A lot of the tracks are quite varied and not necessarily in a style you'd recognise as mine. I didn't want it to all sound the same. I really enjoyed making this album. It's always great to get a chance to get into the studio with a bunch of new songs and I was lucky to work with some very cool producers. We had a lot of fun."

McCartney also explained why he worked on the album with producers Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Giles Martin. "The original idea was to go to a couple of producers whose work I loved, to see who I got on with best - but it turned out I got on with all of them! We made something really different with each producer, so I couldn't choose and ended up working with all four. We just had a good time in different ways."

The album was recorded at Henson Recording Studios, Los Angeles; Avatar Studios, New York; Abbey Road Studios, London; Air Studios, London; Wolf Tone Studios, London and Hog Hill Mill, East Sussex. - more on this story

The Cult Frontman Wants Every Show To Be Unique
(Classic Rock) The Cult frontman Ian Astbury says he wouldn't want to perform the band's songs exactly as they appear on record, even if they could. Instead, he insists their performances are all about creating a one-off experience. And those fans who'd rather not share that would be better off not attending.

Discussing the chance of fans hearing songs precisely as they were laid down in the studio, Astbury says: "I doubt that will ever happen – all the ad libs were spontaneous in the recordings."

"We are not that kind of band who strive for note perfection – we go for feeling," He continues. "We thrive in the chaos, beauty and disorder of the moment. We are not machines; that's not why we started performing. Sometimes we can be crass, base and vulgar. Other moments can be beatific and transcendent.

"So if you're coming expecting to hear a note-for-note rendition of a recording, save your money, stay at home and listen to the albums." - more on this story

Robbie Robertson Looks Back At The Band
(Radio.com) "I hoped when we were making music originally, that we would have a timeless quality to what we were doing." Robbie Robertson is talking to Radio.com about the work he did as a member of The Band.

Robertson left the group in 1977, leading to their eventual demise (although they reunited without him for a few years in the '80s and '90s). But they were timeless. In 2013, their influence is a strong as ever, and arguably stronger than it's been in decades.

They have had a profound impact on some of the most relevant bands of today, including Wilco, Ray LaMontagne and a little combo called Mumford & Sons. In fact, Mumford & Sons and Jim James of My Morning Jacket contribute to the liner notes of brand new Band 4 CD/1 DVD box set, Live At The Academy Of Music 1971, produced by Robertson.

Levon Helm (drums/vocals/mandolin), Rick Danko (bass, vocals, fiddle) and Richard Manuel (keyboards, vocals, drums) have all passed away. Only Garth Hudson (organ/horns) and Robertson, the band's guitarist, survive, who says that the process of listening to the tapes for this box set was a bittersweet experience.

"There's all kinds of different emotions." Robertson tells Radio.com. "I go from a place of being very proud, and really enjoying the extraordinary talent of my bandmates to some real sadness as well. It's only Garth and I left. I can't help but to veer between these two places."

The performances on the new box set were originally used on the 1972 live Band album Rock Of Ages, but Robertson felt the need to return to the performance tapes and offer them in a new (and remixed) context. "I have to say, it has been such a joy being able to revisit this thing, expand upon it, because I've been living with this all these years. I never felt satisfied with what I had done: it was my responsibility to mix this back in the day."

The performances feature the Band joined by a horn section, with the arrangements by Allen Toussaint. Bob Dylan also joined the Band for an encore at one of the shows collected in the box. He mentions a few of his favorite moments on the box set: "I thought Richard did a great job – everybody did – on 'The Shape I'm In.' I thought it was really good, the way we played it that night. On 'Caledonia Mission,' I thought Rick sang it that night as good as I ever heard him sing it. There was something really touching about this particular version of 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.' It's different form other times that we did it. It's hauntingly sad and beautiful." - More.

He tells UCR: "I decided to get back to make a record that would sound more like the late 70s, early 80s Starship, as opposed to the late 80s Starship. In other words, a more organic, true classic rock'n'roll sound."

Haken Turned Into Puppets For Cockroach King Video
(Prog) Haken have transformed themselves into puppets for their latest video "Cockroach King". The band decided to take an unusual approach to the promo for the track taken from latest album The Mountain.

"Cockroach King is definitely the most classic prog sounding song from the record," Haken explain. "We allowed our eccentric side to come to the fore and wrote a song in the tradition of some of our favourite English 70s bands like Queen and the Specials. It's obviously a huge tip of the hat to Gentle Giant too.

They add, "Jens Bogren did an amazing job with the mix. It's a blend of old traditions and modern sounds that we jokingly refer to as 'Djentle Djiant'."

Discussing the video, they say: "It's a tribute to a more innocent time before our TVs were dominated by computer animation and hi-definition – a time when things were hand-made, wholesome and fun for the whole family!" - Watch the video here.

Nikki Sixx and Sebastian Bach War of Words Intensifies
(hennemusic) The war of words over Sebastian Bach's audition for Motley Crue following Vince Neil's departure in 1992 continues with bassist Nikki Sixx questioning the singer's motives via Twitter and Bach firing back with Sixx's own words from an interview.

"Someone needs attention to try and sell some books," tweeted Sixx on Friday. He then took a jab at Bach with "I always liked the term 'Washed Up'."

While Nikki Sixx continues to deny Sebastian Bach's recent claim that the band asked him to join Motley Crue, Bach has responded by posting a link to a 1994 MTV interview with Sixx where the bassist confirms the group did rehearse with the singer.

"Here is a fascinating interview with @nikkisixx where he describes the band Motley Crue Rehearsing with Sebastian Bach," posted the singer, adding, "ABSOLUTLEY TRUE. @nikkisixx tells it like it is! Sebastian Bach Book on Book Shelves Soon... #ForTheWin #NoBullsh*t #Oops #YouCantMakeThisStuffUp #IAintMadAtYa #NotLying #ItsOK #SomeoneOwesSomeoneAnApology #ThanksForTheHype #IRememberYou"."

In the 1994 interview with Riki Rachtman of MTV's "Headbanger's Ball", Sixx explained the band's need to carry on following the 1992 split with Vince Neil.

"We said we owed it to ourselves to at least see what it felt like [to have a different singer]," said Sixx. "At times when Vince was out of town or off doing whatever he was into doing, Sebastian Bach would come down and hang out with us. And we'd be rehearsing. We need a singer to rehearse. So he'd sing. Steve Perry from Journey came down one time just to hang out and meet everybody. And he was singing. So we kind of had a feeling what it would be like to have a different singer. And we said, the least we could do is try it on for size before we, you know, end it. And we met John [Corabi] and it was magic." - A lot more including the video interview.

