Led Zeppelin Counting Down Big Announcement?
(hennemusic) Recent rumors regarding the possible release of Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion concert this fall have peaked fan interest that the project will see the light of day.

On Saturday, Led Zeppelin posted a cryptic graphic on their Facebook page that may be related to the Belgian news report. A photo of the number "Five" – in full Zeppelin logo font. Kings of Leon Offshoot Releasing Debut EP
(Gibson) Kings of Leon bassist Jared Followill has a new spin-off band, currently known as Smoke and Jackal.

"I knew that I would go a little bit stir-crazy just not doing anything and not having any artistic outlets," he tells Rolling Stone. With fellow Nashville resident Nick Brown, singer and guitarist of the rock group Mona; Followill's outlet has arrived in the form of a new band.

The duo will release their debut, EP1, a six-song collection, on October 16. According to Followill, the project was anything but premeditated.

"It was super spur-of-the-moment," he says. The two friends' original intention, he says, was to record one song and "put it up on YouTube or something stupid like that for people to see. [Nick] sings amazing and I sing horribly, so we figured we could just go down there and try it one night." more on this story

Robert Fripp Quitting Music?
(Gibson) King Crimson's mercurial guitarist/visionary Robert Fripp has hinted he is quitting playing. In a rare interview with the Financial Times – the highbrow economics paper that, Fripp says, is the only he reads – he says: "My life as a professional musician is a joyless exercise in futility."

Fripp has been a prolific musician outside King Crimson, too. He was David Bowie's sideman on Heroes, played with Blondie and Talking Heads and has collaborated with fellow rock explorers Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel. Kanye West has sampled him. But he is embattled in over royalties, over CD sales, downloads and digital streams of Crimson tracks. "I couldn't concentrate on music," Fripp tells the FT. "So I made the choice to give up my career as a musician in the frontline to deal with the business."

Fripp continues, "It's an interesting strategy for keeping the music moving in the direction it goes – that whenever you get close to success, the band splits up. But it's a strategy that does work. Though it's one that you won't find in 'How to Succeed in the Music Industry'. And I can guarantee it will piss off people who are looking forward to having a good career." more on this story

Former Iron Maiden Singer Guests On A Sound Of Thunder's New Album
A Sound Of Thunder have recruited former Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze Bayley to make a special guest appearance on their new studio album. They sent over these details:

A Sound Of Thunder have begun work on their third full-length album entitled Time's Arrow. The band has entered Assembly Line Studios with producer Kevin "131" Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). With the same band line-up, producer and studio that created 2012's acclaimed Out of the Darkness (Nightmare Records), Time's Arrow features 11 new songs combining rousing and catchy traditional metal with crushing modern production. Time's Arrow will release in early 2013 and is the subject of the band's current Kickstarter campaign.

Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden, Wolfsbane) makes an appearance on the album, performing a duet with vocalist Nina Osegueda on the track "My Disease". "Blaze is a legendary figure in the history of metal, but more importantly he brings incredible power, passion and sincerity to his performances, and that's exactly what we needed on this song. Musically it has little in common with Maiden, and sounds more like a cross between Black Sabbath and Blaze's first few solo albums...and of course A Sound of Thunder,"said guitarist Josh Schwartz. more on this story

On Broken Wings Plan Fall Album Release
On Broken Wings is set to finish recording the tentatively titled Summer Solstice this fall at Darkside Audio, but fans can get a taste of what's to come right now. We were sent these details:

Darkside Audio is the recording studio owned and operated by guitarist Mike McMillen. The new album will be the proper follow-up to 2005's It's All A Long Goodbye, as 2007's Going Down was a re-release of the band's 2001 debut Number One Beautiful with four new songs.

A recurring theme for each of the former releases, including 2003's Some of Us May Never See The World, was the addition of "I Do My Crosswords In Pen" on each release. When asked whether or not the track would appear this time around, Mike McMillen laughed and commented, "No, that song is done!"

However the tracks featured on the Summer Solstice Single, "Crowns Meant For Kings" and "Ego Ideal," will be on the forthcoming release and offers a glimpse into the band's current sound, which is the vintage On Broken Wings. The tracks may currently be heard on Facebook

B Sides

Another Lost Year Singled Out Week: Angels
Another Lost Year release their new album "Better Days" this week and to celebrate we asked lead singer "Clinton Cunanan" to tell us about some of the tracks. Today he tells us about "Angels". Here is the story:

Angels is a song that came from being on the road all the time. Night after night we sell ourselves to people. Being in a band, is hard enough for people around you, being in a touring band is even harder for those people. Angels was just a way to say to those people that at the end of it all we're still the same, and we're not forgetting the sacrifice that these people have made for us to get to where we are at.

