Today's Day In Rock News!

Stone Temple Pilots Confirm Split With Chester Bennington

After word spread that Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington had left Stone Temple Pilots, the band confirmed that amicable parting of ways in a statement on Sunday night.
The news of the departure first came to light from the band's original singer Scott Weiland who told Alternative Nation, "He's not in the band anymore" and soon after Highly Suspect singer Johnny Stevens tweeted that he was approached by Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo to join the group.

Bennington released the following statement about his departure, "The last few years have been an amazing experience. I got to create and perform with one of the greatest rock bands of our generation, that had so much influence on me growing up.

"With the amount of time STP deserves, in addition to being in Linkin Park, and with the needs of my family, one of them always seems to fall short. Going in to this, the four of us... Robert, Eric, Dean and myself knew what we were up against.

"We decided in due fairness to friends, fans and the legacy of STP that it needs more than time was allowing me. And in all fairness to my bandmates in Linkin Park, as well as to myself and to my family, I'm going to focus solely on Linkin Park so I can contribute 100%. It's been an amazing experience and a dream come true, and I look forward to the future of both STP and Linkin Park."

The band had the following to say, "What an amazing and beautiful few years we've all had together. It was our honor to play and see all of you recently on tour. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time together with Chester not only professionally, but even more so on a personal level.

"Sadly, it was evident that scheduling and time was working against us. Within this, there is a new beginning. There is an abundance of new music written, some of which is already recorded. We have had the fortune of playing with some very talented singers over the last few months and will continue to do so until each of us feels and knows when the right person arrives."

Stone Temple Pilots will have a new singer tonight (November 9th) when they perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live with soul singer Joss Stone as Joss Stone Temple Pilots for the late night show's Mashup Mondays.

Scott Weiland Has 'Heard' Guns N' Roses Are Reuniting

Former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland says that he heard that his former bandmates will be reuniting with Axl Rose in Guns N' Roses and also says that he believes Slash's former wife "kind of put the kibosh" on a Velvet Revolver reunion.
Rumors of a reunion of the original lineup, or the Use Your Illusions era, of Guns N' Roses have surfaced after Slash revealed that he and Axl Rose had settled their longtime feud.

Weiland was interviewed by Alternative Nation and was asked about his own feud with Rose and he responded, "There was a little going back and forth between the two of us at the time, but I think that Guns N' Roses are getting back together."

The site says they then pressed him on that response and he said, "I just heard that." Tommy Black, the bass player for Weiland's band The Wildabouts, added "we've heard rumors."

One reunion involved those same Guns N' Roses members that didn't come to fruition was with Weiland and Velvet Revolver. They did perform together again at a charity event in 2012 and discussed regrouping but it didn't happen.

Weiland shared his view of what prevented the reunion, "We did a show together, and there was talk about us getting back together, but Perla, Slash's ex-wife, kind of put the kibosh on everything … As far as getting back together, I thought at the time we would get back together and do a tour."

Alternative Nation will be publishing the full interview with Wieland later today (Nov. 9), in the meantime read the report featuring the GNR and Velvet Revolver reunions here.

Paul Stanley Of KISS Addresses Gay Rumors(Classic Rock)

KISS frontman Paul Stanley has described long-standing rumours that he's gay as the "oddest" thing that's ever said about him. And he asserts that, if he was, he'd be proud of the fact.
Whispers have circulated for years that the iconic musician and father of four has kept his true sexuality a secret. But Stanley tells The Breeze: "As long as you're a good person, sexual orientation and stuff like that is totally irrelevant. That being said, I never saw a guy where I said, 'Gee, that's a close second to a woman.'

"I never looked and said, 'If I can't have that girl over there, I'm taking the bloke.' It's always persisted over time that I'm gay. If I were, I'd be proud to be whatever I am."

He adds: "That's always been really interesting, that some people can't take my comfort with sexuality, misreading it as something it's not. I scratch my head at that." Read more here.

Metallica's New Album Will 'Most Likely' Come In 2016

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says in a new radio interview that the band's new studio album, the follow up to 2008's "Death Magnetic," will "most likely" be released next year.
Hammett told Buffalo, NY radio station 103.3 The Edge WEDG-FM, "Well, you know, we're moving forward. We're hoping that the album will be released next year. It's pretty much more along the same lines as 'Death Magnetic' - kind of like that direction. And, you know, we'll see.

"We're into it. I don't wanna say that we're a third into it, or two-thirds into it, or an eighth into it, 'cause anything could happen that'll just change that number.

"But, eventually, you will see a new Metallica album, and it will most likely be in 2016, and at the very worst, at the beginning of 2017." Listen to the full interview here.

