Today's Day in Rock

Original Guns N' Roses Members Record New Song
(hennemusic) Duff McKagan has revealed that he and his former original Guns N' Roses bandmate Izzy Stradlin hooked up to record a new song in the studio last month.

McKagan first shared word that he was recording on his 51st birthday on February 5 with Stradlin and his longtime drummer Taz Bentley, tweeting "Spent the first part of my birthday with @tazbentley and Izzy...rocking!"

Now, McKagan shares more details in a new interview with Argentina's Vorterix. "[Izzy and I] recorded a song that day," says the bassist. "We were talking on the phone, and he said, 'Let's go record a song.' And we used Josh [Homme] from Queens of the Stone Age's studio; it was open.

"So we just went it - Izzy and I and Taz - and just had a blast. We recorded a song. I have it. It just got mixed. It's a super kick-ass song. And we just had fun, and we'll probably do it some more."

"We've always kind of done [stuff like that], but usually on his records," McKagan continues. "This was just like this open thing. And I had a riff, and he had an idea, and we recorded it in half a day." Read more and see a photo here.

Blink-182's Travis Barker Not Angry At 'Childish' Tom DeLonge
(TeamRock Radio) Travis Barker insists he is not angry with Blink-182's estranged frontman Tom DeLonge - but he feels the singer's actions are "childish." DeLonge walked away from the band in January, leading his former colleagues to bring in Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba for the Musink festival on March 22. They last week confirmed Skiba would also play with them on March 20 in San Diego.

Barker tells Yahoo: "I'm in no way, shape, or form mad at him. If anything, I just wish he would own up to not wanting to be in the band and go do his other stuff.

"There's a sympathy card he's pulling right now. And that doesn't even really piss me off, it's just kind of childish. But if years down the line it makes sense, I'll never say never."

The drummer says he changed his attitude to such situations after surviving the 2008 plane crash that killed four others. Read more here.

The Offspring's Smash Producer Thom Wilson Dies
Thom Wilson, who produced The Offspring's first three albums including their multi-platinum album "Smash," died on February 8th, according to Epitaph Records.

A cause of death has not been revealed. In addition to the six-times platinum "Smash," Wilson also produced albums for T.S.O.L., Bouncing Souls, Iggy Pop, Dead Kennedys, The Aquabats, D.I., The Vandals, and more.

Epitaph CEO and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz had the following to say in a statement, "In '82 when I was just getting started Thom Wilson was a guy all the bands in the scene looked up to.

"He was the pro in our midst who loved punk and was willing to take kids under his wing to help them sound great. His work with TSOL and The Adolescents set the bar for everything that came after, including The Offspring's multi-platinum LP Smash, which was the best-selling independent release of all time. Thom was a friend, a teacher, and a great producer. He'll be missed."

Skinless Classic Lineup Releasing New Album
Skinless have announced that they will be releasing their new album, "Only The Ruthless Remain", the group's first new studio effort in almost a decade, in June.

The album follows 2006's "Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead" and will be released in various formats including digitally, CD and vinyl LP on June 2nd in North America, June 1st in the UK and the various countries in the EU and May 29th in Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg), Finland, and Germany.

"Only The Ruthless Remain" was produced by Tom Case by the classic lineup of the band: vocalist Sherwood Webber, guitarist Noah Carpenter, bassist Joe Keyser, drummer Bob Beaulac, as well as guitarist Dave Matthews.

The group has also announced appearances at this year's Maryland Deathfest on May 21st and the 2015 Hellfest in France on June 21st, with additional lives dates to be announced soon.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Announce Live Release
(Classic Rock) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are to release a DVD of their 2014 show in Paris. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Live In Paris is issued on May 4th in the UK and May 12th in North America.

It was recorded at the Theatre Trianon on February 24, 2014, during BRMC's sold-out tour of Europe. As well as the concert DVD, the package will also include the documentary film 33.3% by Yana Amur and a 2CD audio version of the set. It will also be available in a DVD/2LP vinyl version.

Frontman Robert Levon Been says: "It was a little over a year ago while sitting in the back of a passenger van outside Tokyo, all of us covered in sweat and half-cocked grins trying to catch our breath after having just walked off stage, I remember someone uttering the idea that we might actually really want to think about filming one of these shows before it's all over.

"I guess my first reaction was that we could all use a very long hot shower much more than another live DVD at that exact moment. My second was that it might be a shame if we reached the end of that tour without capturing any of the beauty and even brutality of it. But a lot of the music we create is not only where we exist, but also where we escape to." Read more here.

Judas Priest's Rob Halford Uncovers Novel He Wrote In The 1970s
Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford reveals in a new interview that he recently uncovered a novel that he wrote in the 1970s called "Library of Tears."

Halford explained finding it and gives some background on the story to Classic Rock Revisited. "Until recently, I was searching my house in the UK to try to find it, and I actually found it. I found the actual book, the manuscript I put together.

"I wrote it out longhand and then I typed it. I haven't re-read it yet--I read the first few pages. It's very childlike, but I'm just pleased that I was able to find it. I don't know if anything will come of it. I am just relieved that having thought it was completely lost, I now have it.

"It's a pretty cool story. It's about this evil kind of guy who steals people's emotions by capturing their tears. He has this library and instead of books he has these little glass vials of humanity. He has a room full of these things and it is called The Library of Tears. I've now discovered it, and who knows what will happen to it. I am not sure."

KISS Producer Discusses Band's Controversial Grunge Album
KISS producer Toby Wright was a special guest for a two part special from Decibel Geek podcast where he discussed the band's controversial final album from the unmasked period "Carnival of Souls".

The album was recorded as a follow-up to the band's acclaimed 1992 album "Revenge", featuring the same lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer but the album was shelved when the original lineup of the group reunited. It was later officially released in late 1997 after it was leaked.

The show sent over these excerpts from the interview: Recommended by producer Bob Ezrin, Wright remembers his initial meeting with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, which took place at A&M Studios: "They kinda put it in my ear why I was there. They wanted to follow a little hip trend going on at the time called Grunge music. The bottom line was, like all artists, they wanted to sell records. Y'know, they want to be on top of the pile. Gene has a big competitive personality so he's all about being on the top of the pile and whatever it takes to get there."

Then-guitarist Bruce Kulick was a large creative force during the making of the album. Wright shares his memories of Kulick's importance as well as a directive from him during pre-production meetings about how to get the most out of Simmons and Stanley for this very different album for KISS. "Bruce and I got really close during that whole record because he played most of the record. Without Bruce, this record wouldn't exist, ever. During those initial "nobody's around" conversations, I got inspiration from Bruce and instructions from Bruce that were like "You are gonna have to push the f*** out of these guys (Simmons & Stanley). Don't be afraid."

