EDDIE MONEY IS NEW MORNING SHOW HOST FOR THE RIVER:

From: blogs.ajc.com/radio-tv-talk/2011/10/06/eddie-money-new-morning-show-host-for-the-river
"Imagine when he does the two tickets to paradise giveaway. Classic rocker Eddie Money has been tapped to do mornings on The River 97.1 starting Monday at 6 a.m. The guy behind such radio classics as Take Me Home Tonight, Baby Hold On and Think I'm in Love will record the majority of his shows from his home in Los Angeles, but will come to Atlanta periodically. Money was in town last week to lay down a couple days worth of Money in the Morning shows. Cagle, program director at The River, said the station wanted to make a big splash and started thinking about different artists who might make a good radio host. A friend of Cagle's who knew Money approached him in Los Angeles and asked how he felt about doing radio. Money bit, and will now host a weekday show from 6-9 a.m.
He's got a natural knack, said Cagle. He loves to talk, he tells some great stories and has great information that people would never hear otherwise about being on tour with Led Zeppelin, being on the road with the Eagles, those kinds of things. As this is Money's first foray into radio, Cagle will serve as a coach, listening to Money's recordings and providing advice. The show won't air live at least at first while Money settles in. Keep an ear out for announcements about Money making some appearances in Atlanta to promote Money in the Morning.

Metal Star Impersonator Tried To Kill Girl
(Banana 101.5) After a full fledged on-stage brawl at Bring Me the Horizon's show in Salt Lake City this week, A man impersonating singer Oli Sykes allegedly lured a girl from America to Britain and then tried to kill her.

According to UK newspaper 'Daily Mail', David Russell has been jailed for life after attempting to murder a 19-year old Maricar Benedicto. Russell met the American teen on Facebook last year, claiming that he was BMTH vocalist Oli Sykes.

After ongoing communication via the internet, Benedicto flew from California to the UK to see him. Shortly after she arrived, Russell took her to a forest and convinced her to wear a blindfold claiming he had a gift for her. "Gift" must carry a different meaning overseas — Russell then slit her throat, stabbed her in the back four times, headbutted and hit her in the face with a log. more on this story

New Queen Singer Options Include Lady Gaga and TV Show
(hennemusic) Queen's "Radio Ga Ga" might turn out to be more than just a song, if guitarist Brian May has his way. The Daily Express reports Queen are in talks with Lady Gaga to work with the pop star, and maybe even tour together.

At the London BMI Awards Tuesday, where Queen were honored with the Icon Award, May spoke about where the legendary band might be headed. "We talk about going out on the road all the time, but there's a bit of a singer problem, to put it mildly," said May. "We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she's very creative, and is someone we've talked about singing, fronting the band with. She's not just a singer, she writes her own material."

He also said that 25-year-old Gaga isn't the only person he has considered. "We have talked about doing duets with other people and, in a strange way, I almost pressed the yes button. We were debating the idea of a TV show where we have all these guest stars. We didn't press it, today, but we are still looking at it. Lady Gaga has said she would like to do something with us." more on this story

McCartney: The Beatles Would Have Reunited
(Gibson) The Beatles parted ways in 1969 amid fatigue, conflict and even some bitterness, leaving behind a legacy of the most celebrated musical enterprise in rock and roll history. Thankfully, the guys patched things up in the 1970s, and had all of the members survived a bit longer, Paul McCartney says, eventually, the band would have properly reunited.

"If John [Lennon] and George [Harrison] were still here, it's highly likely we would've had a Beatles reunion," Sir McCartney told the Daily Express, "I think we would've mellowed to the point where we would've said, 'Come on, let's do it.'

"The thing was whenever we got together, no matter if we were arguing, we played great," the 69-year-old added. "We knew each other so well; we read each other… It would've been great, but I'm not a great believer in 'What if?' You can't do it, but I suppose it's nice to speculate." more on this story

Kurt Cobain Attempted Suicide Several Times
(Banana 101.5) Courtney Love may be trying to stir up some buzz for her forthcoming tell-all memoir, but in a recent interview she claims Kurt Cobain attempted to kill himself a few times before succeeding.

