Today's Day in Rock

Guns N' Roses Expand North American Tour
(hennemusic) More like Chinese water torture than "Chinese Democracy," the dates for Guns N' Roses' fall North American tour continue to trickle out a few at a time.

GNR have confirmed five more shows on the trip, including Albany (Nov 23), Cincinnati (Dec 2), Nashville (Dec 4), Southaven, MS (Dec 5) and Youngstown (Dec 7).

The US tour is expected to hit 30 cities between its October 28 launch in Orlando and New Year's Eve. more on this story

Metallica and Lou Reed Talk Lulu
(hennemusic) "Lulu," the collaborative work between Lou Reed and Metallica, sees its release on Halloween, which somehow seems appropriate: based on the initial reaction of Metallica fans, this album may scare the hell out a lot of them.

The project is definitely going to take Metallica fans out of their comfort zone, as evident by the fan-created version of the first track, "The View" – which sees Reed's vocals removed and the 6-minute piece trimmed to about half its original length.

"Lulu" also took the musicians out of their comfort zone, and both sides knew they'd be stepping out on a creative ledge. There is now some video clips from Reed and Metallica explaining various aspects of the project. Check them out here

Evanescence and Five Finger Death Punch Prove Rock Is Still Very Alive
(Gibson) If there was ever a question about the loyalty of Evanescence fans, that's gone, as the Arkansas-based, goth-inspired rockers' self-titled third studio album is projected to sell between 110,000 and 120,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The numbers are predicted by several industry forecasters and are based on one-day sales reports generated after the album was released on October 11 via Wind-up Records.

Evanescence's new release, if it reaches #1, will denote frontwoman Amy Lee and the collective's second #1 album, succeeding The Open Door in 2006. The Open Door debuted with 447,000 copies sold. The band's debut, 2003's Fallen, pushed a sky-scraping 7.6 million copies total in the U.S.

Heavy hit-makers Five Finger Death Punch are also projected to rake in a high total, as they're projected to move 85,000 to 90,000 copies of their new album, American Capitalist, this week in the U.S. The group's previous release, 2009's War is the Answer, enjoyed a 44,000 launch week. more on this story

Bob Seger Adds More Tour Dates
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band have further expanded their 2011 North American Tour with a series of dates on the west coast including Los Angeles, Oakland, and Phoenix, and topping it all off with a special New Year's show in Las Vegas.

Seger originally conceived his 2011 Tour as a short spring run of 18-20 dates. Due to the overwhelming response from fans, Seger nearly tripled the number of shows. The Vegas performance will be Seger's 50th concert in 2011.

On September 13, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band made digital history of their own by offering fans a Free 6-Track Bonus EP on iTunes to celebrate the release of their digitally remastered multi-platinum Nine Tonight and Live Bullet concert albums. more on this story

From Captain Kirk To Metalhead
(Rock News Desk) Star Trek icon William Shatner admits he was never comfortable with heavy metal until he made his new record In Search of Major Tom. In fact, before he started work he'd never even heard of Queen or Bohemian Rhapsody.

Working with Wylde helped Shatner open his mind to the emotional breadth of heavy music as the pair worked on his over of Black Sabbath's Iron Man. "Heavy metal music made me turn away over the years, not understanding heavy metal," the actor says. "In my first attempt to do the lyric I realised the lyric spoke of Hell – it was like Hell to me."

Of Wylde, Shatner says: "I've never seen finger fly on a fretboard so quickly. He spent the whole day laying out his track and laying down another track on top of that. He was intricately working that song like an actor would do with a Shakespeare soliloquy, where every word has a meaning and our try and get the rhythm and the meaning and the sense – and yet throw it away so it doesn't seem obvious that you're working it. This guy blew my mind." more on this story

Radiohead Plan Next Move
(Gibson) The guys in Radiohead are plenty busy these days. After releasing The King of Limbs earlier this year, and a 2-CD remix collection, titled TKOL RMX 1234567, more recently – the band has plans to go back into the studio by year's end, according to Rolling Stone.

"We can get things together quite rapidly at the moment," frontman Thom Yorke said, referencing a song called "Come to Your Senses." "We have this version of it. It's a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need."

