Festival Promoter Wants Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses Reunions
(Classic Rock) Download festival promoter Andy Copping hasn't given up hope of a reunited Led Zeppelin or Guns N' Roses headlining a future Donington event.
He says: "You can't rule any bands at that level out. Led Zep, the original lineup of Guns N' Roses – I'd love to get them." He says he's close to confirming next year's headliners, although he won't name them.
"Van Halen remains on his wanted list too: "I'd love to get them, but who knows when?" he says. "Maybe one year it'll happen. I live in hope." More rock news stories.
Pink Floyd Fans Make Wish Come True
(Classic Rock) Pink Floyd have released their entire back-catalogue on Spotify after saying they'd do so on once "Wish You Were Here" had been streamed one million times.
The target figure was reached in four days. Spotify boss Ken Parks says: "It's a great day for fans of prog rock, but it's also a great day for younger fans who have yet to be really turned on to the magic of Floyd.
"That's a lot of what this is about: bringing a new generation of fans to one of the biggest and most iconic bands in the world." More rock news stories.
KISS Concert To Be Broadcast Live On TV
(hennemusic) AXS TV will air a live KISS concert from Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday, June 20. The live broadcast will take place 3 p.m. ET/noon PT, with an encore presentation 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
KISS are currently playing a mixture of headline shows and festival dates across Europe this month in support of their latest album, "Monster."
The classic rockers unveiled a new spider stage for the tour, which they unveiled recently at the tour's opening date in Stockholm – watch video here. The main feature of the new design is the spider, which brings the band to center stage at the opening of the show. more on this story
Murder Plot Suspect and As I Lay Dying Frontman Releasing New Album
(Radio.com) Being charged for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his wife somehow has not slowed down As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis' music career. The metal singer's Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired side project, Austrian Death Machine, is preparing to release Triple Brutal, the band's third full length album as the result of raising nearly $80,000 via crowd-funding.
Based on the amount donated, contributors to the Indiegogo campaign chose to receive such unique items such as having Lambesis as "your personal trainer for a month," spending a day in the studio with the band, recording vocals alongside Lambesis and for a mere $5,000 contribution, "Your initials tattooed on Tim's butt and dinner to celebrate after." Sadly, no one claimed the "Inked in Ink" tattoo offering.
"Tim finished all of his parts back before he went on tour in Asia," said the band's "Ahhnold" character in a recent post to the band's Facebook page. "He was just waiting for me to do my parts and put together the finishing touches on the mix of the album. I'm working on that this starting this week now that I have the files. The CD should be done soon and then we'll start planning to manufacture."
The soon-to-be-released disc features guests including members of Hatebreed, Death by Stereo, DevilDriver, All Shall Perish, and Bleeding Through. The album boasts a track list that reads like a Schwarzenegger SNL comedy skit with songs like "I'll Be Back," "Chill Out Dickwad," and "One More Rep." more on this story
Don Felder Explains What To Expect From Peter Frampton Tour
Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder has hit the road with Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus Tour and antiMusic's Morley Seaver recently spoke with Felder about his latest solo album 'Road to Forever' and asked what fans can expect from the shows. Here is that part of the interview.
antiMusic: You are doing a couple of short runs with the Peter Frampton show in a few weeks. How does it work? Is it like the Ringo Starr setup where everybody does a mini-set and you all play on everybody else's songs or do you just come out for your songs?
Don: I'm going to come out and sit in with Peter and his band and do probably three to four songs. I'll do a couple of Eagle songs like "Hotel". Peter will play guitar with me on "Hotel" and we'll do the harmonies. We'll do "Life in the Fast Lane" and he'll play guitar with me. We'll do Stevie Ray Vaughn's song, "Pride and Joy" so that he and I can trade off on vocals and we can trade off on guitar solos and you know, just have fun playing.
And we'll probably do "Wash Away" as well. It's been on the U.S. Classic Rock radio stations chart in the Top 10 for the last five weeks now so it's getting a lot of airplay and recognition here in the States so we're going to do that song as well. And then somewhere later in the show, I'll come out for the finale and I think he wants to do "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". So we'll trade off on that as well at the end of the show. Metallica Release Video From Surprise Kill 'Em All Performance
(hennemusic) Metallica are sharing some video of their surprise afternoon set at the Orion Music + More festival on Saturday, June 8, which saw the group perform their 1983 album, "Kill 'Em All," in its entirety.
