Jon Bon Jovi Controversy Over Buffalo Bills Rumors
(Radio.com) An investment group that includes Jon Bon Jovi is looking to buy the NFL team the Buffalo Bills, according to The Hollywood Reporter. One of Bon Jovi's partners is Larry Tanenbaum, the chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which controls the NBA's Raptors and NHL's Maple Leafs. Meanwhile, Bon Jovi is the former co-owner of the Arena Football League team the Philadelphia Soul.
The Hollywood Reporter's article also notes that the group is looking to build a new stadium in the Toronto area, which, if true, would likely be met with its share of controversy.
That's because under terms of the team's lease with the state and county, the Bills are not allowed to negotiate with anyone who, to their knowledge, has an intention of relocating the team before the end of the 2022 season, when the lease ends.
The team is being sold following the death of Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson in March. Although the Bon Jovi-led group has not said that the change in ownership would move the team from Buffalo, many believe that it is their intent to do so. More on that here.
Black Stone Cherry Robbed
(Classic Rock) Black Stone Cherry have appealed to fans to help find stolen equipment after their storage space was broken into. The band lost eight guitars, a set of cymbals a bass amp and more when thieves raided their shed in Glasgow, Kentucky.
BSC, who are currently touring in support of fourth album Magic Mountain, have posted pictures of the missing instruments. The band had the following to say in a statement:
"We normally wouldn't post about stuff like this, but these items mean a lot to us and we want to find them. If anyone knows the whereabouts, sees them anywhere or has any information, please contact the police." more on this story
Mike Portnoy Calls Out Dream Theater Fan Over T-Shirt
(TeamRock Radio) Mike Portnoy has asked fans to show some sensitivity after being offended when a man appeared at a meet-and-greet wearing a Dream Theater shirt promoting the first album they made without him.
The drummer sensationally quit the band in 2010, leading to a chain of emotional claims and counter-claims from both parties - and although he tried to rejoin months later, they refused his approach because Mike Mangini had already been given his role. They went on to release eleventh studio album A Dramatic Turn Of Events in 2011, inspired by the lineup change and the adjustment of dynamic within the band.
Portnoy, who's currently touring with latest project the Winery Dogs, told of his unhappiness after a fan met him at a signing session in New York last week.
He wrote on Facebook: "Somebody came to my signing wearing a Dramatic Turn Of Events shirt. Really? Couldn't find a DT shirt from 1985-2010? Please try to use some sensibility/sensitivity when choosing a shirt for an MP event." That's when the controversy began.
Original Hole Reunion Appears Over
(TeamRock Radio) Courtney Love has quashed hopes of reunion gigs with Hole's original lineup, saying she couldn't live on the oldies circuit. Despite getting back in the studio recently with guitarist Eric Erlandson, bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur and drummer Patty Schemel, it appears Erlandson is now the only member to still be on board.
In an interview with Inquirer.net, Love says: "I don't want to get on the oldies circuit. I don't need to do that for money. I want to put out music that is relevant today. Being one of the last chicks in a rock and roll band is a weird place to be. It's scary not to be selling out."
The original members reunited in April for rehearsals and hopes were high the foursome would produce a follow up to 2002's Celebrity Skin. However, just a week later, Love indicated tensions in the group were high, after she leaked news of a possible reunion to the press. more on this story
Iron Maiden Fans Launch Online Petition
(Classic Rock) A group of Iron Maiden fans have launched an online petition to have Derek Riggs brought back on board as the band's artist. Riggs, who's credited with inventing the band's Eddie mascot, created every album cover from 1980's self-titled debut until 1990's No Prayer For The Dying, before his contribution was reduced.
There's been a flurry of online petition activity recently, with haters of Ghost launching a campaign to have the band split, and supporters lashing back with a counter-campaign.
Now Maiden fan Derek Tigner from the USA has joined the movement, and he's secured nearly 400 signatures on his petition. He says: "Derek Riggs' artwork and visual direction is second to none. Many fans view his artwork to be as influential as the music Maiden produces." more on this story
Metallica's Kirk Hammett Guests On New Exodus Album
(Classic Rock) Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has confirmed that he has recorded a guitar solo on upcoming Exodus album Blood In, Blood Out. And he enjoyed guesting with the band he named before he moved on to replaces Dave Mustaine in James Hetfield and co's band.
The idea arose in February, when it was confirmed Hammett would guest with Exodus on stage at his Fear FestEvil event, and said it would be a "great idea" if he was invited into the studio with them.
He tells Rolling Stone: "It felt really casual, really cool - just it did back in 1980 when we were all hanging out." He adds: "Recording a solo on their album was a huge thing for me. Other than the demo that's been heard by a lot of people, it's the only time I've ever recorded with Exodus."
More details here.
Ace Frehley Says KISS Didn't Play Rock Hall Over Reunion Talk Fears
(hennemusic) Ace Frehley says he believes that one of the reasons the original KISS lineup did not perform at their spring induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame was over fears by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley that it would lead to talk of a reunion.
"After 40 years, you think they could have given the fans 15 minutes that night," Frehley tells the Daily Express. "Peter and I wanted to perform, the Hall of Fame wanted us to do it, but Paul and Gene shot it down. It was a moment in history that was lost and some of the fans will never forgive them for that."
"But I'll tell you why Paul and Gene didn't wanna perform with me and Peter - they were afraid of history repeating itself," he continued. "When me and Peter performed with them on the MTV Unplugged sessions in 1995, the place went completely crazy and they had to scrap their album that they had just recorded with Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer and they had to do a reunion tour.
"They're on tour right now with Tommy (Thayer) and Eric (Singer) and they didn't want anything to overshadow that. They were afraid that everyone was gonna demand a reunion again if we played." He had more to say.
Upon A Burning Body Frontman Unrepentant About Kidnap PR Stunt
(TeamRock Radio) Upon A Burning Body frontman Danny Leal is unrepentant about his recent "kidnap" publicity stunt - and he's vowed to "take it even further" in the future.
He found himself at the centre of a furious backlash after setting up a string of tweets that suggested his house was being watched, someone had broken in, and then he'd disappeared.
But Leal claims he doesn't care. He tells Ice T's Final Level podcast: "We did a little bit of a publicity thing. We said I was missing, then they turned it into this big thing and it became a pretty serious issue.
"People were calling the cops, stuff like that. It became a thing, and everybody now hates what we did. Whatever," he said. "They're blaming me - it's like, you know what? I'm going to come out with ropes on my hands, put the ropes on, and take it even further." more on this story
Megadeth's Mustaine Rules Out Menza and Friedman Return
(Classic Rock) Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine says bringing back ex-members Marty Friedman and Nick Menza would be like "putting a rotten tooth back in your mouth."
He admits he still receives requests to have the fired pair rejoin the band - but insists there's no chance of it ever happening. Drummer Menza was behind the kit between 1989 and 1998 while guitarist Friedman spent a decade with Mustaine from 1990. Both first appeared on fourth studio album Rust In Peace while Menza departed after Cryptic Writings and Friedman was gone following eighth outing Risk.
Asked whether fans still demand their return, Mustaine tells Loaded Radio: "Yeah - but that makes as much sense as somebody saying, 'Put a rotten tooth back in your mouth.' I've seen stuff that Menza's been saying and it's unfortunate. I know Marty's happy doing what he's doing.
"If I wanted to get them back I would have worked it out - but I don't." more on this story
Avenged Sevenfold Planning Next Album
(TeamRock Radio) Avenged Sevenfold are turning their thoughts to their seventh album - and guitarist Zacky Vengeance says he's been inspired to write material by watching Ice T's Body Count.
Last year's Hail To The King, their first with drummer Arin Ilejay, propelled the band to number one in the UK and US, and was certified gold in the States two weeks ago.
But they're not planning to rest on their laurels when they complete their current touring schedule next month. Vengeance tells Billboard: "Once we get home the ideas are going to start brewing.
"Synyster Gates has been writing a ton, purely for fun, trying different styles, keeping himself busy. I've been thinking of all sorts of ideas, listening to different music to get inspiration, as have all of us.
"Being on tour I'm so inspired, seeing bands like Body Count - they're so old-school and riff-based, over the top and slightly offensive. It's f***ing awesome. So there's tons of inspiration I knew we'll be drawing from."

