This Week In Rock News!

Here are the top stories from this past week.

Singer Abducted and Beaten After Concert
(Banana 101.5) Recently reunited pop-rockers The Calling had a not-so-warm welcome back this weekend, as their singer Alex Band was abducted and beaten just hours after their performance at the Lapeer Days festival.

If you were anywhere near a radio at any point in 2001, you definitely heard The Calling's 'Wherever You Will Go,' as it was playing in super heavy rotation all across the country. It was #1 on the Adult Top 40 for 23 consecutive weeks and was even named "Song of the Decade" by Billboard Magazine. Apparently, not everyone feels as strongly about the tune… at least not in a positive way, that is. After their recent experience in the Lapeer, the band will likely amend the song's hook as follows:

According to a number of sources, The Calling's singer Alex Band was walking back to his hotel after a run up to a nearby convenience store when he was abducted, robbed and beaten by two men in a blue minivan. The alleged assault took place in Lapeer on West Street near S. Main Street between 3 and 4am.

After being found on some nearby railroad tracks, Band was taken to McLaren – Lapeer Region Emergency Center, where he was treated for his injuries and then released. You can hear the 911 call by his manager and read more - here.

Guns N' Roses Song Leaked?
(TeamRock Radio) A track believed to be a previously unheard song by Guns N' Roses appeared briefly online yesterday and was quickly removed. It was called Going Down and featured bassist Tommy Stinson on lead vocals, with Axl Rose supplying backing.

Stinson himself released a tweet admitting it was a real GnR work, but the message was deleted soon afterwards, along with the Soundcloud music stream and a YouTube version.

MetalSucks' Axl Rosenberg said he believed Going Down could be nine years old or more, as some of the guitar work sounded like that of Buckethead, who left the band in 2004. - more on this story

Scott Weiland Apologizes To Stone Temple Pilots Fans
(hennemusic) Scott Weiland issued an onstage apology to Stone Temple Pilots fans during his solo show at the Trocadero in Philadelphia this past Saturday night, and video of the event has surfaced.

Scott's speech began during a fan chat of "Fuck you, Chester", a reference to Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who joined Stone Temple Pilots earlier this year amid lawsuits by both Weiland and his former band.

"It's just a big 'ol planet, a big 'ol universe and in a big circle, it all works out," began Weiland in Philadelphia. "Anyway… Actually, Chester has his own band that makes a lot of money. I'm not really quite sure why he joined a band who is actually nameless."

"The problem is I shouldn't have said anything at all," he continued, "and I apologize to those fans out there who are, feel like they're caught in the middle of it, cause I sure feel like I'm caught in the middle of it emotionally, and all I want to do is play music, man." - Check out the video here.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse Cancel American Dates Due To Injury
(hennemusic) Neil Young & Crazy Horse have cancelled their upcoming four-city North American tour due to an injury to guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro's hand.

"[His] doctor has indicated that Sampedro's hand requires additional time to heal properly," according to a statement sent out by Warner Bros. Records on Monday.

The group said, "We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes to our fans or the festivals where we were scheduled to appear. As you must be, we too are disappointed at this unfortunate turn of events."

The band canceled the final seven dates of their summer European tour earlier this month due to the injury, which a source close to the Young camp recently told Rolling Stone is "a mild fracture." - However, they still have some dates coming up that have not been canceled.

Paul McCartney Wants to Play Final Concert At Candlestick Park
(Radio.com) In 1966, San Francisco's Candlestick Park hosted The Beatles' final show. Now Paul McCartney is offering to return the favor by headlining the stadium's final show before it gets knocked down in 2014.

The city's mayor Ed Lee told the San Francisco Chronicle that McCartney threw out the idea a half hour before taking the stage at this year's Outside Lands Festival. "And it was him who made the suggestion," Lee said. "Believe me, it wasn't something I, or anyone else, was expecting."

The two talked about Candlestick and how the city was collecting photos and videos to honor the Beatles' final concert. McCartney then compared the Candlestick tribute to what they did at Shea Stadium in New York, where the Beatles played two of their most famous show. McCartney played Shea Stadium just before it was demolished in 2009 and then, along with Billy Joel, helped christen Citi Field where the Mets now play.

According to Lee, McCartney then said, "Well, if you are going to tear down the stadium next year, we should think about us doing the last concert there." - more on this story

System Of A Down Will Make A New Album
(TeamRock Radio) System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan has assured fans there will be another album, but not just yet. Reports have been confused from within the band, with bassist Shavo Odadjuan having complained that frontman Serj Tankian was responsible for their lack of studio action, then apologising for his comments.

Last month Dolmayan told an audience in Los Angeles that the next time they were in town a new record would be on the shelves. But Tankian has emphasised that, while he's not against making another album, there's nothing in the pipeline yet.

Now Dolmayan says: "The next album is coming. It's coming at some point." Asked if they're already working on it, he says: "We're not – just in our heads." - more.

Journey Singer Nearly Collapsed In Terror Before Big Show
(Classic Rock) Arnel Pineda nearly collapsed in terror as he geared up to perform to 25 million people soon after being confirmed as Journey's frontman.

The previously-unknown vocalist was hired in 2006 after guitarist Neal Schon saw him covering Journey tracks in a YouTube video. But nothing could have prepared him for one of his first appearances with the band, in Vina del Mar, a sold-out show which was being televised live across South America.

Schon tells Rolling Stone: "We there him in the fire, no doubt about it. Two seconds before we go, Arnel is like: 'Can I go home? I don't want to go out.'

"It was fear and loathing to the max – but then he went out, and he went for it, and the audience went nuts."

Pineda recalls: "I was terrified to death. It took years, but I survived it." - more on this story

Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme Talks New Album Plans
(Radio.com) For a band as big and established as Queens of the Stone Age, 2013 has proved to be quite the comeback year for frontman Josh Homme and company, following a six-year dry spell.

After more than a decade recording for Interscope Records, the band made a change to stalwart indie label Matador. The move resulted in …Like Clockwork, which was not only the band's first release to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, but also Matador's first chart-topping full-length.

Radio.com sat down with Homme and guitarist Troy Van Leeuween earlier this year, when the pair discussed everything from working with the likes of Elton John and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys on the new album to Homme dishing on a traffic accident in which an unnamed actress from TV's One Tree Hill nearly killed him.

With the band blazing around the world, performing at a slew of music festivals over the summer, we recently caught up with Homme as QOTSA embarked on their own headlining tour, something he admitted he was especially excited about. While Homme sounded tired speaking on the phone from a hotel room on the road, he assures us it's the "good kind of tired" that comes from preaching the rock and roll gospel night after night from the hallowed pulpit that is the stage.

Radio.com: You recently mentioned the idea of the new QOTSA album coming out sooner than later, and having it be more of an upbeat counterpart to …Like Clockwork. Is that something you've thought about more since then?