Teenage Bottlerocket's Brandon Carlisle Being Taken Off Life Support(TeamRock Radio)

Teenage Bottlerocket drummer Brandon Carlisle is to have his life support removed, his band have confirmed. His bandmate and brother Ray Carlisle reported last week that the sticksman had been found unresponsive at home and was subsequently rushed to hospital.
He'd been in a coma for several days but the decision has been made to switch off his life support after scans showed no vital signs. The band say in a statement: "It is with the heaviest hearts that we have to report our beloved drummer Brandon didn't make it.

"Doctors did everything they could to save him, but the MRI showed he is no longer with us. His family and loved ones are with him as they prepare to take him off life support and let him gently move on."

"Brandon lived his life with his whole heart. He loved music, and he loved people. He always made it a point to let everyone know how much they meant to him, and to take time to make new friends. Anyone who was lucky enough to spend even a minute with the guy knows what a blessing he was to this Earth." Read more here.

Phil Collins Would Love To Stage Genesis Reunion(Classic Rock)

Phil Collins says that he would love to stage a reunion with Genesis - but thinks it would have to be with the lineup he fronted, rather than bringing back Peter Gabriel.
The singer and drummer last month confirmed he'd come out of retirement after rethinking his life and receiving treatment for the physical issues that had hounded him.

He reported that he only needed to practice if he wanted to play drums again - but his latest comments suggest it might not be so straightfoward. Collins tells the Telegraph: "I'd love to do it, but it puts a bit of a kibosh on it if I can't play the drums. There's no reason why the three of us can't get back together, though. We still get along - always have done.

"The voice is alright, that's the main thing. Considering a lot of people don't even know I play drums, I could get away with it. It would piss me off, because it's the reason I started doing this in the in the first place - but I'm not sure anyone else would care." Read more here.

Last year, the Madden brothers released Greetings From California. "Golgotha is Hebrew for place of the skull," says frontman Blackie Lawless, "and it's the hill where Christ was crucified. And it's interesting, when you see a lot of bands going around using Satanic images or images of death and things like that, and I'm thinking, all they need to do is look at the source, 'cause it's right there.

"I mean, if you want death, there's enough to go around there." W.A.S.P. released a lyric video for Scream in September to coincide with their UK tour dates. Check out the new song here.

Metal Allegiance Stream New Song Featuring Cristina Scabbia (Classic Rock)

Metal Allegiance have released a lyric video for their track, Scars. It features Lacuna Coil frontwoman Cristina Scabbia and Death Angel singer Mark Osegueda.
It's the latest track lifted from the metal collective's debut album, which was released in September featuring core members David Ellefson, Alex Skolnick and Mike Portnoy.

Skolnick tells Billboard: "The lyrics are a lament on modern times, with the male voice representing an honest person at their wit's end, scarred by all the falseness and deception he's encountered in life, and dismayed at the negative impact of human behaviour on a global scale. He's balanced by the female voice. She appears as a soothing angelic presence, offering hope and a reminder to stay strong."

Scabbia adds: "The love we all have for music and what we do for a living, added to the fact that we cherish our friendship, created an even bigger explosive factor that will blow your minds." Check out the song here.

Vinnie Moore Reveals Unusual Approach To Recording With UFO(Classic Rock)

UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore says recording away from the band helps control his "schizophrenic personality." He released his eighth solo album entitled Aerial Visions in October via Mind's Eye Music.
And he reports he finds it easier writing and recording his own material as he finds the process "therapeutic." Moore tells The Rocktologist: "UFO is a rock band so when I write songs for that, it stylistically falls within a more defined range. Because my solo stuff is instrumental, things are more open and there are less rules so I can just explore and follow the inspiration wherever it leads."

He continues: "I am all over the place so this format is perfect for me. It's therapeutic for my schizophrenic personality, frequent mood changes, and problems staying focused with one task. I enjoy both musical realms, though." Read more here.

Travis Barker Offered Friends A Million Dollars To End His Life(Radio.com)

Blink-182's Travis Barker admits in a recent interview that following his 2008 plane crash, where he suffered second and third degree burns, he was in so much agony that he offered friends a million dollars to end his life.
The crash happened on a flight from South Carolina to California. Although the 39-year-old was in the hospital for four months and had to endure 27 surgeries, he was one of the lucky ones.

The crash claimed the lives of four passengers, including Barker's assistant Chris Barker, two members of his crew, and a security team member. DJ AM also survived the plane crash, but died in 2010 from an accidental drug overdose.

The Blink-182 drummer tells ABC, "I mean, [medical officials] had to take my phone out of my room because I was making these phone calls. I would call friends of mine and go, 'You know, I'll deposit a million dollars into whoever's bank account. Like, I'm done." Read more here.

