Report: AC/DC Recruiting Axl Rose To Replace Brian Johnson(New Rock Times)

For today's wild rumor mill report: The rumor linking Axl Rose with the temporary frontman of AC/DC has been circulating rock n' roll circles now for some weeks. Atlanta Radio 100.5 DJ Jason Bailey let the cat out of the bag on his radio show that he had received intel from an unnamed source that Axl was all but confirmed to front the band for the rest of the tour.
On his radio show Jason Bailey said: "This is what I'm being told, Axl was meeting with the AC/DC group, because it's all but a done deal that Axl will front AC/DC for the 10 remaining shows. All 10, including Atlanta."

"From what I was told, this was all kind of new inside information to me, Angus is a very black and white guy. He's like, Brian, for health reasons, can't continue fronting the band.

He continued: "He was supposed to retire after the last tour, so they wanted to continue going out on the road and continue making music, so if you can't do it, we appreciate your services, but the show must go on.

"They're in town, they were auditioning people for the job, and then they flew Axl in, again, this is from my source." Read more here.

Van Halen's 15 Song Early Demos Owned By Gene Simmons(Classic Rock)

Kiss mainman Gene Simmons has recalled his work with Van Halen in 1976. Simmons saw the fledgling band on the Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, prior to the group signing a record deal in the mid-70s. He went on to produce a demo for Eddie Van Halen and co. And the bassist says while the material features "a lot of cool stuff" Van Halen don't want it to see the light of day.
Simmons tells Rolling Stone: "I discovered the band. I saw them, signed them, flew them to New York and put them in Electric Lady Studios. They were signed to my company, Man Of 1000 Faces. I produced their 24-track demo - 15 songs - which I still own.

"It has everything from the first record and also faster versions of House Of Pain. It's a lot of cool stuff, but the band just doesn't want it to come out. The back and forth with David Lee Roth complicated matters."

Simmons reports he also recruited Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen to record some demos which would eventually end up as Kiss tracks. Read about that here.

Scorpions Forced To Cancel Tour For Medical Reasons(Classic Rock)

Scorpions have cancelled four German tour dates after Klaus Meine was given doctor's orders to rest. The vocalist called a halt to the band's show in Hamburg on Monday after 30 minutes, complaining of a sore throat.
After being assessed by a doctor and diagnosed with an advanced viral infection and larynx and trachea inflammation, gigs in Cologne, Leipzig, Frankfurt and Berlin have been pulled.

Scorpions have vowed to announce rescheduled dates for the gigs, including the Hamburg show, in the coming days. Meine says: "Sorry to all our fans. Thanks for your understanding. Hope we can make up for the concerts soon."

In a further statement, the band says: "On Monday evening, March 21, Klaus Meine had to break off the fifth of the nine German concerts in Hamburg Barclaycard Arena after just 30 minutes. Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets' Selected For National Registry(hennemusic)

Metallica's 1986 album classic, "Master Of Puppets", is among 25 sound recordings selected for induction into the US Library Of Congress National Recording Registry.
"The title track starts unsurprisingly enough with a crisp power chord and catchy riff," highlights the National Recording Registry entry, "but halfway through, the tempo slows and a clean arpeggiated progression, accompanied by cello-like tones, introduces Hetfield's mid-tempo lead which eschews tapping, sweep picking and, other metal guitar techniques.

"Black Sabbath bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler has commented that Metallica's 1980s output brought the music 'back to the spirit of [Black] Sabbath' and, he further emphasizes, 'If we started it, then [Metallica] reinvented it.'" Read more here.

Eric Clapton Soundtracks Auschwitz Documentary(The Blues)

A documentary movie about the Auschwitz concentration camp directed by Phillipe Mora's, featuring a soundtrack by his friend Eric Clapton, will be released in May.
Three Days In Auschwitz is Mora's personal exploration of the Nazi death camp and its lasting impact. His mother would have been sent there, almost certainly to die, if she'd been processed by Nazi officials one day earlier, while many of his father's family were murdered during the Holocaust of the Second World War.

Mora has visited the scene three times between 2010 and 2014, in an attempt to understand and commemorate what happened there. He describes the movie as "a unique and trusting collaboration between old friends" and adds: "I was blown away by Eric's score for the film, which combined the tragedy of the events with a celebration of life. He created music with great dignity and emotional power.

"In my opinion, this is one for the ages." Watch the trailer here.

The band had this to say: "Welcome to Amon Amarth, Jocke. Jocke will be joining us as drummer for our upcoming tours, and we're happy to have him."

Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen recently described Andersson's departure as similar to a divorce, adding: "It's really difficult to find this new guy. But, whoever it's going to be, it's going to be good. So I have no worries." Stream the new song here.

Dave Grohl Comes To The Aid Of Teenage Garage Band(New Rock Times)

The nicest man in rock has done it again after Dave Grohl leapt to the defence of a fledgling metal band from Cornwall. The Foo Fighters mainman has waded into a row between The Black Leaves of Envy and Conrnwall Council who had ordered the band to quit plasticizing following noise complaints from neighbors.
But the teenage metallers have found the most unlikely of allies in Grohl who has penned a letter to the authority after the band got in touch with him. Asking the council to 'reconsider the restrictions,' Grohl recounted his own youth spent developing his musical craft in a garage.