That's not the only song that's in pretty good shape at this point. "There are a few of those. It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don't know how we would release them," he said. "It would be nice to make it all part of the flow and just enjoy it – not think about it too much." more on this story

Iron Maiden for Tots
(hennemusic) They say music sooths the savage beast, but what about an unhappy 2-year-old? Seems to work, at least for some, and parents are free to help shape their child's musical chops at any time.

Looks like one child is headed on the path to headbanging glory, getting an early start on his rock education during a road trip by insisting on some Iron Maiden to perk up his mood.

"I want some Iron Maiden to make me happy," says the young pup, through a face full of tears….but not for long. Check it out here

Alter Bridge Preview New Release
(Banana 101.5) The upcoming beefed-up version of Alter Bridge's album 'AB III.5' will feature extra tracks and a documentary — which you can now get a look at in the new trailer.

Alter Bridge are officially off-duty. All the members are currently working on other projects — Myles Kennedy has begun recording with Slash for his second solo album while the rest of the band has started writing and recording demos for the next Creed record. The Osbournes Open Up
(hennemusic) With a new book, "Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy," to promote, it's no wonder Sharon Osbourne used her connection with fellow America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan to secure a full hour on his CNN show Tuesday night to help Ozzy spread the word, on the day of its release.

Joining Ozzy and Sharon was son Jack, as the three recounted some of their most publicized stories…from Ozzy trying to kill his wife to dealing with addictions, near-death experiences, and the old story about the bat.

In between, there's moments of genuine reflection by all three Osbournes on what they've lived through and those they've lived with, including both Sharon and Ozzy speaking about their late fathers. No spoilers here, though, for anyone who hasn't heard the stories before, or the headlines about the appearance itself – just sit back and check it out.

Classic Rolling Stones Concert Hitting Theaters
The Rolling Stones "Some Girls Live In Texas '78" will have a special theatrical screening on Tuesday, October 18.

The never-before-seen Rolling Stones concert was filmed live in Fort Worth, Texas on July 18, 1978.

The Rolling Stones' Some Girls Tour is widely believed to be one of the bands' greatest concerts, largely because it was in many ways back to basics both in musical and staging terms. It meant a return to a mixture of classic Stones numbers ("Tumbling Dice," "Honky Tonk Woman", "Brown Sugar", and "Jumpin' Jack Flash") mixed with blues numbers and Chuck Berry covers, as well as including a large number of songs from the newly released Some Girls LP, including "Miss You" and "Beast of Burden". more on this story

The iTunes Session was originally set to be released on December 13, 2011, but due to an overzealous writer who misunderstood the meaning of a private stream, SideOneDummy Records and iTunes have elected to move the release date to next Tuesday.

The iTunes Session is comprised of previously unreleased covers and alternate versions of classic Gaslight Anthem songs. more on this story

Alicia Keys To Tribute George Harrison
(Gibson) Late Beatles guitarist George Harrison is the focus of a New York City charity concert next month organized by R&B songstress Alicia Keys. Keys' charity, named Keep a Child Alive, will pay tribute to Harrison at its annual Black Ball event for his various "philanthropic contributions to India," according to a release.

Keys won't be the only A-list performer at the benefit. The charity has announced that a broad array of performers also will make appearances, including Usher, Norah Jones, will.i.am, Mary J. Blige, Gary Clark Jr., Jay Sean and Midival Punditz with Karsh Kale. The show takes place November 3 at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom.

The charity event celebrates the eighth year of Keep a Child Alive, which assists children suffering with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India, and the 40th anniversary of George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh. Currently, the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF is a joint commission between the Harrison family and the U.S., and the fund provides "lifesaving assistance to children, including health, education, nutrition and emergency relief." more on this story

Ratt Played Dirty?
(Rock News Desk) Former Ratt bassist Juan Croucier insists Carlos Cavazo was only invited to join his old band because his ex-colleagues were trying to get at him – and it worked.

Cavazo accepted an offer from Ratt's Warren DeMartini to become the glam metal outfit's second axeman, leaving Croucier's outfit the Dirty Rats to do so.

Despite that, the bassist says he and Cavazo remain friends – although he can't say the same for DeMartini. more on this story

Grunge Drove Kelly Hansen To Foreigner
(Rock News Desk) Foreigner singer Kelly Hansen asked Mick Jones for the job of replacing Lou Gramm in Foreigner – even though he knew it would be a difficult role to play.

