Motley Crue Member Attacked By Fan On Stage
(Classic Rock) Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars was assaulted on stage after an audience member invaded the band's performance area in Canada on Saturday.
The chronically ill musician, who suffers from a disease that makes it difficult for him to move, was knocked down by a person who also grabbed singer VInce Neil and struggled with security men.

Mars, who was celebrating his 62nd birthday, later reported his personal guard Rhyno had suffered two broken ribs. Crue were performing their track Primal Scream when an audience member managed to evade stewards and climbed onto the stage. He ran straight into Mars, sending him to the ground, before making contact with Neil.

The show was stopped as techs restrained the attacker, with bassist Nikki Sixx looking on in concern – and apparently kicking the downed attacker – as two roadies picked Mars off the floor and helped him walk off. Neil told the crowd: "We might be back," before disappearing. After a delay they returned and finished the show. More including video of the attack.



Aerosmith Show Canceled Over Bomb Plot?
Aerosmith have canceled next Saturday's concerts in the Indonesian capital of in Jakarta "due to safety reasons" following an alleged bomb plot, according to Billboard.

The band were scheduled to perform at the JIExpo on May 11th as part of their Global Warming World Tour, but the promoter announced that they have canceled the nearly sold-out show.

The promoter's website ran announcement from Aerosmith's reps that read, "Unfortunately, we have to cancel our upcoming show in Jakarta. We want to apologize to all our fans who were expecting to see us and hope that one day we can make it up to them."

While the band's announcement didn't mention the safety concern in their statement, Billboard reports that that the security concerns may have come from an alleged bomb plot that was targeting the Myanmar Embassy.

Helmi Sugara, a spokesman for the event's organizer, said that the band canceled the show on Saturday. That followed Friday's announcement by Indonesia that they had arrested two suspected militants with bombs.

They report that it was not clear if the show cancelation was directly related to the terror plot or if it was a reaction to some other threat. You can read their report here.



New Guns 'N Roses Album 'Mostly Completed'
Guns 'N Roses fans may not have to wait over a decade for a new album from the band, following the release of their long delayed "Chinese Democracy" in 2008.

The band's guitarist Richard Fortus reportedly told Australian website Noise11.com that many of the songs for a new album have been completed.

While the site does not offer any direct quotes from Fortus, they say they spoke to him and he said that the band has spent a lot of time in the studio working on the album.

He also reportedly said that the album won't be released this year but might see the light of day in 2014, even though the album has already been mostly completed. Read the report here.





Robert Plant Restrains Alleged Stalker
(hennemusic) Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has taken out a restraining order against a fan that he alleges has been stalking him for the past three years.

The alleged stalker, named as Alysson Billings, who has never met Plant, reportedly believes that she is in a relationship with the Led Zeppelin legend, according to The Sun.

Billings had reportedly turned up at his concerts worldwide and left him hotel keys as well as sending him flowers and packages but things apparently grew worse once Plant became involved with folk singer Patty Griffin.

Billings allegedly sent Plant a slew of threatening messages, according to gossip site TMZ. One message said, "Your betrayal with another woman still stabs my mind."

Another said: "This woman is literally evil for you and your life ... you are about to fall for that dirty old crotch. And I'm not joking, I cannot, will not, shall not live this way anymore." But the third took it to a new level.





Rolling Stones Joined By Keith Urban And Gwen Stefani At Tour Kick Off
(Radio.com) The Rolling Stones rocked Los Angeles' Staples Center on Friday (May 3) with superstar guests and enduring hits at the opening U.S. date of the band's 50th anniversary tour, 50 and Counting.

As the opening guitar strains of "Wild Horses" played, No Doubt lead singer Gwen Stefani strolled onstage. While some older concert goers relied on their younger counterparts to identify the singer with the long blond tresses and classic Stones tour t-shirt, Stefani and Jagger connected for the classic tune from the Stones' 1971 album, Sticky Fingers.

The show didn't lag for a moment, as country star Keith Urban appeared onstage to add blistering guitar licks to "Respectable" from the Stones' 1978 full-length Some Girls while drummer Charlie Watts' rock-solid beat set the pace.

The cavalcade of special guests continued. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor joined the band for an extended version of "Midnight Rambler," with Taylor slipped into an easy groove as Richards and lead guitarist Ron Wood exchanged fiery solos and big smiles between them. more on this story





Megadeth Announce Gigantour Details and Black Sabbath Tour Dates
Megadeth have revealed the full lineup and tour dates for this year's Gigantour and also announced that they will be joining Black Sabbath on a separate tour.