In his open letter, which he shared with his band's more than 12 million followers, he wrote: "Music is not only a healthy pastime, it is a wonderful, creative outlet for kids, and fosters a sense of community necessary to the emotional and social development of any child."

The rock hero who has amassed record sales in excess of 100 million between his bands expressed his belief that it is "crucial that children have a place to explore their creativity and establish a sense of self through song" and that "the preservation of such is paramount to the future of art and music." Trower says: "It ranges from rock to funky soul, with some epic blues grooves. The title track is me reflecting on my life and career, and how we have no idea how our lives might unfold.

"In terms of influences I felt I was channelling a combination of James Brown and John Lee Hooker on the funky The Fruits Of Your Desire and album closer Delusion Sweet Delusion. I'm really looking forward to playing those on tour."

He adds: "Opener When Will The Next Blow Fall is a bit of a rocker inspired by the events in Europe and how uncertain people's futures are. The album features two very emotional tracks, We Will Be Together Someday and I'm Holding On To You, both dedicated to the memory of my late wife." Read more here.

Speaking about how he chose which songs to feature on the album, frontman Danzig said: "There's so many artists that I love: I had to have Elvis and Black Sabbath on there because without those two there's no Danzig.

"After that I had to think about songs that I could make my own, songs I could bring new dimensions to. These are the artists that made me, so obviously I wanted to do the songs justice." Watch the video here.

Disturbed Regained Original Chemistry With Approach To Immortalized(TeamRock Radio)

Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan says the band will never record again without everyone being in the same room. They released their comeback Immortalized last year and Donegan says the experience of spending time in a studio together helped the band get better results.
He tells 98 KUPD: "Once we got back in the room together and we started tossing around ideas, it was just like riding a bike, back to the same old routine. The chemistry was there.

"The routine changed, because we wanted to go back to how we did in the beginning. Even though we live in different states now, the technology of Pro Tools and sending files is a great tool to have, but it could take away that human element, that chemistry you have being in a room together.

"So we made a conscious effort this time to say, 'You know what? if we live in different states, and that means hopping on a plane and spending more time with each other, then that's what we're gonna do. This is what a band should be.'" Read more here.

Caligula's Horse have released a video for their track Turntail, taken from third album Bloom. The record was released in October - and frontman Jim Grey believe the track sums up the full work perfectly.
He says: "Turntail is exactly what Caligula's Horse is about. It's powerful, energetic, melodic and forthright. This is a song about taking a stand, about fighting for freedom in whatever way you can.

"Considering the atrocious political climate in Australia and worldwide, I don't think we could have released this single at a more appropriate time." Watch the new video here.

Ben Craven Announces New Album, Streams First Song(TeamRock Radio)

Australian singer-songwriter Ben Craven has announced that his third album will be titled Last Chance To Hear. No release date has been set for the follow-up to Great & Terrible Potions, but Craven has issued a stream of the track The Remarkable Man.
Craven says: "Last Chance To Hear is loosely inspired by the end of the music industry as we knew it. There's never been a time when so much new music was being made by so many people and being listened to by so few people.

"The concept of paying for new music is now alien to a lot of the audience. Digital downloads have made physical media virtually obsolete. Streaming services mean that anybody making new music is now competing with the whole history of recorded music - and the album format is in danger of becoming extinct. There's never been a time full of more 'opportunity' than now. So I made an album about it."

The album will feature guest contributions from Billy Sherwood and William Shatner, with Craven saying the new material is a "logical progression" from his previous release and adds: "The arrangements are more confident and more purposeful. But probably the biggest difference is that there are fewer vocals on this new one." Read more and stream the song here.

"I still love all our records and those parts of our musical DNA, but I thought it was time we took our musical evolution and made it do 100 push-ups every morning." Watch the new video here.

Knifeworld Announce UK Spring Tour(Prog)

Knifeworld have announced a short UK tour for May. They'll play in Leicester, Leeds, Brighton and London in support of their upcoming third album Bottled Out Of Eden, due for release on April 22 via InsideOut Music.
On the album, frontman Kavus Torabi previously said: "One aspect of Bottled Out Of Eden is the idea of a self-made heaven or a self-imposed hell, that agony or ecstasy are often a choice.

"I look back on the 25 years of making the kind of music I do, particularly the last six with Knifeworld and just feel so fortunate for the friendships, experiences and absolute joy it has brought.

"I wanted the album to be as much about that, a celebration of this all too fleeting life, as it is a reflection on death and its impact on those left behind in its wake." See the dates here.