The vocalist felt a leap of faith was the only thing which could rescue his career from the doldrums after his first big band, Hurricane, were wiped out by the grunge explosion of the early 1990s.

"Grunge music came along and obliterated the metal scene, which was where we were coming from. I had to take a back seat and not do very much singing for the next several years," Hansen tells Mercury News. "I was working a lot harder for a lot less return in the mid 90s, as I think a lot of people were. You start to say to yourself, 'Wait a minute, earlier in my career, everything used to just come to me. I never had to actually pursue things.' more on this story

Gwar To Violate Jimmy Fallon
(Freeman) For the second straight year, Gwar will be violating "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" for Halloween week.

Gwar will appear on the show on Thursday October 27th as part of their humungous "Return of the World Maggot" tour, set to crawl forth from Hell next week.

Jane's Addiction Never Really Break Up
(Rock News Desk) Jane's Addiction stopped physically fighting with each other twenty years ago, but they still don't hang out together much – and the band say that's what keeps their music fresh.

They're poised to release The Great Escape Artist, just their fourth album in their 26-year history, next week. And with the second, and seemingly final, departure of bassist Eric Avery, the three core members of Jane's – frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins – believe they've achieved a balance that works for them, even if it involves taking regular breaks.

Navarro tells CNN: "I'm not really sure how many times we've parted ways. I wasn't really one of the people who thought we wouldn't be back together, primarily because we've gotten back together so many times over the years.

"We don't break up any more – we just go on five-year hiatuses." more on this story

Judas Priest Will Still Play Live and Record New Music
(Gibson) Please don't fall for the dirty rumor that Judas Priest are packing up their heavy metal suits and calling it quits. While the band's current Epitaph World Tour is being billed as their last showing, the British metal kingpins are merely staying away from any overly ambitious, global tour after Epitaph, but they still plan to make music and play shows.

"This is our last world tour, but that doesn't mean it will be our last live performances, and we'll certainly do more albums," guitarist Glenn Tipton told Noisecreep.

The men of Judas Priest are having a killer last bout on the worldwide front. "It's been incredible," Tipton said. "... We're fortunate across the board, really. We're obviously popular in America and throughout Europe – we've just done a great European tour – and a lot of the Latin countries, Spanish-speaking countries. We go to these far corners of the planet, places like Turkey or Chile, and 15,000 or 20,000 kids show up, so we're very lucky, really." more on this story

Peter Criss of KISS Reflects On Getting Older
(Gibson) Nobody likes getting old – not even rock stars. Just ask Peter Criss, founding drummer of KISS. In fact, Criss doesn't even want to talk about turning 66, which happens this year.

"Ohhhhhh, I hate it!" he jokingly told Ultimate Classic Rock. "We don't even talk about it, ever since I turned 60. But three is my lucky number, and those are double threes, so I'm expecting a really dynamite year. I feel real positive about a bunch of things coming up for me.

"I'm not alone, I look at other rock guys, like the Stones and Zeppelin and The Who, just all these people, we're all the same age. So I'm in good company. All the guys my age were around in the great times, when music was changing, when Vietnam was happening, and the British Invasion." more on this story

Brian Wilson Going Disney Details
(Gibson) While fans wait to see if Brian Wilson will rejoin original Beach Boys Mike Love and Al Jardine for a 50th anniversary reunion, the pop music legend has been working on a new album of Disney favorites. Rolling Stone reports that when the folks at Disney approached Wilson, he responded enthusiastically. "I said I'd love to do it," he said. "I flipped."

Wilson will release In the Key of Disney on October 25. The album features the former Beach Boy taking on tunes made famous in films such as The Little Mermaid, Toy Story, Dumbo, The Lion King and Wilson's favorite Disney movie, Pinocchio. You can hear his version of "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book by clicking here.