I wasn't setting out to write a song that I thought was going to be a "love" song, I was just trying to convey the coin is always 2 sided. I know that my friends and family are struggling through this with me. Basically at the end of it all without the sacrifice, there is nothing to gain. I had been in a hotel room for 3 weeks last year and I was pretty alone, the walls that were surrounding me we're very confining to me. And I started thinking about all the things that people have had to sacrifice to get to where they are at, and all the time they had to spend away. That's where the line "All the walls you've built fall down" came from.

Basically Angels is an apology, but at the same time, nothing should stand between you and whatever it is that you dream. The closing line, "I'll be there, til the angles take your place", has caused a lot of people to really latch on, because it conveys, no matter what I'm not leaving and I will be here until I'm dead. I hope people take some hope and understand that every dream is worth fighting for, and always worth having someone to share those dreams with.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

2012 PROVES BANNER YEAR FOR AMERICAN ROCK BAND HEART WITH NEW STUDIO ALBUM & HARDCOVER MEMOIR:

"Kicking and Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul and Rock and Roll," The Revelatory Memoir by Ann & Nancy Wilson On Sale Tuesday, September 18

With Heart's Fanatic, a new studio album, and Kicking and Dreaming, an insiders' memoir, arriving this fall, 2012 is shaping up as a banner year for the iconic American band who--beginning with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," and "Barracuda" in the mid-1970s running through 2010's Red Velvet Car--have created an enduring catalog of bona fide stadium rock classics and power ballads while establishing a lasting template for women in rock.

Fanatic, Heart's 14th studio album, arrives Tuesday, October 2. The group's second full-length studio album for Legacy, Fanatic premieres 10 new essential performances from sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson on songs including "Fanatic," "Dear Old America," "Walkin' Good" (featuring Sarah McLachlan), "Skin and Bones," "Million Miles," "Pennsylvania," "Mashallah," "Rock Deep (Vancouver)," "59 Crunch," "Corduroy Road."
The first album of new music from Ann and Nancy Wilson since 2010's Red Velvet Car had its Top 10 debut in 2010, Fanatic was recorded in hotel rooms and studios up and down the West Coast, with Grammy-winning producer Ben Mink back at the helm with the Wilson sisters drawing from their own lives and personal experiences as inspiration for their music. "Dear Old America" comes from memories of a military household and is written from the point of view of their father, a Marine Corps officer, returning from war ("When I get home, I'm going to own this town/Shine this medal/Wear that crown…."); "Rock Deep (Vancouver)" harkens back to the city where Dreamboat Annie was written; and "Walkin' Good" (a duet with Vancouver resident Sarah McLachlan) captures the joy of finding new life in a new love.
The title song is a celebration of the Wilson's life spirit: Ann and Nancy are fanatics about love, art, truth, and the belief that they can do anything together they set their minds to. Fans looking for a first taste of Fanatic can check out the title track on YouTube.
"What a crazy year we are having," said Ann Wilson. "Our box set, Strange Euphoria, and our book, Kicking and Dreaming, each tell the story of our lives so far, personally and musically. Our new album, Fanatic, tells our story as it is now and brings it all up-to-the-minute. What a thrill to have worked with both Charles Cross and Ben Mink respectively on these, and of course to touch the musical magic Nancy and I have always shared together. Anybody want to RAWK??"
Released in 2010, Fanatic's predecessor, Red Velvet Car (the first new studio album in six years from the groundbreaking Seattle-based band) entered the Billboard 200 best-selling album charts at #10, becoming the seventh Top 10 album of Heart's career. Heart's critically-acclaimed first album for Legacy Recordings marked the return of Heart to the Sony Music Entertainment family, reaching #1 in sales on Amazon.com on Sunday, September 5.
On June 5, Epic Records/Legacy Recordings released Strange Euphoria, the first definitive career-spanning, multi-label boxed set retrospective chronicling the seminal American rock band Heart, personally curated by Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson. A carefully-considered anthology of biggest hits and best-loved songs set alongside deep catalog treasures, rarities, demos and live performances, Strange Euphoria includes three compact discs and one DVD in a deluxe box.