Diamond Head Named Bloodstock Headliner(Classic Rock)

NWOBHM icons Diamond Head are set to headline Bloodstock's Sophie Lancaster Stage on Friday, August 12. The Stourbridge band, who've influenced the likes of Metallica and Megadeth, will release their self-titled album on April 22 - their first release in over eight years.
Joining Diamond Head in today's announcement are Swedish industrial metallers Misery Loves Co. They'll appear on the Ronnie James Dio stage. Say the band:

"The UK was always special to Misery Loves Co. Our very first show outside of Scandinavia was in London and without the support of the British people we probably would have stayed in Scandinavia forever, listening to ABBA, eating herring and dreaming of the outside world. Doing a summer of festivals without coming to the UK would have been a failure, so we can't wait to come to Bloodstock!" Read more here.

Success Would Have Literally Killed The Wildhearts Says Ginger(New Rock Times)

Ginger Wildheart says one, 'or probably two,' members of the Wildhearts would have died had they made it big in the '90s. The band were kicking on the door of the mainstream in 1995 when their second full length album 'P.H.U.Q' spawned a handful of singles which invaded the UK charts.
Regular appearances on Top of the Pops followed before a well publicized row with their then-label East West saw the band lose their momentum. But perhaps that was for the best reveals Ginger during an exclusive chat with Eric Mackinnon of the New Rock Times. He says: "I kind of know what would have happened if we'd got big as a band, at least one of us would have died. No doubt about it. Probably two of us.

"If we'd had the money that success would have given us we'd have killed ourselves with overuse of drugs and alcohol. I'm not bragging about up being debauched or anything, we were just that way. We'd have kept doing drugs until they killed us. Fortunately we used to run out of money quite regularly."

Ginger is the man of a thousand bands where, in addition to the Wildhearts, the multi-talented musician regular performs with other artists and has roles in other projects.

His current band Hey! Hello! Are currently searching for a new singer after Hollis Mahady moved to Los Angeles. Read more here.

Singled Out: Jason Paulson's Bad Habits

Roots/Americana songwriter Jason Paulson is releasing his new album "Crow River Ramble" tomorrow (March 25th). To celebrate we asked Jason to tell us about the single "Bad Habits". Here is the story:
"Bad Habits" is the first single off our new album and is actually the first song I had written for it. I sat down to write and just started strumming a kind of country shuffle thing. I was singing whatever came to mind and the first time through the words "I wonder what comes next, bad habits or bad checks" came out and I just started building around that.

Being a working musician is not the easiest road! Picking up what odd jobs you can between tours and album releases. I have felt the sting of that tag line more than once, and I imagine there is a good portion of the population that have as well. So I started putting together words that reflected my situation as well as the people around me. I suppose it is a bit of a blue collar tale.

The song starts "her eyes could always see, a better part of me, I wonder just how much I have left." How many people have looked in the eyes of their loved ones and forced a smile, trying to live up to something and falling a little short. "Money can't buy smiles, but it could hide the pain a while, instead of working three jobs to live in debt." I grew up with slightly hippie parents. That was kind of the motto, Love is all you need…….I agree it is, but if you have love already, a little less stress and more time with the people that mean most to you would be nice and sometimes money is the what can make that happen.

The chorus starts getting a little more personal, the tiredness of working so much, the nightlife running into the daytime, Being a dad, chasing a dream, trying to be a good husband, it all comes back to that tag line and wondering how much longer a person can continue to chase a dream before the price you pay is more than the prize at the end.

The rest of the song continues through the woes of a traveling musician or any father really that works hard and long hours to hopefully make a better life for his family. In the bridge I try to touch on the reasons why he continues a bit, or at least my reasons. "All who wander are not lost, and you can't avoid the cost, of the stories you can't throw away." I hope it's a small glimpse as to why to keep going.

The song ends with "So, I wonder what comes next, bad habits or bad checks, cause lately I've been too damn tired to fight." I hope it leaves the story a little unresolved. In a way it allows people to write their own ending. For me the fight keeps going. For the listener, well that is their call. We all go through the hard times, it is what you chose to do with the experience that creates the ending to any story.

Bad Brains Frontman Diagnosed With Rare Disorder(Classic Rock)

Bad Brains frontman HR - aka Paul Hudson - has been diagnosed with a rare headache disorder which leaves him living in "almost constant pain." His wife Lori Hudson, who is also his full-time caregiver, has launched a $50,000 crowdfunding campaign to help pay for medical expenses and care.
She says: "He has a neurobiological disorder and has also had severe headaches for years, but the headaches have gotten progressively worse. In November, he began living with almost constant pain.

"He has been diagnosed with a rare type of headache called SUNCT, a trigeminal neuralgia that is similar to cluster headaches. There is no known cure and no reliable medical treatment. To give you an idea of what he's dealing with, cluster headaches are nicknamed 'Suicide Syndrome.'

"The headaches come randomly, with no warning, at all hours of the day and night; but for him, they are much worse at night. The intensity of the headaches is so great that he yells, cries out, groans, and sobs - repeatedly, every few minutes, for most of the night.

"He can't work. He has no quality of life. If you call him and ask how he is, he will say, 'Everything's okay,' because that's just how he is. But everything is not okay." Read more here.