"I tried to put the Beach Boys style to it – a combination of Beach Boys and Disney," he said. Wilson said it wasn't easy putting his spin on some classic songs. "When I listen to it I think to myself, 'How in the heck did we pull that off?'" more on this story

Singled Out: Edge Of Paradise's Mask
Today Margarita Martirosyan from Edge Of Paradise tells us about the title track from their brand new album "Mask". Here is the story:

The title of our single "Mask" represents the song's meaning, literally and figuratively speaking. The song was written by Dave Bates and Ryan Jones, while coming to terms with the tragic departure of a former drummer, who took his own life. However, the song depicts different scenarios of desperation and the feeling of hopelessness. I know, Ryan's motivation for "Mask" was his prior battle with his own demons, while Dave's inspiration came from trying to understand how a person, with no noticeable signs of depression, in fact, completely opposite, had such dark thoughts that lead to this tragic ending.

The song was initially called "To Believe", and as I came into the picture, I was figuring out what the song meant to me, drawing from Ryan's lyrics, which really translated his message and emotion. Unfortunately, I never got to meet the drummer, and will never know what drove him to such a dark end, but these events, cause us to reflect inwards and examine our own battles within our minds. At the end, we all try to find something that might free us of this struggle. This is a huge part of the song as the opening lyrics begin with "If you ever find me, could you, untie me. I'm battling my mind, depression, suicide…" And the chorus really takes it further with "…to taste the rain, and have no pain…"

There is a line in the song "…It seems that every time when I wake, I'm always wearing this miserable face…" To us, it means that we all have our own masks, which we hide behind to deal with the cards we were dealt. Especially, living in this day and age, there are very few people who actually open up and reveal their face. So the lyrics "…this miserable face…" changed to "…this miserable mask…". And from this point forward the song kind of evolved into what you hear and see on the video. We even rethought our whole record as it was initially, going to be titled "Back To The Ground", lyrics from the first track on the CD, "Falling Down". It was definitely a choice that felt right. And recording the song was really cool and exciting, as we were solidifying the sound of the band.

We really want listeners to take away from this song, that it is possible to "breath the night, to feel alive". We heard various interpretations of what the song means to different people, and we want them to take something different from it as well! Something that will make them look inside and relate to things in their own way and maybe even give them some sort of a positive outlook!

Slipknot Plan To Make New Album
Slipknot's Shawn "Clown" Crahan tells Kerrang! that the band have plans to record a new album but fans shouldn't hold their breath waiting for it.

Loadwire reports: "There's plans [to make another record] but that's a way off," Crahan said. "No one will push it, because it's going to be a big one. It'll be closer to 'Iowa', but it'll be sadder and crazier and really thought provoking, it could even be conceptual."

Understandably, Crahan added, Slipknot are going to take their time with the project because they're still dealing with the loss of bassist Paul Gray, who died May 24, 2010, in a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa. more on this story

Axl Rose Snaps
(hennemusic) It sounds, and looks, like a TMZ moment, but eyewitness reports indicate Axl Rose snapped at fans at a Rosario, Argentina airport Monday night, following the band's performance at Salon Metropolitano.

A GNR fan shot the footage, and she states in her comments that it is Axl arriving at the terminal. The rough translation of the Spanish text by the fan is that Axl arrived at the airport to take his private jet; when the VIP gate wasn't working, he was forced to use the main entrance, and fans descended upon the car when it pulled up the main entrance.

The video shows a dark SUV arriving at the curb; as fans gather and one approaches the car, Axl gets out of the back seat, slamming the door in anger while yelling, "Get the f**k away from me, you f**king idiot." More including the video

Sebastian Bach Assault And Mischief Charges Dropped
(Rock News Desk) Assault and mischief charges against Sebastian Bach have been dropped, but Canadian legal officials didn't tell the singer's accuser.

Bach was arrested in his hometown of Peterborough, Ontario, in November last year after an altercation in a local pub. Video footage showed him appear to break a wine glass after being asked to leave the premises.

Now all charges have been abandoned after prosecutors accepted it was unlikely Bach would be found guilty due to lack of evidence. His lawyer, Jim Hauraney, says the musician will donate $700 to a city charity by way of apology. more on this story

If you live outside of the U.S., don't fret, Evanescence are also planning to bring their show around the globe. Lee says, "We're gonna be all over the world — we always tour the world, but this time we're making a point to try to hit a lot the countries that we've always wanted to go to and have never been to."