Other advice came from Ezrin who had worked with KISS on their previous album Revenge, "Bob's told me some stories about Gene. He's like "Watch out. One f***ing smell of weakness and he'll be all over you." I'll always remember that comment. So, I was like "Okay. I'm never gonna show any fear whatsoever that I'm in a room with one of my heroes. He'll never know that." He'll take advantage; big time. He'll smell fear in your eyes, it's over for you as far as having any kind of control over a situation; especially in a producer situation where I'm in the studio co-producing with he and Paul (Stanley) and it's the three of us "making decisions." Who has the last say? Depends on what the issue is. If it's something sonically, it's usually me. If it's something musical, it's usually them. It just depends on how the conversation was going and who was the bolder lion that day (laughs)."

Wright was tapped to produce Carnival of Souls, in part, due to his previous work with Alice in Chains. In this 2 part special, Wright details how he pushed the members of the band to attempt harmony vocal takes that mirrored the Seattle quartet's and how it, ultimately, would fall short in comparison, "It's just an effect that I use, harmony vocals. I hear all the harmonies in my head like Layne (Staley) did. I do that on a lot of records I produce…..Layne and Jerry (Cantrell), they had something special with it because they used notes that people don't use, typically speaking. …Layne and Jerry, they just did it. That was a part of their art just like Van Gogh picking up a f***ing paintbrush. That was their sound. With Gene and Paul, that's stuff that's songwriter-forced. There's more movement in what Layne and Jerry would've done instead of these guys (Simmons & Stanley).

While loved by a core group of KISS fans, the album overall was not embraced by the KISS Army stylistically. Wright remembers, "To be brought into a situation where I'm trying to make someone sound unlike themselves is difficult. I would have rather had this KISS album be entirely them and just do what you do; because that's what you do. I think a larger number of their fans would have embraced it instead of fighting about "that sucks" or "that's good."

While in production, the band were very excited about the prospects of this change in sound and, according Wright, putting a lot of eggs into the Grunge basket, "I was already slated to produce the next one …..It was in my contract. If this one had shipped platinum, I was to produce the next KISS album."

As many now know, everything came to a halt one day in the studio when Simmons and Stanley called a meeting with Wright and the rest of the band to make an announcement that would have a major impact on the album as well as two of the band members, "We were about done with the record. Gene got the call. Somebody offered him 100 million to put back on the makeup with all the original members. And that announcement in that room; holy sh*t….We all knew right as the words came out of his mouth that we were done…."Paul didn't really look around much. Gene, he was Paul Revere. He was the messenger that should've gotten shot (laughs)."

Carnival of Souls would soon thereafter leak on the internet and become a widely distributed bootleg album, with KISS fans snatching it up online as well as at KISS conventions. Rumors swirled that a member of the band may have been responsible for leaking the album. In this 2 part discussion Wright reflects, "I do remember getting questioned, big time. Who knows who did it? I have great ideas on who did it. If it was a band member, I'd just say it was for his personal gain and I'm sure he made a lot of f***ing money."

The album would finally get a proper release in October of 1997 when it was issued by Mercury Records with very little fanfare. Wright remembers the experience being very bittersweet, "I was thinking that I'm working on another multiplatinum album, and it should've been, and then all of a sudden they shelve it. 2 years later, now they're releasing it and didn't put any marketing push behind it and it's like "Why did you bother?""

Slipknot Clown Says Mask Has Been Trying To Kill Him
(TeamRock Radio) Slipknot percussionist Shawn 'Clown' Crahan admits he's never been happy wearing his mask on stage. And he's explained why the band have never recorded a cover version, or invited guests to appear on their albums.

Asked if he ever gets irritated by his headgear, Clown says in a Live Nation Q&A: "Every night for the last 20 years. It has always been trying to kill me." He prefers the one worn by bandmate Chris Fehn, explaining: "I made it with my wife."

Slipknot haven't yet put their latest masks on sale, but he says that will happen after a gallery exhibition once their current tour is complete. On the subject of covers, Clown says: "We've kicked the idea around - but always pride ourselves on original music."

Original Lynyrd Skynyrd Celebrated In The Studio
Syndicated radio show In The Studio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the original Lynyrd Skynyrd with a two-part special that includes interviews with Gary Rossington, Ed King, Johnny Van Zant, and archival comments from the late Allen Collins, Billy Powell, and Leon Wilkeson. The show sent over these details:

In an early '70s soft rock musical scene, Lynyrd Skynyrd was a welcome dose of rowdy. The Lynyrd Skynyrd legend was made with the six albums they released between 1973 and 1977: Pronounced , Second Helping, Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, the live One More from the Road ,and Street Survivors all chronicled a band with humble roots slugging it out (literally in some cases) to get to the top.

But there's more to the story. There is the hilarious story by Gary Rossington of the formation of the band on a Jacksonville Florida baseball diamond; the hiring of Ed King after extracting him in a backstage fight from a rival bar band; the discovery that their roadie (soon to be band member) Billy Powell was a classically trained pianist; numerous brawls on both sides of the Atlantic; the notorious 1975 "Torture Tour"; multiple defections by original members; and like a Greek tragedy, the tragic plane crash that would put an abrupt stop to one of the most influential Southern Rock outfits of all time.

Ironically, the story doesn't end there. In part two, Gary Rossington and Ed King's revelation is Ronnie Van Zant's stated desire to stop performing with the band prior to the plane crash; and Van Zant's youngest brother Johnny describes filling his brother's shoes in 1987 in the story of Lynyrd Skynyrd's rebirth.

Check out part one here and part two here.

The Church Announce New Studio Album
(Prog) Australian neo-psychedelic veterans The Church have confirmed their 21st album, Further/Deeper, will be released on June 8 in the UK. The launch comes after a European tour including two British dates - at London's Islington Academy on June 4 and Brighton's Haunt on June 5.

The 12-track title was boiled down from an eight-day writing session that resulted in a crop of 26 songs. Vocalist-bassist Steve Kilbey says: "The magic started on day one.

"Someone strummed a chord and we were off. We wrote and recorded like demons - it was inspiring to feel every member using all his resources in the service of this record."

It's The Church's first album with former Powderfinger guitarist Ian Haug. Read more here.

Idlewild Recruit Robocop Star Jay Baruchel For New Video
(TeamRock Radio) Idlewild have called on actor and longtime fan of the band Jay Baruchel to star in the video for their next single. The Robocop, This Is The End and How To Train Your Dragon star will appear in the promo for Every Little Means Trust, which is out on April 27 via Empty Words.

After discovering the Canadian was a fan, the band invited him to Scotland to film for their first music video in more than eight years. Baruchel says: "Idlewild have been the soundtrack of my life since I first heard them in Bristol when I was 19. I was lucky enough to be near the radio when You Held The World In Your Arms came on and it was epic and anthemic and that was it.

"It was like hearing a favourite band that I'd somehow never heard before. At turns, violent and melancholy and crystalline and triumphant. I very quickly fell down the rabbit hole of melody, intention, and poetry that is Idlewild's art." Read more here.

