that human element, that chemistry you have being in a room together.

"So we made a conscious effort this time to say, 'You know what? if we live in different states, and that means hopping on a plane and spending more time with each other, then that's what we're gonna do. This is what a band should be.'" Read more here.

Ben Craven Announces New Album, Streams First Song(TeamRock Radio)

Australian singer-songwriter Ben Craven has announced that his third album will be titled Last Chance To Hear. No release date has been set for the follow-up to Great & Terrible Potions, but Craven has issued a stream of the track The Remarkable Man.
Craven says: "Last Chance To Hear is loosely inspired by the end of the music industry as we knew it. There's never been a time when so much new music was being made by so many people and being listened to by so few people.

"The concept of paying for new music is now alien to a lot of the audience. Digital downloads have made physical media virtually obsolete. Streaming services mean that anybody making new music is now competing with the whole history of recorded music - and the album format is in danger of becoming extinct. There's never been a time full of more 'opportunity' than now. So I made an album about it."

The album will feature guest contributions from Billy Sherwood and William Shatner, with Craven saying the new material is a "logical progression" from his previous release and adds: "The arrangements are more confident and more purposeful. But probably the biggest difference is that there are fewer vocals on this new one." Read more and stream the song here.

Knifeworld Announce UK Spring Tour(Prog)

Knifeworld have announced a short UK tour for May. They'll play in Leicester, Leeds, Brighton and London in support of their upcoming third album Bottled Out Of Eden, due for release on April 22 via InsideOut Music.
On the album, frontman Kavus Torabi previously said: "One aspect of Bottled Out Of Eden is the idea of a self-made heaven or a self-imposed hell, that agony or ecstasy are often a choice.

"I look back on the 25 years of making the kind of music I do, particularly the last six with Knifeworld and just feel so fortunate for the friendships, experiences and absolute joy it has brought.

"I wanted the album to be as much about that, a celebration of this all too fleeting life, as it is a reflection on death and its impact on those left behind in its wake." See the dates here.

Diamond Head Named Bloodstock Headliner(Classic Rock)

NWOBHM icons Diamond Head are set to headline Bloodstock's Sophie Lancaster Stage on Friday, August 12. The Stourbridge band, who've influenced the likes of Metallica and Megadeth, will release their self-titled album on April 22 - their first release in over eight years.
Joining Diamond Head in today's announcement are Swedish industrial metallers Misery Loves Co. They'll appear on the Ronnie James Dio stage. Say the band:

"The UK was always special to Misery Loves Co. Our very first show outside of Scandinavia was in London and without the support of the British people we probably would have stayed in Scandinavia forever, listening to ABBA, eating herring and dreaming of the outside world. Doing a summer of festivals without coming to the UK would have been a failure, so we can't wait to come to Bloodstock!" Read more here.

Success Would Have Literally Killed The Wildhearts Says Ginger(New Rock Times)

Ginger Wildheart says one, 'or probably two,' members of the Wildhearts would have died had they made it big in the '90s. The band were kicking on the door of the mainstream in 1995 when their second full length album 'P.H.U.Q' spawned a handful of singles which invaded the UK charts.
Regular appearances on Top of the Pops followed before a well publicized row with their then-label East West saw the band lose their momentum. But perhaps that was for the best reveals Ginger during an exclusive chat with Eric Mackinnon of the New Rock Times. He says: "I kind of know what would have happened if we'd got big as a band, at least one of us would have died. No doubt about it. Probably two of us.

"If we'd had the money that success would have given us we'd have killed ourselves with overuse of drugs and alcohol. I'm not bragging about up being debauched or anything, we were just that way. We'd have kept doing drugs until they killed us. Fortunately we used to run out of money quite regularly."

Ginger is the man of a thousand bands where, in addition to the Wildhearts, the multi-talented musician regular performs with other artists and has roles in other projects.

His current band Hey! Hello! Are currently searching for a new singer after Hollis Mahady moved to Los Angeles. Read more here.

Singled Out: Jason Paulson's Bad Habits

Roots/Americana songwriter Jason Paulson is releasing his new album "Crow River Ramble" tomorrow (March 25th). To celebrate we asked Jason to tell us about the single "Bad Habits". Here is the story:
"Bad Habits" is the first single off our new album and is actually the first song I had written for it. I sat down to write and just started strumming a kind of country shuffle thing. I was singing whatever came to mind and the first time through the words "I wonder what comes next, bad habits or bad checks" came out and I just started building around that.