She adds, "We've never been to Indonesia, or whatever. So yeah, we've got a big list of places that we're gonna be touring for the foreseeable future." more on this story

Dave Grohl To The Rescue
(Banana 101.5) Cage the Elephant were in danger of missing their opening slot for Foo Fighters in Salt Lake City this week after their drummer's appendix burst. Luckily there was a pretty kick ass drummer already there and willing to sit in for a few songs — Dave Grohl.

Dave Grohl made a name for himself beating the skins for Nirvana, and still occasionally plays in the Foo Fighters' off cycles — most recently for Them Crooked Vultures. Though Dave fronts one of the world's biggest rock bands, he is still well respected (and rightfully so) as a rock drummer.

So when the Kentucky alt-rockers Cage the Elephant found their drummer Jared Champion hospitalized for appendix issues just hours before the show, Dave volunteered his services so they could still open for his band. A few songs into their set with a substitute drummer, Grohl made his way to the stage and finished out the last five songs of the set. more on this story

Jack's Mannequin Score Top 10 Debut

The band is out now on a headlining tour that kicked off last week with a special show with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra where they created symphonic arrangements for some of their best-known hits.

11 short films were created for every song on People and Things. Andrew McMahon wanted to provide an artistic visual counterpart to the album and enlisted the help of independent film directors from around the world, many of which he found on Vimeo. The films debuted in a special screening at Angelika Theatre in NYC last week and are all now streaming on YouTube. more on this story

The Monkees May Return To The Road
(Gibson) This past summer saw three of the four original Monkees reunite for a 45th anniversary tour. That tour broke down prematurely after 43 shows, but guitarist Peter Tork says the '60s pop group will likely hit the road again in the not-too-distant future.

"It would probably be in the next year or two," Tork told RollingStone.com, when asked how long the wait might be. "But obviously nothing is settled yet, and until we see a settlement in sight, we can't even begin to arrange a tour. Once you start arranging a tour, you may be able to get it mounted about six or seven months down the road."

Tork declined to offer details regarding why this year's tour was abruptly halted. "There were some business affairs that couldn't be coordinated correctly," he said. "We hit a glitch and there was just this weird dislocation at one point. I can't say anything more…" more on this story

Def Leppard To Change Things Up
(Rock News Desk) Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott says the band are planning to evolve their set on their current tour – but not because a forum user kicked up a stink about them playing the same songs every night.

Elliott reacted with rage in August after someone he described as a "f**king moron" objected to Def Lep using the same setlist on a number of occasions.

At the time he explained it was because he was getting over the recent death of his father, so he was playing things safe. Now he allows there's an opportunity to add new and old songs to their performances – but it's a natural development and not kowtowing to the "internet brigade." more on this story

Agents of Mercy Release New Concept Album
(Glass Onyon) Agents of Mercy have released their new concept album, 'The Black Forest,' which features one 56-minute mega-tune of prog bliss edited into separate slices

Now you've heard the term 'concept' a million times, but the new album by Agents of Mercy takes the idiom to a higher level, all the while pushing the prog envelope to its extremes.

'The Black Forest' is a surreal journey – a mysteriously glowing metaphor for a trip through dark, disturbing, scary times; a lifelong uncertain journey encompassed by greed, lust, hunger for power and money, eternal life, and mind control. And guess what – we're the prey!!! This is Agents of Mercy's first concept album with a longer song format. Tales of dark future times, seen through the eyes of a weary traveler in wiggly warped woods of our imaginary journey some 300 years ago. Elzbeth Bathory meets unholy rapists and flesheaters in a quiet town and deformed freaks of a traveling sinister circus haunt you at bedtime. Did you lock the door? Singled Out: SS-Kaliert's Russian Roulette
Today Benni Whitley from SS-Kaliert tells us about "Russian Roulette" from their brand new album "Subzero". Here is the story:

The idea for "Russian Roulette" came from when we played four shows behind the iron curtain. We got such massive support from everyone at all four shows… more so than anywhere else in the entire world. Many unbelievable things happened to us that really left us speechless. Some were really shocking – (Nazi's making a bomb threat on the venue in St. Petersburg to sabotage the show, or running into cops who will pull you over and charge you money for not being Russian), but most things were positive (packed shows with very kind and appreciative fans – a lot of Vodka parties and meeting great people). "Russian Roulette" is our way of giving people hope who live in a country where minorities get stabbed to death in the subway by Nazi-skinheads and where cops are more corrupt than anywhere else. Russia is a country where unity within subcultures is more important than anywhere else. The song is also our way of saying "thank you" for the massive support we get there!