Jon Anderson Announces New Band
(Prog) Former Yes vocalist Jon Anderson has unveiled his latest project featuring jazz-fusion violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and says he's delighted to be working in a band again.
The Anderson Ponty Band is co-fronted by Ponty, known for his work with Frank Zappa, John McLaughlin, Return To Forever and more. It also features guitarist Jamie Dunlap, keyboardist Wally Minko, bassist Baron Browne and drummer Rayford Griffin.
They launch their live career with a three-week residency in Aspen, Colorado, and they've launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the recording of their debut album.
Anderson says: "A breakthrough feeling came as I sang with Jean-Luc's music. To be in a band again is exciting on so many levels. We'll play and sing our way round the world and have fun - for music is please, music is all that is, music is God!" more on this story
Paul Gilbert's Favorite Singers Inspired New Instrumental Album
Shrapnel Records have announced that Paul Gilbert's new instrumental album "Stone Pushing Uphill Man" will be released on August 5th in North America in both physical and digital formats.
The Mr. Big and Racer X guitarist had this to say about the new album, "For my new 'Stone Pushing Uphill Man' album, I decided to bring my guitar to the forefront and let it sing.
"To do this, I used the inspiration of my favorite singers. Paul McCartney, Steven Tyler, Elton John, James Brown, Sting, k.d. lang, and more. These voices are always in my head. With my guitar I could finally reach their high notes.
"The challenge was to match their emotion and expression. This was my goal as a guitarist. 'Stone Pushing Uphill Man,' is the first big step to truly find my voice on the guitar.
"I wanted the inspiration of my favorite singers for such a big challenge, so I chose a lot of cover songs. I think listeners will be surprised at what I've been able to do with the guitar". more on this story
Edgar Winter Pay Tribute To His Brother Johnny Winter
(Classic Rock) Edgar Winter has spoken of his shock at the sudden death of brother Johnny - and he's called his elder sibling a hero. The singer has also confirmed that his upcoming US tour will consist of songs associated with the guitarist, who died on tour earlier this month aged 70.
Edgar says: "My wife, Monique, and I are shocked at the suddenness of Johnny's passing, especially since I was looking forward to seeing him again and playing together. I know his body is departing this physical realm, but his presence, his music and his spirit are undiminished, and alive as ever in my heart.
"Johnny has always been, is now and will for ever remain my greatest musical hero. But more than that, he's my brother, in family, in music, in life and beyond. I will do my best to carry on in honour of his memory and the Winter name."
Edgar has some special plans for his upcoming tour.

