Today's Day in Rock
Previously Unheard Jimi Hendrix Song Now Streaming Online
(Classic Rock) One of Jimi Hendrix's earliest recordings has been streamed ahead of an album containing his work with Curtis Knight & The Squires. Station Break is an instrumental piece, recorded in 1965 before the axe icon established his place in musical history.
It's taken from You Can't Use My Name: The RSVO/PPX Sessions, which is released on March 24. Veteran engineer Eddie Kramer cleaned up the original tapes, saying: "We've taken every performance as far back as we could do in terms of source, stripped them back, remixed them and made the best representation of these recordings."
Hendrix said in 1967 of his time with Knight: "I was a backing musician playing guitar. I was always kept in the background - but I was thinking all the time about what I wanted to do."
Foo Fighters Releasing Early Recordings
(hennemusic) The Foo Fighters will release "Songs From The Laundry Room", a 10-inch vinyl collection of early demos and an unreleased track as part of Record Store Day 2015 on April 18.
Recorded at Barrett Jones' Laundry Room Studios in Seattle, Washington, the package features demos of "Alone + Easy Target" and "Big Me", a cover of Kim Wilde's "Kids In America" and a previously unreleased song, "Empty Handed."
Head Foo Fighter Dave Grohl was recently named 2015 Record Story Day Ambassador. The annual event is held the third Saturday of every April and is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. Megadeth Begin Recording New Album Next Week
(hennemusic) Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine confirms the band are continuing to audition guitarists as they search for a replacement for Chris Broderick, who left the group last fall.
On Tuesday, Mustaine tweeted: "I'm excited to be auditioning one of my final picks for my new guitarist today." The frontman also confirmed the band will begin recording the follow-up to 2013's "Super Collider" next week. He writes: "One more week! Load in for the next record starts 3/17. So pumped!!"
Bassist David Ellefson recently confirmed Megadeth are moving forward with plans to hit the studio to record a new album as planned with as-yet-to-be-announced new members in place of recently departed duo. Read more here.
Tom DeLonge Reveals New Song Called 'New World'
(Radio.com) Blink-182 fans might still be grieving over Tom DeLonge's recent sorta-departure from the band, but the guitarist and vocalist is already onto the next thing.
After announcing his debut solo album To the Stars ' Demos, Odds and Ends, DeLonge has shared the first taste of it, fittingly titled "New World." The sounds are right on brand for the Blink-182 founding member.
It's a nostalgic pop punk track that sounds in-part inspired by his departure from the band: "My head will ache, I brave the fire/ Yeah, I found a new world/ My heart awaits, the grand design/ I found a new door," he sings. And if it has origins that precede 2015, well, it certainly is a fitting soundtrack nonetheless.
Out April 21, To the Stars ' Demos, Odds and Ends compiles new material written by DeLonge as well as sketches and demos that were written for Blink-182. Check out the new song and read more here.
Dillinger Escape Plan Overwhelmed By Metallica Star's Praise
(TeamRock Radio) The Dillinger Escape Plan say they've been floored after Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett tweeted about them. He linked to the video of their 2010 track Farewell, Mona Lisa, from fourth album Option Paralysis and praised the band.
Hammett said: "The breakdown/building in this song f***ing kills. Stay weird, Dillinger!" Responding to a fan comment, Hammett later added: "Yeah bro - TDEP are sick! Ignore anyone who says different!"
Greg Puciato and co were moved to make their own statement. They reported: "This is just too much. Knock it off, life. Excuse us while we mop our childhood thrash filled brains up off the floor.
"Those of you who have been on this ride with us for a long time will share the excitement/confusion over this 'what is life' moment." Read more here.
Bruce Springsteen Going Back To Early Years For RSD Releases
(hennemusic) Bruce Springsteen will issue his first seven albums on vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2015 on April 18th and he will also be releasing a special box set.
Available as seven individual 12" vinyl, the records were recently reissued as part of "The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984", a box set featuring remastered versions on both vinyl and CD.
The albums include "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ" (1973), "The Wild, The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle" (1973), "Born To Run" (1975), "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" (1978), "The River" (1980), "Nebraska" (1982) and "Born In The U.S.A" (1984).