Ozzy Was Feared Kidnapped Following Binge With David Lee Roth

Author Greg Renoff reveals in a new interview that police once feared that Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne had been kidnapped after he disappeared following a drug binge with Van Halen's David Lee Roth.
Renoff discussed the story while speaking to the Boston Herald about his new book on the early years of Roth's band, "Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal".

When asked for one of his favorite stories of decadence that he discovered while writing the book, Renoff responded, "I didn't discover the story, but I was able to really flesh out all of the details about the notorious Birmingham, Alabama 'Krell [Cocaine] War' between Ozzy and [Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth].

"In November 1978 in Birmingham hotel room, they both snorted enough coke to kill an elephant. After a bus ride to Nashville, Ozzy passed out for 24 hours in the wrong hotel room and in effect was missing.

"The police thought he'd been kidnapped. Let's face it, any story involving Ozzy, DLR, and drugs is going to be a fun one to tell." Read more of the interview here.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Receives Gibson Les Paul Award(Gibson)

On Monday (Oct. 19), Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi was presented with the prestigious Gibson Les Paul Award at the 2015 Q Awards ceremony in London. The honor, bestowed in recognition of Iommi's outstanding contribution to music and pop culture, coincides with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Les Paul.
"Many thanks to Q Magazine and to Gibson," commented Iommi. "I have a long history with the guitar-maker." To commemorate the event, Gibson compiled some thoughts about why Iommi is so deserving of this special honor.

He invented a new genre of music: Sure, the phrase "heavy metal" had been invoked before (check out the lyrics to "Born to Be Wild"), but it was Iommi's minor pentatonic riffs, combined with "doom-and-gloom" imagery, that truly gave birth to the genre. "Every time I'm questioned about this, it's been confusing for me," Iommi told Gibson.com, in 2008. "It's just something that came out of me that was totally different because it was like doomy and the riffs were a bit frightening. And you know, it was something that I felt. It's really a mystical thing."

He's met-and conquered-adversity: Dating back to when he severed the tips of two fretting fingers, in a pre-Black Sabbath accident, Iommi has always persevered in the face of potential setbacks. Early on, in 1974, he explained how he adapted in the wake of the injury, with the help of thimbles as prosthetics. "I had to start all over again, which was kind of a drag," he said. "It involved a lot of determination and a lot of hard work and practice. I had to adopt a totally different way of playing. I mean, it's much easier when the flesh is there as it should be. Instead of, say, pulling a note, I have to sort of push it up to get a vibrato."

He's a riff maestro: From "Iron Man" to "Paranoid," from "War Pigs" to "Children of the Grave," Black Sabbath's songs have been powered primarily by riffs that, today, are etched into the fabric of classic metal. With characteristic humility, Iommi tends to downplay that singular gift. "[Drummer] Bill Ward may have played something and I just reacted to it," he told Gibson.com, explaining the origins of the riff for "Iron Man." "But I'm not sure, I really don't know. Without Bill and Ozzy that song would have never happened. I think it came at rehearsal. It was one of those occasions where I said, 'I've got a riff, I'll come up with something.' Then I just built it, worked on it from that. A lot of that stuff came fairly quickly; it just sort of happened."

His influence is pervasive: The likes of Judas Priest, Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer-even Nirvana-would be unthinkable were it not for the pioneering impact of Iommi's work. Mastodon's Brent Hinds spoke for many when he wrote these words for Rolling Stone: "I remember the first time I heard Black Sabbath. My older brother got their album, Master of Reality, from a kid who lived next door. The music just struck me like lightning. Tony is a metal pioneer, but there's a real finesse to his playing; it's not all that fast. His phrasing has such a classic vibe, and I draw a lot of inspiration from Tony's trilling. I truly enter the Iommi-sphere every time I put a guitar on."

He's always taken the high road: Rock and rollers tend to be notorious back-biters. But … sift through the voluminous interviews Iommi has done through the years, and you'll be hard-pressed to find unkind words about anyone, including bandmates, former bandmates and peers. In 2008, Guitar World asked Iommi to recall his initial reaction to Ozzy Osbourne's first solo album, Blizzard of Oz. "It was good," he said. "I loved Randy [Rhoad's] playing. I didn't rush out right away to buy Ozzy's album because I was into what we were doing at the time. But I was pleased for Ozzy. It was the spark that got him going, and it was exactly what he needed." Later, in 2013, Iommi was asked about drummer Bill Ward's refusal to rejoin the band, purportedly over money issues. "It would've been nice to have had Bill involved," Iommi told Mercury News. "But we waited long enough for Bill, and what can we do? We can't make him do it. It was his decision. It was sad." Tremonti Leave The Door Open For Van Halen Return(Classic Rock)

Mark Tremonti says the door remains open for bassist Wolfgang Van Halen to hook up with Tremonti now that Van Halen's tour has come to an end. Wolfgang - the son of Eddie - played bass on Tremonti's second album Cauterize, but had to sit out the tour as Van Halen were on the road on a North American jaunt.
Tremonti - the solo project of Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark - hired Tanner Keegan to fill in, but would welcome Wolfgang back with open arms just as soon as he's ready.