Homme: Those are all just wishes. In a way, I probably guaranteed that it will be anything except that. This is the problem of talking about something before you do it. You sort of jinx the living hell out of it. I know this: I wanna create more stuff. Maybe we should just say touring is a part of what we do, but we'll just slowly and continuously do it without stopping. We'll go slower and take longer breaks, and there will just be records over the top of that and we'll just keep going. Maybe it should just be this slow-moving tank that keeps on rolling.

Radio.com: It seems like you're changing up the setlist every night.

Homme: We always put in a different three or four songs, at the minimum, for every show. We have a new drummer [Jon Theodore], and we're actually learning our old stuff so we can change around the setlists drastically. We have a lot of people that will come to multiple shows, and even if it's only five people, they might want to see something else. Also for us, too, it keeps it fresh. I've seen a lot of bands, we've played festivals with them, and they play the same set every night, say the same things in between songs. That would be hard for me to do. Like last night we played in Edmonton, and the crowd was so good, you know? And I told them that, and I don't say that every night. It's not necessary to shine ass like that. But I want people to know that I mean it when I say it. I just do whatever it takes to make every show as original as possible. - more on this story

Savoy Brown's Kim Simmonds Guitar Plans Didn't Go As Planned
(The Blues) Savoy Brown frontman Kim Simmonds says he first picked up a guitar because he thought it would help him make friends, but it didn't work out like that at first.

The veteran guitarist, singer and composer is the only person to have featured in every lineup of the band, which has seen 59 members move through the ranks since 1965.

Simmons tells the Journal Standard: "I bought my first guitar when I was 13. I had no idea at the time that I was meant to be an artist of some sort.

"I remember taking the guitar to school and thinking that I could make some friends with it. I think that was the advert that led me to buy the guitar: 'Make friends at school!'

"What I didn't realise was that, for the next three years, I'd lock myself in my bedroom, teach myself by playing along with records – and make no friends whatsoever." - But it doesn't end there.

Music Isn't Just A Side Interest For Hugh Laurie
(The Blues) Actor Hugh Laurie has just released his second blues album, Didn't It Rain and he accepts the fact it's been received with a certain amount of suspicion.

The former comedy partner of Stephen Fry – who always played piano as part of their act – is best known as TV doctor House in the US. He tells GMA:

"I completely understand people who look at this whole thing, and it might look like a hobby, or it might look like a sort of vacation. It isn't that at all. Believe it or not, this is where I always wanted to be. I'm lucky enough to be here now." - He had a lot more to say including reflecting on House.

Robert Cray To Begin New Album This Fall

Cray tells Spokesman.com: "We sang about home foreclosures, people losing their jobs and getting swindled. If you touch on current events is keeps the music going."

His current US tour will keep him on the road until October 27. But that's no problem, because touring is where he receives inspiration – and gives it too. - Find out what he had to say.

Jane's Addiction Release Another Soulmate Lyric Video
(hennemusic) Jane's Addiction have released a lyric video for their new single, "Another Soulmate" which is a song that Perry Farrell says was inspired by true events.

"Jane's is kind of known for long songs," singer Perry Farrell told Rolling Stone recently. "Being this is a one-song single, I thought it'd be interesting to try and write a Beatles-esque short song that would be fast and furious and it would just be fun, dig it and move on, short attention span."

The new tune was inspired by true events. "Etty [Lau Farrell, Perry's wife] had a girlfriend and this girlfriend, as all people do, really wanted a mate, and I think she shortchanged herself an awful lot in life," Farrell explained.

"She's a good-looking woman, she had a career, but when it came to love and romance, she sold herself short all the time and she would reach out to guys that we would scratch our head like, 'What is she doing with this guy?' She said, 'I feel like he's my soul mate.' Any time she'd meet a guy she'd say, 'I feel like he's my soul mate.' So I wrote this song." - Check out the video here.

God Forbid Break Up
Members from the band God Forbid have posted online statements announcing that the group has broken up after their guitarist Doc Coyle posted a lengthy message to fans announcing his departure from the group.

Coyle broke the news to fans on Friday (see his full statement below) and a short time later both frontman Byron Davis and drummer Corey Pierce posted their own messages.

Davis told fans, "It's Friday and my boy is home doing well and yes it's true, GF is down. We are a family for the most part some moveon while others keep it real like before the band began.

"I should feel sad but I dont right now because a new chapter has begun. I'll be seeing you all around somewhere. Believe that. Uncle Corey J needs some drums I have a guitar too for him. Blabbering."

Pierce followed with this brief statement, "No more suspense... God Forbid is over. Sorry."

Here is Coyle's full statement: "I am sorry to say that I am indeed leaving God Forbid. I started playing with these guys since I was 16 years old. Now I'm 32. You do the math. To say this is difficult and a big move for me would be an understatement. It has been very emotional and very sad for me to actually follow through with this, but I feel in my heart and head that it is the right thing to do.

"Let's first remove the elephant from the room, and explain why I am leaving. I don't want to leave the band, but there are elements of disorganization and unprofessionalism within the group that have made it impossible to be an effectively active band. I don't feel like I'm being treated in a way that meets my standards, so I have to remove myself from the equation. I'm not going into great detail because I don't want to throw anyone under the bus. I still love all the guys in God Forbid. They will always be my family even if there isn't a working band. But just because you love your family doesn't mean you can work with them in a professional sense.

"Anyone who has read any of my blogs has probably heard me talk about trying to cope with confronting adulthood after living a musician's life for my entire youth. I probably never, ever even entertained the idea of quitting God Forbid until my brother left in the spring of 2009. I always thought we were destined to 'make it'. I thought we were special. Nothing existed outside of the band. Nothing else mattered. Girlfriends, financial security, real world stuff would always take a back seat to the band. Even my girlfriends pretty much knew that.

"When Dallas quit, I became emboldened to carry on in spite of him. I wanted to prove that we didn't need him. And carry on we did as God Forbid had 3 of the biggest tours we ever had all booked in a row with Kris Norris filling in on a massive tour with Lamb of God, and than Matt Wicklund finally coming in to finish a festival run in Europe and than Mayhem Fest in the states. I never really dealt with Dallas leaving on an emotional level, because we were steadily on the road. I was so angry with him. He was pretty much by my side for my entire life either on stage, binge watching movies, drawing comics, playing basketball, playing guitar together or living in the bedroom next to mine in the same house. Than just like that…..he was gone.

"Things began to unravel on the Mayhem Fest 2009. The band was financially and logistically unprepared for the tour with very little label support because we were at the end of our contract with Century Media despite the efforts of A&R at the time, the eager and helpful Ray Harkins. We ended up splitting with our manager at the beginning of the tour because of the sh*tstorm of unpreparedness. Plus I could just tell, we weren't connecting with fans the same way we had, say at Ozzfest 5 years prior. The tour featured a lot of death metal, Behemoth, Job For a Cowboy, Black Dahlia Murder. There just seemed to be a turning of the tide, and as an artist you have to be aware of how the world is perceiving you. For some reason, whatever we were doing was not breaking through to the populous the same way.