Clutch Postpone Tour So Frontman Can Have Spinal Surgery
(Classic Rock) Clutch have been forced to cancel a series of US shows after frontman Neil Fallon was told a recurring back problem meant he needed surgery. The band have rescheduled most of their September dates in January, with one in October and one called off altogether.

Fallon had this message for fans with details: "I've learned that a childhood injury to the neck, a genetic predisposition for spinal disease, and 20 some years of head banging will exact a toll. I've been diagnosed with an ugly case of cervical spinal stenosis and two herniated discs.

"In some instances these conditions can be treated non-surgically. This is not the case for me. I have been advised by several neurosurgeons that my spinal cord has already been damaged and that I risk further damage were I not to address the situation. For this reason, I've decided to take care of this ASAP. Believe me, re scheduling a tour turns my stomach, but I believe this is the wisest choice given the prognosis.

"On Tuesday I will undergo surgery. The procedure will fuse three vertebrae together with a small titanium plate. I have faith that this surgery will go as well as it can, and that I will be back in the saddle for our October-November tour." - more on this story

Nicko McBrain Loves The Idea of An Iron Maiden Festival Tour
(TeamRock Radio) Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain admit's he'd love to see his band to staging their own festival. If they did, they'd follow in the footsteps of outfits like Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Jane's Addiction and Fairport Convention, among many others.

And it would certainly avoid a repeat of Maiden's difficult experiences during 2005's Ozzfest US tour, where they were pelted with eggs and had their sound switched off as a result of disagreements with Sharon Osbourne.

McBrain says about the idea of the veteran metal band launching their own fest: "You never know – you just never know in this game. I think it would be great to do a Maiden fest." - more on this story

KISS Star Gene Simmons Defends Tim Tebow
(Radio.com) Has polarizing football player Tim Tebow gotten a raw deal in the press because of his religious beliefs? And would he be treated more respectfully if he were not Christian, and specifically, Muslim? Gene Simmons thinks so.

"He's got a religious passion, as well he should, we're in America," the KISS frontman told Radio.com earlier this week. "He's proud to be a Christian, what's wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn't dare say anything [editor's note: only Muslim women wear burqas]. But if you're a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy's got family values. I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who's alleged to have killed, committed murder. That's 'cool.' But a guy who's religious and has got family values isn't 'cool?' He's cool to me."

As has been widely reported, Simmons and his KISS bandmate Paul Stanley are now co-owners of a new Arena Football League team, to be called LA KISS. And Simmons wasted no time drawing attention to the expansion team (which will begin playing in 2014), extending a very public offer to quarterback Tim Tebow, who after a brief up-and-down career in the NFL, was released by the New England Patriots a few weeks ago.

In an interview focusing on the new oral history of KISS, Nothing To Lose (more on that to come), Simmons addressed the situation with the man who he hopes will be the KISS QB.

"We haven't heard back from Tim," Simmons said. "He's considering this seriously; he's in Los Angeles. Right after this, I'm gonna fly back with our guys and try to sit down with him and tell him that we're serious about this. He'll get the respect here that he didn't get at the NFL."

Simmons may relate to Tebow on that level: he has always taken issue with the music media (notably Rolling Stone) for not treating KISS seriously, which he addresses in Nothing To Lose. But the treatment that he feels Tebow has received makes him particularly incensed: "They're a**holes. And they should be called to task, and they should lose their license, because in a very real way, as far as I'm concerned, it's slander and defamation. You're making fun of somebody's religion."

"I think religion is good for mankind. Without the Ten Commandments," he pauses to note, "Jews gave you that," and continues, "Without that, there'd be chaos. Somebody had to say, 'Here are some good ideas: don't steal, and don't kill.' Those are good ideas. That's called 'civilization.' There was once a time where those things weren't written down. You had chaos! We still have chaos, but there's a reference point. But those are good ideas. Honor thy father and thy mother. That's a good idea!"

Though Simmons is clearly Team Tebow in this specific arena, he fact that he's looking to be in business with the former star quaterback is something of a surprising development. Despite the fact that KISS performed at the 1999 Super Bowl, Simmons has never been a big football fan. He admits, "I like the passion and the athleticism, but visually, it's never done anything for me because everybody dresses alike." The lifelong comic book fan continues: "If I was doing a football team, you'd make it more like the X-Men, one guy has a visor, one guy's dressed like a beast."

Given that he and KISS tend to make their own rules, is there any chance that players on the LA KISS team may sport slight variations in all of their jerseys? - Find out here.

Stone Temple Pilots Explain Hiring Chester Bennington
(Gibson) The subject of Stone Temple Pilots replacing longtime frontman Scott Weiland with Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington is a heated one. Some fans think the move completely wrong, while others are embracing Bennington in his new role.

No matter how you feel about Bennington fronting Stone Temple Pilots, bass player Robert DeLeo says he believes Bennington is a perfect fit, because the Linkin Park singer is a longtime fan of the band's grungy tunes.

"He's made it clear that he grew up on our music," DeLeo explained to the Star-Ledger . "But the thing that sold me was that he told us that the only way he'd ever want to do this is if we honor the past and move forward in a creative direction. That's what we wanted, too."

DeLeo says he and the guys of Stone Temple Pilots have nothing but good feelings towards Weiland. "We had a lot of great years with Scott, and we made amazing music together," he said. "But somewhere along the line, the vision was lost. We wish Scott the best." - more on this story

Green Day Learned From Singer's Meltdown
(TeamRock Radio) Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt says the band have learned to take breaks as a result of their frontman Billy Joe Armstrong's onstage meltdown last year.

He disintegrated in rage during a festival set in September 2012, shouting at organisers, smashing his guitar and throwing his mic away. Days later the band announced he'd gone to rehab suffering from addiction issues, and added it was partly to do with their hectic work schedule.

Now Dirnt reflects that the incident was 20 years in the making. He tells The Age: "We hadn't taken a vacation, hadn't looked up, hadn't done anything that wasn't writing music and touring. When you're working that hard there's a lot of downtime on the road. You can drink too much or get into sleeping pills or whatever." - more on this story

An 88th Birthday Tribute To B.B. King
(Gibson) For B.B. King the thrill is far from gone. Today, September 16, Lucille's pappy and the most influential figure in electric blues will celebrate his 88th birthday during a rare gap in touring, which he'll start up again on October 4 with a concert in Prior Lake, Minnesota. At this point King is, for many people, the living definition of blues, and he's certainly a walking encyclopedia of licks and lore going way back to his days as a poor orphan on a Mississippi farm in the 1930s.