Mark Tremonti tells Robb's Metalworks: "It's totally up to him. I think they just finished the Van Halen tour last week, and he's working on an album of his own.

"That will probably take precedence over this while he's doing that, but I'm sure when he's not doing that and whenever he wants to throw with us, he's got that opportunity. He's probably in my same situation. I've got Alter Bridge and Tremonti. Now he's gonna have that band and this band, so whenever the schedules match up, we'll be touring. But Tanner Keegan's out with us, and he's been killing it. The fans love him." Read more here.

Gary Holt Reveals His Most Important Contribution To Slayer(Classic Rock)

Gary Holt believes he's been a unifying force in Slayer - and it's one of the most important things he's brought to the band. The Exodus guitarist has been working with Kerry King and Tom Araya since the late Jeff Hanneman stepped back in 2011, and appears on the thrash icons' latest album Repentless, alongside drummer Paul Bostaph.
The two remaining original members haven't always had the closest of relationships - with frontman Araya admitting earlier this year that he and King often didn't communicate in the past.

Holt tells The Jasta Show: "People have asked me, 'What do you think is the most important thing you brought to Slayer?' It sounds like a really hippie way to say it - I'd say it's unity.

"I'm really close to everybody in the band. I maybe have been a bridge in keeping everybody smiling. I'm always in a good mood. I'm a hard guy to piss off."

He adds: "We have our times when I hang out with Kerry at night. I hang out with Tom and Paul at different times. But everybody's happy - everybody's enjoying it." Read more here.

"We're the most unified as a team I think we've ever been, certainly in my history in the band. I actually wish we hadn't done a self-titled album already because I think this is our most definitive statement yet." Watch the video here.

"The Chamber" follows the preview of his 1993 smash, "Are You Gonna Go My Way", from "Just Let Go", which was filmed over three months in late 2014 during the European leg of the singer's world tour in support of the project.

"The film takes a deeper look into what it's like to be on tour," says Kravitz, "and also gives an intimate perspective into my life with my band, both on and off the stage." Watch the video here.

Butcher Babies Show Their Goofy Side With 'Igniter' Video(TeamRock Radio)

Butcher Babies have released a video for their track Igniter. The song is taken from second album Take It Like A Man which was issued in August via Century Media Records. The promo features footage shot during the band's performances at Download, the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards show and onboard HMS Hammer this year.
Singer Carla Harvey says Igniter is about "the anger and frustration that we can let consume and even destroy us at times." She adds: "When we first started Butcher Babies, I was in a much darker place and often let that rage overtake me, but after six years of having a healthy outlet for those feelings through our music, I'm a completely different person.

"I love that the video for Igniter, shot while we toured the UK this summer, shows a juxtaposition of on stage rage and our off stage fun personalities. It speaks volumes to the release that music provides not only for the listener, but the creators."

Fellow vocalist Heidi Shepherd adds that the clip shows the band's "goofy, off-stage personalities." Watch the video here.

Mythra Reveals Details For Limited-Edition Anthology(Classic Rock)

Mythra have revealed the tracklist and artwork for their upcoming limited-edition anthology. The NWOBHM outfit will launch Warriors Of Time on November 30 via Skol Records. It features the classic tracks they recorded between 1979 and the early 80s, plus five new numbers written after they announced their comeback this year.
Vocalist Vince High previously told TeamRock they wanted to set the record straight with the authorised collection. He said: "This is important for several reasons - not least of which is the fact that the CD release in 1998 was done without any input from the band whatsoever.

"The company concerned even got some of the song titles wrong. We didn't know it had been released until after it came out. It's now long out of print and fans are having to pay silly money on the net." Read more including the tracklisting here.

Singled Out: Doll Skin's Family of Strangers

Doll Skin, the up and coming all-female rock quartet, tell us about "Family of Strangers" from their "In Your Face" EP which was produced by Megadeth's David Ellefson and will be released on October 30th. Here is the story:
Family of Strangers was the very first song Doll Skin ever wrote. It existed before we gave our band the name Doll Skin, actually! We were adamant about adding an original to our set for the battle of the bands we were participating in at drummer Meghan's high school. It would be our first gig ever, and we knew not a lot of bands would have originals, especially for a small high school battle. As soon as Alex perfected the main riff, and Nicole wrote a solid bass part, Meghan knew exactly what lyrics to pull for the song.