"Just to put a cherry on top, my girlfriend broke up with me literally on the drive home from the tour due to finding out about some f**kery on my behalf. It didn't really hit me til I walked in my door at home, but I realized my brother was gone, my girl was gone, and my band career as a full time thing was probably over. I fell into a deep depression because I didn't have a leg to stand on and probably didn't get back on track for another 7-8 months. For the first time in my adult life though, I didn't really care about God Forbid. At that point, the band seemed to be the cause of my problems.

"But playing with the guys, and writing with Matt Wicklund in particular, really inspired me and helped me get out of my funk. I continued with the Equilibrium album out of loyalty to the guys, and I believe in finishing things I start, and that included doing some touring as well. All in all, I don't regret it because I think it's a fantastic album, if not our best album.

"Unfortunately, touring with the band last year proved to be unsustainable from a financial survival standpoint. I was homeless, in debt and needed to figure something out, because this lifestyle I was living was not working. "The last few years are the first time in my life I've really thought about what I wanted to do outside of God Forbid.

"The answer is A LOT. I have so many ideas and prospective projects on the docket, that I'm sure many of them will never see the light of the day. My priorities right now are having the time and freedom to be creative and productive. While still trying to keep the lights on of course. This is both exciting and scary. I'm not sure if I will end up with a regular career that puts me in an office 5 days a week or end up in another band touring full time again. I am just taking things as they come. I'm sure many of you have seen the reports regarding my new rock band and cover band, so I'm obviously continuing to play as much as possible. It's still my favorite thing to do in the world, so I will not be stopping playing or performing anytime soon. Having this time recently to figure out what I want has made me realize that being a musician is who I am. Even if I end up doing other things, I will always be a rock n roller at heart.

"I am keeping the door open to all forthcoming opportunities and I am not closing the door on God Forbid forever, but now is not the time." -

Aerosmith Cancel Concerts
Aerosmith announced on Sunday that they have been forced to cancel two music festival appearances this week because the local promoter for the shows was "unable to meet contractual obligations."

The band was scheduled to perform at festivals in China this week as part of their Global Warming Tour but have pulled out the shows in Shanghai on August 21st and Taipei on August 24th.

The group's representative sent over these comments from the band: "We are extremely upset to have disappointed our dedicated fans," says Steven Tyler. "They have welcomed us into their country and due to uncontrollable circumstances we will not be able to perform. We were so excited to share our music with them and look forward to one day returning and giving them the show they deserve."

"It's always been a dream of ours to play in Shanghai and Taipei, and meet our fans there," Tom Hamilton says. "We were really looking forward to visiting Shanghai and Taipei and playing for our fans there and are very disappointed that these two shows have been cancelled."

"We're disappointed as we wanted to play for our fans," said Joe Perry. "We've looked forward to this for a lifetime."

"I'm disappointed we weren't able to play for our fans in China; however, the circumstances were beyond our control," says Joey Kramer. "I sincerely hope Aerosmith will get another opportunity to come back to Shanghai and Taiwan to play for our many fans there."

The Replacements Confirm Reunion Lineup
(Classic Rock) The Replacements have confirmed their lineup for a handful of reunion shows 22 years after they last performed. Original members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson will be joined by drummer Josh Freese and bassist David Minehan.

Freese, who's previously played with Devo, Weezer and Nine Inch Nails, was also a member of Guns n'Roses alongside Stinson, and toured as part of Westerberg's solo band in the 1990s alongside Minehan.

The band were reactivated after former guitarist Slim Dunlap suffered a debilitating stroke last year. Westerberg and Stinson recorded a covers EP, Songs For Slim, to help with his medical bills. They recorded again in May this year, at which point they also finally accepted an invitation to play live. - more on this story

Dark Angel Address Reunion Rumors
Dark Angel singer Don Doty and drummer Gene Hoglan have addressed rumors that the band was planning to reunite and confirmed that they are currently discussing the possibility.

Hoglan says, "Howdy everybody. Now that I'm off the road for a few minutes, I'd like to address these Dark Angel rumors that are flying around. Yes, we have been talking about doing something next year, and although it looks like possibly some festivals could be in the works, right now it's just speculation. Don Doty and myself have been in contact for the first time in many many years, and it's been great to re-connect with my old friend.

"Fortunately, I've remained great buddies with all the DFA guys after all these years, and we do try to stay in contact with each other and see each other when we can, especially since we are all spread out over the Western US.

"We are indeed discussing the possibility of a reunion, and yes, the DFA guys are well aware of all of my other commitments, such as Testament, Dethklok and the like. So again, we are moving forward s-l-o-w-l-y, with hopes to getting Dark Angel's wings off the ground for festival season in 2014."

Doty had this to say, "Members of Dark Angel are currently sitting down for talks for a reunion. This will be for the year 2014. All are excited. I was talking on a radio show recently and had said that all members would be attending, this statement may have been misunderstood.

(Radio.com) Originally borne from the ashes of Texas post-hardcore heroes At the Drive-In, prog-rock outfit The Mars Volta shocked the music world when singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala unexpectedly announced the band's break-up via Twitter in January of this year.

While The Mars Volta has splintered into two new bands — Bosnian Rainbows and Zavalaz, the group's legions of diehard fans are celebrating the release of 15 previously unheard tracks, which according to Spin were recorded with a most unlikely ally: EDM superstar David Guetta.

The tracks appeared on the Comatorium, a fan site for The Mars Volta. They were posted by site member ShaREEB, who says he received the songs from a random user who asked that he share them online.

While excited fans quickly began downloading and analyzing the trove of unearthed TMV tunes, Bixler-Zavala again took to Twitter to allegedly explain the music's surprising origins. - Read that and more including the download link.

Jeff Beck Appears On New Album From Queen's Roger Taylor
(Gibson) Queen drummer Roger Taylor has confirmed that his new solo album, Fun on Earth, will be released in October. Included on the disc is a re-make of "Say It's Not True," which was the first Queen studio single to feature singer Paul Rodgers.

In a recent interview with Classic Rock, Taylor said: "My first solo effort (in 1981) was called Fun in Space. I've called this one Fun on Earth. I've come down to earth a bit, but there's still a bit of fun in there--some smiley tracks.

"It's been written over a five year period, so it's very eclectic. Some gentle stuff, some rockier stuff, and some fairly political stuff." - more on this story

Massive Glam Rock Box Set Coming In Rocktober
(Classic Rock) A five-disc box set celebrating the history of glam rock aims to tell the entire story of the movement through 91 tracks. "Oh Yes We Can Love: The History Of Glam Rock" will be released by Universal on October 28 – but it contains much more than the usual suspects.

The label explains: "It isn't just Bowie, Bolan and Gary Glitter – it explores a complete myriad of mutations from early origins in Chuck Berry and Little Richard to the contemporary evolution in The Darkness and Foxy Shazam, and everything in between.

"When Marc Bolan appeared on Top of the Pops in 1971, daubed in glitter, it permitted a generation of teenyboppers to begin playing with the idea of androgyny. It marked the dawning of a new era, a rejection of what had gone before.