Ann Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the '70s with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Straight On," "Even It Up," "Kick It Out" and many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the '80s and into the '90s with huge hits like "These Dreams," "Alone," "Never," and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters' enormous talents as both musicians and singers. Along the way, Heart sold more than 35 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and profoundly influenced the sound and direction of American rock music while inspiring women (and guys too!) around the world to rock out in bands of their own.
Heart were 2008 recipients of VH1 Rock Honors, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northwest Grammy Foundation, and received ASCAP's award for Excellence in Songwriting in 2009.
What's made Heart endure across four decades and 14 studio albums, from Dreamboat Annie (1976) through 2012's Strange Euphoria and Fanatic is simply the quality of the music and the Wilsons' deep connection to the emotions, psyches and experiences of their fans. Heart will be touring throughout the summer and fall (June 29-November 17). Alejandro Escovedo and Shawn Colvin will be supporting in October and November respectively. This fall , Ann and Nancy Wilson will be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (followed by a live concert webcast).

Tuesday, September 18 marks the publication of the HarperCollins hardcover edition of Kicking and Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul and Rock and Roll, the avidly-awaited insider's memoir penned by Ann & Nancy Wilson with noted Seattle-based author Charles R. Cross ("Room Full of Mirrors - A Biography of Jimi Hendrix"; "Heavier Than Heaven" - a biography of Kurt Cobain).
Since finding their love of music and performing as teenagers in Seattle, Washington, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson have been an influential part of the rock music landscape. From 70s classics like "Magic Man" and "Barracuda" to chart- topping 80s ballads like "Alone" up to 2012's Fanatic, Heart continues as an ongoing force in pop culture, inspiring women and men alike with the power and beauty of their music.
Despite their massive success, Ann and Nancy have always faced a different kind of scrutiny than their male counterparts in hard-rock and metal band, and had to face questions that no male rock star ever would be asked. Kicking and Dreaming allows Ann and Nancy to communicate as directly with the reader as their songs do with fans. A first-hand chronicle of tumultuous inter-band relationships, thirty years of roller-coaster fame and continual reinvention, and, of course, the kind of excess that can comes from the surreal, and hyper-real demands of life on the road, Kicking and Dreaming is an intimate, honest, and a uniquely female take on rock and roll life.

UNIVERSAL PUBLISHING SIGNS STEVE PERRY DEAL:

From: www.musicweek.com/news/read/universal-publishing-signs-steve-perry-deal/051674
by Tim Ingham

Don't Stop Believin' hitmaker Steve Perry has signed an exclusive publishing administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group for the world outside of the US and Canada. The deal includes all songs written or co-written by Perry throughout his career, including as lead singer of Journey and his solo work.
“One of the greatest voices in the history of rock also wrote or co-wrote some of rocks greatest songs. We couldn't be prouder that he has chosen to bring those songs to UMPG. We look forward to working with him on both his iconic catalog and his new songs,” said Zach Horowitz, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Publishing Group.
Steve Perry said, “I so look forward to being a part of the Universal Music Publishing Group. I know they really get what songs are about and they still believe in the magic of music."
As the lead singer of Journey and in his solo career, Perry is responsible for writing or co-writing tracks such as Oh Sherrie, Any Way You Want It, Foolish Heart, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), Open Arms, Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin,' Who's Crying Now. His songs have been featured on television shows such as Glee and American Idol, and in Broadway plays like Rock of Ages and films like Monster, Money Ball. Artists who have recorded cover versions of his songs include Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Barry Manilow, Martina McBride, and Rise Against.
In the UK, the Glee cast version of Don't Stop Believin' went to No.2 on the Official Singles chart. Infinity, Perry's first album with Journey, has sold more than 3 million copies while 1981's Escape has sold more than 12.4 million worldwide. The band's Greatest Hits album, with most songs written or co-written by Steve Perry, has sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Journey's catalog has now sold over 60 million albums.

So what does this mean folks? Well, basically Steve Perry's publishing contract was up for renewal and this is his new deal. It is a promising step towards new music, especially given that UMPG CEO Zack Horowitz used the term "his new songs" in his statement. But even unreleased songs need copyright/publishing protection, so this is no immediate indication of new material imminent. Van Halen did the same thing a little while back, renewing with Warner Music and it was still 18 months until a new album surfaced. So good news, but a new Steve Perry album is still some time off I think.

