The reunited Ugly Kid Joe have completed a new album, their first since 1995’s Motel California, drummer Shannon Larkin has confirmed.
The lineup for the sessions is Whitfield Crane (vocals), Klaus Eichstadt (guitar), Dave Fortman (guitar), Cordell Crockett (bass) and Larkin, the same lineup as their second album, Menace to Sobriety.
Larkin, who also is in Godsmack, revealed the album’s status in an interview with California’s 107.7 The Bone at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. “A lot of the songs, Klaus wrote in ’98,” Larkin said. “It’s a fun band – it’s funny, you listen to the songs and it makes you laugh. Just a good-time rock band, y’know?”
Originally named Overdrive, the band became Ugly Kid Joe as a joke when booked to support Pretty Boy Floyd. The name stuck and they scored hits with “Everything About You,” “Neighbor” and “Cat’s in the Cradle.” Guitarist Fortman, who joined in 1992, went on to produce Superjoint Ritual, Mudvayne, A Simple Plan, Evanescence and Slipknot. Fortman also mixed Anthrax’s forthcoming album Worship Music.

Queensrÿche’s Geoff Tate: ‘Rock is Pretty Much Dead’

Queensrÿche frontman Geoff Tate sees a pretty gloomy future for rock bands, unless they can adapt to new ways of doing things. The singer talked to Classic Rock magazine (via Blabbermouth) about how things have changed in the music industry and how his band is trying to change.
“Rock is pretty much dead. If you look at the numbers, it's definitely not the music of the times anymore,” Tate said. “If it’s gonna keep moving, bands need to embrace new ideas. There’s a lot of elements to rock that, mentally speaking, are kinda boneheaded. Like the whole ‘chunk-chunk-chunk’ guitar progression – the stuff you play when you're learning the damn thing. You would hope bands would get beyond that.”
In the same interview Tate spoke about Queensrÿche’s new album, Dedicated to Chaos, being a “headphones record,” tailor-made for the modern listener.
“That’s the way people listen to music now. People today are plugged in switching between their iPod and phone, back and forth, listening to music all day long,” he said. “No, I don’t miss the days of guys siting around listening to vinyl. I don’t miss the past much. I love the age we live in. Every day there’s something new to wrap your head around. I want to keep embracing new ideas, technology, work of art, literature, films. If you stop doing that, your brain gets lazy.”

July 18, 2011 Last week, Blink-182 finally released their new single, "Up All Night," and revealed that their upcoming album will be called Neighborhoods. The album reportedly has a release date of September 27, according to AOL's Spinner blog, and hopefully fans will be getting a taste of plenty of the new material when Blink hits the road in August with My Chemical Romance. Their 40-date tour will begin on August 5 in Holmdel, NJ, and end on October 15 in San Diego. "One of the things I'm really proud of about this record is a lot of the songs are really built for a big audience," Blink's Tom DeLonge told Spinner. "I think we've done a really great job kind of separating our record into sections, where some stuff is throwback, some stuff is very progressive, and some stuff is just plain different." As for "Up All Night" specifically, the song has actually been around for more than two years, ever since Blink-182 first started jamming together again in early 2009. However, during that time, the single has undergone some rather drastic changes. "'Up All Night' was the first song that we started writing when the band got back together," Mark Hoppus told MTV about the single. "The foundation of the song remains largely the same as when we first began, but over the past two years, as we've been recording others songs, coming back to this one, working on something else, coming back to this song, it's gotten harder and heavier than its original incarnation. Initially the chorus had much more air. It was a lofty, synth-y chorus, but we wanted the first song that people heard to be much more of a rocker. We changed a bunch of the instrumentation, recorded heavier guitars and bass, and Tom wrote the progression that the guitars take on in the chorus. Then Travis [Barker] took it over and the drums really solidified the rock element of the track. The half-time intro of the last section was all him, and I think punctuates the song very well." LED ZEPPELIN – 2007 Reunion Rehearsal Audio Surfaces!

TMD has obtained a soundboard outtake of “Good Times Bad Times” performed by LED ZEPPELIN during the rehearsal at Shepperton Studios for the legendary act’s December 10, 2007 reunion show in London at 02 arena.

This audio is making its debut on YouTube.

Though rumors have begun to swirl again about the legendary act reforming with Bonham’s son, Jason, on drums for a final tour, vocalist Robert Plant continues to be adamantly against the idea.