AC/DC Considering Bon Scott Biopic Star As New Singer

AC/DC singer rumor roulette continues as there appears to be another name in the mix to replace frontman Brian Johnson, who the band says faced complete hearing loss if he had continued with their previously scheduled tour commitments.
Rob Liotti, the former Honeygun singer and the actor who has been selected to portray Bon Scott in a biopic about the late AC/DC frontman, says that he has been in contact with the band about replacing Johnson, according to BraveWords.

They report that Liotti had this to say, "Yes, I will confirm that I have had contact with the band - both directly and through third parties close to the AC/DC camp, but that's really all I can say."

He added, "I received a call from a fan in France today who said he felt I was the guy for the job. He is friends with a Young family member and insisted that he was making a call to recommend me. You have to love people that dedicated."

Liotti also had this to say about Krokus singer Marc Storace, who is also said to be in consideration for the job, "Marc is a good vocalist and I personally like his work. Ironically, I know former Krokus drummer, Steve Pace, and we have jammed together. The night we met, Steve was quick to say that Marc and I reminded him of one another.

"I think I'm a bit grittier than Marc to be honest. I've had a lot more practice with the Bon Scott era stuff, but he can clearly pull that off. It's the music post-Bon that is the issue. I can do both..."

It is unclear what direct contact he has had with the band about the possible gig. He says that he has "not been contacted about an audition. They do have sound files of me singing a few of their songs. They clearly know who I am given the Bon Scott film project.

"At this point, it is up to Angus Young. If he feels like I'm the guy, I'm happy to help complete their tour dates. Hopefully they can get over the fact I'm 6'2 and American."

Keith Emerson's Death Officially Ruled A Suicide(Classic Rock)

Keith Emerson's death has been ruled a suicide by investigating authorities. The Emerson, Lake and Palmer keyboard icon was found dead at his home last week, aged 71, after what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The County Of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner's coroner report lists other significant causes of death as heart disease and depression cause by chronic use of alcohol. The case has been closed.

Emerson's girlfriend said at the weekend that he'd become "tormented with worry" about upcoming show in Japan, after suffering a nervous problem that made it difficult for him to play.

Mari Kawaguchi told the Daily Mail: "His right hand and arm had given him problems for years. He had an operation a few years ago but the pain and nerve issues were getting worse.

"Keith was worried - he read all the criticism online and was a sensitive soul. Last year he played concerts and people posted mean comments such as, 'I wish he would stop playing.'" Read more here.

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan says in a new interview that work on the band's long-awaited fifth album, the follow up to 2006's 10,000 Days, has ground to a halt again.
They've been working on the new album for several years, with guitarist Adam Jones predicting last year that an end to a legal battle meant progress would speed up. But Keenan tells PE.com: "We've found a common ground - we just can't seem to move forward."

In November, Jones described their work to date as "amazing," adding: "Things are really flowing and going really well. I'm just blown away at the stuff that's coming together. I can't wait for it to be done." Read more here.

It is directed by BJ McDonnell, who was also the man behind the Repentless clip. Guitarist Kerry King tells Rolling Stone: "It's really cool being part of a video that's not just some crappy music video from the 80s or 90s.

"It's from a real Hollywood director who has a lot of friends in the biz who stepped up and wanted to be in a Slayer video. That's what makes it cool to me." Watch the new video here.

They are working with producer Mike Sapone and engineer Mike Pepe in Charlotte, North Carolina. Taking Back Sunday say: "During this process we've been discovering and surprising ourselves in realising how good of a band we've become. Not to go full Kanye but none of us can believe, when we're listening back during tracking, that this is our band.

"It's incredible. The timing also worked perfectly, we'll basically be going straight from the studio to Taste Of Chaos where we'll have the opportunity to let these new songs out of their cages." See their upcoming dates here.

Dream Theater Release Official Trailer For The Astonishing Album(Prog)

Dream Theater have released a further trailer for their latest album The Astonishing. The video features a narration explaining the album's concept. The Astonishing was released in January with an earlier trailer issued that same month.
In the video, the narrator says: "For generations, the Great Northern Empire of The Americas remained unchallenged. The mock elegance of an elite aristocracy in the illusion of comfort, they provided conjured a medieval-like feudalism from within the ruins of societal collapse.

"But now, from the distant village of Ravenskill, a magnificent power threatens the false tranquility enforced by the ever-watchful Nomacs. A literal force stirs the people and the heavens, threatening the very deepest of slumbers with the awakening power of artistic expression." Watch the trailer here.

Mastodon Working On New Album(Prog)

Mastodon have revealed that they're about to start writing their seventh album and discussed the 'healing power' of music. In an interview with LiveNation, drummer Brann Dailor reveals that writing sessions for the follow-up to 2014's Once More 'Round The Sun are due to begin shortly.
He says: "We're about to go into writing. With a new record looming, I just want to be able to do something different and not be stagnant with my playing. Every new album is another opportunity to do more better. Because we should do more better, shouldn't we?"