Being a working musician is not the easiest road! Picking up what odd jobs you can between tours and album releases. I have felt the sting of that tag line more than once, and I imagine there is a good portion of the population that have as well. So I started putting together words that reflected my situation as well as the people around me. I suppose it is a bit of a blue collar tale.

The song starts "her eyes could always see, a better part of me, I wonder just how much I have left." How many people have looked in the eyes of their loved ones and forced a smile, trying to live up to something and falling a little short. "Money can't buy smiles, but it could hide the pain a while, instead of working three jobs to live in debt." I grew up with slightly hippie parents. That was kind of the motto, Love is all you need…….I agree it is, but if you have love already, a little less stress and more time with the people that mean most to you would be nice and sometimes money is the what can make that happen.

The chorus starts getting a little more personal, the tiredness of working so much, the nightlife running into the daytime, Being a dad, chasing a dream, trying to be a good husband, it all comes back to that tag line and wondering how much longer a person can continue to chase a dream before the price you pay is more than the prize at the end.

The rest of the song continues through the woes of a traveling musician or any father really that works hard and long hours to hopefully make a better life for his family. In the bridge I try to touch on the reasons why he continues a bit, or at least my reasons. "All who wander are not lost, and you can't avoid the cost, of the stories you can't throw away." I hope it's a small glimpse as to why to keep going.

The song ends with "So, I wonder what comes next, bad habits or bad checks, cause lately I've been too damn tired to fight." I hope it leaves the story a little unresolved. In a way it allows people to write their own ending. For me the fight keeps going. For the listener, well that is their call. We all go through the hard times, it is what you chose to do with the experience that creates the ending to any story.

Bad Brains Frontman Diagnosed With Rare Disorder(Classic Rock)

Bad Brains frontman HR - aka Paul Hudson - has been diagnosed with a rare headache disorder which leaves him living in "almost constant pain." His wife Lori Hudson, who is also his full-time caregiver, has launched a $50,000 crowdfunding campaign to help pay for medical expenses and care.
She says: "He has a neurobiological disorder and has also had severe headaches for years, but the headaches have gotten progressively worse. In November, he began living with almost constant pain.

"He has been diagnosed with a rare type of headache called SUNCT, a trigeminal neuralgia that is similar to cluster headaches. There is no known cure and no reliable medical treatment. To give you an idea of what he's dealing with, cluster headaches are nicknamed 'Suicide Syndrome.'

"The headaches come randomly, with no warning, at all hours of the day and night; but for him, they are much worse at night. The intensity of the headaches is so great that he yells, cries out, groans, and sobs - repeatedly, every few minutes, for most of the night.

"He can't work. He has no quality of life. If you call him and ask how he is, he will say, 'Everything's okay,' because that's just how he is. But everything is not okay." Read more here.

AC/DC Considering Bon Scott Biopic Star As New Singer

AC/DC singer rumor roulette continues as there appears to be another name in the mix to replace frontman Brian Johnson, who the band says faced complete hearing loss if he had continued with their previously scheduled tour commitments.
Rob Liotti, the former Honeygun singer and the actor who has been selected to portray Bon Scott in a biopic about the late AC/DC frontman, says that he has been in contact with the band about replacing Johnson, according to BraveWords.

They report that Liotti had this to say, "Yes, I will confirm that I have had contact with the band - both directly and through third parties close to the AC/DC camp, but that's really all I can say."

He added, "I received a call from a fan in France today who said he felt I was the guy for the job. He is friends with a Young family member and insisted that he was making a call to recommend me. You have to love people that dedicated."

Liotti also had this to say about Krokus singer Marc Storace, who is also said to be in consideration for the job, "Marc is a good vocalist and I personally like his work. Ironically, I know former Krokus drummer, Steve Pace, and we have jammed together. The night we met, Steve was quick to say that Marc and I reminded him of one another.

"I think I'm a bit grittier than Marc to be honest. I've had a lot more practice with the Bon Scott era stuff, but he can clearly pull that off. It's the music post-Bon that is the issue. I can do both..."

It is unclear what direct contact he has had with the band about the possible gig. He says that he has "not been contacted about an audition. They do have sound files of me singing a few of their songs. They clearly know who I am given the Bon Scott film project.

"At this point, it is up to Angus Young. If he feels like I'm the guy, I'm happy to help complete their tour dates. Hopefully they can get over the fact I'm 6'2 and American."