The former White Stripes frontman is currently playing shows on a US tour in support of his new album, "Lazaretto", which recently delivered his second US No. 1 album. more on this story

In total, the release features 13 tracks, including a cover version of The Prodigy's Firestarter. Check out the tracklisting and the bonus material details here.
Tom Petty Targets The Kardashians
(Radio.com) What's the biggest problem with American culture? If you're Tom Petty, your answer would be the Kardashians. In an interview with UK tabloid The Sun, the legendary musician said the reality TV star family is to blame for America's obsession with celebrity and conspicuous consumption.
Petty recalled the simpler times he grew up in, before the onset of reality TV. "I'm old enough to have lived in a country where, if you were willing to work hard, you could have a fairly nice life," he said.
"You could support a family and even get a shot at owning your home, but you never thought you'd get a swimming pool. Now the culture has hypnotized people into thinking they're really nothing if they're not wealthy and a Kardashian." more on this story
David Crosby Discusses Next Solo Album Plans
(Classic Rock) David Crosby says he won't keep fans waiting too long for his next solo album. The two-time Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee released his fourth solo album Croz this year and admits he was surprised by the positive reception it received.
So much so that he is already working on new material for a follow-up to what was his first solo effort since 1993. The CSN, CSNY and Byrds hero tells WGN Radio: "That Croz record, I'm really proud of it. I'm thinking about making another one now because Croz did really well. Surprise surprise.
"And I have these new songs coming. I have two new ones and another one on the way. I'm writing four songs with other people and they are coming out really good. I'm probably going to make another record." more on this story