Guitarist Bill Kelliher adds that one of the most satisfying things about being a musician is learning that their work can sometimes help people who are in distress. And he says music has also helped him to deal with issues, including his mother's recent cancer diagnosis.

Kelliher says: "I've got so many emails from people, and it seems like we've done a lot more healing with a lot of our records. How much better a compliment can it be that you are actually helping someone who's hurting.

"My mom has terminal cancer and I just found out. When I'm on stage every night her image goes through my head and I play and say,' I'm doing this for her. I'm gonna make her proud.'

"Music is healing. It's healed me. I've been in dark, deep places and I've put a record on and, I might no know what they're saying, but they're talking to me. It's like 100 Band Aids all over your body." Watch the full interview here.

"This recording feels like a little 'lost diamond' that has been found in a cave, but we've polished it and rediscovered its original beauty. It's a lovely piece of history." Check out the album stream here.

KISS Look Back At Destroyer 40 Years Later

KISS cofounders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and producer Bob Ezrin have taken a look back at their landmark album "Destroyer", which celebrated its 40th anniversary this week.
Simmons had the following reflection (via BraveWords): "Destroyer was ultimately a major leap forward for us because of Bob Ezrin. We were basically a garage band. We were just knuckleheads, guys who turn it up to 11 just because we can. We didn't know anything. We could barely tune our guitars. Before Destroyer, we just did what we did: We played, we wrote songs up to the level of our musicianship, and that was about it."

Paul Stanley said, "Preproduction consisted of us sitting in a circle, and Bob would say, 'Who's got an interesting piece of music?' And someone would play something, and he'd say, 'No,' and someone else would play something. Ultimately, he would say, 'I like that, who's got a piece to go with that?' Some of the songs were pieced together like that. Other times, someone might come in with a song, and Bob would fine-tune it.

Legendary producer Bob Ezrin added, "Many people have asked me who the studio guys were that I used on Destroyer, and I have to say to them, they were Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. They played that well on that record. The key to this record was we really rehearsed a lot, and we really knew the material. So by the time they got to the studio, it was just about getting a great performance."

Brian 'Head' Welch's Love And Death Stream New Song(TeamRock Radio)

Brian 'Head' Welch's band Love And Death have released a stream of their song Lo Lamento. The Korn guitarist and Love And Death vocalist also announced that the track will be available as a free download for everyone who pre-orders his book, With My Eyes Wide Open: Miracles And Mistakes On My Way Back To Korn, via his official webstore. It's due out on May 17.
He tells Loudwire: "Lo Lamento is a song that came from an idea producer Jasen Rauch and writer Mark Holeman had on our last album, Between Here And Lost. It was actually the original chorus for our song I W8 4 U, but it sounded way too melodic for that crushing song, as you can imagine.

"To me, Lo Lamento paints a picture lyrically about infidelity and a once picture perfect relationship left in ruins." Check out the stream of the new song here.

In additon to some background music, Roth also delivered a version of John Brim's "ice Cream Man" with some new lyrics for the occasion.

The Cadillac Three have a string of dates in North America starting this month, with an appearance at Ramblin' Man Fair in the UK also on the cards. Watch the video here.

Nirvana Nevermind Producer Reflects On Kurt Cobain's Mood Swings(Classic Rock)

Nevermind producer Butch Vig has told of Kurt Cobain's mood swings in a discussion about upcoming documentary about Smart Studios. The Smart Studios Story is set to be screened at a string of film festivals in the coming months and premieres this week at South By Southwest.
A new trailer features members of Nirvana and L7 talking about the studio's impact on the music scene in the 90s. And in an interview with Billboard, Vig recalls the sometimes tense moments in the studio as Nirvana recorded the 1991 smash hit record.

He says: "There were moments that were hard. Kurt would have intense mood swings and just shut down. He would just go sit in a corner and disappear into his own space.

"Krist Novoselic would say, 'He just goes into these moods and he'll come out in a while.' So we'd find something to do for a couple hours, tweak the drums or work on bass sounds, and all of a sudden Kurt would pick up his guitar, 'Let's go.' He'd be back, fully engaged. I just had to gauge when the timing was right to go for takes."

Baroness Address Fan Sexual Assault Allegation(Classic Rock)

Baroness have slammed a fan who allegedly sexually assaulted another gig-goer at their recent show in Birmingham. The band have reacted to a blog post by writer Rosie Solomon who says a man subjected her to a sustained assault at the city's O2 Institute on February 29.
Solomon says she was left feeling "shaken, angry, upset, confused" by the incident, in which a man deliberately and repeatedly thrust his groin into her leg and made a suggestive comment, before she tried to report him to security staff.

In a statement, Baroness say: "The man detailed in this article, whoever you are, if you read this post, stay the f*** away from Baroness and our audience. We don't need you at our show, we don't want you in our audience.

"We have no tolerance for sexism, or any form of intolerant or insensitive behavior. In Baroness' real, functioning touring-world, we are witness to daily proof-by-example that gender exerts no weight on the scales of capability, strength or intelligence.