The band have released rehearsal footage and two songs from the set: "Hit The Lights" and "Phantom Lord." The surprise began when James Hetfield appeared on stage to introduce a mystery band on the Orion bill named Dehaan.
The guitarist was joined by the other members of Metallica and the group blazed through their full debut record. Metallica fans will recognize the band name Dehaan was inspired by the band's association with actor Dane DeHaan, who plays a lead role in the group's upcoming 3D concert film, "Through The Never," due for release in September. AC/DC Classic Featured In New TV Commercial
(hennemusic) AC/DC's classic track, "Shoot To Thrill," is featured in a new commercial for US satellite company DirecTV. "Shoot To Thrill" comes from AC/DC's biggest-selling album, 1980's "Back In Black."
The ad, entitled "Chase," promotes the company's cross-device service, which lets subscribers take recorded shows to go on tablets and smartphones.
The commercial was created by ad agency Grey New York, and directed by Doug Liman, who was the director of films like The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Check out the ad here.
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Reunite
(hennemusic) Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and his wife/manager Sharon have reunited after their recent seperation from eachother and are living together again as a couple.
Sharon has moved back in with the singer after he convinced her that he's been drug- and alcohol-free for months, according to a report by gossip site TMZ.
In April, Ozzy went public with his battle with substance abuse. The couple appeared together at the Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday and went home together after the show. more on this story
Queensryche Streaming New Album Online
(Classic Rock) The version of Queensryche fronted by Todd La Torre are streamed their upcoming self-titled album online and Classic Rock Magazine is streaming all 11 tracks on their site.
The band remain locked in a legal struggle with former singer Geoff Tate, who formed his own Queensryche after being fired last year and released his album Frequency Unknown in April.
Two versions of the band will exist until November, when a court will decide which of them is allowed to keep the name. The self-titled Queensryche album will be released later this month but you can listen to it here.
Bret Michaels A Big Fan Of His Star-Packed Solo Album
(Gibson) It would be nice to have a new album of Poison material one of these days, but frontman Bret Michaels doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get the band back into the studio. His latest is Good Songs and Great Friends, an album of covers of songs from his own catalog with a few covers thrown in for good measure.
The album features guest appearances from a veritable who's who of rock luminaries, including bassists Michael Anthony (Van Halen, Chickenfoot) and Eric Brittingham (Cinderella), and guitarists Ace Frehley, (KISS), Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Frank Hannon (Tesla), Leslie West (Mountain) and his own Poison bandmate C.C. DeVille.
There are plenty of guest vocalists too, including Mark Mcgrath (Sugar Ray), Jimmy Buffett, Loretta Lynn and Robert Mason (Warrant, Lynch Mob).
The album even includes a version of Michaels' track Party Rock Band featuring late Ozzy Osbourne/Motley Crue drummer Randy Castillo. "It's really not just a Bret Michaels album," the singer says. "I had so many other talented artists come in and support that it's really a Bret Michaels & Friends album. There's a staggering amount of talent on this! Motorhead, Sabbath and Alice In Chains Winners at Golden God Awards
(hennemusic) Motorhead, Black Sabbath and Alice In Chains were just a few of the artists honored at the 2013 Metal Hammer Golden God Awards event Monday night in London.
Motorhead received the 2013 Golden God Award, which celebrates and recognizes those who have significantly contributed, shaped and inspired the world of rock and metal.
Alice In Chains picked up the Icon award, presented to an artist that has transcended their status as a heavyweight of the genre to earn the status of undisputed legend.
Black Sabbath picked up two honors, earning Best UK Band and Best Album for the newly-released project, "13." more on this story
Slayer Vow To Carry On Following Jeff Hanneman's Death
(Classic Rock) Kerry King has vowed Slayer will keep going in the name of late guitarist Jeff Hanneman. He died in May aged 49 from health issues related to heavy drinking. He'd been sidelined since 2011 after contracting necrotising fasciitis, which nearly killed him – thought to have been partly cause by his drinking.