In recent decades King's albums have been starry affairs like the platinum-selling, Grammy winning collaboration with Eric Clapton Riding With the King, 2005's birthday blues party with Billy Gibbons, Clapton, Bobby Bland, John Mayer, Roger Daltrey and Gloria Estefan called B.B King and Friends: 80, and the deeply rooted One Kind Favor, made with celebrity producer T-Bone Burnett.

Most listeners associate King with his 1970 break-though hit "The Thrill Is Gone," but King has been making recordings since 1949 and developed most of his repertoire, vocal phrasing and licks in the first 15 years of his career.

He's a look at 10 early King recordings that were signposts of his development during those formative years. • "Miss Martha King": B.B.'s first single was an ode to his wife, relying more on his soaring vocals than his stinging, vibrato drenched licks. It was cut in 1949 at Memphis radio station WDIA, where King was also a DJ. Publicity photos from this period show King embracing a single coil guitar, so he'd yet to discover his patented rich, ringing Gibson tone as well.

• "Three O'Clock Blues": King's first hit was cut at the Memphis WMCA and released in 1950. It represents a major leap for King. The song, while strictly adhering to a 12 bar form, shows terrific development in his playing under the influence of T-Bone Walker. King was transitioning to hollow body guitars at this point, and would soon be famously photographed onstage in a suit with short pants brandishing a Gibson Switchmaster. His solo on "Three O'Clock Blues" is terrific, blending staccato and fluid licks with a biting tone that captures the want in the line, "Please forgive me for all my sins." - more.

Roger Waters Admits His Battle With Pink Floyd Was Wrong
Roger Waters reveals in a candid interview that will be broadcast today in the UK that he regrets launching a legal battle with his former Pink Floyd bandmates.
Waters was asked by the interviewer Stephen Sackur if he felt it was wrong for Pink Floyd to carry on using the band's name after he left the group he responded, "I did, I did think that was wrong, and I was wrong!... Of course I was.

"Who cares? It was a commercial decision and in fact it's one of the few times that the legal profession has taught me something. Because when I went to these chaps and said 'listen we're broke, this isn't Pink Floyd anymore', they went 'what do you mean? That's irrelevant, it is a label and it has commercial value, you can't say it's going to cease to exist, you obviously haven't looked back to Runnymede, you obviously don't understand English jurisprudence...It's not about what you think, it's about...it's what it is'....The law is everything what we have, that's what the Wall is about."

He also revealed that he is planning to make a new studio album and how going solo has allowed him more freedom to create the music that he wants to.

"It was the correct thing for us to split up, or for me to leave if you like, so I could express my ideas unfettered. And my ideas are still... You know I've had a few breakthroughs recently which I won't talk about, but I am going to make another record. I've had a very very strong idea, and I shall pursue it, and I will make at least one more record and I am really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it."

Fans in the UK can tune in today (September 19th) to listen to the full interview where he discusses other controversial topics. The show airs on BBC World News at 0330, 0830, 1430 and 2030 GMT and on BBC Two at 1035am.

Pearl Jam Reveal New Song 'Sirens'
(Radio.com) With Pearl Jam fans gearing up for the release of the band's tenth studio album, Lightning Bolt, on October 15, the Seattle band has unveiled "Sirens," the second song to be previewed from the 12-song set.

The moody, mid-tempo song rides an acoustic guitar groove, a much mellower look in contrast to the new album's explosive first single, "Mind Your Matters."

"Sirens" is powered by a particularly strong vocal performance from frontman Eddie Vedder, as the country-tinged song builds to an epic, emotive crescendo, reminiscent of the band's mid-'90s albums like Vs. and Vitalogy.

Pearl Jam is set to support the new album with an extensive U.S. tour, which kicks off with a sold-out show in Pittsburgh on October 10. The band will also be among the headliners of this year's Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans on November 1. The tour's second leg starts in Dallas on November 15 and wraps with a homecoming show in Seattle on December 6. Check out the song here.

Tim Lambesis Faced Damning Testimony In Murder For Hire Pre-Trial
(Radio.com) Tim Lambesis, singer of Christian metal band As I Lay Dying was ordered Monday to stand trial for solicitation to commit murder. Dressed neatly in black shirt and tie with hair pulled back, the 32-year-old faced accusers Monday (September 16) for charges that he solicited an undercover police officer to kill his estranged wife.

After a preliminary hearing, San Diego Superior Court Judge Robert Kearney ruled there was indeed enough evidence for Lambesis to stand trial. Damning testimony came from multiple sources including a personal trainer who Lambesis first approached to carry out his plan.

According toCBS 8 , San Diego County Sheriff's Detective John Buckley testified he met with a personal trainer who told him that Lambesis had asked him to kill his wife and mother of three adopted children, Meggan Lambesis. The trainer explained that after turning down Lambesis' first request to assist with his plan; he reached out to police because "he didn't want to see an innocent person get murdered."

The trainer then worked with police to set up a sting operation with a fake hitman known as Red. As noted by San Diego's Reader's Eva Knott, Red appeared a convincing hitman, weathered and rugged, pierced ears and a long reddish beard that wagged when he talked.

At this meeting, Lambesis handed Red $100 in cash, photos of his wife and her address. The undercover officer testified Lambesis "wanted his wife gone." The would-be hitman told Lambesis the job would cost $20,000. The meeting ended with Lambesis adding, "Just to clarify, I do want her dead." more on this story

Their debut album First Strike followed three years later and their most recent was 2010′s live offering The Final Concert, marking their reunion following a split in the 1980s. more on this story

30th Anniversary of KISS Taking Off Their Makeup
(Radio.com) It was thirty years ago this week (September 13, 1983) that a nation of suburban teens and early twenty-somethings had their young minds blown by the rock and roll equivalent of the curtain being pulled on the Wizard of Oz.

On that day, KISS – which was then comprised of perennials Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, along with their late drummer Eric Carr and one-time guitarist Vinnie Vincent – showed up on MTV, and revealed their true, makeup-less faces.