Vince Neil Explains Why Bands From The Nineties Disappeared

(RTTNews) - Vince Neil has explained why he thinks bands from the 1990's disappeared.

The Mötley Crüe singer (who is touring with Poison and the New York Dolls) explained: "Most bands forget that this is entertainment, and you've got to put a show on. Most of these bands are content to wear jeans and a t-shirt, and just stand there and play their music. Which, is kind of missing the point."
He then added: "That's why all those '90s bands disappeared. They were f****** depressing people."
Neil also expressed a lack of hope over new music: "I don't really listen, I don't know anything about new music or new bands that are out there. When I listen to music, I listen to stuff I grew up with. Hopefully, there will be a band that breaks through with the rock 'n' roll thing, but there just doesn't seem to be one."

DEF LEPPARD - R.I.P. JOE SNR.:

Recent Def Leppard US Tour Dates have been postponed due to the unfortunate passing of singer Joe Elliott's father. I sent condolences out via Twitter at the time, but I'd like to extend those well-wishes to Joe, his family and the Def Leppard family as a whole.
Tour manager Malvin posted this tribute on the DL website. I thought it would be fitting to pass it on here. R.I.P. Joe Snr.:

"A tribute to Joe Elliott Sr. - by Malvin Mortimer (friend & tour manager)
Joe's Elliott's father (“Joe Senior” to all that knew him well) suffered a significant heart attack in April this year, whilst in ICU he suffered two more attacks. He was very low for a week or so.
I was not surprised to hear from Joe a few days later that his dad was making a remarkable recovery. Not surprised because I knew him to be made of old style bricks and mortar, upright, forthright and as tough as nails. He was a gadget maker, he showed Joe how he devised home made radios, model aeroplanes and air rifles amongst other projects, in his spare time.
At the hospital Joe discussed the upcoming tour with his recovering father. Joe Senior insisted that his son go ahead and do the thing that had always made him proud. Joe packed his case and departed to start the 2011 tour.
When Joe recently heard that his dad's condition had deteriorated severely he had to think seriously about his next move. We had already arrived at the next show when the news arrived. Joe decided to go home to support his father and mother but he insisted on doing the show that night in honor of his father: a tribute to the person who, had he not supported and financed his son and his friends, then Def Leppard, as we know them, might never have been - and we might never have had the pleasure of listening to the music that spans more than 30 years from a group that has survived amidst great challenges and against all odds.
That night Joe appeared to be tearful coming off the stage for a change of shirt, at the end of “Love Bites”, I checked to see that he was OK…He explained that it was his dad's favorite tune. The next day, I took Joe to the airport and he flew to his father's bedside.
A few days ago, his condition worsening, Joe Senior finally succumbed to his increasing illness and passed away quietly in hospital. Joe and his mother were together at the hospital.
At the age of 18 Joe had an opportunity to join a band. The band met regularly in Joe's bedroom in the family home in Sheffield, UK- with the full support of his parents.
That band came to be known as Def Leppard.
In 1978 Joe asked his dad for some help to finance the recording and release of the first few songs written by the young and up and coming musicians. Joe senior put up 150 UK pounds. (at that time, about $500.) They recorded at Fairview studios in Hull, East Yorkshire, it cost 148.50 and with the loose change they shared fish and chips on the way home. (Joe's mother Cindy played guitar and taught Joe his first few chords, Joe Sr. actually recorded, on a primitive cassette device, Joe's first ever song. Joe was eight years old. The song was entitled "Goin' Forever").
Joe Senior will be missed by Cindy, Joe and all of us that knew him."

New Red Hot Chili Peppers Song Out Today

. (Gibson) The Red Hot Chili Peppers released the first single from their new album, I'm with You, today. "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" will be the first taste of the album, coming in late August. The song hit the airwaves on July 18.The Chili Peppers' also have launched a new Facebook page, where fans will receive updates from the Chili Peppers camp before the release of the album.I'm with You is the band's first album since Stadium Arcadium, and the first album with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. It will be released on August 30 in the U.S., and August 26 in other parts of the world.