"Additionally, we are extremely sensitive to the gender-disparity that can exist, especially within the world of rock and metal music and we are embarrassed and disturbed that Rosie, or anyone, for that matter, could have had such a terrible experience at one of our shows." Read their full statement here.

Roth recently made headlines with the release of a new song, "Ain't No Christmas", as speculation in some corners of the internet continues about his future with Van Halen.

The Resistance And Jesper Stromblad Part Ways(TeamRock Radio)

Guitarist Jesper Stromblad has left The Resistance - the band he helped form in 2011. But he and band have offered conflicting statements about why he left the group.
The Resistance announced the guitarist's departure, saying: "It's been a long time coming with a lots of ups-and-downs regarding Jesper and his struggle with depression. We all thought we could ride out this storm, but sometimes all things have to come to an end.

"We part ways on friendly terms and don't want any bad blood. To be honest, this has been really painful. After taking time to consider how to move forward, we ultimately found that we really do believe The Resistance can and should continue on. And so we will."

But Stromblad, who previously spoke out about his 20-year battle with depression and anxiety, has issued a counter-statement that disputes his former bandmates' version of the split.

He says he did quit the band, but adds: "I was not aware that depression was the reason. I totally admit that I'm an alcoholic and the band suffered a lot for that, but stuff happened during that time that changed my mind about lot and the direction I personally wanted to go." Read more here.

In the first installment the late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman share stories of his upbringing, and getting his start as a musician in Southern California.

"Probably the first band that really grabbed me was the Beatles. My father was a huge music fan. He turned me on to the Doors, he turned me on to Merle Haggard, he turned me on to the Beatles. His record collection was amazing. He was a huge influence on me," said Weiland during the interview, which took place at Lavish Studios, Scott's recording studio in Burbank, CA. Frontman Andy Cairns says: "There's a Samuel Beckett influence on Tides. I used to live near the harbour in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. I'd sometimes stay up all night to try to get inspiration for songs and often ended up going down to the pier and just look out at the waves. Later on, I found out that Beckett used to get a great deal of influence from that as well. I took that low point in my life and how I managed to dig myself out of it as an inspiration.

"The spark that lit the idea was a quote from his play Krapp's Last Tape," he adds. "It goes, 'Spiritually a year of profound gloom and indulgence until that memorable night in March, at the end of the jetty, in the howling wind, never to be forgotten, when I suddenly saw the whole thing. The vision at last… the fire that set me alight.' The idea was fortified after listening to Standing By The Sea by Hüsker Dü from their 1984 masterpiece, Zen Arcade." Watch the video here.

"The Limits are the most fabulous musicians - but when it comes to acting I don't think we'll be bothering the Oscars. When the director shouts, 'OK pretend you're dying in agony,' it's hard not to burst out laughing - especially with the rest of the band watching. Look out for the smirks of pain in the video." He told TeamRock Radio: "At first we were like, okay, this is probably the stupidest thing that's ever happened to us. I used to put a needle in my arm, so if I want to have a beer I think I'm entitled to be able to respect myself.

"They're calling my band enablers and all this sh*t. Those people have literally been here since the moment I started this band and have kept me clean." See the dates here.

Butcher Babies Still Poor Despite Success(TeamRock Radio)

Butcher Babies say their success hasn't yet led them to financial security. The band released second album Take It Like A Man last year and launch a European tour in April. But worldwide recognition doesn't always equate to money in the bank, according to vocalists Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey.
Asked if there have been any disappointments in the band's career, Shepherd tells Rise To Offend: "To be able to go out and live my dream and be a metal singer, how can that be in any way, shape or form disappointing. You know, I think the only disappointing thing is that we're poor as sh*t."

Harvey adds: "There's a whole misconception if you're a signed band, and you tour the world, and you have a lot of fans coming to shows, all of a sudden you're making a ton of money. That's just not the truth." Listen to the full interview here.

Singled Out: Night Lights' Take My HandNight

Lights frontman Mau Jimenez tells us about their single "Take My Hand" which is one of a series of singles the indie rock group plan to release this year. Here is the story:
I wrote the lyrics to "Take My Hand" at a time when I was desperate for change. I think I realized that people from our generation are discovering something inside of them doesn't quite fit with the world around us as it is. We're all unsatisfied because we have been tasked with discovering purpose in a world that doesn't sustain the dreams that call us. It hit me very hard towards the end of my college career. I didn't know what my purpose was, and I for sure didn't want to get stuck making money so I could spend my life. So I started soul searching, and mind you, I still am soul searching, but I came to some powerful realizations. I realized that if I did anything for my own sake, that it was pretty pointless. Like if I just did life for the sake of me and what I could gain from things, I'd turn up empty. So, I started putting my theory to the test and paying more attention to friends, to random people, and to my surroundings, and the more I extended a hand, the more I found the people around me were saving me from my depression and concurrently I from theirs.