A year back, she wrote the lyrics about how connected a room full of fans can feel to each other during a concert. Complete strangers can become instant friends because they already have one thing in common; their love for music. For that one day, these people can all feel like family. Sydney phrased the melody to sound pretty punk heavy. We wanted the song to be huge in sound! We actually sped up the tempo at least 25 bpm's after five months of playing it slower live. It sounds way cooler at a faster tempo. It evolved even more when we recorded it at the Platinum Underground!

Slipknot Member Suffers Injury(TeamRock Radio)

Slipknot's Sid Wilson has sustained another foot injury, he's revealed. In 2008 the disc spinner broke both heels after a stage jump went wrong, although he managed to appear at every show on the band's subsequent tour.
Now Wilson has revealed that he has hurt himself again - and although the damage to his left foot is less severe than last time, it's still causing him difficulties.

Wilson posted a photo of his injury with the caption, "I thought after a day off this would feel better, but it seems I haven't seen the worst of it yet. No high jumping on stage for the time being.

"I should still have some dance moves for ya all - just no flying." See Sid's post here.

Black Sabbath Reunion With Bill Ward Looks Unlikely(Classic Rock)

Tony Iommi has offered the strongest hint yet that Bill Ward won't be part of Black Sabbath's upcoming farewell tour but he also says that a final album from the group "could happen".
The drummer dropped out of the band's 2011 reunion and subsequent album, saying he hadn't been offered a "signable" contract. The disagreement later exploded into a war of words between him and frontman Ozzy Osbourne.

Sabbath recorded 2013 album 13 with Rage Against The Machine sticksman Brad Wilk, then toured with Tommy Clufetos behind the kit. And although Iommi and Ward caught up at a recent awards ceremony, the guitarist says an original lineup reunion is unlikely as they work towards their last-ever tour.

Asked if Ward will play with Sabbath again, Iommi tells Gigwise: "No, to be honest. I don't know if that's going to happen. But who knows? You never know."

Sabbath's plans may or may not include a final album. "We've got some tracks we recorded with Rick Rubin," says the guitarist. "When we did our last album we made 16 tracks, but we only put eight on the album. There are tracks there that could possibly show their face at some point." He also discussed their final tour plans. Read about that here.

Adam Lambert Recreates Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Video(Radio.com)

Current Queen frontman Adam Lambert has recreated the legendary band's iconic video for "Bohemian Rhapsody" with the help of British comedian Alan Carr.
Lambert burst onto America's radar singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" during his audition for American Idol. His soaring vocals caught the attention of the band and they asked him to step in as lead vocalist for multiple tours.

British comedian Alan Carr wanted to keep Lambert's love for Queen alive by recruiting him to recreate the iconic video for "Bohemian Rhapsody." The pair premiered their video on Carr's show Chatty Man.

Both Lambert and Carr play two members of Queen. Neither one miss a beat performing the lyrics in the video. Adam seems like he was having the time of his life. Alan Carr looked crazy in that wig, but it was all for the production of the video. Check the clip here.

Motley Crue Play More Farewell Shows Without Injured Tommy Lee(hennemusic)

Drummer Tommy Lee has missed the past four dates on Motley Crue's farewell tour as he continues to recover from a case of tendonitis. Lee was first diagnosed with the injury to his left wrist last week in Buffalo, NY and was pulled from the show on doctor's orders.
"I'm so sorry to say that i'm unable to play drums tonight guys!!," Lee tweeted on October 14. "I woke up at 3am with tendonitis!! f***!!! Cant even hold a drumstick!"

Tourmate and Alice Cooper drummer Glen Sobel filled in for Lee at the group's final show in the city, and sat in again in Bridgeport, CT on October 16, Manchester, NH on October 17 and Bangor, ME on October 18.

"Rocked w/ Alice & covered for Tommy in Crue one more time tonight in Bangor, Maine," posted Sobel on his social media sites on Sunday. "He so wants to get back behind the kit but needed just a bit more time to make sure his wrist is good to go. He's been amazing through all this and is a class act who cheers me on during these last 4 shows.

"Tomorrow is a day off in Quebec City so that gives more time for healing & rest. Hopefully we'll be seeing T Lee rockin the kit for that show on Tuesday." Read more here.

"We intend on playing both the Orange County and Sacramento shows to finish off the run, if his injury permits. Iron Maiden To Headline Download Festivals(hennemusic)

Iron Maiden will headline a pair of Download festivals in 2016. The group will top the bill at the debut Download event at Longchamps Racecourse in Paris, France on June 10 before returning to their native UK for the annual concert weekend at Donington Park on June 12.
The homecoming will mark the band's only UK appearance of 2016 as they tour the world in support of "The Book Of Souls." Frontman Bruce Dickinson had this to say, "Download is a very special place for us.

"Not just because it's always great to play on home turf but because there's a truly unique vibe there, it's the very heart of England and of metal, so a fitting place for Iron Maiden.