"Arguably reaching its zenith in 1973 when the likes of Slade, Sweet and Suzi Quatro all had a run of chart-topping singles, the death-knell was eventually sounded by the rise of punk. Yet throughout the 80s and 90s and into the new millennium, bands have often drawn liberally from the lexicon of glam." - More including the tracklist

Jon Lord's Concerto Coming to Blu-Ray and Vinyl
Late Deep Purple legend Jon Lord's "Concerto For Group And Orchestra" is set to be released as Blu-ray/CD set and on double vinyl on September 3rd. The new release follows the standard CD release from September 2012.

Lord said of the project in May 2012, shortly before his death, "Over these last years since leaving Deep Purple, I've played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with Purple on the Concerto tour, so I've been honing the piece live on stage, and I've had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren't sounding quite right. It is therefore a marvelous and exciting prospect to have the definitive recording of the definitive version of the score."

The recording of the project began in Liverpool in June of 2011 when Lord recorded the rhythm section by conductor Paul Mann with Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Madonna) and Brett Morgan (Jon Anderson, Sting) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The recording then moved to the famed Abbey Road Studios in London where Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, Steve Balsamo and Kasia Laska recorded vocals and Joe Bonamassa, Darin Vasilev and Steve Morse recorded guitar parts.

The double vinyl release will feature a special bonus of Jon Lord's last interview with the BBC from August 2012. The Blu-ray + CD release will include the full Concerto on CD and a 5.1 audio bonus piece on the Blu-ray, as well as a "Making Of" feature, in-depth interviews with Paul Mann and Marco de Goeij, and an exclusive new behind the scenes documentary "Up Close & Personal (Orchestral Recording Sessions)". -

Producer Excited With New Paul McCartney Album
(Gibson) Paul McCartney's forthcoming solo album is looking exceptionally strong, according to producer Ethan Johns. Johns, one of several producers working with the former Beatle, spoke with Rolling Stone about a ballad titled "Hosannah."

"The first day we had was remarkable," he said. "[McCartney] walked in with this incredible song, we threw up a couple of microphones and within four hours we had this great track. I think we did an edit between the first two takes."

The veteran soundman continued: "It had an incredible feel – a really evocative piece of music. A very interesting lyric, and the performance was great. Then we started to experiment with it, and I put a bunch of psychedelic strangeness on it. You have fun. 'Oh, try this! Do that!' It's just very inspiring to be around."

Johns was especially impressed by McCartney's receptive view towards collaboration, adding: "The first thing he said was, 'What do you feel like doing?' I could have said, 'Let's spend the day making percussion loops with drum machines,' and he would have been, 'Great! Let's do that!' I don't think he ever said 'No,' which is kind of the mark of who he is as an artist, really. He's always up for trying something new." - more on this story

Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band Going Down Under

The tour will be kicking off on February 7th with group's very first concert in Perth. The tour also features the group's first concert in Adelaide and their first concert in New Zealand in over a decade when they close out the tour on March 1st in Auckland.

Jon Landau explains why the band decided to go back, "Our shows in Australia earlier this year were among the very best and most satisfying of our whole 128 show tour.

"The crowds were tremendous, the fans as warm, friendly, and welcoming as we could ever hope for, and the quality of the performances, as virtually every reviewer commented, were spectacularly high.

"From the moment we finished the second show at Hanging Rock on March 31, we have been working on a plan to return next year. Among other things, we wanted to expand the number of places we play to include the Hunter Valley, Perth and Adelaide, with a trip to Auckland, as well. Those venues are in addition to the new dates in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

"In other words, this will be our most far reaching tour of Australasia ever - and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are planning to make it their finest." - more on this story

Motley Crue To Launch Farewell Tour Next Year
(Gibson) Motley Crue's Vince Neil says recent talk that the band's days are winding down is true. Speaking to Billboard.com, the veteran singer revealed that a farewell tour is being mounted for next year.

"I think we'll start the tour around May—I'm just kind of guessing on that, but in the spring of '14, and we'll do one more time around the world and kind of call it quits," said the Crue frontman.

"It's just that time. We're going out on top. We don't want to be some band that people are like, 'Oh, they're playing a club now,' that kind of band. We still sell out arenas, have stadium stuff and things like that, so let's go out when it's a big deal."

Neil added that new music from Crue would be forthcoming, most likely to accompany the film adaptation of the band's autobiography, The Dirt. The movie is currently in development. "It's going to come out at some point before our tour starts," he said. "We're hoping an early spring kind of thing." more on this story

The Cult Singer Explains Confrontation With Fan
(hennemusic) Last week, Ian Astbury of The Cult stopped the band's show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to address a fan who was filming and texting during the concert, and now the singer is explaining his side of the story in a new interview.

"Initially the guy was filming the whole show — he was filming everything," Astbury tells Vanyaland.com. "When you've got someone visualizing the show through a cell phone, that action spreads out through the crowd. And this genius, first of all, I politely asked him to stop filming; I don't mind if you take pictures, that's cool, filming little bits – but don't film the entire set; enough's enough. At first I was kind of amused, but the next thing, he's texting during a song. That's incredibly disruptive, watching people in the front row so disconnected from the process — not even present. You might as well stay at home."

"I commented to this guy, 'Will you please stop texting?' He didn't pay attention," Astbury explained. "I had water in my mouth, I sprayed it right next to him, and he just exploded — exploded; trying to climb over the barriers, trying to get into a fight with me, he's flipping me off, he's screaming at me, 'F**k you…' And I was just like, 'You're rude. This is our house, you're behaving disrespectfully, you're disruptive, you're affecting the functioning of the whole evening, and you're disconnected — so why bother coming?'" More.

The guys plan to plot things out once they actually get into the same room together, which as Hoppus explained, doesn't happen that often.

"When [we're not touring], Tom lives in San Diego, Travis lives in Los Angeles and I live in London, so we don't really talk all that much," he said. Gwar Pay Tribute To The Late Flattus Maximus With New Album
Metal Blade Records have set a September 17th release date for Gwar's new studio album, "Battle Maximus," which the group's first studio album release since the death of longtime guitarist Flattus Maximus.

"This album is both a tribute to Flattus and a telling of the next chapter in the story of Gwar," says Gwar frontthing Oderus Urungus. "The combo of the brand new album and show should satisfy even the most hardcore Flattus devotee with the fact that Gwar's slay-skills are as supreme as ever, and the band stands poised to embark on our most earth-shattering world tour yet.

"We have mourned, we have honored, and now it's time to f**king Devastate in the name of Flattus and the supreme entity
that is Gwar.

"This is our first record in our brand-new Slave Pit Studios, which Flattus had a lead role in designing, but without him we had no one left to twiddle the buttons, much less play the blazing metal leads and provide the musical direction that rescued Gwar from the depths of clown-band obscurity. I mean, Balsac is no slouch, but Flattus' departure left a huge hole in our band. We had no choice. We had to blow the Horn of Hate..."