So this song is kind of an ode to all the people whom have extended their hands to me, and whom are relentless in loving, forgiving, and embracing someone else in spite of all the crap they carry. As a band, were all hoping that the song inspires and reminds people of the importance of selflessness and how selflessness may in turn lead to self discovery and appreciation.

Jimmy Page Defends Himself In 'Stairway To Heaven' Lawsuit(Classic Rock)

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has defended himself against the claim that he based Stairway To Heaven on Spirit track Taurus by saying he first heard the other band's piece in 2014.
And although he's admitted to finding a copy of the 1968 record in his collection, he insists that he'd never listened to it. Spirit released Taurus three years before Led Zep launched Stairway, after the bands had toured the US together. Spirit bassist Mark Andes launched legal action two years ago, saying he wanted recognition for the work of late guitarist Randy California.

Page said in a California court declaration last week: "Prior to hearing a recording of Taurus in 2014 in connection with this matter, I have never heard Taurus or even heard of it. I am very good at remembering music and am absolutely certain that I never heard Taurus' until 2014."

He admitted to having a copy of the record, but added: "I had not previously seen it in my collection and do not know how or when it got there. It may well have been left by a guest. I doubt it was there for long, since I never noticed it before. But, again, I know I did not hear Taurus until 2014." Read more here.

David Bowie's 'InstaMiniSeries' Premieres Online(Radio.com)

Before he released his final album Blackstar, David Bowie made the music available to a creative team at Instagram so they could use it for their burgeoning video series InstaMiniSeries. Now the first episode of UNBOUND: A … InstaMiniSeries. is available, and you can watch it via the platform's channel @instaminiseries.
Per the platform's video limitations, the episode is only 15 seconds long. The camera tracks across a darkly-lit library, revealing a cast of characters: A man gets a book off the shelf, a woman stirs her tea, a young boy plays with a toy truck and a woman in red completes a needlepoint, among other persons in the room.

The series is meant to visually narrate Bowie's album, rather than present a linear, more traditional narrative. To that end, the first episode's dark, brooding feel but communal spirit sets an interesting tone. Watch the first episode here.

Former Deep Purple Singer Speaks Out About Rock Hall Drama(hennemusic)

Former Deep Purple lead singer Joe Lynn Turner says that the band's upcoming induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has become a circus show.
Turner has some rare insight into the situation given his work with both Deep Purple - he recorded 1990's "Slaves And Masters" with the group during his three-year tenure with the band - and his years with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in Rainbow.

The vocalist is sharing his thoughts on the April 8 event at New York's Barclays Center that sees Deep Purple's current lineup refusing to perform with former members including Blackmore - who has now decided not to attend.

"If he comes, Ian Gillan and the rest of the band won't come," Turner tells Rock Overdose. "If you ask me, they're acting like children and it's a mess and a shameful situation. It's terrible that it happened. For me, it shows you exactly what is happening over there. That these people don't know how to grow up and be friends. Just stop the bullsh*t. It's a shame and it makes a circus out of the whole thing.

"I made a statement on my Facebook that describes how I feel about the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, as I call it. They have no idea who is who, what is what. It's a Hollywood event, and it really has not much to do with Rock and Roll anymore. It's more of a celebrity event."

"In the early days it was a true rock and roll organization. But now, it is turning into a circus show," Turner adds. "It's more like Grammys or something stupid like that. It took them how long to put Deep Purple into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It should have been in the Hall Of Fame 25 years ago." Read more here.

Rare Beatles Record Set To Be Auctioned(Classic Rock)

A rare Beatles 10-inch record is to go under the hammer after it was discovered in a loft. The vinyl featuring the tracks Till There Was You and Hello Little Girl has been in the possession of Gerry And The Pacemakers pianist Les Maguire for over 50 years after The Fab Four's manager Brian Epstein gave him the disc in 1963.
It was made at London's HMV store on Oxford Street and given to producer George Martin at EMI in a bid to secure a record deal for the band in the early 60s. It features Epstein's handwriting, with Maguire reporting it was the disc "that sparked the Beatles' success."

Maguire tells the BBC: "I've never been a big fan of memorabilia, but people seem to like it. It's no good to me so I've given it to my granddaughter, who is hoping to buy a house after passing her accountancy exams." Read more here.

Corey Taylor Reassures Fans He Is Not Quitting Slipknot(TeamRock Radio)

Corey Taylor has moved to clarify comments he made regarding his future with Slipknot. The vocalist told BBC Radio 1's Daniel P Carter that he "might step away from Slipknot at some point, just because the way the music is, that energy, I don't know if I could do that into my 50s.
"I would never want the band to feel like I was holding them back because I couldn't physically do it. I wouldn't completely quit music - I'd probably just step away from Slipknot."

But after his comments were reported, he issued a statement on Twitter reassuring fans that he wasn't going anywhere. He says: "I'm not quitting Slipknot. Listen to and read interviews - in context not out. I talk about time off. This is why I dislike 'cut n' paste' journos." Read more here.

