Today's Day In Rock News!

Def Leppard Postpone Tour Kick Off Due To Illness(hennemusic)

Def Leppard were forced to postpone Wednesday's launch of their US tour due to illness within the group. While the group did not provide further details regarding the health issue, frontman Joe Elliott was recently forced to sit out part of the band's inaugural "Hysteria On The High Seas" cruise after coming down with "severe laryngitis."
"The Def Leppard concert scheduled to take place at the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday January 27 has been postponed due to illness," announced the band. "A new date will be announced soon. Please continue to hold on to your tickets as tickets purchased for the January concert will be honored on the new date - no exchange necessary."

Unable to perform a January 23 show on the cruise, several rockers filled in for Elliott - including Last In Line's Andrew Freeman, Mr. Big's Eric Martin and Winger's Kip Winger - with some additional help from Def Leppard guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell. Read more here.

Guns N' Roses Reunion Lineup Speculation Heats Up With Band Exit(hennemusic)

Guns N' Roses members Richard Fortus and Dizzy Reed have announced their exit from The Dead Daisies to be part of "a momentous project in 2016."
The move fuels further speculation about the longtime players' participation in GNR's reunion tour, which to date has only confirmed the involvement of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan.

Keyboardist Reed has been in the GNR lineup since 1990, while guitarist Fortus has been on board since 2002. Guns N' Roses will launch the reunion run with a pair of shows at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 8 and April 9 - just two days after the venue's opening on April 6.

The band will then headline Coachella on April 16 and 23 as part of the two-weekend event. Former Whitesnake and Dio guitarist Doug Aldrich has taken Fortus' spot in The Dead Daisies as they begin work on a new album in Nashville with producer Marti Fredericksen. Read more here.

AC/DC Take Preemptive Move Against Counterfeiters(hennemusic)

AC/DC have reportedly filed a federal lawsuit to block all non-authorized sales of its merchandise during their upcoming US tour. TMZ reports the band - who earned $180 million on the Rock Or Bust world tour last year - have taken the preemptive move against counterfeiters for US shows starting next week.
"Y'know, most of the those guys you see hawking t-shirts and hats outside the arena - the band's filed a federal lawsuit to get cops to shut them down," says TMZ. "The tour starts February 2 in Tacoma, and they're asking the court to launch a full scale attack - sending US Marshals and cops to the Tacoma Dome to arrest all offenders and seize all bogus goods. They're asking for the same show of force in other cities too."

The tour marks the return of guitarist Stevie Young and drummer Chris Slade to the lineup following the retirement of founder Malcolm Young and a series of legal issues faced by longtime member Phil Rudd. Read more here.

Bruce Springsteen Added Dates To The River Tour(hennemusic)

Bruce Springsteen has expanded The River Tour in support of a recently-issued 7-disc box set marking the 35th anniversary of the 1980 double-album.
The New Jersey rocker has added 14 US dates to the end of the current North American run that began January 16 in Pittsburgh, PA and confirmed a May 19 appearance in Portugal to headline the first night of Rock In Rio festival in Lisboa.

The new US shows will begin with a third and final date at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on March 19 and finish April 25 at New York's Barclays Center.

The run also includes a rescheduled Madison Square Garden concert, postponed Sunday due to a blizzard in New York; Springsteen returns to the venue for the make-up performance on March 28.

Last month, Springsteen issued "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection", which presents the original record alongside "The River: Single Album" - originally named "The Ties That Bind" - a 10-track album that Springsteen recorded in 1979 as a follow up to 1978's "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" but never released.

The 4CD/3DVD package also includes 22 outtakes from the studio sessions alongside an hour-long documentary/interview and a legendary 1980 concert filmed at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. Read more including the dates and ticket info here.

Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler Apologizes To Bill Ward(Classic Rock)

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has apologized in public to Bill Ward for saying that the ex-drummer had been invited to take part in the band's final show.
Earlier this week, Butler stated in an interview that Sabbath had offered Ward the chance to appear with them just before they took their last bow on The End tour.

The bassist reported: "It's been mentioned to him - but he doesn't want to do it. He wants to do the whole tour or nothing." That led Ward to accuse his former colleague of making "inaccurate statements," adding: "My management reached out to the Black Sabbath management to inquire as to whether or not they would like to discuss my participation in the tour. We were told there was no interest."

Now Butler has tweeted: "It appears Bill Ward was never invited to do a last show - my mistake. Sorry @billwarddrums." Read more here.

Iggy Pop and Josh Homme To Launch World Tour(Classic Rock)

Iggy Pop has announced he will be touring with Josh Homme in support of his latest album Post Pop Depression. He's announced a run of shows worldwide that will see the duo play alongside Homme's Queens Of The Stone Age bandmates, guitarist Dean Fertita and multi-instrumentalist Troy Van Leeuwen, as well as Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders and session man Matt Sweeney.
Iggy and Homme recently performed Gardenia on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The song is available as an instant download with pre-orders of the album. They also made Break Into Your Heart available to stream.

Due on March 18 via Loma Vista, the pair recorded the album under the cover of secrecy at Homme's remote Joshua Tree and Pink Duck studios. Iggy says: "I wanted to be free. To be free, I needed to forget. To forget, I needed music. Josh had that in him, so I set out to provoke an encounter - first with a carefully worded text, followed by a deluge of writings all about me. No composer wants to write about nothing. He got revved up and we had a great big rumble in the desert USA."

Homme adds: "This was to go where neither of us had gone before. That was the agreement. And to go all the way." Read more here.