Exodus man Gary Holt had been standing in ever since, and will continue in that role. Now King tells Entertainment Daily News: "Jeff is going to be in everybody's thoughts for a long time. It's unfortunate you can't keep unfortunate things from happening. But we're going to carry on – and he'll be there in spirit."
Speaking at the Kerrang Awards, the guitarist added: "Coming to something like this wasn't really his spiel. He wasn't an awards show kind of guy; he wanted to be the quiet guy doing his thing at the hotel." more on this story
AC/DC Inspired The Cult's Electric
(Classic Rock) The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy says the band owe a lot to AC/DC for inspiring classic album Electric. They're gearing up for a UK tour where they'll deliver the 1987 record in full.
And Duffy says its success is down to his experience of seeing Bon Scott and the Young Brothers in Manchester in 1977. He tells Guitar International: "It was a very honest record. It was the soundtrack of what we were doing at the time – just having fun going round the world.
"It owes a great debt to AC/DC. I've always been into them. I saw them with Bon Scott in Manchester and I was actually able to hit Angus' guitar with my hand while Bon carried him through the auditorium. more on this story
Keith Emerson Said No To Yes
(Classic Rock) Keith Emerson has revealed he once received a late-night phone call asking him if he'd like to join Yes, but it didn't take him long to decide the answer was "No."
The Emerson, Lake and Palmer icon had just returned from a successful world tour when Rick Wakeman made one of his several departures from Yes.
Emerson explains: "I got back to England and my phone rings at 11.30 at night. It was their then-manager, Brian Lane.
"I couldn't believe that I'd been asked if I wanted to join Yes. My response was: 'Brian, why would I want to do that? I've just come off a tour playing 14,000-seat stadiums, sold out. I've got my own band – why would I want to join Yes?'" more on this story
Iron Maiden Going Paperless For Final Maiden England Show
(hennemusic) Iron Maiden will wrap up their current "Maiden England" European tour with a homecoming show at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, August 3.
In an effort to ensure fans get fair and proper access to tickets and do not pay over the actual ticket price through scalpers or second-hand brokers, the band have announced the London show will be totally ticketless (paperless) ticketing using the latest technology.
"We are all very pleased to round off this part of the tour back home to celebrate and it promises to be a great night," explains Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. "We used ticketless (paperless) ticketing on our North American tours in 2010 and 2012 and it worked extremely well and we received many positive comments back from our fans.
"With ticketless (paperless) ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided. We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of tickets going to the secondary ticketing sites, which we feel make unfair profits from music fans and often lessen the number of tickets available to real fans, especially at the on-sale." more on this story
Dave Mustaine Avoided Controversy On New Megadeth Album
(Gibson) Dave Mustaine decided to steer away from topical subjects and focus more on matters of the heart for Megadeth's new album, Super Collider. Speaking to Billboard, the veteran guitarist said he deliberately avoided material that might stir controversy.
"[The focus was] a little bit more about human politics this time, like my mother-in-law having Alzheimer's and things like that," Mustaine explained. "Not everybody watches the news, so when you tell somebody that this is going on, that's going on, this guy's part of a cover-up, this guy is a philanderer, they don't want to hear it. But if you say, 'Hey, my mother-in-law has Alzheimer's,' or something they might have going on in their life, too, all of a sudden you've got that bond. So I figured I would write about what goes on inside my heart instead of inside my head this time …."
Super Collider debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200, the band's strongest chart-showing since 1994's Youthanasia. Megadeth will launch their Gigantour on July 3 in Gilford, New Hampshire, along with fellow metal bands Black Label Society, Device, Hellyeah, Newsted and Death Division. more on this story
Airbourne Didn't Rush New Album
(Classic Rock) Airbourne frontman Joel O'Keeffe admits the band cut corners while they were making second album No Guts No Glory. But they made sure they didn't make the same mistake with new record Black Dog Barking.
"We might have rushed a few things here and there, because we had two world tours back to back up against each other, " O'Keeffe tells KROCK105.7. "We recorded the music just in the middle of all that. We even had some shows between recording.
"This time, we spaced it out. We worked with producer Brian Howes – he loves the same kind of music that we do like Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest and Elvis.
"He always wanted to make a rock'n'roll record but he never got the chance to. When we worked with him it was very comfortable. We got to do this right." He had more to say.