Whether or not you enjoy the group's music, their makeup was a masterstroke of marketing. Besides helping them to stand out among the hard rock pack, it gave them a visual appeal that arguably no rockers commanded as well since the Beatles. It also helped the band sell action figures, pinball machines, comic books, and added a level of mystique to the group that few rock bands ever had. Remember, this was the pre-Photoshop era, so, most fans didn't know what these guys actually looked like, and didn't have computer programs to help them to figure it out.

Gene Simmons recently stopped by Radio.com to promote Nothin' To Lose: The Making Of KISS 1972-1975, but was glad to discuss the seminal decision to unmask, ironically three years after their 1980 album, Unmasked.

"The tour for Creatures Of The Night [the band's final album in makeup] did not go well in America," he recalled. "And yet, at the same time we were playing stadiums in South America. We played Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the largest stadium to date that we've played in forty years," noting that the band still had very strong appeal overseas, even as their popularity dwindled in the States.

"So when we came back home, we had a choice to make: 'Hey, what are we gonna do now?' And it was Paul who said, 'Let's take the makeup off.' And I said, 'No! You can't do that.'"

"[Paul's response was] 'Well, let's prove to people that we're a band without makeup,'" He knew — the true fans knew — the songs could hold up outside of the context that the band were known for. Simmons' response: "'Why? We proved to people that we're a band with makeup, that's what makes us different.' I couldn't imagine us without makeup. "

Simmons has always been the main marketing arm of KISS, and he was the one who grew up reading comic books, so of course he was the member most invested in the makeup. They agreed to take one tentative step towards the "big reveal" to see how it went. "We settled on the idea of doing one photo session to see what we look like without makeup. We took lots of photos. It didn't seem like there was a connection to KISS. Finally, one of the photos that we settled on, happened to be one where my arms were crossed, and my tongue was hanging out. And that seemed to be the connection with the soul of the band." That photo would end up being the cover to their next album, Lick It Up.

The title track of that album went on to be a fan favorite, and one of the few from the "unmasked" era to regularly make the set lists in the years since they've put their makeup back on. And in the video, if Gene looked a little unsure of what his new persona would be, Paul looked like he was bursting out of his war-paint-less skin, showing off his true face – and his dance moves – for the world to see.

Unfortunately, the rest of the album hasn't quite stood the test of time. The album's second single, "All Hell's Breaking Loose," found Paul faux-rapping. This was 1983, and hip-hop was still in its early era; if you weren't part of the scene, you might mistakenly think that anyone could be an MC. Paul proved them wrong in just one verse: "Street hustler comes up to me one day/ And I'm walkin' down the street, mindin' my own business/ Now he looks me up and he looks me down and says/ 'Hey man, what be this and what be that and why you gotta look like that?'"

Paul's response? "I kinda laughed, I said 'Hey man, I am cool, I am the breeze!'"

But you can't argue with numbers (especially if you're in a band with Gene Simmons), and the fans voted with their wallets. "Lick It Up sold about three times as many copies as Creatures Of The Night," which Simmons notes is one of his personal favorite albums in the KISS cannon. "And then the record after that, (1984′s) Animalize, sold twice as much as Lick It Up. We were back in 'platinum land,' selling out arenas, without makeup, for over ten years." More including the video of their unmasking.

Roger Daltrey To Guest on Wilko Johnson's Farewell Album
(Classic Rock) Wilko Johnson has recruited Roger Daltrey to appear on his farewell album after the pair met at an awards ceremony earlier this month. The terminally-ill guitarist refused chemotherapy in January after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and instead he's aiming to fill his final months with as much music as possible.

He's already delivered a series of festival shows after having completed what was to be his farewell tour. He made the decision after finding he felt much more healthy than doctors had predicted he would.

Johnson, 66, tells the Mirror: "They did tell me in January I'd be dead in October – but I may last into next year. I hope we'll have something done before I go.

"There are a few more things I want to record. I wrote some songs right after getting this diagnosis. It won't be morbid, though: I can't have any truck with that." more on this story

Previously Unreleased Live Nirvana Footage Released
(Radio.com) Last Friday marked the 20th anniversary of In Utero, the final full-length album from Nirvana. For its own commemoration of the classic record, MTV/VH1 are releasing a series of rare live performance videos of the grunge legends' Live & Loud concert in the band's home base of Seattle from December 1993 that aired on MTV on New Year's Eve that month.

MTV/VH1 plan to release a total of four different sets from the performance, beginning yesterday (Sept. 18) with a rendition of "Heart-Shaped Box," the lead single from In Utero.

Amid a teeming sea of concertgoers that includes the occasional crowd surfer, Nirvana sounds as on-point as the band ever did, assisted by second guitarist Pat Smear filling out the song's crunching guitar on the chorus and backing vocals.

The release of the "Heart-Shaped Box" video precedes Thursday's release of a video for "Rape Me," before a dual set on Monday (Sept. 23) of rehearsal performances of "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" and "Very Ape," which includes frontman Kurt Cobain on drums.

The footage is included in the Nirvana: Live & Loud DVD, which is scheduled for a Sept. 24 release. The concert itself occurred Dec. 13, 1993, at Seattle's Pier 48, not even a month after the band's storied MTV Unplugged taping. Watch the live video here.

How Zakk Wylde's String Dreams Turned In A Farce
(TeamRock Radio) Zakk Wylde has recalled how hiring a string section to appear on Black Label Society's new album dissolved into a farce. They managed to make things work, and the results can be heard on Unblackened, a record consisting of live alternate takes on BLS classics, which is released on September 23.

Wylde decided to bring in four classically-trained musicians for a version of Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. He tells Billboard: "That was an adventure – we had these four guys come down. Union guys, right? They play two hours to the dot, take a break and stay for one more hour.

"We put the sheet music in front of them and we start playing. It was right up there as far as disasters go with the Hinbenburg, the Titanic – f**king Michael Dukakis running for president. We were laughing our balls off!

"They were like, 'We can stay an extra hour,' and I go, 'Are you out of your f**king minds? You're going to have to stay for an extra two months!' More from Zakk

[He posted a link to a] classical version of 'Blessed Be' from our second album Clandestine performed by the Nordic Chamber Orchestra at Tonhallen in Sundsvall, Sweden, 12 April 2013.

February 1st, 2014 we will do it again at Gävle Konserthus, Sweden, with Gävle Symphonic (65 piece) Orchestra, 40 piece a choir and and last but not least original members Uffe Cederlund and Nicke Andersson.