Bad Company Reveal Alternative 'Whiskey Bottle'
(Radio.com) Most Bad Company fans are familiar with "Whiskey Bottle." For the uninitiated, it's a song that never made it to an album, but was the b-side to "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" from their second album, 1975's Straight Shooter, which came out 40 years ago next month.

However, a different tempo often changes a song's vibe completely and that's definitely the case here. The recently unearthed version, which we are proudly premiering here, has a more Stonesy swagger to it. If the take that originally appeared on the flip side to "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" felt like closing time at the pub, this one is more like the first one you hear when you step in the door for a long night and many pints of bitter.

This version was recorded at Island Studios in Basing Street by Richard Digby Smith; the rest of the album sessions were recorded by Ron Nevison (the band self-produced the album). According to our friends at Rhino Records (who administer the Bad Co. catalog), it was marked as a master, but unused until now.

"Whiskey Bottle" will be included on the deluxe reissue of Straight Shooter, which will be reissued April 7 as a Deluxe Edition, along with the band's 1974 self titled debut. Both will include a full disc of bonus tracks; Straight Shooter will include both versions of "Whiskey Bottle."

Check out the alternate take of the song here.

Teen Rock Band Unlocking The Truth Want To End $1.8 Million Sony Deal
(Classic Rock) Teen trio Unlocking The Truth are taking legal steps to break free from their $1.8 million record deal with Sony. The Brooklyn band last year signed the impressive deal after a video of their performing in New York's Times Square went viral.

Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, Jarad Dawkins, 12, and Alex Atkins, 13, were handed a six-album contract that meant they would be advanced $60,000 for their debut record. If that sold more than 250,000 copies, they were to be handed $350,000 for its follow-up.

On the back of the deal, Unlocking The Truth played shows all over the US, appeared at festivals and opened for Guns n' Roses. But they are now seeking to end the agreement without having released any material, according to Billboard. Read more here.

Wilko Johnson Was Reluctant To Hear Life-Saving Advice
(Classic Rock) The man who saved Wilko Johnson's life nearly couldn't pass on his urgent message to the musician because bouncers wouldn't let him backstage. And even once he'd made his way through, the former Dr Feelgood guitarist told him he didn't want to listen.

But the efforts of photographer and doctor Charlie Chan paid off, and Johnson last year underwent a pioneering procedure that cured him of terminal cancer.

The story is told in upcoming documentary The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson, created by Julien Temple, who also made Feelgood movie Oil City Confidential.

Temple tells Fox: "He was living vividly in the moment. He accepted his fate in a very inspiring way and kept on playing. He didn't want to poison his last 10 months.

"After about 18 months a photographer in the pit at one of his concerts, who had a medical background, said, 'This guy's got too much energy - what's going on?'

"It's a typical rock'n'roll thing. He tried to get backstage and couldn't. He was blocked, but forced his way thought and said, 'Wilko, you've got to listen.' Wilko was saying, 'No, I've accepted everything. I'm beyond worrying about this.' The guy had to really insist." Read more here.

Sweet Billy Pilgrim's New Album Title Inspired By JFK Assassination
(Prog) Sweet Billy Pilgrim will release fourth album Motorcade Amnesiace on May 25 via Kscope, they've confirmed. And the title was inspired by the assassination of US president John F Kennedy in 1963.

Frontman Tim Elsenburg says: "When it came to making the record, all the songs started to form around the struggle against the cynical heart. I wanted to find a symbolic moment in our history, where it felt a little like innocence was lost and something ugly and hopeless started to creep in.

"I thought of JFK - as we followed that motorcade through the streets of Dallas, in post gunshot-shock, maybe we forgot how to hope for something better, just a little." Read more here.

Public Service Broadcasting's 'Go!' Gets Remixed
(Prog) Public Service Broadcasting have released a stream of their single Go! as remixed by Errors. The variant version is described as a "spectral disco" take on the track from second album The Race For Space.

The Race For Space, which follows 2013 debut Inform - Educate - Entertain, was released last month via Test Card Recordings. A video for the original version of Go! was also launched last month.

Mastermind J Willgoose Esq said of the album: "I find it a particularly sad indictment of our species that arguably our greatest technological and spiritual achievement - leaving our own planet and walking on another celestial body - is viewed by the more cynical as a colossal waste of money or, worse, as the greatest hoax ever perpetuated." Check out the remix here.

Jeff Beck's 'Blow By Blow' Album Turns 40
(Gibson) What does a rock guitar god do when he's reached the pantheon? The answer for Jeff Beck was "play jazz," and he trumpeted it with his classic album Blow By Blow, which was released 40 years ago, on March 29, 1975.

The album remains a fusion classic, although Beck managed to blend more than jazz and rock, with Blow By Blow's reggae-infused take on the Beatles "She's a Woman," the funky "Constipated Duck" and his tribute to Roy Buchanan in the epic blues excursion "'Cause We've Ended As Lovers."

By 1974, when Blow By Blow was recorded at London's AIR Studios, Beck had already been a member of the Yardbirds and made two classic blues-rock albums with his Jeff Beck Group: 1968's Truth, featuring Rod Stewart on vocals, and 1972's The Jeff Beck Group. While recording the latter in Memphis, Beck wandered into a guitar shop and found a 1954 Gibson Les Paul that had been built as a Gold Top with a trapeze tailpiece, but had been modded with replacement tuners, bigger frets and humbuckers, and refinished in an oxblood shade.

That Les Paul became one of Beck's primary stage instruments from 1972 to 1977. And it played an important role in The Jeff Beck Group, which featured Beck's ferocious version of Don Nix's "Going Down," as well as Beck, Bogert & Appice, the debut album by the short-lived super group that also included bassist and singer Tim Bogert of the Vanilla Fudge and über drummer Carmine Appice. The guitar also appears in the portrait of Beck on the front cover of Blow by Blow and provides the gorgeous tones on 1977's Jeff Beck With the Jan Hammer Group Live. The Gibson Custom Shop immortalized this singular guitar in 2009 as the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul Oxblood.

Clearly Beck used a variety of guitars to record Blow By Blow, given the album's wide array of six-string tones perfectly captured by Beatles producer George Martin. And Beck was a perfectionist while crafting the tracks, often returning to re-cut solos and add overdubs to tunes that seemed completed. One legendary tale involves Beck phone up Martin a few months after the sessions to tell him he'd like to recut a solo, and Martin replying, "Sorry, Jeff, but the record is in the shops."

Beck assembled a crack band for the album, holding over the Jeff Beck Group's keyboardist Max Middleton and recruiting the rhythm section of bassist Phil Chen and drummer Richard Bailey. Despite Beck's fastidious desire to craft an epic creative statement, they created the tune "Air Blower" out of a jam in the studio, earning a four-way credit for the tune. Stevie Wonder joined on clavinet for "Thelonious," a tribute to the jazz great Thelonius Monk written by Wonder for his wife at the time, singer Syreeta Wright. Read more here.