Mike Portnoy's Final Show With Adrenaline Mob His Best Ever
(Classic Rock) Mike Portnoy admits that he is sad that he is leaving Adrenaline Mob after he played his final show with the supergroup this past weekend in Brazil.
He recently explained scheduling problems with his new outfit The Winery Dogs meant it wasn't possible for him to commit to Adrenaline Mob duties.
His final gig included guest spots with Tim 'Ripper' Owens and Lzzy Hale. Portnoy says: "Amazing final show – maybe one of the best we ever had.
"Sad to see this chapter end. I hope some day down the road our schedules can re-align and we can make some more magic together." More rock news stories.
Mick Jagger's Hair and Bowie Lyrics For Sale
(Classic Rock) A lock of Mick Jagger's hair and handwritten David Bowie lyrics of Jean Genie are amongst a range of rock memorabilia items up for auction by Bonham's on July 3.
The firm thinks the hair will go for up to £2000 while the lyrics will fetch up to £15,000. The auction will also include animation drawings from Pink Floyd's The Wall movie.
Other items in the auction include a letter from Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, John Entwistle handwritten sleeve notes, a scarf worn on stage by Jimi Hendrix, Cream tour paperwork and an Afghan coat owned by Marc Bolan. More rock news stories.
Angry Anderson Not Angry Enough For Politics?
(Classic Rock) Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson has been told that he's too nice for politics and if he wants to win his upcoming election he'll need to learn to attack.
He's been pre-selected to take part in the next federal election."I'm told by veteran politicians that you have to be an animal to be in politics. I assume they're talking about survival instincts, not behaviour," Anderson tells the Sydney Morning Herald. "I've been learning how to be a go-for-the-throat attack dog. Apparently I'm too nice a guy to be considered a politician."
Anderson says his motives are simple: "I want the forgotten people to have a voice. There are a lot of us out there who feel we're not being heard or listened to. I want to be the voice of the common man." more on this story
Lynyrd Skynyrd Celebrate 40th Anniversary In The Studio
(hennemusic) The 40th anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album is featured on this week's edition of In The Studio. Skynyrd guitarists Gary Rossington and Ed King join host Redbeard to talk about the album classic.
Released in August of 1973, "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd" was the first offering from the Southern Rock band out of Jacksonville, FL.
The album's 8 tracks include Skynyrd standards like "Gimme Three Steps," "Simple Man" and "Tuesday's Gone," and the song that would become one of their signature tunes, "Freebird." more on this story
Black Sabbath Explain 'God Is Dead?'
(hennemusic) Black Sabbath have just released their new album, "13." Produced by Rick Rubin, the project is the first by the band with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978's "Never Say Die."
Guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler sat down with NME TV to explain the meaning behind the album's controversially named lead track, "God Is Dead?"
"Ozzy came out with the title," explain Geezer, the group's lyricist. "I was going 'you can't sing that.' He wanted to keep it in, so I wrote the rest of the words around that. It's about a religious fanatic, somebody that's been told that God is dead and he wants to prove that God is alive and well. That's what the song is about."

Shinedown Release 'I'll Follow You' Video
(Classic Rock) Shinedown have released a new music video for their track "I'll Follow You" and Classic Rock Magazine is currently streaming the video on their website.
track "I'll Follow You" comes from their fourth album, Amaryllis, which came out last year but still seems to be delivering the goods for Brent Smith and co.
They recently announced a US tour alongside Papa Roach, Skillet, In This Moment and We As Human, which kicks off in mid-August in Cleveland, Ohio, and ends a month later in Sacramento, California. Watch the new video here.
Lissie Releases Shameless
(Classic Rock) Lissie is back with a new song called "Shameless." After covering Zep's Stairway To Heaven, having her great Fleetwood Mac rendition (Go Your Own Way) featured on a Twinings advert and guest-starring on (whisper it) Robbie Williams' last album, she's heralding the upcoming release of her second album with the attitude-packed Shameless.
A blistering take on the fame game and style-over-substance celebrities, the song showcases Lissie's tougher, gutsier side. We're particularly digging the chorus:
"I don't want to be famous / If I got to be shameless / If you don't know what my name is / So what, so what?" Check it out and watch out for an appearance by Lissie's pet dog Byron at the end