It's also a small tour report about those four days so that everybody involved in that tour will never forget this great time!

The original version of "Russian Roulette" was on a benefit compilation for the antifascist Action in Russia on True Rebel Records. The new version is on our current album SUBZERO on People Like You Records. Producer is Waldemar Sorychta – who leveled the song up to a maximum for the album.

The Day Sid Stabbed Nancy?
(Gibson) On this day in 1978, While living at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City, Sex Pistol Sid Vicious called the police to say that someone had stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. He was arrested and charged with her murder and placed in the detox unit of a New York prison. Gibson takes a look back: Just before lunchtime on October 12, 1978, the Chelsea Hotel in New York City would become the site of one of rock and roll's greatest tragedies. Sid Vicious, of Sex Pistols notoriety, and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen had retreated into reclusive heroin-fueled oblivion as Vicious' rock and roll persona finally caught up with him and all around him.

Vicious was the toast of New York's punk scene. The motorcycle jacket, the chains, the skinny heroin frame and that post-Elvis lip snarl had made Vicious the best-known of the anti-social Sex Pistols. Sid and Nancy were the punk John and Yoko, except rather than propagating peace and love; they chose a darker, drug-laced existence to make their mark in rock and roll mythology.

When a hotel worker went into Room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel he discovered a half-dressed, blood-covered body of a young woman lying on the floor, a deep wound in her stomach. The bed was also covered in blood. The hotel called an ambulance and police searched the room, discovering drugs, drug paraphernalia, a blood-stained hunting knife and Nancy's boyfriend Sid wandering the hallway in a state of confusion.

Sid's story of events was inconclusive. more on this story

Singled Out: Joe Galaxy's Crazy Sexy
Today Joe Galaxy tells us about his new single "Crazy Sexy" which will be on his upcoming debut album. Here is the story:

"Crazy Sexy" was the first song I recorded after signing with Still Hustlin', Inc. earlier this year. I hit the studio with the label boss and flagship artist, Renegade Foxxx, and we knew going in we wanted to create a song that would be perfect for the club. We wanted something really sexy that would be an anthem for the women. They can listen to it when they're getting ready and then later that night once everyone gets going at the club the track hits and just captures the energy and puts everyone in the right mood. So going in we knew we had to bring some serious energy.

We started off tinkering with the beats. I wanted to create a rave sound, audibly take people to a rave. Renegade and I bounced around a few ideas and played around with the sounds until we found a beat we both thought was perfect. Once we had the beat we got to writing.

Originally, the lyrics were very raw, very hardcore…like a lot of club records out these days. After we stepped away from it for a bit we realized we didn't want to go that route, we wanted to create a club record that really empowered the ladies, let them know how special they are. That's how we came to "you're a sexy chick, I wanna love you." From there the record completely opened up.

The verses are fun and I wanted to match the beat and the attitude of the whole song. Getting crazy, having fun, being sexy. We wanted to show the listener something without explicitly saying it and I think we succeeded. Beyond that, I wanted to make a futuristic record. This is a club track from 2022. I'm not in this game to rehash old hits, I want to make something different and that's what "Crazy Sexy" is all about.

All in all, the track took about three days to make and definitely is a hint of what's to come on my album. Renegade and I collaborate amazingly and as you can see from "Crazy Sexy" the results are on another level. Stay tuned for more!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!

Aeros-mac: Steven Tyler Fleetwood Mac Supergroup Hopes
Billboard.com caught up with Fleetwood Mac legend Mick Fleetwood and learned that Mick has hopes that his supergroup with Aerosmith Steven Tyler may go beyond their one-off tribute.

The supergroup is called M.O.B and features Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Fleetwood Mac co-founder John McVie and guitarist Jonny Lang. M.O.B. got together to record ZZ's "Sharp Dressed Man' for the new tribute album to the legendary Texas rockers.