Keith Emerson's Death Officially Ruled A Suicide(Classic Rock)

Keith Emerson's death has been ruled a suicide by investigating authorities. The Emerson, Lake and Palmer keyboard icon was found dead at his home last week, aged 71, after what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The County Of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner's coroner report lists other significant causes of death as heart disease and depression cause by chronic use of alcohol. The case has been closed.

Emerson's girlfriend said at the weekend that he'd become "tormented with worry" about upcoming show in Japan, after suffering a nervous problem that made it difficult for him to play.

Mari Kawaguchi told the Daily Mail: "His right hand and arm had given him problems for years. He had an operation a few years ago but the pain and nerve issues were getting worse.

"Keith was worried - he read all the criticism online and was a sensitive soul. Last year he played concerts and people posted mean comments such as, 'I wish he would stop playing.'" Read more here.

It is directed by BJ McDonnell, who was also the man behind the Repentless clip. Guitarist Kerry King tells Rolling Stone: "It's really cool being part of a video that's not just some crappy music video from the 80s or 90s.

"It's from a real Hollywood director who has a lot of friends in the biz who stepped up and wanted to be in a Slayer video. That's what makes it cool to me." Watch the new video here.

They are working with producer Mike Sapone and engineer Mike Pepe in Charlotte, North Carolina. Taking Back Sunday say: "During this process we've been discovering and surprising ourselves in realising how good of a band we've become. Not to go full Kanye but none of us can believe, when we're listening back during tracking, that this is our band.

"It's incredible. The timing also worked perfectly, we'll basically be going straight from the studio to Taste Of Chaos where we'll have the opportunity to let these new songs out of their cages." See their upcoming dates here.

Dream Theater Release Official Trailer For The Astonishing Album(Prog)

Dream Theater have released a further trailer for their latest album The Astonishing. The video features a narration explaining the album's concept. The Astonishing was released in January with an earlier trailer issued that same month.
In the video, the narrator says: "For generations, the Great Northern Empire of The Americas remained unchallenged. The mock elegance of an elite aristocracy in the illusion of comfort, they provided conjured a medieval-like feudalism from within the ruins of societal collapse.

"But now, from the distant village of Ravenskill, a magnificent power threatens the false tranquility enforced by the ever-watchful Nomacs. A literal force stirs the people and the heavens, threatening the very deepest of slumbers with the awakening power of artistic expression." Watch the trailer here.

Mastodon Working On New Album(Prog)

Mastodon have revealed that they're about to start writing their seventh album and discussed the 'healing power' of music. In an interview with LiveNation, drummer Brann Dailor reveals that writing sessions for the follow-up to 2014's Once More 'Round The Sun are due to begin shortly.
He says: "We're about to go into writing. With a new record looming, I just want to be able to do something different and not be stagnant with my playing. Every new album is another opportunity to do more better. Because we should do more better, shouldn't we?"

Guitarist Bill Kelliher adds that one of the most satisfying things about being a musician is learning that their work can sometimes help people who are in distress. And he says music has also helped him to deal with issues, including his mother's recent cancer diagnosis.

Kelliher says: "I've got so many emails from people, and it seems like we've done a lot more healing with a lot of our records. How much better a compliment can it be that you are actually helping someone who's hurting.

"My mom has terminal cancer and I just found out. When I'm on stage every night her image goes through my head and I play and say,' I'm doing this for her. I'm gonna make her proud.'

"Music is healing. It's healed me. I've been in dark, deep places and I've put a record on and, I might no know what they're saying, but they're talking to me. It's like 100 Band Aids all over your body." Watch the full interview here.

Helder says: "This is a live recording, but it sounds so warm, intimate and full of atmosphere - despite the fact I was playing in a massive hall, to a fun house of 2500 people.

"This recording feels like a little 'lost diamond' that has been found in a cave, but we've polished it and rediscovered its original beauty. It's a lovely piece of history." Check out the album stream here.

"There are no guitar solos on the record. There's a lot of drumming styles - there's some weird sleigh bells." See the tracklisting and his upcoming tour dates here.

In This Moment Part Ways With Tom Hane(TeamRock Radio)

Hane confirmed the move after having kept quiet at the request of Maria Brink and co - now he says: "Seeing how it's out in the open now, I'll explain. I have had an amazing four years with some amazing people, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

"However, I have struggled to be truly happy creatively. The reason I started music was because it made me happy. I didn't want to stay for the wrong reasons."