Cheap Trick last night narrowly escaped injury when they abandoned a stage just moments before it collapsed in a heavy storm.
Five people were hurt in the drama, at least one of them seriously, following a freak gust of wind which tore a festival roof canopy apart.
The power-pop rock icons were performing a set at the open-air Bluesfest event in Ottawa, Canada, when the weather turned bad.
The four-piece abandoned the show and were being evacuated from the area when the stage roof and lighting rig crashed down on the place they’d been playing.
It’s thought a gust as strong as 90mph forced the construction to collapse.
Five people were treated at the scene for injuries, with three being sent to hospital. One of them, a 46-year-old man, is in a serious condition after his abdomen was pierced and his pelvis broken by a piece of the falling stage.
Cheap Trick are said to have been thrown to the ground during the collapse, but were unharmed. Frontman Robin Zander reports: “Everyone is okay. We’re lucky to be alive and we hope all the fans are okay too.”
Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Marc Messier says: “We responded to over 180 storm-related calls, including eight water-related emergencies. We had a great response from all emergency services and volunteers at Bluesfest.”

A couple years ago, someone created a Van Halen video game that you could play online. ”Assteroidz, Diamond Dave Edition” is basically a Van Halenized Asteroids game, done in an endearing way that features David Lee Roth & Van Halen imagery and sound.

(RTTNews) - "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," Dec. 16:

One of the most surprising hits of 2009 was "Sherlock Holmes," which turned a quirky new take on a familiar character into a burgeoning new franchise. With Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law atop the cast as sleuths Sherlock and Watson, "Sherlock Holmes" had plenty of comedic bickering between our two heroes, which seemed to stop only for the occasional explosion.
Back for a new adventure, Sherlock has a new impossible case to solve, giving him opportunities to practice his skills of weaponry and cross-dressing - two things heavily featured in the new full-length trailer.
Considering how popular the 2009 version was, there is little need to do much tinkering, which is why it isn't surprising that "A Game of Shadows" looks like a mere continuation of the last film.
Director Guy Ritchie created a unique visual landscape for the original, substituting the usual Hollywood gloss for the dirt and grime of 19th century England. With Ritchie back at the helm for this one and all the major members of the cast returning, including Rachel McAdams, "A Game of Shadows" looks to be more popcorn fun with equal measures of outlandish comedy and action.

VH1 CLASSIC TO CELEBRATE 'NATIONAL METAL DAY':

From Gibson.com: "In case you haven't heard, “National Metal Day” is planned for November 11 (11-11-11), and headbangers of all kinds are ready to go to 11 on this new holiday. VH1 Classic is right there with them; the cable channel is planning a bunch of special programming to celebrate.
VH1 Classic will turn the holiday into an 11-day event (from November 1-11), with concerts and specials that feature Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest and many other metal titans. November 11 also will see the debut of Behind the Music Remastered: Megadeth.
But the highlight might be an all-new, 11-part series titled Metal Evolution, which will chronicle the history of all things metal. Episode one will debut on November 11 and focus on proto-metal artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Subsequent installments will focus on the new wave of British heavy metal, glam metal, thrash metal and more.
“Nobody is more metal than VH1 Classic,” said Ben Zurier, executive vice president of programming strategy at VH1 and VH1 Classic, in a statement. “Celebrating National Metal Day on 11-11-11 gives us a platform to honor metal artists, and take metal music one step further than anybody has before.”

Listen To Blink-182's First New Song in 8 Years Up All Night

. Big news for Blink-182 fans, the band is back with a brand new song called "Up All Night." The trio's first new song in eight years, "Up All Night" made its radio debut last on Los Angeles' KROQ-FM. "Up All Night," the lead single from the band's forthcoming album (title to be revealed shortly), is available for streaming on the band's website here.
In other news, Blink-182 is set to head up the 2011 Honda Civic Tour, 10 years after they played the trek's inaugural run. The summer and fall tour is set to run for 40-plus dates nationwide will kick off on Friday, August 5th and will run until October 15th when it wraps in San Diego, CA.
Support acts for the anniversary tour include Manchester Orchestra, Rancid and Matt & Kim.
"It's great to be going back out on the Honda Civic Tour," said Mark Hoppus of blink-182. "We had a blast kicking off the tour ten years ago, and this summer we'll be taking it to the next level with our friends ."