The World According to Kid Rock
(Gibson) Kid Rock is getting ready to hit the road this summer with another installment of his $20 ticket tour. As the name suggests, tickets will be only $20, and better yet - the beer is only $4. Rock released his latest album First Kiss back in February, with the catchy title track receiving plenty of radio airplay. Let's take a look at what this rapper turned country rocker also known as Bob Ritchie has had to say about his music and fans over the years!

Rock spoke to the New York Times about the inspiration behind the title track from his new album First Kiss, a song romanticizing those adolescent years when the world was still at your feet:

"I'm always complaining about where rock music has gone, with this new metal feel. You can hear the kick and the snare and everything shaved perfectly. But that classic feel of good blues-based rock and roll - we dig for inspiration by listening to music, and then we go, 'Let's write one.' We know how to write songs. I've been doing this long enough."

Kid Rock is a huge fan of Hank Williams Jr., and over the years the two have become great friends. Here ' s what Williams had to say about Rock in an interview with MLive:

"Well, Bobby and I are really close. He and his family are just like family to me. It all started years ago when my manager Merle Kilgore got a call about Bobby coming to one of our shows. When we met on the bus, I was shocked at how many songs of mine that he knew. Then we ended up doing a 'CMT Crossroads' special and our friendship became stronger and stronger. We now both own several hundred acres across the road from each other in Alabama, and we both have places down in Florida."

With his $20 ticket tour Kid Rock has proved that you don ' t have to charge outrageous ticket prices in order to make a profit. In an interview with Fox News Rock explains how it is that he ' s still able to make money without charging the promoter up front:

"The first part is I don't take a guarantee… I said no, I'll set my own ticket prices, I won't take anything upfront. I said but I want to be rewarded for getting people in there. So when they do buy the beer and the popcorn and the hotdogs and the parking and my tickets and the T-shirts, we put that in a big pot and we'll split it up… All the fans have to do is know that they're getting a great deal." Singled Out: Moonspell's Extinct
Today Fernando Ribeiro from Moonspell tells us about some of the tracks from their brand new studio album, "Extinct", which was released today in North America by Napalm Records. Here is the story:

It's a terrible thing to choose a single when you come from the gothic metal genre as we do. Some of the singles around do not just represent the album and they lead people to jump to conclusions. It's like the avante garde expedition crew you send in few numbers to face a much larger army.

We really do prefer people to get into all songs off the album, as we treat them as finely individually for them to stand out in themselves but naturally they belong to a certain groove. Like if you just stopped to watch a beautiful little bay at a river and forte to go down the stream. It's that contrast that makes it work.

So we do release a couple of songs before the whole album hits the street. This time around we got a first premiere on Portuguese national radio with the song "The Last Of Us" and we were met with a good response when it leaked on-line. It's a straight goth-rock song, catchy and dark.

Then we released the title track "Extinct." It is a more powerful tune, with heavy guitar metal riffing and a strong chorus that breaks it into a more melodic thing which sounds great to us, that contrast. Our fans really digged that one, always a killer feeling.

Finally, we will release the album-opener "Breathe (Until We Are No More)" which really sums up the album in a way, it's a song with many moods and we added a Turkish orchestra section into it which really made the song bigger and more exuberant.

All in all, I do have a problem in putting out a single and people spoiling it as a favorite child or scald it as a bastard. Fortunately our fans are album people and so are we. After all if the album is good enough it's like listening to a longer single. That can make it special for all.

Today's Day in Rock

Rolling Stones To Announce Tour This Week?
This weekend The Rolling Stones started hinting at a big announcement via teases posted to their Facebook page with the hashtag #SatisfactionThursday, leading many to believe that the group will be announcing their North American summer tour this Thursday.

The new online teases come after guitarist Ronnie Wood said in two recent interviews that the band was planning to launch a North American tour this summer.

Over the weekend, the band made several Facebook postings including the first post that featured a video showing the members rehearsing while their classic song "Miss You" plays in the background, according to ABC.

The video and subsequent posts directed fans to a website called JustAKissAway.rocks that includes the band's lips and tongue logo above the words "Get What You Need" and the #SatisfactionThursday hashtag, as well as a signup box for email alerts asking for fan's email address and zip code.

As we previously reported, Ronnie Wood broke the news of the Rolling Stones tour plans in two recent interviews. Woods told Radio.com, "We're coming to North America in the summer."

Wood also confirmed the plans in a separate interview with GMI Rock News. "Oh yeah, we had a meeting in New York with the boys, and we're gonna come to North America again in the summer."

Megadeth Recruit Lamb of God Star For New Album?
When Megadeth recently had a lineup shakeup when two members left the group, many fans hoped that it would open the door to the return of drummer Nick Menza. But now Menza has leaked the identity of the drummer working on the group's new album and it isn't him... but it should be a name familiar to many metal fans: Lamb of God's Chris Adler.

Menza posted a video to his YouTube channel of him jamming with his new snare drum from "Sleishman," but he titled the clip "Maybe I can play on Lamb of God's new album?"

He then posted the following in the comment section, "Well since Adler is playing on the new Megadeth album. Do I get to play on Lamb of God new album ? I'm down for it .... Chris you rock ! one of my favorite drummers. good luck bro ...."

Last week, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine posted some message via twitter confirming that the band would begin recording the new album this week and they were close to finding a new guitarist.

On Tuesday of last week he tweeted, "One more week! Load in for the next record starts 3/17. So pumped!!" and also tweeted "I'm excited to be auditioning one of my final picks for my new guitarist today."

The band has not yet confirmed if Adler will indeed be playing on the new studio album. Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick left the group last fall and have since formed a new group called Act of Defiance with former Scar The Martyr singer Henry Derek and Shadows Fall bassist Matt Bachand.

Tool Legal Victory Should 'Really Speed Up Progress' On New Album
Tool guitarist Adam Jones says that the band have settled the "multi-level lawsuit" with their insurance company which contributing to delay of the band's long awaited new studio album.

Jones told Yahoo! Music that "the whole thing is finally over" and "I think having this lawsuit out of the way should really speed of the progress of getting the album done."

He explained the impact the legal battle on the band, "We would have had an album out a long time ago, we would have been taking more tours. But we've been discouraged and distracted by this major lawsuit, which is the worst thing that's ever happened to us. It reminds me of one of those ads you see on TV where a guy goes, 'Have you been in a car wreck? Call us!'"

He also revealed that there was an unusual metal connection to the outcome of the case, "I had a real feeling that things were going to go in our favor because the day the trial was supposed to start, the venue was changed on us. We moved over to a North L.A. courthouse and we had a brand-new judge, who was fantastic.

"You know what his name was? Randy Rhodes! I knew the power of metal, and my appreciation of metal was someday going to be like a guardian angel. But he was great. He came in and took over, and he's the reason the whole thing is finally over."

The band has also been dealing with a previously undisclosed illness. Read about that and more details about the new album and what sparked the legal battle here.