New Gwar-tarist, Pustulus Maximus adds, "It is a highlight of my corpse-littered life to join my Scumdog brothers and continue the legendary legacy of the Maximus clan. I am not so happy that Oderus vandalized my space-ship, effectively marooning me on Earth, but f**k it...it's time to ROCK!"

Led by guitarist-singer J Mascis, the trio formed in the mid '80s and rose to prominence as a favorite of such peers as Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Iggy Pop.

The band is sometimes credited with restoring lead guitar to indie rock--a reputation well-earned, given Mascis's penchant for flavoring his songs with shards of guitar noise and shrieking feedback.

How The Scream Lost Their Voice To Motley Crue
The latest episode of Talking Metal features an exclusive interview with Bruce Bouillet (Racer X/The Scream) and during the chat he talked about The Scream losing John Corabi to Motley Crue.

Corabi was hired by Motley Crue when Vince Neil left the group (or was fired depending who is telling the story) and the group put out one album with Corabi on lead vocals before the band reunited with Neil.

Bouillet had this to say about the moment he realized that Motley Crue wanted their lead singer, "We were at the point where we were doing pretty well. We had just gotten back from playing the Astoria Theater in London.

"The reception in London was really pretty amazing but in the same sentence, Alderete and myself were hearing the musical change coming. Juan was always interested in the new underground music coming up. I think The Scream would've transformed more into that heavier grungier sound because we were basically laying and sitting on the fence on it already.

"We were driving to what would have been one of our last shows, I'm driving with the bass player, Juan, and we hear on the radio that Vince Neil is out of Motley Crue and we are like 'wow that is pretty big news', you know.

"We get to the gig and there is this big commotion out in the audience and we are getting ready to go on, it is a pretty full club. We look out and it is Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx. I remember Alderete and I looked at each other and said 'we think we know what is going on. ' We wished John all the luck. Those guys are icons and they did an amazing album (referring to the album that Motley Crue did with John Corabi.)" Check out the full interview here.

Singled Out: The Hickoids' The Working Man's Friend
Today Jeff Smith of the Hickoids tells us about the song "The Working Man's Friend" from their brand new album "Hairy Chafin' Ape Suit," which was released this week. Here is the story:

Sometime in the last half of the 1980's I was living with Hickoids bass player Richard "Dick" Hays and his wife in South Austin on El Paso Street. Dick was a super sweet guy, soft spoken and a great musician. He was also very stubborn and could be quite the ham.

We were perpetually broke. (We had another tune called "Wishin' For Chicken" about starting a fire in hopes that someone would bring by something to slap on the grill, but that's another story.) One of Dick's erstwhile occupations was flower delivery man which gave him a pretty good knowledge of the city streets and surrounding Hill Country area. He always had some commentary on the landmarks and routes along the way which he delivered with a great deal of authority in his voice.

So, maybe two miles away from our house there was a gas station called "The Working Man's Friend"…I think all they sold was gas and cigarettes, super no-frills. The gas was normally maybe a penny or two cheaper a gallon than everywhere else around. If memory serves gas was somewhere around a buck at this time. Dick insisted on buying gas there even though there were at least three or four stations nearer to us. Also because of our impoverished circumstances it was normally bought in increments of couch change or with pennies, maybe two or three bucks at a time, so the savings was highly negligible.

If this ritual wasn't maddening enough, Dick also insisted on taking what he referred to as a "shortcut" instead of going the direct route that only required one turn. It involved driving the opposite direction about a mile out of the way through multiple stop signs and stop lights.

Dick passed away in 2001. I still miss the sweet and stubborn man. I wish I could take that "shortcut" with him again.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album and find out where you can see the band live right here!

Green Day Pay Tribute to Joe Strummer On His Birthday
(hennemusic) Green Day paid tribute to the late Joe Strummer during their show Wednesday night in London on what would have been The Clash frontman's 61st birthday.

At the O2 Academy Brixton, Billie Joe Armstrong wished Strummer a happy birthday before Green Day tore into "Letterbomb" from the "American Idiot" album.

The Brixton show featured a full run-through of the band's 1994 smash, "Dookie", ahead of performances this weekend at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Check out video of the tribute here.

Katatonia Release 'The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here' Video
(Prog) Katatonia have released a lyric video for their new version of "The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here," featuring guest vocals by The Gathering's Silje Wergeland.

The track comes from upcoming album Dethroned And Uncrowned, which sees the band reinventing the material that appeared on acclaimed 2012 record Dead End Kings.

Guitarist Anders Nystrom says: "Think of the album like a person's face in the hands of a surgeon – their appearance is going to change, but it's still the same person behind that face.

"An important factor is that the surgeon himself is obviously Katatonia, not a stranger! If there's one album in our repertoire that's suited for a thing like this, it's Dead End Kings." Check out the video here.

Joanne Shaw Taylor Releases Track From Upcoming Release
(Classic Rock) Joanne Shaw Taylor has released "Diamonds In The Dirt" a track from her upcoming live album. It's taken from the CD/DVD set which forms part of Ruf Records' Songs From The Road series, and it's released on November 4 to tie in with her tour of England.

The show was recorded at the Borderline in London on May 12 this year, with only one chance to get it right due to her hectic schedule. But despite the stress Taylor says: "I'm really pleased with it – it's everything I wanted it to be.

"My fans have been asking me for a live album for a while now. I'm glad we waited, and didn't do it two years ago, because hopefully I've improved." Check out the song here.

Isolated Vocal Tracks From Pixies' 'Doolittle' Posted Online
(Radio.com) Ever wonder what classic Pixies songs would sound like if you just has Black Francis' vocals? Well, no, why would you wonder that? But hey, thanks to the SoundCloud account IsolatedVocals, you can hear two Pixies songs with isolated vocals anyway.

And it turns out, if you strip these Doolittle tracks of everything but vocals, Black sounds a bit like a mental patient. On "Debaser," he screams maniacally about being an un chien andalusia and it would be best not to question him. Though, there's no shame in giggling as he shouts "debaser" over and over.

And with "Hey," he sounds like one of those guys on the train who doesn't seem to realize how loud he's singing with his headphones on. The near minute of silence in which Black doesn't sing really helps justify the above description.

Today's Day in Rock

Carl Palmer Turned Down Black Sabbath
Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia legend Carl Palmer confirmed that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi approached him to play drums with the band on their reunion album "13."
Original Sabbath drummer Bill Ward isn't taking part in the reunion that features original frontman Ozzy Osbourne, Iommi and Geezer Butler, after he was unable to come to contractual terms with the band.

The band finally settled on former Audioslave drummer Brad Wilk to record the drums on the album. But it was previously disclosed that producer Rick Rubin wanted Cream's Ginger Baker, to play drums in the band but Iommi reportedly rejected the idea. We now learn that Iommi had another famed drummer in mind, Carl Palmer.

"Tony and I did talk when they were looking for drummers to make the album and he put me forward," Palmer told WENN. "I couldn't do it because I was off with Asia, we were touring and then something else came up. I couldn't have done it but I would have loved to. It just wasn't on the cards."