Glenn Hughes Had Second Thoughts About Deep Purple Tribute
(Classic Rock) Glenn Hughes had second thoughts about whether to contribute to Deep Purple tribute album Re-Machined. But in the end he appears on two tracks of the disc dedicated to celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band's groundbreaking Machine Head album.

Re-Machined is released later this month but is available now as part of a Classic Rock Fan Pack. The former member, who's currently fronting Black Country Communion – although possibly not for much longer – recorded a version of Maybe I'm A Leo with Chad Smith and Luis Maldonado.

Then when keyboardist Jon Lord died suddenly, he went back into the studio to lay down a cover of Highway Star, even though Smith's band Chickenfoot had already delivered their own version. His take on the track is included as an exclusive bonus in the Fan Pack edition. Read about his second thoughts here.

"I wrote that song having a fight with my girlfriend," Muse frontman Matt Bellamy told KROQ's Stryker during a recent interview.

"Nothing particularly over the top, but just having one of those moments where she leaves you for the day to think about it. I rarely write songs that catharticly. All I had was a drum machine and a synthesizer, so I just put this very minimal thing together." Watch it here.

What you see is what you get. It never really had a chance to work out or not. The band decided C.C. (DeVille) was the best choice for us" Michaels tells Austin360.com.

Slash apparently agreed that C.C. was better fit as he discussed in this interview.

Singled Out: Sarah Fimm
Today Sarah Fimm tells us about her recently released "Barn Sessions" EP which was recorded in its entirety in a barn with Loudboy (Botanica and Peter Murphy). Here is the story:

"Barn Sessions was a simple way to record and perform new music outside of the box. I felt the need to create the place for the music, instead of going to an already existing place. You have much better control over the environment in many ways (I think of the mouse that appears behind John's head in 'Hiding' and laugh at myself when I say that). Having less variables tends to create a more focused piece, in my experience.

I feel there is a profound lack of interconnectedness in the world today, despite our ability to communicate so easily using new methods. There is an explosion of new technology, but sometimes feel the humanity has become obscured. There are more barriers, more illusions, more mechanisms to hide behind. Music, art and simplicity help to deconstruct these barriers. Simplicity is where I go, when complexity of the practical realities become an encumbrance. We have to go back to the beginning. Music begins in nature. It is all around us constantly in every waking moment.

This is why I wanted to combine the intimacy of a live performance with the natural environment and history of Woodstock. I do not like performing in clubs with urine on the floor. I would rather hear the sound of the crickets making a perfect chorus in the starry Catskill night. My hope is to one day do many Barn Sessions featuring different unique and wonderful musicians. I hope it will inspire artists and musicians around the world will take a piece of that spirit, break out their instruments and tell the world what it really sounds like. That is what my dreams look like, anyway."

Hearing is believing. Listen for yourself and learn more about the EP right here!

Rush's Geddy Lee Finds Touring Difficult
(hennemusic) Rush kick off their "Clockwork Angels" world tour this Friday in Manchester, NH. The North American leg runs to December 2 when it wraps in Houston, following which the band takes a break before heading to Europe to begin a series of dates in May.

As the Canadian rockers prepare for the tour's launch, bassist Geddy Lee spoke with Grammy.comabout life on the road. "I find it more stressful than when I was younger. I think the physical part of it takes its toll on me, and the other guys I know for sure," says Geddy.

"Staying healthy becomes a more difficult challenge, and as the tour winds on, nerves fray in a different way than they used to. Although, you have more confidence than when you were younger, and more command of your instrument [and], as a result, more command of your audience's attention, which makes it easier. There is kind of a physical price you pay as the tour winds on, whereas when I was younger I could be in almost any condition, get out there and bang it off. I'm grateful for the audiences that we have, wherever we go. But it's a difficult thing for me to do right now." more on this story

LOVERBOY WOWS FANS, CRITICS ON TOUR WITH JOURNEY, PAT BENATAR + NEIL GIRALDO:

Legendary Canadian rockers celebrate new album release, Rock 'n' Roll Revival, with blockbuster tour through end of year
Los Angeles, Sept. 4, 2012—Loverboy are not just "Working for the Weekend" these days. They're performing overtime, wowing fans and critics alike, while on their current North American tour with Journey and Pat Benatar + Neil Giraldo through December.
The band recently released a new studio album, Rock 'n' Roll Revival, on Frontiers Records, featuring three new tracks, "Heartbreaker" and "No Tomorrow," produced with their original engineer, Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi) at Bryan Adams' famed Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, as well as "Rock 'n' Roll Revival, penned by Paul Dean and Mike Reno. The group still features the original line-up of vocalist Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, drummer Matt Frenette and keyboardist Doug Johnson with bassist Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith. The album also includes live re-recordings of some of the band's greatest hits like "Working for the Weekend," "Turn Me Loose," "Lovin' Every Minute of It," "The Kid Is Hot Tonight," "Queen of the Broken Hearts" and "Hot Girls in Love."

Reviews for the band's current tour with Journey and Pat Benatar + Neil Giraldo, which began July at San Bernardino's San Manuel Amphitheatre and ends Dec. 4 at Victoria, BC's Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, have been ecstatic.
The Kansas City Star raved: "Loverboy's set was punctuated by a killer rendition of 'Turn Me Loose' and the crowd-pleasing 'Working for the Weekend.'"
Salt Lake Tribune was effusive in its praise: "[Loverboy] and lead singer Mike Reno haven't lost much after decades of touring. Classics such as 'Turn Me Loose,' 'Hot Girls in Love' and 'The Kid is Hot Tonight' had an appreciative audience on its feet, singing along and showed that Reno can still hit the high notes. But the final song, 'Working for the Weekend,' might have set the tone for the night. The audience had been working all week long and seemed ready to enjoy a night of good old '80s rock 'n' roll."
Kentucky's Scene and Heard noted: "The band was very tight, Paul Dean was excellent on guitar, his chords and solos are the driving force of the band."
The Pioneer Press enthused: "None of these three acts dabbles in camp, but instead plays the old hits as faithfully as possible… Loverboy opened the show with a concise, seven-song set that found room for pretty much every hit…The grandstand already was hopping when they ambled on shortly after 7 p.m., and lead singer Mike Reno seemed to feed off the energy."
Today.com got into the spirit, too, chiming in: "Loverboy is embracing its past while setting its sights on a future that … will bring them more music, fans and fun."
Michigan Live offered: "But if truth be told, the Canadian band that still holds the record for winning the most Juno Awards in one year—six of Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Awards—is still working hard, and OK, loving every minute of it, too."

For its 30-year-plus career, Loverboy has delighted audiences around the world since forming in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more 30 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million selling Get Lucky and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983's Keep It Up and 1985's Lovin' Every Minute of It, not to mention having hit songs featured on multi-platinum soundtracks, like Footloose and Top Gun.

Vince Neil Blames Valet Blowup On Stupidity and Incompetence
(hennemusic) Motley Crue singer Vince Neil is offering his side of the story regarding a recent outburst in a Las Vegas parking lot.

Neil was caught on video yelling and screaming at a group of parking valets at the Planet Hollywood in Vegas last month. TMZ reported that Vince flew off the handle when the valets refused to return the keys to his Rolls-Royce.

Now, the Crue frontman has released a statement to Las Vegas' Fox 5 TV program "More Access," saying, "I was not given a valet ticket when I first parked my Rolls-Royce. They then refused to give me the car even though it was parked only ten feet away. I gave them my license and told them to simply open the car and look at my registration, and again they refused. This could have been avoided except for the stupidity and incompetence of the valets and security." more on this story

Singled Out: Shane Gamble
Today indie rock/country/Americana star Shane Gamble tells us about "Turn My Way," the hit single from his forthcoming self-titled album which is set to hit stores on September 18th. Here is the story:

"Turn My Way" is a track that was written quite quickly on my studio couch one day. The basic premise of the song is about a guy that sees a girl that just blows him away... but she doesn't really notice him. It's his determination to meet the girl that propels the song.

Originally, I made an acoustic "demo" of "Turn My Way" that I just LOVED. To me the song felt done. It was essentially acoustic guitar vocal and a set of concert bells for the pre chorus. At this same time I was talking with Atlanta based producer Rick Beato. Rick said, "why don't you send me some new songs?"... So I said, "well, I have this new song 'Turn My Way' that I just recorded but I might just keep it like it is." He responded, "Shane..."I'm a producer! send it to me!" After he heard the song he called me and said "Dude, I have to produce this song...I got it"... So off to Atlanta from Washington, DC I fly... As it turns out, Rick did and amazing job producing the song!