The return of Van Halen draws near, but the details are still unclear. The Van Halen News Desk wades through all the rumors on the ‘net so you don’t have to! Here’s this week’s news/rumors on Van Halen:

1) ALBUM & TOUR RUMORS: Melodicrock.com reports that a “known and trusted source close to ground zero” says that Van Halen’s US tour will commence in NOVEMBER and that it is likely that the band will stay on the road thru the next Northern summer (mid-2012) with the tour taking in Asia, South America and Europe (watch for the band to possibly headline some festivals in Europe 2012). They also hear that the album is still being mixed and they are betting on the album dropping in October.
2) AND ANOTHER ONE’S HEARD IT! Morgan from the band Sevendust (who are all huge VH fans) has heard at least some of the unreleased Van Halen album and said, “It’s fucking killer. Eddie hasn’t sounded this good since Balance. Dave’s voice sounds great. Alex is absolutely bombastic.”
3) ENGINEER SAYS VAN HALEN IS ON FIRE: Producer/engineer Ross Hogarth recently spoke to Ultimate-Guitar.com about his work on the new Van Halen album; “The whole VAN HALEN record has been recorded and we’re all excited,” Hogarth said. “We have just started mixing the record. I’m really stoked about it, as it is the original band, Eddie [Van Halen, guitar] and Alex [Van Halen, drums] with Wolf [Eddie's son] playing bass, and David Lee Roth singing, it’s the killing side of VAN HALEN at the top of their game again with Diamond Dave, and the band on fire.”
4) OFFICIAL SITES UPDATED: The official websites for both Van Halen and David Lee Roth have finally been updated, but don’t get too excited–the only change is that they both show nothing but the following graphic promoting the band’s 5 Australia concerts in Sept & Oct:

• Turns out the male acquaintance who struck Nicki Minaj in the face at a hotel in Dallas was her assistant. His weapon: a suitcase, according to the police report. She's not pressing charges, though. [TMZ]
• A "cringe-making" "trailer" for Tony Romo's wedding to beauty queen Candice 'Little Sister of Chace' Crawford leaked online yesterday. Apparently that is something fancy wedding people do now? It showed football-themed desserts, squealing bridesmaids, and Candice's elaborate hairdo. The genetic material of how many humans is included in that weave, do you think? [Us, Deadspin]
• Daniel Baldwin recently filed for divorce. The reason: His wife assaulted him with a phone, pulled a knife on him, and threatened to kill him, he says. Said wife was arrested for a probation violation for driving drunk yesterday afternoon. [TMZ, TMZ]
• In other Baldwin family dysfunction news, Alec Baldwin has progressed from ranting at daughter Ireland in voice messages, to ranting at her on Twitter. Paul Rudd has been announced as the lead in a film adaptation of "This American Life."

(RTTNews) - Paul Rudd has been announced as the lead in a film adaptation of "This American Life."

Rudd will star as Bob Nelson, a TV repairman who kicks off the 1960's cryogenics craze by freezing dead people in hopes of reviving them in the future. The film—based on a 2008 "This American Life" story—will be adapted by documentarian Errol Morris and scripted by Zach Helm ("Stranger Than Fiction"), with TAL's Ira Glass and Alissa Shipp producing the project.
Rudd is currently reprising his "Knocked Up" role in an untitled film with Leslie Mann (directed by Judd Apatow) and will next be seen in "Our Idiot Brother" (which is slated for release on August 26) and "Wanderlust" (which will be released this fall).

(RTTNews) - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are planning to marry after six years—and six children—together.

The Hollywood couple will be marrying at their newly-renovated Chateau Miraval in Correns, France (which features a renovated 16th century chapel), according to reports by sources close to the couple to Us Weekly, with the wedding expected to be "intimate and informal." The wedding news accords with comments made by Pitt to USA Today in May, when he noted: "The kids ask about marriage. It's meaning more and more to them."
The couple--parents to Maddox (9), Pax (7), Zahara (6), Shiloh (5), and twins Vivienne and Knox (3)--had previously stated that they would not be married until gay marriage becomes legal in the U.S.
The smaller, more intimate ceremony would be less spectacular and expensive than Pitt's $1 million wedding to Jennifer Aniston in 2000.

LED ZEPPELIN guitar legend Jimmy Page joined THE BLACK CROWES on stage last night (Wednesday, July 13) at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, England to perform the song "Shake Your Money Maker". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below. In October 1999, Page teamed up with THE BLACK CROWES for a two-night performance of material from the LED ZEPPELIN catalogue and old blues and rock standards. A live album, "Live At The Greek", was recorded during these shows and released in February 2000. The set was dominated by LED ZEPPELIN tunes, along with a mix of classic blues nuggets and covers of FLEETWOOD MAC and Page's first group, THE YARDBIRDS. (Due to contractual obligations, no CROWES songs were included.)