He adds: "This will not be a departure from music for me. I have some great things on the horizon and I hope you will join me in my new journey. I'd like to thank every single person, fan and colleague that made the years so special. You all mean the world to me." Read more here.

KISS Look Back At Destroyer 40 Years Later

KISS cofounders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and producer Bob Ezrin have taken a look back at their landmark album "Destroyer", which celebrated its 40th anniversary this week.
Simmons had the following reflection (via BraveWords): "Destroyer was ultimately a major leap forward for us because of Bob Ezrin. We were basically a garage band. We were just knuckleheads, guys who turn it up to 11 just because we can. We didn't know anything. We could barely tune our guitars. Before Destroyer, we just did what we did: We played, we wrote songs up to the level of our musicianship, and that was about it."

Paul Stanley said, "Preproduction consisted of us sitting in a circle, and Bob would say, 'Who's got an interesting piece of music?' And someone would play something, and he'd say, 'No,' and someone else would play something. Ultimately, he would say, 'I like that, who's got a piece to go with that?' Some of the songs were pieced together like that. Other times, someone might come in with a song, and Bob would fine-tune it.

Legendary producer Bob Ezrin added, "Many people have asked me who the studio guys were that I used on Destroyer, and I have to say to them, they were Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. They played that well on that record. The key to this record was we really rehearsed a lot, and we really knew the material. So by the time they got to the studio, it was just about getting a great performance."

Brian 'Head' Welch's Love And Death Stream New Song(TeamRock Radio)

Brian 'Head' Welch's band Love And Death have released a stream of their song Lo Lamento. The Korn guitarist and Love And Death vocalist also announced that the track will be available as a free download for everyone who pre-orders his book, With My Eyes Wide Open: Miracles And Mistakes On My Way Back To Korn, via his official webstore. It's due out on May 17.
He tells Loudwire: "Lo Lamento is a song that came from an idea producer Jasen Rauch and writer Mark Holeman had on our last album, Between Here And Lost. It was actually the original chorus for our song I W8 4 U, but it sounded way too melodic for that crushing song, as you can imagine.

"To me, Lo Lamento paints a picture lyrically about infidelity and a once picture perfect relationship left in ruins." Check out the stream of the new song here.

David Lee Roth Releases Tattoo Themed Roth Show Episode(hennemusic)

In additon to some background music, Roth also delivered a version of John Brim's "ice Cream Man" with some new lyrics for the occasion.
Roth became a resident of Tokyo in 2012, while maintaining homes in New York City and Pasadena, CA.

Last year, Roth and Van Halen released their first live album together, "Tokyo Dome Live In Concert," and supported the project with a 3-month summer tour of North America.

The Cadillac Three Go Behind The Scenes Of Graffiti Video(Classic Rock)

The Cadillac Three have released a behind-the-scenes look at the shooting of their video for Graffiti with TeamRock. The band filmed the Graffiti promo in London earlier this year. The track is a taster of what's to come from their upcoming second album.
In the behind-the-scenes video, the band joke: "I think our director might be a gangster. I'm gonna do whatever he says. I was about to start bitchin' but I've turned it off.

"East London is a lot like East Nashville. I think you guys say dodgy. Up-and-coming, perhaps. This town is so old, the buildings are older than our country."

The Cadillac Three have a string of dates in North America starting this month, with an appearance at Ramblin' Man Fair in the UK also on the cards. Watch the video here.

Nirvana Nevermind Producer Reflects On Kurt Cobain's Mood Swings(Classic Rock)

Nevermind producer Butch Vig has told of Kurt Cobain's mood swings in a discussion about upcoming documentary about Smart Studios. The Smart Studios Story is set to be screened at a string of film festivals in the coming months and premieres this week at South By Southwest.
A new trailer features members of Nirvana and L7 talking about the studio's impact on the music scene in the 90s. And in an interview with Billboard, Vig recalls the sometimes tense moments in the studio as Nirvana recorded the 1991 smash hit record.

He says: "There were moments that were hard. Kurt would have intense mood swings and just shut down. He would just go sit in a corner and disappear into his own space.

"Krist Novoselic would say, 'He just goes into these moods and he'll come out in a while.' So we'd find something to do for a couple hours, tweak the drums or work on bass sounds, and all of a sudden Kurt would pick up his guitar, 'Let's go.' He'd be back, fully engaged. I just had to gauge when the timing was right to go for takes."