"I just didn't agree with a lot of the decisions and where we were going, and that's fine - that's part of life. You don't have to agree with everything. I wish them the best of luck." Watch the videos here.

He tells Iron City Rocks: "We hit it off as people really well, and Lemmy was impressed with me." Lips says Motorhead's management approached him to replace Eddie Clark on tour in 1982. But he turned down the offer, saying the band were in the middle of writing Forged In Fire and were under contract to finish the album.

He adds: "I couldn't be in two places at once. It wasn't possible to do it. I don't regret the decision and at the end of the day, Lemmy really respected the fact that I stuck to my guns, which was his main philosophy. He just thought, 'You'd fit in with me no problem, because we're from the same tree, the same branch.'" Read more here.

Midnight Mob Release 'Swing On' Video(Classic Rock)

Midnight Mob have released a video for their song Swing On. It's taken from the band's new EP, Honest Brutal Glorious, the follow-up to 2014's full-length album These Days.
The band describe themselves as existing at the "the intersection of punk, metal, blues, and soul," and feature Blackey Deathproof on vocals, guitarist Mickey Squeeze, bassist Carly Quinn, and drummer Beatz.

"Swing On is about braving the process of dropping all your vices and false beliefs you have about yourself to become the person you're meant to be," says Blackey. "The director, Jarett Bellucci, wanted to express that idea through telling a story about "me" trying to physically write the song.

"I start off checking into the hotel on a snowy night with nothing but frantic frustration and a heavy heart. I know I have to let go of something. I know I have to break down walls to get where I need to be and ultimately step into my purpose.

"Jarett decided to depict this through having Midnight Mob rocking out next door to the version of me that's trying desperately to get out what I need to get out on paper. I eventually get into the motel room next door and see myself rocking out... here I find my purpose and step up to take my place at the mic." Watch the video here.

Singled Out: Kinky Rhino's Garage Roque (Blue Man Group)

Jeff Wright of Kinky Rhino (the 'dirty rock n' roll side project' from members of the Blue Man Group) tells us about their new single, "Garage Roque," from their self-titled EP (out April 29th). Here is the story:
"Garage Roque" is Kinky Rhino's first single from our upcoming debut EP. Furthermore, it is the first song I have written that has ever been released to the public, and I have been dreaming of doing this for nearly 20 years. I remember watching classmates of mine cover Nirvana's Aneurysm when I was in 6th or 7th grade, and I have wanted to do nothing but play rock music ever since. I have no idea where those kids learned to play, or how in the hell they were cool enough to play Nirvana at that age, but we were not cut of the same cloth, I needed serious help. I enrolled in my school's music program, but it offered no guitar instruction so it made sense that I became engulfed in the world of percussion. Throughout school I played drums in rock bands, symphonic bands, jazz ensembles, drum corps, and every other scenario I possibly could, eventually leading to my current gig with Blue Man Group.

I've been working for BMG for nearly ten years now and it's been an amazing experience, but all this time I've still just wanted what those kids had in middle school: pure rock and roll. So, last year, while on a break from touring, I set out to start writing music that the rest of the touring BMG band and I could play at clubs after work. I immediately became completely engulfed in this project. I spent every waking hour slaving over the songs. I was blowing off friends I hadn't seen for months and spending two days at a time locked in a rented rehearsal space because I could not stop, I had to get it done before it was time to hit the road again or I would never forgive myself.

The result is a 5-song self-titled EP on which I played every instrument and sang every word. After so many years of being someone else's drummer, I was finally realizing my dream. I had spent years thinking that I didn't have "the gift" or something. I thought I was a drummer and that was that, but I knew deep down that I wanted to create something on my own, I did not want to play other people's music forever. Drumming is fun, it is rewarding, and I'm not trying to put it down in anyway, it is the foundation of who I am, especially as a musician; but I've needed to start this band since I was 12, and I have finally done it.

At it's core, Kinky Rhino is my solo project, and it will remain that way for the time being. I would eventually like to find a solid lineup, but that's tough to even consider while knowing that the tour I am on with Blue Man is going to end and that the current lineup will have to go our separate ways. There are major upsides though… The situation I have found myself in gives me complete control of the band. Obviously, I defer to the other guys about things that affect us on a day to day basis, but in the big picture I am the boss. I can make decisions without having to call a band meeting, I can write this blog without having to get their approval on what I'm rambling about, and I can write the songs that I want to write. This newf-ound strength, and the life changes I have gone through making this debut EP, are what the first single is all about.

The lyrics in the chorus of "Garage Roque" basically state that I don't know where I'm going, but I do know that I'm never coming back. This is exactly how I feel, and this is exactly why I chose it to be the first single. I have never played guitar in a band, and I've never been a lead singer, but I like it and I'm going to keep going, I am changed. I spent way too long doubting myself, to a point where I may be too old to find any success outside of playing drums, but this is how it's going to be from now on, I'm just going to keep going. "Garage Roque" is a song that was written about the process of breaking free that was needed in order to create it in the first place. It's a song about itself.