Metallica's Ride The Lightning and AC/DC's Highway To Hell Milestones
(hennemusic) Sunday marked two significant anniversaries in heavy rock, the 30th anniversary of Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" and the 35th anniversary of AC/DC's "Highway To Hell".
Released July 27, 1984, Metallica's sophomore album was recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Flemming Rasmussen, who would go on to oversee the band's next two albums.
"Ride The Lightning" features several Metallica concert staples, including the single "Creeping Death", "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and "Fade To Black."
AC/DC's, "Highway To Hell was released July 27, 1979 and the project catapulted the Australian rockers into the mainstream with singles like "Girls Got Rhythm", "Touch Too Much" and the title track.
"Highway To Hell" was the first AC/DC album not produced by Harry Vanda and George Young. Pre-production of the album began in January 1979 with demos cut at Albert Studios in Sydney, Australia, where they met the intended producer, Eddie Kramer. Kramer was fired before a single track had been completed, and Robert John "Mutt" Lange was brought in to replace him. More.
Singled Out: Colt 45's O.K.
Today Colt 45 frontman Neil Harper tells us about the song "O.K." from their brand new album "The Tide Is Turning," which is being released this week. Here is the story:
OK is a song about life. A song about growing up, a song about changing your opinions. A couple of years ago I had the view that life was a real struggle and always would be. Coming from a musician it's pretty cliché, but for me life had always been a bit of a drag - it's had been boring and I'd never been happy with the cards I was dealt.
Then one day, oddly, it started to look like they were going my way. COLT 45 was playing shows most nights and we gained more interest than we ever thought we would! I moved into a new flat and met someone I had an instant connection with. Someone who made me think and feel things completely different to how I had in the past.
I'm always at my most honest in the music that COLT 45 have made. I suppose the songs are kinda like little snapshots into my life, my thoughts at a certain point in time, and O.K. is no different.
Musically, the song came from an idea Adam showed me. He had the guitar riff and a few chords. Then when I sat down and started playing the riff I already had the idea for the melody in my head but hadn't used it and it fit perfectly. The rest pretty much wrote itself - I took the 'blueprint' into the practice room and we all worked on the arrangement and dynamics until we were happy. It was quite a quick one to write to be honest!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the band and their new album right here!

The first show, on March 31, 1974, saw Queen perform tracks from their newly-released album, "Queen II." The set features over a dozen tracks never previously released on any official Queen live album.
Recorded by Roy Thomas Baker, the recordings were originally scheduled to become Queen's third album (and debut live album), presented as a career-defining release like James Brown's "Live At The Apollo" or The Who's "Live At Leeds." But Queen's creative momentum produced a stack of new songs begging to be recorded and instead of releasing the live album, the band went into the studio to record what was to become 1974's breakthrough album, "Sheer Heart Attack."

Classic George Harrison Interview Animated
(Radio.com) The latest Minimation, animated interview from New York radio station WNEW-FM's acrchives, features an 1987 interview with George Harrison, where he recalled meeting his fellow Beatles, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
"I think anything impressed me… in those days!" By 1987, George Harrison wasn't impressed with much: after the Beatles called it a day. George made a bunch of solo albums, but by the late '80s, had slowed down his output considerably, although he'd just returned with Cloud Nine, his first album in five years - a long time between albums back then. That was a top ten album, and yielded the No. 1 hit single, "Got My Mind Set On You." Another song on the album, "When We Was Fab," saw him looking back on his days as a member of the Fab Four.
In the interview, Harrison takes umbrage with the way the Beatles' history was being told. "I think a lot has been written about how John was the big hero. Paul certainly said [Lennon] was our own Elvis. Well, we certainly liked him and loved him like that, but we were all hot to trot."
The year after this interview, Harrison formed a new band, the Traveling Wilburys, with Bob Dylan (one of his biggest influences) and Roy Orbison, as well as two Beatlemaniacs, Tom Petty and former Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne. Their debut, Vol. 1, was also a top ten album, and was certified triple platinum, proving the George was still "hot to trot," all those years later.
This minimation was created for Radio.com by MB X McClain. Watch it here.

The follow-up to 2012's "Apocalyptic Love" once again sees the guitarist working with his touring band, Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators, and producer Michael Baskette.