I found that tempo was a really important factor. For this song, it needed to have enough drive to feel urgent, but enough space to allow the lyrical message to breathe. By the time I got off the airplane and arrived back home the song was well on its way to sounding complete, but there was one element missing; the female vocal. So Rick provided me the tracks and I completed the song at my Maryland studio by pulling in good friend Jaqueline Claypool on harmony vocals. The song is now complete, it tells the whole story. Enjoy!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

The Black Keys Release Little Black Submarines Video
(hennemusic) The Black Keys have released a video for "Little Black Submarines," the latest track from their current album, "El Camino."

Filmed by Danny Clinch in Nashville's Springwater Supper Club, guitarist Dan Auerbach tells Rolling Stone that a live performance wasn't the original vision for the video.

"There was a storyline but it didn't work," the guitarist says, so the band let a select group of fans into the minuscule bar for the filming of the one song - and they ended up playing an entire show. "We all just sort of kind of mutually agreed that it should probably just be the performance and not any of the other extra stuff," he says. "Luckily we had live footage so we turned it into a live video. We just sort of said 'You know, it was fun kind of performing here at a small club with the fans. Why don't we just have it be that?'" "I'd never done it before. It's kind of like [The Clash's] 'Sandinista!,' Ian Dury's 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' and the Tom Tom Club song, 'Genius of Love.'" We were trying to figure out how to make dance music without turning into a dance band." Watch it here.

Clearly the band realized the challenge they were facing in trying to replace an iconic frontman like Tyler. "It's impossible to fill Steven's shoes, that's not gonna happen," said the guitarist, although he went to say that the band "spoke to a couple of people that were semi-interested," including the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar.

"Well, we spoke to Sammy, and he was really excited about it," Whitford explained. "I love Sammy, and I was like, 'Oh man this would be so cool!' (But) it all started to come back together on its own, like it was going to and should have." more on this story

Pride plays a factor and pride is dangerous in those slippery, steep and treacherous places. At 12,000ft both my eyes went blurry and nausea was overcoming me. At about 12,800ft a guide from another climb came up to me and announced he thought I had a cerebral edema, and 'could die soon if he doesn't get down very quickly.' Satriani explains: "We started our first tour and we were threatening to play it. I don't think Sammy wanted to do it – he'd never really memorised the lyrics. Somebody printed them up and threw them on the stage. At the beginning of the song you hear me starting up Bad Motor Scooter because that's what was on the setlist. Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense Named Best Gig Movie
(Classic Rock) The Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense has been named the best gig movie ever by Classic Rock's sister magazine, Total Film.

Total Film says Stop Making Sense is its No.1 choice because: 'The rock gig is deconstructed as Jonathan Demme captures the innovative staging of a Talking Heads gig, from solo performance to full band to David Byrne dancing in an oversized suit.

'Best song is the opener, Psycho Killer – just Byrne, an acoustic guitar and a drum machine whose staccato rhythms cause the singer to stagger around like a murder victim.' See what else made the list

Singled Out: Ron Pope
Ron Pope kicks off his Across the Yard North American tour tomorrow in Syracuse, NY. To celebrate we asked him to tell us about the song "In My Bones" from his latest album "Atlanta". Here is the story:

I only had a few months between my Spring/Summer tour and my fall tour in 2011. In that time, I needed to figure out the concept for what would eventually become the "Atlanta" album, then write and record it. I gave myself four weeks to write the songs for the album. Every weekday, I'd get up in the morning, and then I'd bang my head against the wall all day, hoping that a song would fall out. After a few weeks of non-stop writing, I started to go a little bit crazy. One morning, I had a song idea that refused to get finished. Hour after hour after hour went by and I just couldn't work it out. Eventually, I decided to take a break and hop in the shower, because I was starting to smell a little bit hobo-esque. While I was in the shower, all the sudden a melody hit me, so I started humming. Then words just popped into my head. I got out of the shower singing, dried off, then sat down at the keyboard, and played "In My Bones" all the way through. It was like the song had been sitting out there in the ether, waiting for me to reach out and grab it. That doesn't happen to me very often, but when it does, I'm always amazed. To me, that song feels like it always existed and was just waiting for the right moment to reveal itself to me.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album and grab the tour dates right here!