Palmer told the site that he is hoping to attend Black Sabbath's upcoming hometown show in Birmingham, England that will be taking place in December and he likes the idea of performing with a band like Sabbath.

He said, "I was classically trained but basically I'm a rock drummer and I've never been in a true out-and-out guitar band like Black Sabbath, where it's just big riffs – very simple but very dynamic… It would be extremely invigorating.

"The older I get the more I appreciate that music… I was late to come to heavy metal. Asia had a bit of that but we were a little bit more corporate rock and melodic."

Palmer also addressed the possibility of reuniting with Greg Lake and Keith Emerson in ELP. Read what he had to say about that here.

Motley Crue's Vince Neil Thwarted By Garbage Truck
(Gibson) Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil was set to perform in Beaumont, TX, on August 17, but the concert was thwarted by a garbage truck. Neil, along with Slaughter, and Great White were part of the bill at a charity event for Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

Apparently an accident involving a garbage truck on a nearby highway caused a massive power outage. The promotor of the event said that they chose to cancel the event, citing the safety of the fans as their top priority.

Although the event is supposed to be rescheduled, it seems finding a suitable date might prove difficult. In mid-September Vince Neil and Motley Crue kick off their second Las Vegas residency, named an Evening in Hell.

They will play a dozen shows at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino between September 18 and October 6. more on this story

KISS Coffeehouse Closing Down
The KISS Coffeehouse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina will soon be closing after a "steady decline" in business, the store's manager tells a local media outlet.

The KISS themed coffee shop opened with a massive KISS style promotion blitz seven years ago on Celebrity Circle in Myrtle Beach's Broadway at the Beach area.

The store's general manager Matthew Goldschmidt spoke with Myrtle Beach Online and explained, "It's not that we didn't do well," he said, "it was just a steady decline."

Goldschmidt didn't give the media outlet an exact date when the shop would be closing but did tell them that that everything in the store, including the KISS merch, is marked down to sell.

The official KISS Coffeehouse site only lists the Myrtle Beach location, though there were reports in 2011 that a new location was being planned in Las Vegas.

Nine Inch Nails Go Pop With New Single
(Radio.com) Trent Reznor is singing a song way off yonder in a major key, and that chorus is nothing if not a pop-punk chorus in the new Nine Inch Nails single 'Everything'.

The new single release follows up previous released singles "Copy Of A" and "Came Back Haunted" off the band's forthcoming album Hesitation Marks.

Hesitation Marks, out September 3 on Columbia, is the group's first new studio LP since their 2008 full-length, The Slip. The new album features four different versions of the cover art and sports guest spots from Lindsay Buckingham to King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew.

The bizarrely upbeat and spritely new tune 'Everything' was premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 program, and can be streamed here.

The Rides Release Full Album Stream
(Classic Rock) Classic Rock is proud to premiere Can't Get Enough, the debut album by blues-rock supergroup The Rides. The band consists of Stephen Stills, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Barry Goldberg, who have put together a 10-track record that aims, says guitarist Stills, to capture "the spirit of that simple, raw authentic 40s and 50s blues music the three of us love."

He and keyboardist both appeared on Al Kooper's 1969 album Super Session, although the didn't meet at the time. When they eventually got together in a studio, Goldberg says: "We connected on so many things, started jamming, and soon we'd begun our first song."

Shepherd says: "The Rides are a perfect mix of generations where three musicians who love and play the blues collide and create music that goes beyond our individual achievements." Check out the album here.

John Frusciante Explains Why He Left the Chili Peppers
(Gibson) Since officially leaving his gig as guitarist in Red Hot Chili Peppers back in December 2009, John Frusciante has kept a low profile. He released the album PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone last year without much promotion at all. Billboard recently got an interview with the reclusive musician, in which he talks about his upcoming EP Outsides as well as his work as producer for the hip-hop group Black Knights.

Frusciante also shed some light on why he decided to leave the Chili Peppers. John said he hadn't thought about quitting the band until Chili Peppers' bassist Flea told him that he wanted to take a two year break after the Stadium Arcadium tour.

"When he said it I was kind of shocked, 'cause I thought we were on a roll, let's just keep moving with this, you know? But once he said it to me, my mind started thinking, 'What would I do with that two years if I had two years to just do whatever I wanted?' And by about four months later I was so excited about quitting the band I didn't even want it to be a two-year thing anymore."

John says he has no plans to ever rejoining the band, let alone playing live: "I really don't think of myself as a performer anymore. It was never something that came naturally to me. It was something that I adapted to, but it was never really an expression of who I was."

Although his main focus today is working with beats and samples, John hasn't completely given up on the guitar. "Same," which is the first track on Outsides, is basically a ten-minute guitar solo.

Take a listen to "Same" here.

Last In Line's Plans Changed Because of Vivian Campbell's Cancer
(Classic Rock) Last In Line originally aimed to deliver many more shows than the low-key tour they've just completed but guitarist Vivian Campbell's cancer fight got in the way, says Vinny Appice.

The drummer reports he's amazed by his bandmate's energy – and as soon as he's fully recovered they'll be back to finish what they started. He tells Get Your Rock Out:

"We were going to play a bunch of festivals but Viv had to take care of himself. When he gets fully better we'll book more next year.

"He amazes me – I've played with guys going, 'I've got a cold, I can't go on…' But he's doing chemo, and he's rocking out. He's loaded with energy, and God bless him, it's great.

"He's still doing Def Leppard and I've got a bunch of other projects. We're just trying to get past these shows; but we've got to continue after that." more on this story

Kinks Frontman Ray Davies Releasing New Book
(Radio.com) Nearly 20 years after publishing his "unauthorized autobiography" X-Ray, former Kinks frontman Ray Davies is preparing to return to bookstores this October with Americana. According to the publisher's website, the book traces his complicated relationship with the United States.

"As a boy in post-War England, legendary Kinks' singer/songwriter Ray Davies fell in love with America—its movies and music, its culture of freedom, fed his imagination," the book's description reads.

"Then, as part of the British Invasion, he toured the US with the Kinks during one of the most tumultuous eras in recent history—until the Kinks group was banned from performing there from 1965-69."

According to Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton's Little John?: Music's Most Enduring Mysteries, Myths, and Rumors Revealed by Rolling Stone writer Gavin Edwards, the ban was prompted by a few incidents: "Ray Davies punched a union official who kept insinuating that England was already as good as Communist, and they appeared on a Dick Clark special for NBC without paying their mandatory dues to the American Federation of Television and Recording Artists… Years later, Davies mused, 'In many respects, that ridiculous ban took away the best years of the Kinks' career when the original band was performing at its peak.'"

Years later, in the late '70s and early '80s, the Kinks would have the greatest successes in the states with 1979′s Low Budget (featuring "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" and "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman)"), 1981′s Give The People What They Want ("Destroyer," "Better Things") and 1983′s State Of Confusion ("Come Dancing," "Don't Forget To Dance"), amid complaints from fans that they were catering their music towards American radio stations (and the American arena rock circuit).