We will be performing Clandestine as arranged by Thomas Von Wachenfeldt and it will be the first time in 17 years that me, Uffe (Cederlund) and Nicke (Andersson) play together again as Entombed.

We are all very excited to start working on this project and look forward to see where it'll take us!" Check out the Pledge Music page here.

Eddie Vedder and Neil Finn Team Up For Hunters & Collectors Cover
A stream of Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Crowded House and Split Enz singer Neil Finn's cover version of Hunters & Collectors' "Throw Your Arms Around Me" has been posted online.

The track is the second song released from the forthcoming 'Crucible - The Songs of Hunters & Collectors' album which was curated by fan, critic, and A&R executive John O'Donnell.

Both Vedder and Finn have performed "Throw Your Arms Around Me" live in concert in the past and teamed up for a "stripped back" version of the track in tribute to the legendary Australian group. Check it out here.

"Crucible - The Songs Of Hunters & Collectors" will feature 30 tracks in full, including 15 tributes and 15 original recordings and will be released on September 27th by Liberation Music in Australia.

Curator O'Donnel had this to say, "It has been an exhilarating journey of reinvention and rediscovery," says O'Donnell, "as a wildly diverse range of artists have stepped forward with passion and creative zeal to record interpretations of fourteen equally diverse Hunters songs. From the more obscure corners of the band's catalogue such as 'Alligator Engine', 'The Slab (Betty's Worry)', 'Dog' through to the classics like 'Throw Your Arms Around Me', 'Holy Grail' and 'When the River Runs Dry', established artists like Eddie Vedder & Neil Finn, Paul Kelly, The Living End and Something For Kate have paid respect while newer acts like The Rubens, Alpine, Matt Corby and Abbe May have gone digging for their own truths in these amazing songs."

Hunters & Collectors' Mark Seymour adds. "I have to say, it is deeply rewarding for me as a writer to know that beyond the years and all the hard work that was done in the crucible of the Australian suburbs, the songs of Hunters & Collectors have reached the cream of Australia's talent, great singers and bands young and older... who have stepped up to record the best of what we delivered in those pubs so many years ago. I am honoured by the respect they have shown. Songs are what we share, and sharing itself is crucial to our identity as a people" more on this story

Metallica Want To Tour With Through The Never Stage
(TeamRock Radio) Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo says that the band want to tour using the stage set that appears on their upcoming 3D movie Through The Never.

It's described as the biggest indoor production of all time, and requires 40 trucks to transport it – but Trujillo wants to see those vehicles on the road after the band have recorded their new album next year.

"Well, that's the plan. I don't think you build something that incredible and not share it with the world," He reports. "We're just trying to get through this phase of the journey and release this beast to the world. After that we'll see where the adventure takes us.

"We do have this stage – we should put it to use."

Meanwhile, frontman James Hetfield has looked back on the band's legal war against filesharing site Napster. Read about that here.

Alex Lifeson Explains Why Rush Remixed 'Vapor Trails'
(Classic Rock) Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has explained why the band's 2002 album Vapor Trails is being reissued in a remixed form – and why, 11 years on, drummer Neil Peart still can't bear to listen to the record.

Vapor Trails was always a problematic album for Rush. It marked a comeback for the band, and for Peart in particular. It was the first album they had made together since the double tragedy that Peart suffered in the late 90s – his 19-year-old daughter Selena killed in a car crash, and his wife Jacqueline succumbing to cancer.

In the aftermath, Peart told Lifeson and bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee that he was retired. He didn't play drums for three years. But when he agreed to rejoin the band, they spent 15 months working on Vapor Trails, and the result was an album described by Lifeson as "filled with raw emotion". In his lyrics, Peart wrote about the pain he had experienced. And the music had a similarly heavy vibe. "We wanted it to be hard-hitting," Geddy Lee said.

But over time, both Lee and Lifeson have felt that Vapor Trails didn't sound right. "It really bothered us that it didn't sound like it did when we were making it," Lifeson says. "Now we've remixed it, it's the way it should always have been. But Neil still won't listen to the record."

In a new interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Lifeson was asked "You say that the sound of the finished album 'bothered' you and Geddy. What exactly was wrong?" and he responded, "The original mastering was the problem. It was poorly done. At the time we should have remastered. It bothered us forever – particularly Geddy, who had the task of remastering of the original album and feels responsible for it. It irked him for many years.

"The original version is hard on your ears, because the mastering was pushed so hard, there's distortion and so much compression – I found it very difficult to listen to it.

Lifeson was then asked "then why go back and remix it – why rewrite history?" and he responded, "There was so much invested in that record and it just didn't sit with us that we had this blemish on our recording history. We wanted to rectify that.

"I'd like to remix every record we did – maybe update some parts. But that's crazy, you know? You don't do that – records are moments in time, markers of these different periods of progression and growth. But this one was a very important record – our return after a horrible nightmare. And it deserved better." Read the full interview for a lot more here.

Anthrax's Scott Ian Jams With Volbeat
(TeamRock Radio) Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian proved there's no hard feelings with former bandmate Rob Caggiano when he joined Volbeat on stage in Hollywood on Monday night.

The ex-colleagues teamed up for a section of Anthrax classic I Am The Law before delivering Pool Of Booze Booze Booze from Volbeat's 2005 album The Strength / The Sound / The Songs.

Caggiano jumped ship in January, saying he wanted to concentrate on production, and went to work on Volbeat's Outlaw Gentlemen And Shady Ladies. Just weeks later it was announced he'd become a member of the band – leading Anthrax drummer to admit it seemed "a bit sketchy."

The thrash giants have since confirmed Shadows Fall axeman as Caggiano's replacement, with Ian telling TeamRock Radio: "I know we haven't said anything official yet, but in my mind he's the guy."

Within Temptation and Delain Postpone Tour
(TeamRock Radio) Within Temptation and Delain have postponed their upcoming UK tour until next year, after production of the headline act's album took longer than expected.

The news comes soon after Within Temptation confirmed ex-Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen is the mystery guest vocalist on upcoming EP Paradise (What About Us?).

Fans had been kept guessing after the band released a teaser video featuring two lead microphones and two pairs of ladies' shoes earlier this month. The result can be heard on the title track of the four-song release, due on September 27.