Blink-182 Announce Another Show With Matt Skiba As Frontman
(TeamRock Radio) Blink-182 have confirmed a second show with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba in place of Tom DeLonge. Skiba had been named as temporary frontman for the band's appearance at the Musink Festival in California on March 22.
Skiba was named as the fill-in after relationships broke down between DeLonge and former colleagues Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker. Now the duo have confirmed they'll play with Skiba on March 20 at Soma in San Diego.
The situation remains strained after the remaining original members announced their "indefinite" split from DeLonge in January - but he insisted he hadn't left. Read more here.
Green Day Singer Opening Music Store
(Gibson) Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is about to open his very own music store in Oakland, California. According to the East Bay Express, the store, called Broken Guitars, will open on April 3 at 423 40th Street.
It was formerly the location of indie store and record label 1-2-3-4 Go Records, but they've moved across the street. Armstrong's partner in the venture is Bill Schneider, who plays with Armstrong in the punk band Pinhead Gunpowder. Schneider and Armstrong helped 1-2-3-4 Go owner Steve Stevenson to create a back-room concert space at their new premises.
The name of the new store was inspired by the famous 'This guitar has seconds to live' poster of The Who's Pete Townshend about to send a Gibson Les Paul to its untimely end. Read more here.
Deftones Releasing New Album This Year
(Classic Rock) Deftones' eighth album is expected in September or October - and the work is "a little screwy" when compared to their previous material, says frontman Chino Moreno.
The band are still preparing the follow-up to 2012's Koi No Yokan, after having wound up with more material than ever before ahead of studio sessions.
Moreno tells Rolling Stone: "It's a little more of a heady record. We've gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight we took a left turn. We tried something completely opposite - not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things." Read more here.
Don Dokken's Voice 'Isn't What It Used To be' Says Lynch
(Classic Rock) George Lynch has taken another swipe at former bandmate Don Dokken - saying the singer's voice "isn't what it used to be." Lynch has recently released an album with Michael Sweet called Only To Rise and says the experience of working with the Stryper man was a pleasure compared to his days with Dokken.
Guitarist Lynch tells NI Rocks: "We thought we could bring back the sort of chemistry that existed with me and Dokken in that era. I felt that Don's voice isn't really what it used to be these days and he's kind of hard to work with and deal with.
"Michael is the opposite. He has really taken care of his voice. He's a phenomenal singer and obviously he is really driven and inspired. He works hard and is really straight-up and honest and dependable without any drama." Read more here.
Tank Release New Album Details
(Classic Rock) Tank have revealed the tracklist and cover art for their upcoming new album. The NWOBHM veterans release Valley Of Tears on June 8 after extending their deal with Metal Mind Productions.
Guitarists Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans are joined on the new record by former Dragonforce singer ZP Theart, who has toured with the band for the last two years.
The album is Evans' and Tucker's version of the band's follow-up to 2012's War Nation. Fortmer singer Algy Ward launched his own version of Tank and issued the album Breath Of The Pit in 2013.
Evans says: "The title comes from the famous tank battle during the 1973 Yom Kippur War where one side was massively outnumbered but fought on regardless and against all odds secured a heroic victory." Read more including the tracklist and see the cover art here.
Green Jelly Going Old School For Home Video
(Classic Rock) Green Jelly have launched a crowdfunding appeal to help produce what will be a very limited edition VHS tape featuring the band on tour. The band have had more than 600 members down the years, including Maynard James Keenan, Danny Carey, Weird Al Yankovic and Hulk Hogan.
Drummer Rob Gabriele, boss of one of the outfit's "regional franchises," is behind the Kickstarter campaign. The aim is to follow the band on a short tour of Ontario, Canada, and use the resulting footage to put together a concert and behind-the-scenes movie.
Green Jelly Suxx Live will never be made available anywhere else - only fans who support the campaign will ever own the videotape and accompanying digital edition.
Gabriele says: "Before Gwar, before Slipknot, hell even before Nintendo, there was Green Jelly, the Godfathers of punk rock puppets. It's been three years since I joined, playing one or two gigs annually. This year will be different. I booked a four-day tour of Ontario. I'm ecstatic.
"We will be filming the entire tour and professionally recording audio from one of the gigs. The release will be 60-90 minutes, limited to only copies of VHS and will not be available after this campaign." Read more here.

The Swedish metallers will issue the limited edition, three-disc package on April 6 via Nuclear Blast. It includes two CDs of live tracks recorded on last year's Sabaton Cruise, as well as the original Heroes album.
Meanwhile, Sabaton star in the current issue of Metal Hammer magazine, in which singer Joakim Broden encourages up-and-coming bands to keep going, even when things don't look so promising.
He says: "For f***'s sake, if we can make it, with all the mistakes we've made - if somebody comes and does it right, they'll run past us in a heartbeat. There's no manual to heavy metal." Check out the album details here.