The book culminates in the a "transformative event" read about that here.

Singled Out: Lonely H's Waiting On a Broken Heart
Today Mark Fredson from Lonely H tells us about the song "Waiting On a Broken Heart" from their new self-titled album. Here is the story:

My girlfriend and I had been together for about 6 months at the time and it was still real hard for me to get a read on her. One moment we were in love and the other I was scared she would drop me like a bad habit. I was literally "waiting in the living room" one night as she was changing her clothes when I started writing the song. I didn't have a guitar or a piano near so I just wrote first verse in my head.

For all I knew, this girl was gonna walk out of her bedroom all dolled up for a night on town and breakup with me. And the only thing I could do to calm my nerves was to put it to music. Note: not the best solution. I started musing upon all that we could become if she just stuck it out with me. It ended up getting a little pitiful. But hey, that's a big part of me.

We're still together (sometimes it's best to ignore your gut). She even sings on the song. And she wrote a response to my song for her own record called 'Waitin' which uses the same hook. And I sing on that version too. But hers came out before ours and that's when things start getting confusing. How's about that for a Fleetwood Mac-esque web of incestuous musical drama?

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album (click on the music tab to listen) right here!

Pink Floyd Darkside Radio Show Video Trailer Released
(Prog) Aardman Animations, makes of Wallace And Gromit, have launched a three-minute trailer for Sir Tom Stoppard's radio play Darkside, based on Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon.

The production will be broadcast on Radio 2 on August 26, marking the 40th anniversary of the iconic prog album. It stars Bill Nighy and Rufus Sewell, and is described as a "philosophical comedy".

Floyd guitarist David Gilmour recently said he found the script "fascinating," adding: "I can't wait to hear it come to life with the great cast performing it, and our music woven into it.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate The Dark Side Of The Moon's 40-year anniversary." Check out the trailer.

Ministry Release Permawar Video
(TeamRock Radio) Ministry have released a video for their track Permawar. It's taken from 13th studio album From Beer To Eternity – almost certain to be Al Jourgensen's last outing under the Ministry name.

He recently said: "We'll see if we ever do another Ministry gig again or not; I'm not saying yes or no yet. All I'm saying is I know there's no new Ministry studio CDs coming ever again. I promise."

He made the decision after the death of guitarist Mike Scaccia, whose last work appears on the record. "He was like my little brother, my best friend," Jourgensen reflects. "As long as he was there I knew things were going to be okay.

"I'm not going to go, 'He's dead, we can sell records,' like most people would do. That just doesn't interest me – and I have other projects going on." Check out the video here.

Fates Warning Premiere New Song Called 'Firefly'
(Classic Rock) Classic Rock is proud to premiere 'Firefly,' the brand-new track from Fates Warning. It's taken from upcoming album 'Darkness In A Different Light' – their first since 2004′s 'FWX'.

"Firefly is very personal to me in more ways than one," Vocalist Ray Alder tells Classic Rock. "After I'd written the melody I knew immediately what the title was going to be, as well as the subject. I'm pretty sure we've all felt this way at one time or another: that sometimes things just don't work out the way you think they would, but that's okay, it's part of life, and we move on.

"Ironically, I was outside the studio one night while recording it, and there they were – fireflies floating through the trees in the forest. I hadn't seen a single firefly for at least 15 years so I took it as a sign. A sign of what, I don't know; but very ironic nonetheless…" Check out the song here.

Charlatans' Jon Brookes Dead at 44
Jon Brookes, a founding member of the acclaimed British indie rock band The Charlatans, died in a hospital on Tuesday, according to the band. He was just 44 years old.
Brookes was diagnosed with a brain tumor after he collapsing onstage during a concert in Philadelphia in 2010. The band issued the following statement on their website on Tuesday: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Jon Brookes, the drummer with The Charlatans, died this morning aged 44.

"Following a seizure on tour in Philadelphia in 2010, Jon had been receiving treatment for a brain tumour and had undergone several operations, although he had been working on new material with the band over the summer. He passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning with his family at his bedside.

"Jon was a founding member of The Charlatans, who formed in the West Midlands in 1989. He was much loved by those who knew him and regarded as one of the finest drummers of his generation and will be dearly missed by all who knew him."

The statement included this tribute from his bandmates, "Jon was a brilliant drummer, an inspiration, a founding member of The Charlatans, part of our family and a friend to everyone in and around the band. Losing someone who was always so full of life is a tragedy that will be shared by so many. Our thoughts are with Debbie and all of Jon's family."

Metallica's James Hetfield Turned Down Sammy Hagar
Sammy Hagar revealed in a new interview that he originally wanted Metallica frontman James Hetfield to guest on his new song "Knockout Dragout," the first single from his forthcoming album 'Sammy Hagar and Friends', but Hetfield turned him down.

Kid Rock provided guest vocals on the track, but Hagar reveals to Rolling Stone that he also wanted Hetfield to lay down vocals for the chorus of the song.

He told the magazine, "I didn't really want to say this, but I'm completely honest: James Hetfield is a dear friend and we hang out in Hawaii a lot. Kid Rock did the duet on 'Knockdown Dragout,' which he recorded for me instantly. I would've just as soon had James Hetfield do it, but I ran into Kid, because I did that Detroit show with him, and we were communicating about other stuff and about his tour, so I just spontaneously asked him to sing on the track. And, boom, it got done. After he finished it, I thought that I would get James to sing just the 'Knockdown! Dragout!' part.

"I sent it to him and told him Kid Rock was on there and the whole thing, and he got back to me and said, quote-unquote, 'I'm completely flattered that you would want my sailor-assed voice on your record.' And then he said, ' . . . but it isn't my style.' And I said, 'It's OK. I still love you, James.'

"James has become just such a great frontman. He's really powerful, and he doesn't bullsh*t. He's not up there doing cheap sh*t to become a good frontman, like I do. I'll use a stupid line like, 'Are we having any fun yet?' just to get a reaction. And I know how to say something right before you end a song, so the band ends it and you get a big giant cheer because of something I said, and it sounds like they loved the song. I know all them little old veteran tricks. James doesn't even use that sh*t and he's still got charisma up the ass. He's really strong, man.

"I really wanted him on there, but it doesn't fit. I was cheating by sending him that song, because if he would've heard the whole album – if a Metallica fan would've heard this album and bought it because he was on there, they would be pissed off. This isn't a Metallica record, you know? But he's my friend, and I would've loved to have had him on it."

Avenged Sevenfold Plan Animated Series and Game Release
Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows revealed to fans that the band has been working on an animated series with Machinima and a related IOS and Android game while premiering the trailer for the "Hail To The King" animated series.

Here is what he had to say, "The reason I'm writing this is to shed some light on a few things we will be doing this fall besides touring and promoting 'Hail to the King.' First I would like to let you all know that for the past 18 months we have been writing and developing an IOS / Android based mobile Avenged Sevenfold game.