Toto Star Mike Porcaro Dead At 59
Longtime Toto bass player Mike Porcaro died early Sunday morning following his battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). He was 59.

Porcaro's brother and Toto bandmate Steve broke the news to fans via Facebook. He wrote, "Our brother Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:04 AM last night at home surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, my brother."

Toto guitarist Steve Lukather paid tribute with the following Facebook post, "My brother Mike Porcaro is now at peace. I will miss him more than I could ever put into words. My deepest love to the family. God Bless".

Classic Rock reports: He was forced to retire from touring with the band in 2007 as a result of his illness, also known as motor neurone disease, which causes muscle wasting. The band continued to list him as a permanent member while original bassist David Hungate took his place on the road.

Metal Band Says Kanye West Used Their Logo

The outfit, inspired by NWOBHM icons including Iron Maiden and Diamond Head, have been using their artwork, based on an ancient religious figure, since 2008.

But just as they gear up for the launch of their third album, West has pounced on the same idea for his single All Day. Christian Mistress singer Christine Davis tells the Village Voice: "We were very surprised and disappointed. We were worried that our artistic freedom was being taken away from us in just a moment." Motley Crue Would Rather Retire Too Early Than Too Late
(Classic Rock) Nikki Sixx has compared Motley's Crue's retirement to a boxer bowing out gracefully at the top of his game. He says their decision to end their touring career on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles is all about pride, and that the move is having the desired effect.

Sixx tells For Bass Players Only: "It started with the idea of us not wanting to be what we've seen before - people hobbling off into the sunset. We watch it in boxing. I've seen some of my favorite football players who should have gone away a couple of seasons before.

"It's human nature to want to keep going, but you have to fight when you know there's the possibility of not looking great on the way out. It's better to pull it in a couple years too early, and that's really what we're doing." Read more here.

Scorpions Singer Says Music Helps Us Forget World's Problems
(Classic Rock) Scorpions singer Klaus Meine believes music can help people temporarily forget the world's problems. Meine says that while it is up to politicians to deal with social issues, he loves that music can offer an escape.

Speaking to Rock Overdose about the Greek debt crisis, Meine says: "Music is only a soundtrack to our lives, and I think with our fans in Greece, when we come together, it's all about emotions and it's all about music and it's all about 'forget the real world for a moment.'

"That's what music can do - to take us away on a different trip where we forget the mess we're all in sometimes. Music is about bringing people together, and this is our part. For the rest, it's up to politicians to deal with it, and hopefully they find good ways and bring people back together.

"It's good sometimes to get away and take a deep dive in the world of emotions and the world of music, to get away from what's out there and what is happening in the real world." Read more here.

Vega Guitarist Accuses H.E.A.T Of Using Backing Tracks
(Classic Rock) Swedish AOR outfit H.E.A.T have been accused of relying on backing tracks at live shows. Vega guitarist Tom Martin has made the claim after seeing them at this weekend's HRH AOR festival, hours after his own band had played.

Martin says via Facebook: "H.E.A.T spoiler alert - I'm sorry to those of you that dig this band, but they piss myself and my fellow band members off that we work hard on real BVs and musicianship, and everything they do live is all on tape. Everything near enough.

"I'd love to see those boys without backing tracks. It would be sh*t. Very upset by it all." It's not the first time Martin has taken a pot-shot at the other group. Read more here.

Grateful Dead Lyricist Recalls Jerry Garcia's Last Days
(Classic Rock) Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter recalls being "alarmed" by Jerry Garcia's kind words in the days leading up to the mainman's death. The pair's collaboration on 1993 song Days Between had them both excited about what the future might hold.

But when Garcia phoned him in 1995 to set up their next writing session, there was something unusual about his tone. Hunter tells Rolling Stone: "Jerry had been into rehab again. He called me up - he was going to come over and we were going to get writing again.

"He said some wonderful stuff that was very uncharacteristic of him. He said, 'Your words never stuck in my throat.' Jerry didn't tend to talk like that. There was something possibly, slightly alarming about it - because he was dead within a week or so after that." Read more here.

Doro Pesch Never Felt Different Being A Woman In Metal
(Classic Rock) Doro Pesch says she never thought of herself as one of the few women in metal - insisting it was difficult enough just to convince people to accept the genre as a whole.

The singer is celebrating 30 years in the business, and will release a live DVD package later this year. And she says she experienced nothing but support from her colleagues and from other artists from day one.

Doro tells Phoenix New Times: "People might've thought it was crazy or different, a woman in heavy metal, but I never felt different. I think you had to fight more for your music - you had to fight more to do heavy metal.

"Because in the beginning with metal, it wasn't accepted as a whole. So you had to really work your ass off, work 10 times more, to make other people feel like metal is something really beautiful." Read more here.

Slipknot Now A Brotherhood Following Hardships
(TeamRock Radio) Slipknot guitarist Jim Root reveals the band is so tight these days that they have turned their previous friendship into more of a brotherhood. In a new BBC Radio 1 documentary, Slipknot: Hellbound, Rock Show host Daniel P Carter hooked up with the band at the final concert of their first UK tour in six years.

Carter investigates what makes Slipknot tick in 2015 as they tour behind 2014's .5 The Gray Chapter - their first album following the death of founding member Paul Gray and the departure of drummer Joey Jordison.

Root explains the band's history has brought them closer together as a unit. He says: "I don't think any of us are really friends now, I think we're really brothers now. We don't see each other all the time, we don't call each other up, we don't go to each other's birthday parties, but we'd probably kill for each other still. We definitely would kill for each other still."

Gray's absence - and presence - are felt at the same time by percussionist Shawn Crahan, who gets emotional during a backstage tour as he opens the late bassist's wardrobe drawer.

"This is probably a pair of Paul's boxers," he says. "This is my brother, man. What can I tell you?" Read more here.

Rob Halford Reflects On Classic Judas Priest Album and Concert
As Judas Priest release a deluxe 30th anniversary edition of their "Defenders Of The Faith" album, frontman Rob Halford takes a look back at the album and live concert recording that they included in the new package.

Halford shared his memories of the Long Beach Arena concert (including as on a bonus disc of the anniversary reissue) with Classic Rock Revisited. He said, "It was Saturday night, I believe and it was kind of a summer show. It was a sold-out event. It was just absolute magic.

"That night everything was working as you hoped. The crowd was great. It is a classic Priest memory and I am really pleased we were able to have recorded it. When I listen to it now you can sense it.

"We were playing the music a million miles an hour. I don't know how we were able to play the songs that fast. I know how it happened, as we were just caught up in the energy of the moment and we were pushing it as fast as we could, so the tempo increased dramatically on some of the songs. It didn't create any detrimental effect, in fact, I think it just gave the event more ferocity.

"It is wonderful that we can marry those two things up with this release. We can marry up the live experience of what the Metal Heads were going through that night and on that tour, as well as having the studio recordings to kind of make a comparison."