Raging Speedhorn, Godsized Lead Bloodstock Open Air Additions
(TeamRock Radio) Bloodstock Open Air, Britain's premier heavy metal festival has bolstered its line-up once more with five additions across the main stage and Sophie stage for this year's installment of the festival this summer.
Making their way to the main stage are the recently reunited sludge heroes Raging Speedhorn. It'll be awesome to share the stage with some of our old friends like Orange Goblin and Napalm Death. See you down the front!"
Speedhorn will be joined by proggy metallers Xerath who'll be hitting Derbyshire on the Friday for their main stage debut, which the band say "promises to almost certainly be a career defining moment for the band."

The band - guitarist and vocalist Lord Ragnar Wagner, bassist Rotted Skull, drummer Evil E and guitarist Count Marcel La Vey - issued a video for their track Burn Witch Burn last summer, just prior to their performance at Bloodstock in August.
Skull tells Metal As F***: "It's been a good first year for us. We were born last March, we played at Bloodstock and we also finished our album - so our goal for this first year has been achieved.
"We're starting to see all the classic bands get to retirement age. In the next five to ten years, metal might go further underground. Watch out for The Heretic Order in 2015 - be very afraid!" Read more here.

His words carry a message to those who have had to deal with the issue.
Hellyeah say: "The lyrics to Hush discuss Chad's personal experience growing up in a home with domestic violence, and aim to shed light on a hidden subject while letting other survivors know they're not alone."
The band add: "No More is a unifying movement focused on engaging bystanders to end violence and sexual assault. No More Week is designed to spark conversations around the issues, and galvanize communities, organization and corporations to make them a priority." Read more here.

It explores sounds from as far afield as Greece, Azerbaijan, the deep American South, Sahara desert and beyond, from all our yesterdays, evoking the ancient past."
The former Genesis guitarist last month confirmed Flower Kings mastermind Roine Stolt as a member of his band for his 2015 tour dates, which include a run of UK appearances in October. See the dates and watch the video here.

In the 21st-century version, co-founders Clive Bayley and Bob Hagger are joined by Tony Kaye, Billy Sherwood and Hugo Barre.
Sherwood, who produced the album, recently admitted: "On hearing Mabel Greer's Toyshop wanted to get back together after so long, I was sceptical about how it would all sound. To my surprise, it was actually very cool - not only will this new album appeal to diehard Yes fans, but also to a whole new breed of followers. It's such an exciting project to be involved with."
The New Way Of Life video was shot during band rehearsals in France and features Bayley, Hagger and Barre with guitarist Alex Keren and vocalist Annouchka Bayley. Watch the video here.

The Welsh outfit last month split with bass player Jason 'Jay' James and said they would announce a replacement in due course. They added: "Until then we're gonna be busy recording our next record, and making sure it's the best album we've ever made." Check out the video here.
The Tangent Streaming New Song 'A Spark In The Aether'
(Prog) The Tangent have launched a stream of A Spark In The Aether, the title track of the band's eighth album. It will be released on April 20 via InsideOut and sees mainman Andy Tillison joined by Jonas Reingold, Theo Travis, Luke Machin and Morgan Agren.
Tillison says: "In many ways it's a bit of a rallying cry to people to keep open minds about newer music in a world where remasters and reissues are more eagerly anticipated than new material. But it's a hugely optimistic piece that's primarily about keeping a young spirit as you go through life."
The promo was created from YouTube clips shot by fans. Tillison explains: "We wanted a video that showed the real energy of the band on stage - something that has always been important to the group.
"We've never set much store by big light shows or video projections. 'We do it with our bodies' is the philosophy. And what the fans do with our music, we use and give back to them." Stream the song here.
Singled Out: Santa Cruz's My Remedy
Today Helsinki hard rockers Santa Cruz's frontman Archie Kuosmanen tell us about the song "My Remedy" which comes from their brand new self-titled album (out in North America this week). Here is the story:
Our new single My Remedy is basically a story of trying to escape reality what ever the way. It's about when the surrounding world is inch away from suffocating you. But still doesn't mean that all hope is gone it's more like a reach out to somebody to drag him out of the quicksand he's sinking in.
Riff was handed to Johnny by an elf who flew into his bedroom in a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket after he sacrificed 4 white goats to gods of rock 'n' roll in this darkened room covered with posters of Miley Cyrus.
But really the song is pretty much based around this riff with a RATM feel in it, juiced up with a chorus that is meant to be stuck in your head for the rest of the week.
We feel that we found our own voice and sound on this new self-titled album and "My Remedy" is the perfect example of it, which makes it my favorite song on the album.