Singled Out: Campfire OK's Wishing You The Best
Today Mychal Cohen from Campfire OK tells us about "Wishing You The Best," the first single from upcoming album, "When You Have Arrived," which was released this week. Here is the story:

I will start out by saying "Wishing You The Best" was originally written on piano. It was pretty much a punk/metal/piano song. I am not even kidding. It was crazy. Like Mastadon meets Ben Folds type of crazy. I originally wrote it about 5 years ago when I only played piano, and I would sneak in to the practice rooms in the Seattle University music building (which I was eventually kicked out of and banned from campus). It is about lovers being too needy and overbearing but not knowing how to get out of that cycle even though they know it is ruining their relationships.

It was tracked for the first album, but never made the cut. About 5 months before we released the first album, we decided to start walking in to restaurants unannounced like mariachi bands and play a song for people so we could continually have an audience without having proper shows. The only catch was we didn't have a song we could do that with that was catchy and simple, and one that I could play guitar on (since carrying a piano is a bit out of the question). So I told my friend Brit that I could rewrite that song with using one note in the verse, and 4 notes in the chorus. With that, the song was finished. We have played it live the same way ever since.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video here and then learn more about the album right here!

Gibson Looks Back At Slash's Les Pauls Through The Years
(Gibson) With the "Sweet Child 'O Mine" video, Slash reminded everyone that the Les Paul was a killer rock guitar. This fact had somehow been forgotten amidst the flash and glitter of the '80s, despite the influence of Led Zeppelin on the riff-rock of the time. But it wasn't long before players started seeking out Les Pauls again. By the early '90s, the Les Paul was totally and utterly cool again, just in time to be the guitar of choice for many grunge artists. And since then it's been here to stay. Slash's contribution to the Les Paul's popularity has been celebrated with several signature models over the years. Let's take a look at them.

Slash Les Paul Snakepit (1997): Released in 1997, this guitar took a bit of inspiration from a slim-necked Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Slash had built for him in 1990, at least in the sense that both were bright red …but more on that later. The Snakepit model featured the logo of Slash's Snakepit (his post-G'n'R band) and an elaborate, curling cobra fretboard inlay. It was limited to 100 guitars worldwide, although the initial plan was to build 50. They're quite rare and tend to change hands for a lot of money today.

Slash Les Paul Standard (2004): The guitar most commonly associated with Slash's Velvet Revolver period, this Custom Shop model features Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers, a Dark Tobacco Sunburst finish, and a piezo pickup system which allows Slash to access acoustic-like tones at a flip of the mini-switch located between the two rear control pots.

Slash Les Paul Standard (2008): This Gibson USA model again uses Alnico II Pro pickups - a consistent theme for Slash until Seymour Duncan made the guitarist his own signature set - and a Tobacco Burst finish over a flame maple top. Also used in the Velvet Revolver era.

Today's Day in Rock News!

Today's Day in Rock

KISS Want Tim Tebow For Their New Pro Football Team
NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has been offered a new contract but it probably isn't one that he expected. Rock band KISS have offered the NFL star a job with their Arena Football League team.
Dubbed the L.A. KISS, the band recently announced the KISS themed expansion team that will be based out of Orange County, Ca. And they wouldn't be KISS without making headlines with big announcements.

The big announcement this time is that the band has offered Tebow a three-year contract to play for their new team after he was recently dropped by the New England Patriots.

"Tim Tebow is one of the most recognized and respected athletes in sport," said Paul Stanley. "His joining us would mean great things for his fans and for our team, especially from a business standpoint. His credibility within the sports arena is paramount. With our commitment to bringing football without compromise back to L.A., we're excited to see how this offer turns out."

"Acquiring Tebow would not only be a great investment for the team, but his exciting style of play would definitely send shockwaves through the League," added Gene Simmons. "We're excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin' their Tebow shirts and jerseys."

Tebow taking the job is a long shot as he has turned down offers from Canadian Football League and USA Rugby and has his heart set on the position of starting NFL quarterback.

Machine Head's Flynn Slams Avenged Sevenfold
(TeamRock Radio) Machine Head mainman Robb Flynn has poked fun at Avenged Sevenfold after their new album Hail To The King reached number one in the UK and US charts.

In his online diary Flynn sends his congratulations to the band for the success of their "latest covers album" and adds: "Who knew that re-recording Metallica, Guns n'Roses and Megadeth songs could be a worldwide hit? Ba-dap psssss!"

He suggests the band – who already defended their musical direction on their latest release – should change their name to Sad But Two and that lead track Hail To The King is "actually that ugly AC/DC band's song Thunderstruck."

And he jokes that sales of Metallica black album "skyrocket as fans realise where the new songs came from." Read his number-one punchline about A7X here.

Metallica Album Work Was Started Before Their New Movie
(Classic Rock) A member of Metallica have revealed that the band started work on a new studio album before turning their attention to upcoming movie Through The Never.

Bassist Rob Trujillo has confirmed the follow-up to 2008′s Death Magnetic is due to appear next year – after the release of the cinema extravaganza and its associated soundtrack album.

Speaking exclusively to Classic Rock, Trujillo says: "Before all the film stuff, we were jamming these ideas and having a lot of fun. But we got sidetracked." He adds, "In 2014 it'll be all about getting new music – without any interruptions, hopefully."

He admits the band are nowhere near completing any songs, but they're sitting on a stockpile of jams that pick up where their previous record left off.

"It feels like Death Magnetic was the launch pad – it's the introduction to what we have now," says Trujillo. Read what else he had to say here.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler Says Doctors Are Drug Dealers
(Classic Rock) Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has slammed doctors for being the equivalent of drug dealers who make it difficult for addicts to straighten out.

The Aerosmith singer last fell off the wagon when he fell off stage in 2009, leading to a series of episodes which almost cost him his position in the band – before he managed to clean up his act once more. But he insists it wasn't all his fault.

Tyler says: "I had a bunch of operations and simply didn't follow my programme. I kept the drugs at the side of my bed; I did more instead of going what was prescribed. Remember, I'm a very good drug addict because I've done it for so many years."

The singer feels it was impossible not to fall back into the addiction cycle. "You know who the new dealers are? Doctors," he states. "I've gone to and said, 'I'm in a 12-step programme.' He goes, 'Ah, good for you!'

"On the way out he says, 'You need something to sleep tonight?' I'm trying to tell him I can't take anything that's mood-altering – because if I do, I like to ride it." He had more to say.

Jimi Hendrix Documentary Includes Home Movies
(Classic Rock) A new two-hour Jimi Hendrix documentary includes home videos made by the guitar icon himself along with footage shot during his last-ever show just 12 days before he died.