Hole vocalist Courtney Love and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain shared three years together and gave birth to a daughter before the troubled icon took his own life. It's not a big jump in reasoning to assume that Love saw an entirely different side of Cobain that few (maybe no) others knew.

It was recently announced that Courtney would be writing a tell-all memoir that would "set the record straight" about Cobain. In her new interview with Vanity Fair, the outspoken singer-actress started the aforementioned "record straightening" a little early. When asked if she was angry at Kurt for taking his life.... read her reply here

More Guns N' Roses Reunion Talk
(hennemusic) Gilby Clarke was doing an audience Q&A last weekend at Rockmässan in Malmö, Sweden, when the subject of a Guns N' Roses reunion came up.

"I've always said if it's really a real reunion where Slash is involved, then I would do it, but I probably feel the same that you guys feel," Gilby replied.

"I think most people wanna see the original five [members] — with Izzy [Stradlin, guitar] and Steven [Adler, drums] — and I agree; that was a great band. But if they want other people — myself and Matt [Sorum, drums], then I would do it. But I would only do it if Slash was involved." more on this story

Judas Priest Already Have New Songs Ready
(hennemusic) With one head in the present, Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford is also looking forward to the band's next album.

"I think one of the things that we seriously considered was how to maintain the longevity of Priest, and one of the ways of doing that is just to cut back a little bit on these intense tours that we do," Halford tells SoundSpike. "We're still going to stay focused on recording and writing new songs; as you may have heard we have a new album coming out sometime next year."

Throwdown Recruit Bleeding Through and Demon Hunter Members for Tour
Throwdown have announced their band lineup for the upcoming Brawloween tour that will feature from Carnifex, First Blood, and Suffokate

Throwdown's touring lineup for the trek will feature Dave Peters (vocals) (Throwdown 2000 - present), Mark Mitchell (bass) (Throwdown 2007 - present), Davie Nassie (guitar) (Bleeding Through / ex-No Use For A Name) and Tim "Yogi" Watts (drums) (Demon Hunter, ex-The Showdown).

Frontman Dave Peters had this to say: "I can't say I love having a chronically fragmented lineup for Throwdown, but it does leave the door open for cool opportunities like this. I'm VERY happy to be playing these shows with Yogi and Nassie as 'special guests' or whatever you want to call them under the circumstances. They're great guys and equally great musicians. It will be a cool thing for fans of the three bands too, as it's hard to say if or when we'd share a stage in the future. The only drawback is running the risk of them setting the sound bar too high for the next time we play in our backyard". more on this story

Singled Out: Glyder's Don't Make Their Mistakes
Today Jackie Robinson from Glyder tells us about "Don't Make Their Mistakes" from their forthcoming album "Backroads to Byzantium," which is set to hit stores on October 25th. Here is the story:

It was a really difficult decision for me to single out one track; I love each song on the album for different reasons. Our new album "Backroads to Byzantium" has quite a bit of variety, it definitely rocks but I feel there is more to it than just that.

The song I'd like to talk about is "Don't Make Their Mistakes". This is one of the tracks off the album that holds personal significance for me; the subject matter regards the issue that has affected so many people in Northern Ireland. Regardless of what some people would like you to believe, the religious/political divide is still firmly in place. I know this is old news; the worrying thing is though that it seems to be getting worse, I see more unjust hatred in the youth now than I've ever seen before. So many kids are being bombarded by bigoted and prejudiced narrow-minded views from their parents; the religious segregation of some of our communities does nothing to stop this perpetuating either. Thankfully I was lucky enough to grow up in a family that didn't express those views, and I was allowed to form opinions for myself. It's seems crazy to me that this kind of sectarianism still exists today, even crazier that known terrorists are allowed to have political control. My family and friends have been directly affected by the "troubles"; they have affected the lives of so many decent people. If no one acts and things stay the way they are then this madness will just keep continuing. I'm under no illusions of my control of this situation (which is none), but maybe if this song helps to change one persons view then I've done a little good.

Due to the geographical distance between the members of the band now, we had to take a slightly different approach to the way we went about writing the songs for this album. We had to work on the songs using home recording software sending our ideas back and forth via email; you can watch a short documentary about how we made the album on Youtube. (Glyder- writing for "Backroads to Byzantium").