"The crowd is always fiercely passionate and the whole band feeds off that famous Donington energy. We aim to deliver a really memorable show for our fans to close the 2016 Festival. Although this is our sixth time headlining at Castle Donington, it's the first time we've been able to land Ed Force One right on the doorstep of the festival site." Read more here.

Anthrax have announced that they will be releasing an expanded 30th anniversary edition of their iconic 1985 album "Spreading The Disease" on November 20.
Produced by Anthrax with Carl Canedy, the project marked the first Anthrax album to feature singer Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello and included classics like "Madhouse", "Armed & Dangerous" and "The Enemy."

The expanded 2-disc reissue presents previously unreleased bonus material including Belladonna's 1984 demo recording of the song "Medusa", nine "rhythm tracks" from Anthrax recordings also done in 1984 - no vocals, no overdubs or "sweetening," just drums, some guitar, a bit of bass, showing the songs in their naked, most basic form - and eight live songs from the group's 1987, first-ever concert in Japan, held at Tokyo's Sun Plaza.

"We wanted to do something special for our fans to celebrate the anniversary of Spreading The Disease," says drummer Charlie Benante. "We took the idea to Universal a couple of years ago and have been very hands-on with them, creating this special, deluxe edition that we think our fans will really like."

"We didn't know what we were doing, but we totally knew what we were doing," added guitarist and founder Scott Ian. "I know that doesn't make sense, but it's where we were at, a bunch of 21 year-old kids making our major label debut on a shoestring budget with nothing but a dream and a bunch of songs that we thought killed.

"We were right and our dream came true. Thank you to all the fans that put this record and Anthrax on the map way back when and still support us today. Cheers my friends!" Check out the track details and the interview with Ian and Benante here.

The Scorpions eventually changed their minds, returned to the studio to record a new album, "Return To Forever", and hit the road for a 50th anniversary tour.

"Seeing all these old fans, the new fans coming," says guitarist Rudolf Schenker, "everything was sold out, and getting told by the fans what the music means for them, then we more and more", understood that the time wasn't right for the band to retire." Read more here.

Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell Shares Valuable Lesson From Cancer Fight(Classic Rock)

Vivian Campbell's cancer battle has taught him the value of trusting his instincts when it comes to his health. And the Def Leppard guitarist believes it's a lesson others should learn as early as they can.
His treatment for Hogkin's lymphoma continues after he was originally misdiagnosed by medics who thought he was suffering from a persistent bug.

Campbell tells 93.3 WMMR: "I remember getting this head cold and flu-like symptoms, and a doctor gave me some antibiotics. Five or six weeks later I had the same thing come back, and the one thing that was constant was this cough that wouldn't go away.

"My doctor said, 'Sometimes it takes time for these things to heal up.' A respiratory doctor gave me an inhaler and nasal spray. I said, 'This isn't really getting any better,' and he'd just give me a stronger inhaler."

After a year he insisted on an X-ray, which identified there was a more serious problem. "A very brilliant doctor said she was pretty sure I had Hodgkin's lymphoma," Campbell recalls. "We did a biopsy a couple of days later, and there you go - Hodgkin's lymphoma."

He reflects: "One thing it taught me is that you really have to advocate for your own health. If you know something's wrong, even though doctors are very well educated, nobody knows your body like yourself. I knew something was wrong and my doctors just weren't listening." Wilson Release Video For 'Right To Rise' Title Track(Classic Rock)

Wilson have released a video for the title track of the recent long-player Right To Rise. The album is the follow-up to the band's 2013 debut Full Blast F***ery, while the video was shot in the band's hometown of Detroit, and features both the city's ruins and its rejuvenation.
"When we wrote the song we wanted to tell a story about the area of the world we live in. After traveling so much the past few years, we realise the magnifying glass that the media has put on Detroit has damaged not only our city's image, but more importantly our peoples' image. We all struggle with life's weight, no matter where we live in this world... our peoples' story is not unlike the millions of other people out there put against the wall daily, cast aside as underdogs and thought of as 'already dead'. It's through the struggle to survive in those conditions that we create our strengths.

"What we've tried to achieve visually is to tell a story through the point of view of a pack of dogs, moving through the blight of our city; the places most identifiable to the rest of the world. The abandoned house the band performs in starts to crumble as the 'underdogs' move from the rubble of our past into the present parts of Detroit's rebuild, showing our people coming together in strength to unite as one. It's a picture of hope and growth through hard work, resilience and ingenuity, while honouring our past as we rise towards our future." Watch the video here.

Blackberry Smoke jammed the Black Crowes' track "Wiser Time" with Chris Robinson at a recent event and video of the live performance has been posted online.