Foreigner To Offer Fans Recordings From Unplugged Tour(hennemusic)

Foreigner will raise funds for the Grammy Foundation by offering fans live recordings of their upcoming acoustic tour via the launch of the free new app Stereocast.
Billed as "a first-of-its-kind, live-music purchase platform", Stereocast gives fans access to purchase as little as one song or the entire show for download immediately upon exiting the concert venue.

Stereocast will officially launch with the opening night of Foreigner's all-acoustic tour at The Theatre at Westbury in New York on February 11. All proceeds from purchases made on the new music app will go straight to the Grammy Foundation, which helps to provide funding for high school music programs.

"We are pleased to be partnering with StereoCast on this new initiative," says guitarist Mick Jones. "As we move into the digital age, we are always looking for new ways to make our music available in the most innovative manner. To walk away from our concerts with an immediate download of the once-in-a-lifetime moments meets that criteria.

"Furthermore, the ability to provide funds from StereoCast downloads to our high school choir partners music programs and to The Grammy Foundation's music in schools initiatives furthers a cause close to our hearts." Read more here.

Bullet For My Valentine May Release Free EP(TeamRock Radio)

Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck says the band are working on a possible free EP to be released this year. The Welsh metal heroes released latest album Venom last year and could follow that up with a five-track EP in the coming months.
Tuck tells Kerrang: "We're planning on doing something special this year as far as music goes. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but we've been having talks about dropping a five-track EP or something, to give away to the fans."

The vocalist says the band don't want to keep fans waiting too long for new music and that an EP could be the answer. He adds: "We would just really like to have something to keep everybody going between albums. The way music has changed and the way people listen to it is king, and you have to adapt and have something to keep people going." Read more here.

Slipknot's Corey Taylor Explains Why He Won't Go Solo(TeamRock Radio)

Corey Taylor says it would be "super greedy" if he split off to pursue a solo career. The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman says he is happy working with his two bands at the moment - but that a solo career could be on the cards in a few years' time.
He tells RockSveridge: "I've been getting questions about solo stuff forever. But it's a good problem to have. But, at the same time, I'm in two fantastic bands. Why would I ever?

"Unless I wanted to get super greedy, why would I try to split off and do something else. I'm very fulfilled by the music that I get to make with both bands. Is there a solo album in me? Yes. But it's not gonna be for a few more years."

Talking about his diverse musical collaborations with rapper TechN9ne and Finnish cello rock band Apocalyptica, Taylor also says that he wants to work with Eminem one day. Read more here.

Romero was handpicked by guitar icon Ritchie Blackmore last year for Rainbow's 2016 summer shows. King 810 Stream Song In Support Of Flint's Water Crisis(TeamRock Radio)

King 810 have released We Gotta Help Ourselves in support of their hometown Flint, which is in the grip of a toxic water crisis. The metal outfit have been a prominent voice for the residents affected by the lead contamination in the Michigan city's water supply, due to a cost-cutting switchover from Detroit to the River Flint in April 2014. They announced in September that they would be dropping off packs of bottled water in neighbourhoods throughout the city.
They also say a few of their own crew members have been hospitalized due to the incident. King 810 say: "Most of you by now have heard what is going on around town. Since the inception of King in 2007, our foundation has been our city and its people, good or bad.

"Since music is our voice that's how we've chosen to go about things. We wrote this song to empower. To strengthen rather than weaken. To offer solutions instead of problems. To breed hope rather than doubt." Stream the song here.

Jonathan Davis Animated For Scooby Doo-Inspired Sunflower Dead Video(TeamRock Radio)

Sunflower Dead have introduced an animated Jonathan Davis for their It's Time To Get Weird video. It was announced in August that the Korn frontman would guest on the title track for their second album, which was out on October 30.
The Long Island Rockers supported Korn on their 20th anniversary shows in the UK last year, which led them the two bands to become friends. Vocalist Michael Del Pizzo says he masterminded the concept for the It's Time To Get Weird music video based around Davis' past as a funeral home embalmer and coroner's assistant.

He says: "For this one, I took the reins by writing the video treatment. We repeatedly heard that Sunflower Dead needs to be animated. "What better way to do that than with a Scooby Doo-inspired video for our new album's title track featuring one of heavy music's most unique frontmen, Jonathan Davis? My idea was combining the SFD story line with Jonathan's past experience working with dead bodies.

"Boom, a match made in heaven brought to life by the amazing animators at Smorgasbord Productions. This is my favorite SFD video by far." Watch the video here.

Lenny Kravitz Moving Towards A 'Brian Wilson Phase'(Classic Rock)

Lenny Kravitz believes he's on the verge of entering a "Brian Wilson phase" - and it'll take form when he learns to surf in the near future. He's been inspired by life at his second home in the Bahamas to look for a new musical direction.
Kravitz tells Rolling Stone: "Last night my sax player caught a 15-pound snapper that we just threw on the grill. That's the quality of living here - pick vegetables out of the garden and fish out of the sea.

"My big decision is, which beach are we going to hang out on? When we get to the water am I going to paddleboard or swim?" He admits he's a beginner when it comes to surfing, and that he's not a strong swimmer. But he adds: "I made a plan a month ago - surfing is going to change my music. It's going to offer me something I don't have that I need to move towards."

Kravitz, who's been listening to the Beach Boys a lot recently, continues: "A Brian Wilson phase wouldn't be bad." Read more here.

Santana, who formed fusion supergroup Supernova last year with John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, says: "It was magical. We didn't have to try to force the vibe - it was immense. From there, we then needed to come up with a balance of songs and jams that people would immediately identify as Santana."

"When you can go back and break new ground with joy and determination - and some whoop-ass energy - it gets you going. I think we achieved something very rare. This music was screaming to come out of us. It wasn't about nostalgia. It was about passion." Read more here.