"Without revealing too much I will just say that it is an action adventure game. It has been written and developed by the band and with our friends in Subscience Studios. It's turning out awesome. We can't wait to show you more when it's ready.

"What we can show you though is a trailer for the new 'Hail to the King' animated series that we and our friends at Machinima have been working on. The game and the series will go hand in hand with each other. We hope you enjoy them both because I know we have had a great time developing them.

Mountain's Leslie West Releasing Another All-Star Solo Album
(Gibson) Leslie West, the legendary guitarist, vocalist and original founding member of Mountain, will release a new studio album "Still Climbing" on October 28th via Provogue Records / Mascot Label Group.

Since his historic performance with Mountain at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, West has enjoyed a glittering career spanning over half a century, accomplished in spite of a life threatening battle with diabetes, which cost him his right leg in 2011 (shortly before the release of his Unusual Suspects album).

"I'm lucky it wasn't one of my hands or I'd be screwed," said West. "It was a difficult struggle, and after the amputation I didn't know whether I'd ever want to or be able to perform again. A month later I played at the Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp in New York City, and I heard my guitar on stage and that was it. I knew I had to keep going."

Looked upon by West as a sequel to Unusual Suspects, which featured collaborations with the likes of Slash, Zakk Wylde, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonamassa and Billy Gibbons, "Still Climbing" sees West joining forces with Jonny Lang, Johnny Winter, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider and Alter Bridge and Creed's Mark Tremonti. more on this story

(Radio.com) The reissue of Nirvana's 1993 album, In Utero, includes three discs and 70 songs that range from live cuts, unreleased demos, B-sides, and the newly discovered instrumental track "Forgotten Tune."

According to Rolling Stone, the 20th anniversary deluxe edition, out September 24, features two versions of In Utero–the original remastered LP along with the newly remixed version of the album. The original Steve Albini-produced album will feature not only the original Scott Litt's mixes of "Heart Shaped Box" and "All Apologies," which appeared on the album's final version. Instead, Albini's brasher versions, which have been bootlegged over the years, will be on the album; they have never been released legally until now.

Disc one will also feature B-sides and non-album tracks like "Marigold," "Moist Vagina," "Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through the Strip," The Beavis and Butt-head Experience's "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" and the No Alternative hidden track "Sappy," along with Litt's remixed single version of "Pennyroyal Tea."

The never-before-heard "Forgotten Tune" is featured on disc two. The recently discovered track, which was recorded during an In Utero-era rehearsal, adds a little something new for all those fans out there who thought they had heard everything the band has to offer.

Eight out of the 12 tracks on the second disc are demos including "Jam," a jam session from October 25, 1992 at Seattle's Word of Mouth Production that feature very early iterations of "Tourette's," "Pennyroyal Tea," and "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter." All three of the demos for these songs are also included on the disc, along with Dave Grohl's 1990 recording of "Marigold," which was the drummer's first ever solo recording. Korn Release Never Never Lyric Video But Former Member Won't Listen

It's the band's first record to feature Brian 'Head' Welch since his departure in 2005 – and while he's now comfortably back in the fold, former drummer David Silveria isn't interested in even hearing what his former colleagues are doing.

Silveria, who left in 2006, has told fans via his Facebook page: "No, I have not heard a new Korn song. All I can say is I'm sure it's not funky or groovy like the original Korn. I don't even need to hear it to know that." Check out the lyric video

He says of the lyrics: "Avakus' mind has been awakened and inspired by his voyage to Psykerion, and he gets philosophical about what makes humans tick, from instinct to ego to the drive to succeed." Check out the song here.

Asking Alexandria Tour Bus Tour Video Goes Online
(Banana 101.5) Asking Alexandria not only rocked a bunch of faces off at Dirt Fest 2013, but they also were kind enough to give Banana 101.5 a guided journey through their home away from home: their tour bus.

Asking Alexandria is riding high on the success of their just-released album 'From Death to Destiny,' which is set to become the band's second consecutive album to debut in the top 10 on the Billboard 200.

Their current single 'The Death of Me' is the climbing the radio charts and the native Englanders have been rocking the festival circuit in the States.

Despite all of that, the guys were kind enough to give Banana 101.5 a walk through their understandably cluttered tour bus. Check out the video of the tour here.

"VIVA! HYSTERIA" CD/DVD, BLU-RAY, DVD AND DIGITAL OUT ON FRONTIERS RECORDS IN OCTOBER:

With 100 million records sold worldwide, Def Leppard continues to be one of the most potent forces in global rock. For the past 30 years the band has been a top box-office draw, consistently selling out arenas worldwide. October 19 sees them issue in Europe (October 21 in UK and 22 in North America) an exciting new live release, VIVA! Hysteria, across multiple formats through Frontiers Records. Originally released on the 3rd of August 1987, the "Hysteria" album took the already well established Def Leppard and catapulted the band into the stratosphere.
The statistics are astounding: the album has sold in excess of 25 million copies and counting. Due to the incredible success of previous album "Pyromania" (released in 1983) and "Hysteria", Def Leppard are one of only five groups who can claim two separate original 10 million plus selling albums in the US. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen.
The "Hysteria" album also spawned 7 hit singles! Enormous hits such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Armageddon It" and "Rocket" are hugely influential rock staples that still enjoy huge popularity today and have helped make Def Leppard Britain's greatest ever arena rock band.

Produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 chart in the U.S. and also No. 1 on the U.K. Album chart. The album has earned critical acclaim from a number of sources including Q Magazine, who voted the release as one of the greatest albums of all time, and Rolling Stone Magazine, who included the collection on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

For the first time ever, Def Leppard played Hysteria in its entirety during an eleven-show residency which started on March 22, 2013 at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas. The band played also under the fictitious name of DED FLATBIRD (which came about after someone once mispronounced Def Leppard as "Dead Flat Bird"). Two different opening sets of 35 mins. on each of the nights. The band showcased some fan favourites and very rare songs from the early years of the band besides playing a selection of their greatest hits, highlighting classic material from throughout their career. The "VIVA! Hysteria" show featured an elaborate set design created uniquely for the Las Vegas residency.
"We've been asked for many years if we'd ever play an album in its entirety, and the answer was always no because we'd be out promoting a new album," says lead vocalist Joe Elliott. "Then in March and April 2013 when we had no new music to promote, we had a chance to revisit arguably our most important album. It was an easy decision to make. As for Vegas, it's no longer perceived as the place crooners go to die! Artists like Motley Crue, Elton John, Guns N Roses & Cheap Trick have recently done residencies and Rock 'n Roll has definitely moved in! So, there was no better place for us to take the show. It was a fantastic experience for us and for our fans."

Known for legendary arena shows, Def Leppard bring their extravagant production to your house as "VIVA! Hysteria" is their first full live show shot in HD released commercially. Finally "VIVA! Hysteria" showcases for the first time a career-defining album (excluding concept albums) performed live in its entirety - from start to finish - for a commercial audio/video release. "VIVA! Hysteria"! is unlike any show Def Leppard has ever done or will ever do again. This is one release not to miss….