Billboard reports: Fleetwood harbors an ambition to reassemble The M.O.B. (which he says is not a specific acronym) in the future. "I have musical fantasies all the time," he says with a laugh, "but we had a lot of fun doing this, and I truly, truly do have a vision of somewhere, somehow walking on stage and actually putting something together with (the group). It's nothing on a boiler plate right now, but it's certainly something in my mind, and I think everybody else's, too." A lot more from Mick here

Staind Not Breaking Up
(Rock News Desk) Staind have shouted down rumors they're about to break up. The band's future became the subject of fan speculation after drummer Jon Wysocki left in May. More stories circulated after a documentary about the making of their recent self-titled album appeared to show an outfit dissolving in acrimony.

The success of frontman Aaron Lewis' country music side project has provided yet more grist to the rumour mill. But he and guitarist Mike Mushok say Staind have a long future ahead of them – although Lewis will be taking time out to work on his solo projects.

The band are currently touring Europe and Lewis explains what will happen afterwards: "I go back to doing my solo stuff and filming for my hunting TV show. After Thanksgiving Staind goes out for a couple of weeks.

"Then in January and February I finish up my solo stuff then we start our world tour in February. Then we're back for a States tour, then back to Europe, then I'll come back here and do something on the solo side. Then a Staind headlining tour in the States." But where did the signals get crossed?

Guns N' Roses Fire Back
(hennemusic) A day after Rock In Rio 4 promoter Roberto Medina called out Axl Rose for Guns N' Roses late start at this year's festival, a band representative has offered up the group's side of the story.

Commenting on GNR's late start, Medina told Globo.com's Extra, "Axl came very late and did not respect the public," citing three things in particular: "I found a lack of commitment, respect [for] the public, [and] the huge delay (they were more than two hours [late]."

"Guns N' Roses would like to set the record straight on Rock In Rio," reports the band's publicist. "The festival's inadequate production and the downpour of rain delayed the event. Anyone who was there knows that System of A Down did not leave the stage until close to 1:15 in the morning. System's extensive stage production did not finish coming offstage until 1:45 a.m. GNR's production was up and ready to go at 2:15 a.m. Axl got to the venue before 1 a.m. and he came ready to go onstage. The inadequate cover of the Rock In Rio stage caused a further delay when the soundboard went down due to water damage and was replaced as quick as possible. GNR walked onstage at 2:40 a.m. and played for two-and-a-half hours in the pouring rain. GNR would never seek to intentionally disrespect anyone, especially their fans." more on this story

The band went on indefinite hiatus amid acrimony in 2005 and the members felt there was a distinct possibility they'd never regroup.

The Muppets Doing Nirvana's Teen Spirit
(Gibson) After making its mark as an alt-rock anthem 20 years ago, Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has been re-appropriated by everyone from Patti Smith to the folks behind Moulin Rouge. Later this fall, the song might get its most startling reworking when it's delivered by some of our Muppet pals in the new film, The Muppets.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the movie's soundtrack includes the Nirvana track performed by The Muppets Barbershop Quartet. Seeing as it's been reported that Dave Grohl has a cameo in the movie, we're wondering if the two instances aren't connected.

The film stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams, who attempt to help Kermit, Gonzo and the gang save their theater from evil oilman Tex Richman (played by Chris Cooper). The movie opens on November 23. more on this story

Alex Van Halen’s 1980 Drumkit at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

Van Halen burst on the rock scene in 1978 like a larger-than-life, hard rocking, non-stop party, and channeled that energy into a seminal debut. Ostensibly, the band had two frontmen: leonine lead vocalist David Lee Roth and volcanic guitarist Edward Van Halen. Both possessed the charisma and talent to be the focal point of a solid rock band, but together, they created an undeniable dynamic that quickly captivated legions of loyal fans. Anchoring the unit was the powerhouse rhythm section of bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Alex Van Halen, Eddie’s brother. By the time Van Halen arrived in the studio to record their debut, they had honed their skills honestly, playing nightclubs, parties and high school gymnasiums across Southern California. It was during those formative years of touring that the band learned the value of showmanship – and how to win audiences all over the world with it.

As Van Halen grew in popularity, the production quality of their stage show followed suit as an increasingly flamboyant rock and roll spectacle. Alex Van Halen used the drum kit not only as a percussion instrument, but also as a visual art form. Working with various drum manufacturers, Alex custom designed enormous and elaborate drum kits that reflected the group’s musical sensibility and provided Alex the platform to shine.