Hear My Train A Comin' is released in November and makes up part of the celebrations for what would have been his 70th birthday year. The film also features recently-discovered clips from Hendrix's appearance at the Miami Pop Festival in 1968, which will also go on sale in November.

His sister Janie says: "Hear my Train a Comin' is an in-depth look at the life and legacy of Jimi in his own words, as well as the words and memories of those that knew him well and were close to him. His impression on the world through his genius, music and talent continue to magically touch the lives of ensuing generations." more on this story

Halestorm Cover AC/DC, Judas Priest, Fleetwood Mac On New EP
Halestorm will once again be reinterpreting some of their favorite songs on a covers EP. The band announced that "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" will be released on October 15th.

The new "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" will feature the band's interpretations of songs from AC/DC, Judas Priest, Fleetwood Mac, Marilyn Manson, Daft Punk and Pat Benatar.

"Like our first 'ReAniMate' EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves," said Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale.

"We decided to go more 'bare bones' with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real. We hope all our fans have as much fun with 'ReAniMate: 2.0' as we did!"

Halestorm is currently on a North American tour that hits the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City, OK tonight and have announced dates that conclude on December 15th in Chicago, IL at the House of Blues. more on this story

Pearl Jam Producer Brendan O'Brien Discusses New Album
(Classic Rock) Brendan O'Brien has produced six Pearl Jam albums, starting with their second, Vs., in 1993 and continuing with their upcoming tenth, Lightning Bolt. Ahead of Lightning Bolt's release on October 14, O'Brien was in London recently to talk about his relationship with the band.

Classic Rock: Brendan, you've worked with Pearl Jam over a period of 20 years now. What are the pros and cons of having such a well-established relationship with a band?

Brendan: I think the first cons of making four albums together was that they got tired of being told what to do, which happens to all good artists. Some time after we did Yield, I just think they wanted to do it themselves for a while. The pros are, when they're ready to do something a little more outgoing, significant – whatever you want to call it, that's what I call it, I can't help myself! – they call me again.

Classic Rock: And when they arrive in the studio, do they know what the songs are going to sound like, or is there a lot of sitting around thinking?

Brendan: There's very little sitting around thinking, I can promise you that. Because you can't pre-determine what you're doing. Except that if you do a record with Pearl Jam, you'd better have Eddie [Vedder] good and loud! And a groove going. If I do anything I've got to get that right. Most songs we still start by recording live, in the room, with everybody playing at once, even though we don't keep as much of that stuff as we used to.

Classic Rock: You've said that some Pearl Jam records are more difficult to make than others. How would you place this one on that spectrum?

Brendan: The difficulty for me was trying to get them back into the studio. I think that's probably my value to them, I'm going: "Let's keep going on, let's stop f**king around, let's go." Thinking of some of their earlier records, Vs. was hard for me to make because I didn't know any of the guys really. Especially Eddie, and Eddie was very stand-offish in those days. He was just very protective. He would tell me: "You're Stone and Jeff's friend" [laughs], when we would get into discussion. That was his defence mechanism. "Alright, man, whatever…" Read the rest of the interview here.

Alter Bridge Wanted Unpredictable Album
(TeamRock Radio) Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti says that the band did everything that they could to make their new studio album "Fortress" as unpredictable as possible.

"The last thing we wanted was verse-chorus, verse-chorus and all that. We messed with time signatures, tones, key changes," Tremonti tells MusicRadar. "Everything we could throw at these songs, we did. They have you never knowing what you're getting next."

Part of the process was refusing to take any arrangement for granted. "We didn't want to be easily satisfied," Tremonti says. "It's so tempting to say, 'That's it – it's perfect' the first time you have something.

"But you never really know it's as good as it can be until you exhaust every possibility. That's what we did." Read more and check out the video for the album's first single here.

Experimental Jon Lord Concert Launched Online
(Classic Rock) The family and friends of the late Jon Lord have launched a website offering 11 videos shot during a previously-unreleased chamber orchestra concert in 2010.

The Trondheim Experiment includes a performance of Deep Purple classic Child In Time, complete with children's choir, and the evening's finale dedicated to Ronnie James Dio, who'd died the previous week.

The clips were shot at Nidaros Cathedral in Norway on May 24 that year and have been pieced together using audience recordings. The website include behind-the-scenes sections and an interview with the keyboard icon, who passed away last year.

Billed as "a celebration of good friends and music," the concert took place in a location that Lord admired highly and referred to as "the venue of the gig that changed his life in 2003."

Introducing Child In Time Lord says: "This is a big number in my life, this one. I love doing it in a slightly more Lordy way than the Purple way – but it's pretty much the same." A lot more.

Paramore Plan Larger Than Life Shows On Upcoming Tour
(Gibson) Billboard recently caught up with Paramore singer Hayley Williams and talked about the band's upcoming U.S. tour. The band, who are currently touring Europe behind their hugely successful self-titled album, promise a show unlike any they've done on previous tours.

Hayley said: "We just put a lot of forethought and a lot of elbow grease into this. We want to show the longtime fans how far they've brought us, and we want to show all the new fans what they might have missed out on had they not caught on. So bigger production, bigger stages, obviously. We want to be a band that puts on a larger than life show."

Williams and band mates Taylor York and Jeremy Davis are riding high on the success of their number one album. It means a lot to the trio that they were able to produce hits such as "Now" and "Still Into You" after parting ways with original members Josh and Zac Farro in 2010. "I think knowing that we got through the hard time and made this record showed us there is a future and there are even brighter spots to get to and more exciting opportunities and more fun to be had," Williams said.

Paramore kick off the US leg of their tour on October 15 in Seattle. more on this story

Former Kyuss Members Couldn't Afford To Fight Josh Homme Over Name
(Classic Rock) Former Kyuss men Brant Bjork and John Garcia changed their band name to Vista Chino after concluding they couldn't afford to fight former member Josh Homme in court.

The Queens Of The Stone Age mainman had previously offered no objection to the title Kyuss Lives when the pair reunited in 2010, but became unhappy when plans to record new music moved forward. The result is that new album Peace has been released under the Vista Chino's title – but Garcia says the entire process was "unnecessary."

Garcia tells Antiquiet: "Brant and I put up a pretty good fight. But in the United States, sometimes those with the most money win. We decided it was worth the initial fight; but it got to the point where we thought it would be much better to stop.