Halford also discussed the up and down circumstance surrounding the recording of "Defenders Of The Faith". He said, "The tremendous reaction to Screaming for Vengeance was propelled by the way radio embraced the song, 'You've Got Another Thing Comin'' which became part of rock and roll history.

"You get a record that goes Platinum pretty quickly in America, at least, and naturally everybody's stoked and excited and you're ready to get to that next level, whatever that might be. There is always an element of uncertainty in rock and roll. You play your heart out and you write and record the best you can, but there is no guarantee what the outcome will be. Having said that, we were completely immersed in this amazing time that we had, particularly in the States, which wound up at the now iconic and infamous US Festival. We shared the stage with our mates on 5/29/'83. Ozzy was there. [Motley] Crue was there. Triumph was there. Van Halen was there. The Scorpions were there, and Priest was there.

"In July we got on a plane to Ibiza, Spain. It is a small bunch of islands off the East coast of Spain. We're all set to go and we get to the studio, and talk about hitting your brakes… there was absolutely nothing left in the studio. There was just the building. It had been gutted. They hadn't been paying the bills and so, unbeknownst to us, they'd come in and taken the consoles out. They took the tape machines… everything that was not secured was taken.

"We basically went back to square one in the idea of getting off the plane to start making Metal. We had to wait two or three weeks before we could fire everything back up again.

"I look back now at that with kind of bewilderment and amusement, but at the same time, the thing about Metal is that whenever these difficulties or adversities are put in your face, Metal Heads deal with it. We say, 'Bring it on' and we take care of business and that's what we did. Having said that, we just started like we've done with past Priest albums and we turned the amps on and plugged in the guitars. Slowly but surely, we put together Defenders of the Faith." (Classic Rock) Apocalyptica are streaming the instrumental Till Death Do Us Part from their eighth studio album. The tune follows Cold Blood and the title track as the third preview to the album Shadowmaker, which is due for release on April 20 via Better Noise.

Cellist Eicca Toppinen explains the band has won over many fans with their live shows while mixing classical elements and string instruments in a heavy rock format.

Toppinen tells The Rockpit: "I think with people who have heard about us and they heard stories about Apocalyptica who play cellos, when they see us live, I think the way we do it the people are usually like 'Woah! What the f*** is going on? What's happened?'

"I'm happy that it's mainly positive feedback from what I have heard and what I get." Check out the stream and read more here.

Mark Knopfler Previews Documentary
(Classic Rock) Mark Knopfler is previewing documentary footage from the making of his eighth solo album. The former Dire Straits man issues Tracker this week via Virgin EMI Records. It will be available on CD, double vinyl and deluxe CD with four bonus tracks.

A box set version will include the album on CD and vinyl, with a bonus CD featuring six extra tracks, a DVD with an exclusive short film directed by Henrik Hansen, and an interview with the guitarist - plus a numbered art print and six photographic prints.

With the follow-up to 2012's Privateering, Knopfler continues to see himself as a songwriter first, ahead of his skills as a guitarist and a performer. He says: "My position as a songwriter is just to try to make a good recording of a good song. And then the song walks out the door and goes off to have a life of its own.

"And then to maybe go out and maybe play it for people to complete the circuit, and that's what keeps it exciting." Watch the preview here.

The Sanity Days Stream Song From New Album
(Classic Rock) The Sanity Days are streaming their song "Satan's Blood" from their debut album, Evil Beyond Belief, ahead of its UK release on March 16 via Candlelight Records.

The band, which features former Onslaught members Steve Grimmett, Steve Grice, Alan Jordan and Jase Stallard, regrouped in 2012 to perform their 1989 effort In Search Of Sanity and eventually began writing material.

Drummer Steve Grice sees Evil Beyond Belief as a fresh start in a more mainstream direction. He tells Metal Crypt: "I guess it does have a slight feel of the Sanity album, but that's probably just because Steve's voice is on it. In terms of the actual sound of the songs, it isn't really similar.

"We have taken a more mainstream, maybe an alternative, approach. All of us tend to listen to completely different styles of music, and I really do believe this has come across in the writing of this record." Read more and stream the song here.

Wire Streaming New Song 'Split Your Sides'
(Prog) Wire have released an online stream of their track "Split Your Sides" from their upcoming self-titled album. The veteran outfit's 13th title is released on April 13 via Pinkflag. It follows last month's unveiling of single Joust & Jostle.

The've also announced that Karen Gwyer, Tomaga, Orlando, Boothroyd and Xaviers will be the support acts for their five-night residency at London's Lexington next month, which forms part of a wider UK tour.

Singer Colin Newman says the band have resisted calls to reunite their classic lineup, saying: "The point where our personal narratives meet is all about change - moving on and keeping it interesting for ourselves. We're in it for the long haul and this is a one-way trip." See the dates and stream the song here.

The Gentle Storm Inspiration Revealed By Lucassen
(Prog) Arjen Lucassen has revealed the inspiration behind The Diary, his collaborative album with Anneke van Giersbergen, to be released under the name The Gentle Storm.

The title will be launched on March 23 via InsideOut and it's available to pre-order in a variety of bundles via Lucassen and van Giersbergen's websites.

In the exclusive video interview, the Ayreon mastermind discussed how he wanted to create a contrast to the work he's best known for. He says: "I asked the fans on Facebook, 'What would you guys want to hear from me next?'"

The resulting opinions led him to ask the question: "Why don't I split it up - do 10 songs in two completely different versions?" He also explains how he chose van Giersbergen from a "very short list" of singers. Watch the video here.

Korpiklaani Stream New Song 'Lempo'
(TeamRock Radio) Korpiklaani are streaming the song "Lempo" as a preview to their ninth album Notia. Due May 4 via Nuclear Blast, the follow-up to 2012's Manala features new accordionist Sami Pertulla, who played an active role in the folk arrangements along with fiddler Tuomas Rounakari.

Rounakari says: "Lempo is a fiery God of fertility and the song is about the spells designated to Lempo in order to guarantee a success in one's personal love life. The Finnish mythology is very unique in its approach to sexuality. We do not have spells to improve procreation like most of the cultures do. But the spells to gain more luck in love life or to increase ones stamina are numerous for both men and women.

"The song is a prime example of the new Korpiklaani sound with a lead guitar like violin solo and more prominent folk arrangements. It takes a step towards progressive rock balancing the folk and metal in a way band founder Jonne Jarvala has always dreamed it to be." Stream the song here.