"Don't Make Their Mistakes" kicks off with a short ominous bass intro before your hit by the riffing guitars, and driving force of the drums. The vocals come in around the 20second mark with real grit and authority (if I do say so myself ha-ha). You will hear a heart filled vocal, with lots of emotion. You will not hear an angst filled performance as we're not a metal band, and it wouldn't suit the track. The tone and mood of the song is set by this point. Then it comes to the catchy chorus and bridge, before you come to the soaring guitar solo.

This track and a couple of others on the album are a bit of a departure from the original line-up sound, but due to great twin guitar work of Bat and Pete you still know its Glyder. "Don't Make Their Mistakes" is a great rockin song, that like the rest of the album you'll find hard to get out of your head!

Glyder are back on a new journey, will you follow us??

In their cold Swedish environment, the band members wanted to share some colorfulness that could be spread throughout the people. But when every stage had a smoke machine it wasn't that easy to reach out. Though with a little bit of creative playfulness and a lot of hugs the band has since succeeded to find a mixture of loving warmth and energetic frustration that seems to be able to reach out to almost anyone. more on this story

Michael Jackson Estate Loans Katherine Jackson Six Million Dollars
(TMZ) Katherine Jackson the Six Million Dollar Mama -- because the Michael Jackson Estate just loaned her that amount to pay off her settlement with a South Korean newspaper.

According to an order entered by the court -- the Estate is giving Katherine the $6 mill to help her wrap up a 17-year old lawsuit filed against her by the Segye Times.

The paper originally won a $4 million judgment against Katherine and others for failing to deliver on a promised Jackson family concert -- but with interest she would owe more than $14 million.

Katherine's attorneys and the paper agreed on a settlement of $6 million -- which clearly she couldn't pay without help from the Estate.

There are strings attached -- according to court docs, Katherine must repay the full amount to the Estate, plus interest, within one year. But check this out -- she got a hell of a deal -- the interest rate is only .16%.

Woman Accuses Pawn Stars Expert of Choking Attempt and Death Threat
(TMZ) The Las Vegas toy expert often featured on "Pawn Stars" has been named in a police report -- by a woman who claims Johnny Jiminez choked her and held a knife against her throat ... and she tells us, he also threatened to kill her.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Las Vegas Metro PD received a call from a woman claiming to be Johnny's girlfriend. The woman says she had been in an intense verbal argument with Johnny at his home ... when things escalated and Johnny got physical.

We're told the argument began when Johnny accused the woman of stealing $1,000 from him.

The woman told police Johnny choked her pretty hard -- leaving several marks around her neck and chest. The woman also claims Johnny grabbed a knife at some point in the argument and held it against her throat.

TMZ spoke to the alleged victim who tells us ... Johnny was threatening to kill her during the argument and she feared for her life when Johnny put the knife against her throat.

We're told the woman met with police after the incident -- and filed a formal complaint. An ambulance was also called to check out her injuries.

Police are investigating the incident -- and we're told cops would like to speak with Jiminez ASAP.

TMZ spoke with a staffer at Johnny's toy shop, who tells us the woman was Johnny's housekeeper -- not his girlfriend.

The alleged victim insists she and Johnny have been dating since March -- and claims she was only cleaning his home as a favor.

Steve Jobs RIP
We are sad to report that the visionary cofounder of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs, died Wednesday after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. He was 56. Here is our tribute to the man and his legacy:

Steve Jobs' impact on modern society can not be understated. He may not have invented the internet, but he helped make it possible. Jobs helped usher in the age of personal computing by first seeing the potential of his friend Steve Wozniak's homemade computer and helping to create the first mass-market personal computer with the Apple II.

It was a visit to Xerox PARC where Steve's dream of something "Insanely Great" was first sparked. It was on that visit that Jobs was exposed to three technologies which dominate computing today: object oriented programming, Ethernet and a revolutionary new way of computing... the Graphical User Interface (GUI). more on this story

Why Anthrax Ditched Their Singer
(hennemusic) In a new interview with Guitar World, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and guitarist Scott Ian shed some light on the abrupt 2009 resignation/firing of singer Dan Nelson, after he spent less than two years with the band. At the time, the group issued a press release stating Nelson's departure was 'due to illness', and that upcoming tour dates were cancelled.