Starr tells Rolling Stone: "If you're going to play a song by the Black Crowes you need to bring your A game. Those guys were one of the best rock'n'roll bands of the last 20 years. Whenever we do a Crowes song I always think, 'We better play it right.'" Watch video here.

Singled Out: Essence's Untouchable

Lasse Skov from acclaimed Danish thrash metal band Essence tells us about the song "Untouchable" from their brand new album "Prime", which was released earlier this month by Spinefarm. Here is the story:
We were in the studio for three years making a thrashy as hell album - like we've done it for the past 10 years. Everything was on the routine. Like when you're going day-in-day-out in school or at your job. The funny thing is; you never realize you're changing before you stop up and look back.

During the recording sessions I took time off to go traveling. I find inspiration from going on wild adventures and this time the destination was Mount Everest. The trip gave me a needed break where I got the chance to stop up and look back at everything - our recordings, songwriting and the direction we were headed. By then I realized that we had changed a lot as persons, musicians and as a band. So why not embrace this change and write some music that reflect who we really are, instead of doing exactly what we've always done and what people expect us to do?

"Untouchable" is a product of not realizing a natural change and it's what makes it such a great song. There are no magic tricks or a great plan. It's just about letting go and let life take you where you're supposed to go. Following your natural path is what makes happiness and that's what life is all about.

When I was in the helicopter looking back at Mount Everest and seeing the clouds, avalanches and blizzard storms I told myself to be who I am instead of trying to be somebody I'm not. It's funny in a super absurd way that I had to get that far out before realizing that being yourself is the most important thing in the world. I'll never change that. And I'll keep writing songs like "Untouchable" to share them with cool kids who just don't give a fox.

Classic Guns N' Roses Stars To Jam With Billy Idol At Benefit Show

Billy Idol has been added to the lineup of an all-star jam featuring former classic era Guns N' Roses stars Duff McKagan and Gilby Clarke, as well as later GNR member Josh Freese and more for a cancer charity benefit concert.
The event is set to take place on November 3rd at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles and will benefit Rhonda's Kiss, which is a charity that helps cancer patients that can not afford treatment.

The concert will be lead by The Hellcat Saints, a collective formed by Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner. Apart from Idol and the former Guns N' Roses stars, the lineup of the band for this event will also include Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro, Juliette Lewis, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, and pop star Kesha.

Kushner had this to say about the reason for the event, "Many people close to us have been touched personally by cancer, as I know first-hand, as the two most important women in my life have been affected cancer. I believe that, regardless of our backgrounds, access to treatment to beat this disease should be available to everyone."

Actor and comedian Bill Burr (Breaking Bad, Walk of Shame) will be the MC for the special event and will also be performing a 30-minute comedy set. Find more details, including ticket information, here.

The event allows musicians of all levels to learn from and perform alongside bona fide rock stars. The 2016 event marks the 20th anniversary of the camp and takes place from February 11 to 14.

Chrissie Hynde Talks 'Lynch Mob' Reaction To Rape Controversy(Classic Rock)

Chrissie Hynde says the backlash from her sexual assault comments is like being the victim of a lynch mob. The Pretenders frontwoman encountered controversy in August when she discussed her opinions on the subject, after writing about her own experience of being attacked by a biker gang when she was 21.
Referring to the passage in her autobiography Reckless, Hynde said she took responsibility for the incident, adding: "If I'm walking around in my underwear and I'm drunk, who else's fault can it be?"

That led to a flood of negative comments, including rape victim Jackie Fox, formerly of the Runaways, who said: "This is just telling people who've gone through this experience, 'You're right, it is your fault.'"

Now Hynde tells NPR: "I'm not going to describe it because I've written about it in the book. But what I can say is, I never said I was raped. I've never used the word and it's not in the book."

She adds: "I'm just telling my story. You know, it's almost like a lynch mob. I'd rather say, 'Just don't buy the f***ing book, if I've offended someone. Don't listen to my records.'

"I'm not here trying to advise anyone or tell anyone what to do, or tell anyone what to think, and I'm not here as a spokesman for anyone." Read more here.

Gilmour launched a world tour in support of the record with a September 5 warm-up show in Brighton, UK before playing a sold-out 11-date European tour that included five shows at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

The guitarist will next perform dates in South America this December ahead of a North American run in the spring of 2016. Watch the new video and a behind the scenes clip with Gilmour here.

Waylon Reavis Explains Departure From Mushroomhead(TeamRock Radio)

Former Mushroomhead singer Waylon Reavis says he's relieved to be free of "the burden" of being in the band. He confirmed this week he had left the group and cut all ties with their label, Filthy Hands Company, over "irreconcilable differences."
In a fresh video update, Reavis explains he's glad it's over and that the disagreements are no longer his "problem." Reavis says: "It's over and I'm so relieved. I'm at home with my family. For the first time in a long time, I don't feel a burden of Mushroomhead, and it did feel like a burden to me. It's not my burden, it's not my problem any more, and I'm glad it's gone."