Singled Out: LouderThanQuiet's Red Gemini (Feat. Jonny Craig)
Today Ali "Alireza" Rezghi from LouderThanQuiet tells us about their new single "Red Gemini," which features Jonny Craig (Slaves/Dance Gavin Dance) and comes from their forthcoming album. Here is the story:

I (Ali) only had half of the writing credit even though its very personal for me. I had the idea to mix Post hardcore and Melodeath a while before the song was created. But I didn't have any idea of how to make the sound cohesive as far as the guitars. I had a knack for making Melodeath but post hardcore was always hard for me. It wasn't until we met Danny that this song was possible. He had a knack for making post hardcore and he didn't even know it yet. His chord choice and knowledge was uncanny. I got him into bands like hail the sun and la dispute and the rest was history. The thing that tied this song together was the switch from the beginning chords into the chorus. Danny's clean arpeggio reminded me of old Emarosa and gave me an opportunity to sing to the best of my ability. When the blast beat and chorus comes in I gave off that Killswitch Engage vibe that kids in our hometown love and the song became something special instantly. The Black Dahlia Murder, Wretched, and Dethklok definitely inspired the melodic death metal parts in the song but the post hardcore part in the middle was inspired by Dance Gavin Dance and Hummanequin by The Color Morale. It was a Huge blend of sounds. by the time the song was done we had made the second breakdown with the intent of letting Danny solo because this is the first solo he has ever recorded for the band and we wanted to let him shine.

Lyrically we wanted to write from the heart for this one. We wanted it to mean something to someone out there going through the same thing. Its kind of cliche but its one of the easiest forms of therapy for a broken musician. When the crowd sings your therapy song with you, that's when you feel the most alive.

Vocally Rico also did something for the first time by using a shout/mid range scream. he literally walked up to the mic tired from lack of sleep one day and decided to yell but it sounded so good that me and domo recorded him and those are the actual tracks we recorded on the first verse of the song. that first verse of shouts is the only part of vocals that wasn't recorded with Jamie King.

And getting the legendary Jonny Craig on the track was the icing on the cake. Needless to say, he killed it. But this song was about my relationship. It ended tragically because I had known she was never gonna be strong enough to be faithful. What I didn't expect was the countless lies and deceit from someone i had known so many years. Jonny knew exactly how i felt and made sure to give the song an extra push. I thought the song was complete and actually gave Jonny something specific to sing but he heard something special and just added on top of what I already had making the song fuller and more emotional than it previously was. That moment when i heard our voices together made me feel like I had achieved my goal.

KISS Would Have Killed Ace Frehley Had He Stayed
(Classic Rock) Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley believes he'd have died if he'd remained in the band after 2002. He bowed out for the second and apparently final time 13 years ago - and he says he'd realised he was on a "collision course."

Frehley tells Australia's Today show: "When I left there was a sigh of relief. I just thought I was going to end up being a statistic. By the grace of God I'm here today, clean and sober eight years. Life's never been better."

He says of beating the bottle: "The first year or two is hard" - but it's better than being the person who "was looking at being in trouble with the law for drunk driving and all that crazy stuff." Read more here.

Aerosmith To Play Pro Football Concert For Legends
Aerosmith have announced that they will be performing at the inaugural Concert for Legends, which will be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.

The concert will take place on August 7th at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, OH. The 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement will be taking place the next day when Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Bill Polian, Junior Seau, Will Shields, Mick Tingelhoff, and Ron Wolf will be inducted.

Aerosmith Joe Perry had this to say, "Having grown up since the age of 2, born in Lawrence, Ma., 45 minutes from Foxborough Stadium and seen the franchise grow has been an amazing experience. As Aerosmith began traveling the world and became our own Hall of Famers, seeing the Patriots under the brilliant guidance of the Kraft family, we would hear the news of our hometown team winning again as we were doing a show in a far flung corner of the world and we would swell with pride and think, 'Ya those are our boys.' The fact that American Football is worldwide news, shows the intensity of the game and the impact of how you play it.

"On behalf of Aerosmith we would like to congratulate all of you Hall of Famers, owners, the commissioner of NFL, and of course our hometown team the Patriots. To perform this show for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Hall of Famers is truly a great honor. You only get here by playing the game with all of your heart and soul. So we look forward to honoring all of you with a show that comes from the same place."

Hall of Fame President David Baker says, "The Hall is thrilled to have legends of the music world honor the legends of the Game. Aerosmith performing in the inaugural Concert for Legends will add even more excitement and energy to an Enshrinement Weekend that kicks off the NFL's 96th season since its birth in Canton, and the launch to Super Bowl 50."

Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton adds, "When we started out, jocks did not hang out with long haired musicians longer than it took to beat them up. Finally we have a meeting of the minds based on mutual respect. It'll be a great honor to be there that night."

I am a great believer in 'The Will of the Way Things Are' and I also believe that the time has come to stop resisting and denying and to surrender to the way it is. I can only hope that, during this journey, I have somehow contributed to the happiness in the lives of a few other fellow humans."

Muse Release New Song 'Psycho'
(Radio.com) Muse released the song "Psycho," from their upcoming album Drones, in lyric video form to their YouTube page Thursday, March 12. The clip shows the band performing the song in a darkened room while clips of a drill sergeant screaming at a cadet are interspersed on occasion.

"I'm gonna make you/ I'm gonna break you/ I'm gonna make you/ a f-ing psycho," Matt Bellamy whispers menacingly over a grooving riff--definitely a polar opposite from their last album's first single, "Madness," or even the first-released song "Survival" for the 2012 Olympics. Call it a return to form.

"Psycho" is the first taste of Muse's Drones, save for teaser clips posted to the band's Instagram over the past few months. The lead radio single, "Dead Inside," will be revealed the week of March 23. Read more and check out the song here.

Motley Crue Farewell Tour Not About The Money Says Nikki Sixx
(hennemusic) Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx says the band's farewell tour is all about the issue of credibility to the band and not the money involved and he reiterates that the band really will stop touring after the final show.

"It started with the idea of pride and it started with the idea of us not wanting to be what we've seen before us, which is people kinda hobbling off into the sunset," Sixx tells For Bass Players Only. "We watch it in boxing, and I've seen some of my favorite football players who should've gone away a couple seasons before. It's human nature to want to keep going, but you have to fight against the 'I'm just gonna keep doing it' when you know the possibility of not looking great on the way out. It's better to pull it in a couple years too early, and that's really what we're doing."

The Crue are roughly half way through The Final Tour, and Sixx maintains there is no chance of the band reconsidering its plans to stop touring at the end of 2015.

"For me, no, never," explains the bassist. "Every version of that question has been asked and there's all the trick questions: 'Would you do it for $100 million for five shows in Dubai?' Y'know, let's just get to the core of it: Do you want us to renege on our word? We don't want to.

"I don't need to name the bands that have. It's obvious. It's okay if they want to do that, and it's okay if their fans accept it. For us, we didn't want to do that. Plus, I have less years in front of me than I have behind me, and it's the same for all my band members. There's a track record of what we've done together, and I think we each individually want to go out and do some other stuff.

"If it was just about money, it would be different. But it's not about money. It's about credibility. And, you know, the next day after we take our final bow, I'm gonna look at my band members and say, 'Wow, dudes, everything we said the first day we got together, the very first band rehearsal, we did it.' And then I'm right back at it." Read more here.