"The lawyers, the bills, took a little bit too much of a toll on us, and we said, 'Look, we're going to change our name.'" more on this story

Dillinger Escape Plan Aim For Honesty Not Perfection
(TeamRock Radio) The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman admits they know they're not the best band in the world. But every time they go on stage, he says, they aim to be.

"This tour is full of virtuosos. Every band on this tour is shredding all day – they're backstage shredding all day," Weinman tells The Circle Pit in the video interview. "I don't pick up my guitar until five minutes before I go on stage.

"We know we're not the best band in the world; we know we're not the best played in the world. It's more about getting in the zone, really feeling it. We just have to be good enough players to translate those ideas.

"It's more about free expression than premeditated. We want to make sure the energy comes across honestly on stage." Stream the full interview here.

Mott The Hoople To Play First Shows Without Dale Giffin
(Classic Rock) Mott The Hoople keyboardist Verden Allen says the band aim to take drummer Dale 'Buffin' Giffin out for a pint because they can't have him on stage when they tour the UK in November.

It will be the first-ever shows performed by Mott without Griffin, whose Alzheimer's disease was already a problem when he appeared for part of the set during their 2009 reunion shows.

And Allen admits it was a shock seeing his old bandmate for the first time in 39 years. He tells Wales Online: "I remember him not really recognising me at first, and thinking to myself, 'Has time really been that harsh? Have I really changed that much?'"

Griffin was able to perform the band's songs "flawlessly" – but Allen says: "He'd go from laying down these note-perfect renditions to not knowing where he was. Then I noticed he was struggling to assemble his drumkit each time, as though he was seeing it for the first time in his life.

"When I asked him about the first time he noticed something was wrong, he told me he didn't really know – just that people were getting annoyed at him for doing odd things and he had no idea why." more on this story

Korn Release Reconciliation Trailer
(TeamRock Radio) Korn have released a trailer for Reconciliation, the documentary detailing how Head returned to the band in time to appear on upcoming album The Paradigm Shift.

In the video, which accompanies deluxe editions of the record, Head explains why he'd left the band in 2005 and how he ran into them again at a festival in the US last year.

He says: "My daughter wanted to go, so I was like, 'Alright, I'll sneak in there, maybe say hi to a couple of the guys.'"

Munky adds: "The day before, I found out he was going to be there and I kinda had a lump in my throat. When the moment happened it was complete relief to see the clarity in his eyes."

The shock came moments before Korn hit the stage. Head recalls: "Fieldy said, 'Hey man, I'm just saying, there's an amp and guitar set up for you.' I was like, 'What!'"

After what was supposed to be nothing more than a one-off guest spot, Munky admits: "Everyone had the same kind of hope..." Check out the trailer here.

Megadeth's Mustaine Doubted Iron Maiden Gift
(TeamRock Radio) Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine says he wasn't sure Iron Maiden's gift of champagne was really for his band. Bruce Dickinson's outfit left bottles of Moet in a bucket of ice to welcome Megadeth on board as US tour support starting earlier this month.

Mustaine tells Do512 light-heartedly: "It was a nice gesture. I looked at the sign and I was like, 'Are you sure it's me? Am I in the right dressing room?'"

He first opened for Maiden in the late 1980s and reflects: "We're all friends and it's great to see them. Plus they are such a great band. Megadeth and Iron Maiden is a no-brainer." Read more and see of a photo of the gift here.

"I would ask him, 'What do you do?' And he'd say, in Dutch, 'Gewoon door blijven gaan,' which means 'Don't stop and don't let the audience know you made a mistake. Or, smile and do it twice…then people think you meant it.'" more on this story

Singled Out: Amber Sweeny's Hit & Run
In an age of auto-tuned so-called singers, a truly gifted singer like roots rocker Amber Sweeny is a breath of much needed fresh air. Today she tells us about the song "Hit & Run" from her "Starting Line EP." Here is the story:

Hit & Run started off as a joke between me and a friend of mine as we were waiting for a few of our friends to show up for rehearsal. There is a large population of deer and possums in the part of Washington, where I live, and the joke was about nearly hitting one of these creatures, as they tend to pop up out of no where when you least expect it. It was one of those moments where we were laughing hard as we sang out the refrain "it was a hit & run."

At the same time, my friends and I were all going through some pretty intense heartbreak as a group. I've been through a few rough break-ups and the song started to make more sense as a serious story. I went home and spent time working out the details of what it feels like to break-up with someone. It's a strange feeling to pour out so much of yourself into someone and then have it suddenly come to an end. There's a flood of emotions that most of us do little more with beyond shouting at the other person, or send them angry messages, but there are the odd characters that simply break down and give into those emotions. It's like a rage that burns deep within that can't be quenched unless or until the complete destruction of the one who hurt them.

So, the story is about someone who gives in to the urge to destroy. At first, there is a satisfaction, like one imagines in Thelma & Louise. It even appears to be justified for a moment. By the end of the song, the character realizes that they threw their life away. They could have walked away, healed, and built a new life. Instead, the rage, the anger, the wounding became the driving force and now they'll never know true freedom.

It's a heavy subject for such a boppy surfer-rock sound. My engineer/producer for this song wanted to make it more jazzy and night club in feeling, and as amazing as that turned out, I felt the grit of the story completely got lost in the smoothness. It was the only song I pushed to become what it was. He graciously conceded and we went back to the drawing board to re-track the song.

The result was a slight homage to my Southern California roots, but maintains that blues rock undertone that feels so much like home to me. All in all, this became one of my favorite songs on the record, as well as outside of the record. It reminds me to press on to get over the heartbreaks, rather than to give in to them.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, check out an acoustic version of the song here listen for yourself and learn more about the EP right here!

Kings of Leon Transform Robyn's Dancing On My Own
(Radio.com) Kings of Leon managed to turn Robyn's dancefloor hit "Dancing On My Own" into a heartbreaking ballad with just a few moody guitar licks.

The guys covered the Swedish pop star's hit on BBC Radio One Live Lounge, pumping up the guitars and letting Caleb Followill's sad drawl do the rest of the work.

You haven't understood heartbreak until you hear Followill belt out the line, "So far away, but still so near/ The lights go on the music dies/You don't see me standing here/ I just came to say goodbye."

While the original forces you to dance away your pain, KOL makes it clear there's no shame in shedding a tear or two. Kings Of Leon's new album, Mechanical Bull, is out September 24. Check it out here.