He adds that he wishes the band well going forward, but admits he was unhappy for some time. He says: "I was planning this - it just happened a little sooner than I thought it would. I really wasn't happy. I hadn't been in a while.

"I have not been there in a while. I've been checked out. I've been doing my own thing. My heart wasn't there. My soul wasn't there. My time in Mushroomhead had run its course.

He continues: "I have 11 years of wonderful memories, but I'm ready for something else in my life. I'm ready for a change. I've lived the same monotony for too long. I just didn't agree with a lot of the decisions and where we were going, and that's fine - that's part of life. You don't have to agree with everything." Twenty One Pilots Want To Have 'Some Sort Of Impact On The World'(TeamRock Radio)

Twenty One Pilots drummer Josh Dun says he and Tyler Joseph's dream is for their music to resonate across the world. And he says while performing live is always a challenge, it's something the duo relish.
Dun tells the Houston Press: "We've both always wanted to be a part of something that has some sort of impact on the world. There's a lot of music that doesn't say or do much.

"And that's OK - there's a time and place for it, and I listen to a lot of it too. But, at the same time, there are people who are looking for something a bit more than that."

Dun refers to walking on stage as a "battle" but insists it's an experience he and Joseph always look forward to. He adds: "I think that the moment when I walk onstage and I don't feel like there's anything to overcome, that's when I might just want to be done." Read more here.

Gail Zappa, wife to the late-Frank Zappa and mother to Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva has died at the age of 70. She died away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 7, surrounded by her children.
The Zappa matriarch was born Adelaide Gail Sloatman. She married the avante-garde rocker Frank Zappa when she was 22. According to a statement released by the Zappa family, "Gail was a doe-eyed, barefooted trailblazer, giving equal value to her domestic and professional responsibilities as matriarch of the family and overseer of all Zappa enterprises. She devoted herself to partnering with her husband in the music business and raising their children, Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva."

Following Frank Zappa's death to prostate cancer in 1993, Gail took control of her late-husband's estate to create the Zappa Family Trust, to ensure his legacy as a masterful composer and a hugely important artist would remain intact. Gail went on to establish clear definitions of intellectual property and copyright laws on behalf of not just her husband, but all artists. Read more here.

Monkeyjunk Avoided Writing 'Another Moaning Record'(The Blues)

Monkeyjunk frontman Steve Marriner hopes the band's latest album will be an uplifting experience - and prove once again that they're more than a straight blues band.
The award-winning Canadian trio released Moon Turn Red last month, as the follow-up to 2013's All Frequencies. Marriner tells the Ottawa Citizen: "A lot of people's reality is that it's a day-to-day struggle. But just writing another moaning record isn't doing anyone any good.

"A lot of these songs and stories are designed to be uplifting. I came up with complaining lyrics - but wanted something to make the hippies dance at festivals. Sometimes the word 'love' is all you need. Everyone loves love."

And although he's keen to emphasis the band's other strengths, Marriner doesn't want to abandon their roots altogether. "Are we a blues band? Yes," he says. "But we're also a soul band, a funk band, a rock band. It depends on the day." Hear the new album's opening track Light It Up here.

Michael Monroe Hasn't Lost His Inspiration(Classic Rock)

Michael Monroe's latest album entitled Blackout States is out on October 9 - and the former Hanoi Rocks singer says that he's been through too many character building experiences to let his standards drop at this stage in his career.
He tells Mitch Lafon: "I get inspired by everything I hear and see from my life in general. The more mileage you have, the more experience and more stuff you have to write about. The songs are mainly about personal experiences. I actually feel pretty happy. I've never been complacent.

"Some people say you have to suffer for good art. I've suffered enough. I've got enough character - I don't need to build any more character. You don't have to really be in dire straits to write a good song."

He continues: "It's positive energy. I like to write about things that make people raise some questions. You don't have to turn your brain off to have a good time." Read more here.

John Lennon 75th Birthday Celebrated With Giant Peace Sign(Classic Rock)

John Lennon's 75th birthday was marked in New York on Tuesday (October 6) with a giant human peace sign in Central Park. The late Beatle's wife Yoko Ono arranged the gesture, with the help of 2000 fans, who stood in the shape of the symbol originally used by the UK's Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
She'd hoped to set a new world record - but the previous one, in which a peace sign was created by over 5000 people, remains. Lennon, who released peace anthem Imagine in 1978, was born on October 9, 1940, and shot dead on December 8, 1980.

Ono told fans: "Thank you for coming today. I really appreciate it. I love you!" She'll mark her late husband's actual birthday in Iceland, where she'll relight the Imagine Peace Tower beacon in his memory.