Queen Classic Named Favorite 70s Song
(hennemusic) Queen's 1975 classic, "Bohemian Rhapsody", has been voted as the UK's favorite song from the 1970s in a recent poll and ITV program The Nation's Favourite 70s Number One.

The band are sharing video from the broadcast, featuring the unveiling of the song as the winner, including interviews with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, producers Tony Visconti and Roy Thomas Baker and Blondie's Chris Stein.

The Queen classic topped a viewer-voted poll ahead of songs by Abba, Simon and Garfunkel, Blondie and Kate Bush. Taken from Queen's fourth album, "A Night At The Opera," "Bohemian Rhapsody" originally reached No. 1 in the UK on November 2, 1975, when it began a 9-week run at the top, and then again on December 15, 1991 (for 5 weeks) following the passing of lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Rush's Alex Lifeson Talks Preparation For Upcoming Tour
(Classic Rock) Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has described his band's rehearsal schedule as "nuts" as they gear up for a 34-date North American tour. The trip could be the last of its kind after the three members took several months over deciding whether to hit the road at all.

Manager Ray Danniels this week said it was "somewhere between possible and probable" that they wouldn't tour again. Lifeson tells Jam: "We're nuts. We rehearse for six weeks before the rehearsals - I'm serious.

"I've been rehearsing for three weeks now. I spend four hours, three times a week, and then the rest of the time I play for an hour to two hours. And that's just to get ready for rehearsals."

He adds that they're in the earliest stages of preparation and jokes: "We're at that stage where we've just started playing. You don't want to hear us." Read more here.

Wilko Johnson's Cancer Battle Focus Of New Documentary
(Classic Rock) The months that Wilko Johnson thought would be his last are the subject of a documentary movie. Made by Julien Temple - who also created Dr Feelgood film Oil City Confidential - The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson follows the guitarist through his "farewell tour" to the unexpected surgery that saved his life.

He'd refused chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and thought he was going to be killed by the tumor in his pancreas. But a pioneering procedure resulted in the all-clear being given last October.

Speaking soon after his diagnosis, Johnson said: "I began to feel almost euphoric and the feeling hasn't worn off. I realise that all the things I usually worry about don't matter." Read more here.

Carcass Frontman Says Comeback Album Was Torture
(TeamRock Radio) Carcass frontman Jeff Walker describes making the band's 2013 comeback album Surgical Steel as "torture." The bassist and vocalist puts the trauma down to the fact they were using digital recording tools rather than tape, which they'd always done previously.

Walker believes that, although the technology offered the chance to tidy up imperfections, it made for a laborious process rather than a fun experience. Walker tells Rock Overdose (via Blabbermouth): "It started off fun - then it turned into complete torture. It took a lot longer than we expected. And gradually some of the fun we had was getting squeezed out of the sessions.

"One of the main problems with digital is that you can do many takes and just keep going and keep going, and you leave the decision-making until later." Read more here.

Kamelot Excited About Special Guests On New Album
(TeamRock Radio) Kamelot's Thomas Youngblood says he's thrilled with the guest collaborations on his band's upcoming album. Haven - released on May 8 via Nuclear Blast - features appearances by Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz, Delain's Charlotte Wessels and Nightwish's Troy Donockley.

Youngblood says via the Tumblr: "Alissa toured with us for a while and I remember to the day seeing her with her previous band and thinking, 'This girl is amazing. She will and should be more known.' After getting the call from Arch Enemy, no one was happier or prouder than me. We had some songs that fit her style perfect and she graciously accepted the invite."

He adds of Wessels: "We toured with Delain a few times and I always felt Charlotte had a unique and special voice, so when the song Under Grey Skies was written I asked her to join in. She sounds awesome." Read more here.

Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz On Life After The Beastie Boys
(TeamRock Radio) Beastie Boys guitarist Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz admits he's been at a creative loose end since the death of Adam 'MCA' Yauch brought the band's career to an end.

Yauch passed away of cancer in 2012, leading surviving members Horovitz and Michael 'Mike D' Diamond to put the outfit on a hiatus that appears to be permanent.

Since then, they've been working on a book about their career, although it's at least two years away from publication. Horovitz tells Rolling Stone: "It's like, 'What do you do with your life when your former life is no more?' I have to figure it out - I don't know if I ever will. I'm used to having other people plan stuff for me. I don't plan anything, so at some point maybe I have to start doing that."

He hasn't been entirely idle - he plays bass in comedian Bridget Everett's band, he's filmed a role in a Ben Stiller movie and he's tied up with a sandwich shop for a charity project. Read more here.

The Moody Blues' John Lodge Previews New Solo Album

Lodge recently explained: "Back in the 60s the Moody Blues wrote a stage show which became the album Days of Future Passed. The theme encompassed the past, present and future experiences of our lives.

"With 10,000 Light Years Ago I've continued this theme of constant evolution. Everything in the future remains in reach - and although the past is behind us, it once was our future."

The Resonance Association Shelve Their New Album
(Prog) The Resonance Association have revealed that they decided to abandon plans to release their fifth album Return From Dreaming - despite having completed work on the project last year.

Post-progressive duo Dominic Hemy and Daniel Vincent launched lead track Recursor and three accompanying pieces in October, with the full LP expected in the first quarter of 2015.

But Vincent says: "We've talked about the album at some length. We can't agree on whether we're 100% happy with the tracks. We decided in the end to park it and do something else. When we're ready to record again we'll start from scratch on something new." Read more here.

Singled Out: September Mourning's Children of Fate
Today September from September Mourning tells us about their new single and fan anthem "Children of Fate" which will be part of their forthcoming studio album. Here is the story:

"Children of Fate" began with the idea of a battle cry for our fans. We wanted a song that was distinctively theirs but still integrated itself into the world of September Mourning.

The story that propels September Mourning into the music realm is about life and death, love and loss... things that people often feel at the mercy of. As if they are helpless to the ramifications of such actions. I wanted to write a song that would empower us all... that would solidify the idea that your life is in your own hands. Your choices, your decisions. That even though the chips will fall where they may, you have the power to influence and direct them into place. You can become anything and everything you have always wanted to be by just making yourself assertive in your own life and following your passions. You can make your own fate. That being said, the term "Children of Fate" was coined.

Musically, we wanted a sense of unique theatricality for the song. We chose a 6/8 tempo with a middle eastern guitar riff to lead off with. We kept the dynamics in the song very dramatic as well from verse to pre chorus to chorus. The bridge vocal literally came out of me in the first take. I wanted something that escalated to a scream and had a vibrant intensity to it. The lyric and rhythm was instinctual and just worked for the part. The chorus upholds it's battle cry feeling as it is layered vocally and almost chanted in a rhythmic pattern.

The song can be related to by anyone. We have all had times in our lives when we have felt out of control. This song lets you know that it's okay Because there are others out there that feel as you have felt, and that with courage you can overcome anything you set your mind to.