Nelson fired back online with a statement of his own: "It was the other band members' decision to cancel the tour dates, not mine. I was ready, willing and able to do my job. After issuing the press release, the other band members decided, on their own accord, that I had 'resigned' from the band. I never resigned from the band."

Until now, Anthrax have chosen not to elaborate on what went down.... According to Ian, "(Nelson's) words were, 'I quit. I'm not doing this. Don't come to my house. Don't try and talk me out of this.' Again. Because that wasn't the first time he had quit Anthrax; it was the third time. But that was his M.O. He would quit, and then he would make a bunch of demands on us, and we would cave and he would come back."

"First show we did with him, backstage, big argument, big blowout," added Benante. "It was unbelievable. And from that moment we should have known. And all along, he just kept pulling weird s**t. Like, he would call me and not tell the other guys, or call one of them and not tell the rest of us, and just talk s**t." more on this story

Billy Corgan Refutes Smashing Pumpkins Break-Up Reports
(Banana 101.5) Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan explains an ominous statement he made last week about the band's fate being tied to the success of their new album 'Oceania'.

Most reports on the interview with Billboard cited his comments as a dark cloud over the future of the band. Corgan recently did some clarifying in an interview with Crestfallen.com:

"I would say those reports are irresponsible. We are very happy together as a band and as friends, and there are no plans to disband, nor any discussions about disbanding. My point was if Oceania is not well received, it would be time to change our focus as a band. I have plenty of projects that have been sitting on the shelf for a while that I'd be more than happy for us to get into. That said, Oceania is a record we are very proud of and we hope people feel about it as strongly as we do." more on this story

Avenged Sevenfold Was The Beginning of Portnoy's End in Dream Theater
(hennemusic) The Mike Portnoy situation is a topic Dream Theater will likely have to address for some time to come, and guitarist John Petrucci does just that in a new interview with Guitar World. One of the first signs of an issue with Portnoy was the drummer's plan to tour with Avenged Sevenfold at a time when Dream Theater were planning to record.

"Mike had played on Avenged's album ['Nightmare'] and that was fine," explains Petrucci. "We all do side projects when time permits. But touring with the band, that was a different story. That was taking significant time away from Dream Theater at a point when we were all planning to start recording. Initially, we put off recording to go on tour with Iron Maiden — that was too good an opportunity for us to turn down. And then when Mike said he was going on the road with Avenged Sevenfold right after the Maiden tour, that didn't feel right."

Portnoy then asked DT to take an extended hiatus, with no timeline to regroup. "In the end, it was something we couldn't do," says John. "Mike wanted to hold all the cards. He wanted to get back together when it suited him. We couldn't abide by that. So he decided to quit. It was quite a blow. As much as we wanted to continue as a band, we didn't want Mike to leave."

Singled Out: Hierosonic's The Media Taught You That
Hierosonic kick off a their tour with Seven Day Sonnet on October 7th and to celebrate we asked frontman Ben Stewart to tell us about their new single "The Media Taught You That" from their latest album 'Consciousness, Fame, God, Money, Power' .

Hierosonic's single 'The Media Taught You That' is a modern exploitation of a timeless cultural symbol. The media reflects exactly what mass psychology craves. Wars as entertainment, lies as collective denial, truth only when it suits our self image and everything under the sun that dies will make the front page. In no way shape or form does the song portray the media as a negative or positive force in our culture. Only as the television's representation of the condition of our mind.

Even the term "media" is a symbol of the medium between reality and our belief systems. Both of which are polar opposites. Hierosonic's inspiration for 'the Media Taught You That' comes from their curiosity about what constitutes our truth as a global society.

The chorus drives home the mantra "We are the free, the land of hopes and dreams", countered by telling us that the world is going to end. Yet again, we hear in the chorus "The world is full of lies, so don't open your eyes", because as always the masses crave excitement, death, disease, and trials to overcome. Therefore the last line of the song screams, "The world is going to end tonight", for the media taught you that.