After many years of planning, we are finally bringing one of Alex Van Halen’s historic drum kits to be exhibited in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The kit pictured above was used on Van Halen’s 1980 world Invasion Tour in support of the Women and Children First album, joining Alex as the band performed more than 100 shows. The white Ludwig kit features two custom articulated bass drums, each more than five feet long, in addition to an impressive array of floor toms, tom-toms, a gong and myriad cymbals. This kit is a sight to behold and is exhibited on the Museum’s lower level.

Many thanks to Alex Van Halen and his drum tech John Douglas for all their help and dedication in bringing this tremendous item to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

Singled Out: Candice Night's Call it Love
Blackmore's Night's Candice Night is releasing her new solo album "Reflections" today and to celebrate we asked her to tell us a little bit about the first single "Call it Love". Here is the story:

Although I released Call It Love from my cd Reflections as my 1st radio single, it was a song that I had written and recorded years before in a completely different style than what wound up on the cd. Originally, when I first sat down with a producer to breathe life into it from the skeletal way that I write, (just piano and voice), his approach was in a very different vein than I heard it in my head. It wound up turning out more basic, even slightly jazzy, and my original vision of the song was worlds away from the direction that the producer brought it to.

So when I decided to compile some songs for my 1st solo cd release, Call It Love was one of the ones I really wanted to try to approach again with the hopes of recreating it in the way that I had heard it in my head from the start. It was important for me to be able to add this song on the cd because it was so true to so many situations I had been through or seen through friends and family, lyrically. Just a simple storyline of true love, yet as we go through relationships, even if they feel so right often we are scarred by what we have been through before, or don't want to put a scary big word like "love" to define our feelings because it is the admission of something so much deeper, and that makes us vulnerable. So we call these feelings anything else to escape the gravity of the scary love situation, which makes it so much easier to run away, if we need to , and escape is an easy way out. Serious emotions can be frightening and confining. We call it luck or "fate that our paths have crossed", or "its a dream to be with someone like ..." and finally when we are ready we take that scary leap and actually use the "L" word. Love. Then somehow it all fits into place.

With my BN producer, we worked out the instrumentation that I originally heard in my head, added a few parts in the arrangement, some Beatle-esque background harmonies to the bridge and finally it took shape to be the song I always knew it could be.

Now that you know the story behind the song, learn more about the album right here!

American Idol's Randy Jackson Gets New Vh1 Series
American Idol's Randy Jackson has landed a new series for Vh1 which the network bills as Jackson schooling "celebrities about what life is in the real world for those who didn't get their big breaks in "Aptitude Test" (working title). The one-hour series will premiere in 2012."

Here are the details they sent out: "Aptitude Test" is a show from Randy Jackson and Shed Media where each week a high profile celebrity gets a chance to see what might have happened if they never had their big break in the entertainment business. After retaking their high school career aptitude test to determine their "rightful calling," the celebrity will then don a disguise and undergo on-the-job training before revealing their true identity to their boss and co-workers. The show will mix both humor and heart in this fish-out-of-water experience.

"We immediately loved this idea from Randy Jackson as it hits all the right notes for us – celebrities, real-life experiences and good storytelling," said Jeff Olde, EVP Original Programming and Production. "We get to dive in with a celebrity and learn what their 'day job' might have been had the star thing not worked out. Magma's Christian Vander Releasing John Coltrane Tribute Album
(Glass Onyon) Magma's Christian Vander will be releasing a tribute to jazz innovator John Coltrane on October 15, 2011 - l'homme suprême .

Christian Vander explains, "On July 17, 1967, time stopped. The great saxophone player John Coltrane left us. I was lucky enough to discover, at a very young age, an exceptional musician. The beauty, the spirituality, the strength, the softness, as well as the fragility of notes. The expression of that sound which spoke to me like a voice. From that moment on, he became my daily bread. Indispensable. No one can ignore the immensity of his visionary works. It still resonates in all of today's musical productions, and certainly in those of tomorrow.

"In 1997, I had a dream, a record, dedicated to John Coltrane. A child painted the sun on a white cardboard, and below that sun, he wrote a title in blue... John Coltrane l'homme suprême."