Megadeth will headline the Gigantour and frontman Dave Mustaine has selected Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, former Metallica bass player Jason Newsted's new solo band Newsted, Hellyeah, Disturbed frontman David Draiman's new band Device, and Death Division which features Hellyeah / Nothingface's Jerry Montano and Morbid Angel / Divine Heresy's Tim Yeung.

The trek is set to kick off on July 3rd at Meadowbrook in Gilford, NH and will conclude over a month later on August 11th at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto.

"This year's power-packed lineup is probably the best Gigantour yet, and we've had some pretty massive Gigantours over the years," Mustaine said in the announcement. "Gigantour 2013 brings four of my favorite bands, each centered around a superstar. With Zakk, David, Vinnie, and Jason there are going to be fans from Ozzy to Disturbed to Pantera to Metallica and everything that's metal in-between! Don't miss the metal festival of the summer!"

Megadeth will follow the trek by joining Black Sabbath's South American tour this fall where they will be performing with the metal legends at four concerts. more on this story




Aerosmith, Boston, James Taylor To Play Boston Bombing Benefit Show
Aerosmith, Boston and James Taylor lead a lineup of prominent Boston musicians and other acts that are teaming up for a benefit concert for the victims of the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings.

The benefit concert, "Boston Strong: An Evening Of Support And Celebration," is set to take place on May 30th at the TD Garden in Boston.

The lineup will also feature Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffett, Dane Cook, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, Carole King, New Kids on the

James Taylor says that the event "is destined to be a true Boston landmark. From the promoters to the sound & lights, to the performers and the Garden staff; everyone involved has responded from the heart in a spontaneous and simultaneous desire to be there and to do what we can for the city we love. I am honored to be a part of it, and...I can't wait".





HIM Cancel Tour For Medical Reasons
The Finish hard rock band HIM were forced to cancel their North American tour after frontman Ville Valo was diagnosed with severe asthma with presumptive pneumonia.

The band officially announced the cancelation over the weekend for the tour which was set to kick off on Friday (May 3rd) in Los Angeles.

The band announced that tickets will be refunded and that they will be touring North America this summer when they take part in the Rock Allegiance tour with Volbeat, All That Remains and Airbourne. more on this story




Black Sabbath Doubted That Bill Ward Could Keep Up
(Classic Rock) Ozzy Osbourne says he, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler doubted that Bill Ward could play his full part in the Black Sabbath reunion. And the singer has suggested that there was more to the drummer's lack of involvement than a straightforward contract argument, observing that the drummer "can't be surprised that he didn't get the gig."

Osbourne tells Mojo, via Blabbermouth: "There was also another side to it. When Bill came along, we all had to ask, 'Can he do an hour-and-a-half, two-hour gig? Can he cope?'

"My suggestion was that we run through a set and see how he got on. He was so out of condition – and the drummer is the most demanding job in the whole band.

"Bill couldn't remember what the f**k we were doing. You know them yellow stick-on memo notes? He had them all over his f**king drums. I was like, 'What the f**k's that for, Bill?' He said, 'I can't remember what I'm doing.' He has more to say.




Metallica Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
(hennemusic) Metallica were honored with the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award at the 5th annual Revolver Golden God Awards in Los Angeles last Thursday.

The band received the honor from Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford, who would later join them for the group's live performance.

Metallica ripped through a 4-song set that included "Disposable Heroes," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Seek And Destroy" and Judas Priest's "Rapid Fire," with Halford on guest vocals. Watch video here.




Deftones Pay Tribute To Kris Kross's Chris Kelly
(Radio.com) During a show Wednesday (May 1) at the Pageant in St. Louis, Deftones paid tribute to 1990s teen rap duo Kris Kross by not only turning their pants backwards but by swapping the chorus of their hard rock hit "Engine No. 9" for "Jump."

"Chris from Kris Kross passed, who we represent full tonight… for the next three tracks," announced frontman Chino Moreno from the stage calling attention to his pants worn backward.

After uproarious audience applause he preached, "The Daddy Mac will make ya…" and let the audience fill in "jump jump."

Moreno called attention to drummer Abe Cunningham, who adorned pants both inside out and backwards. Check out video of the tribute here.




Slash, Duff McKagan and Dave Mustaine Tribute Jeff Hanneman
(Gibson) Tributes have been pouring in for Jeff Hanneman. One of the founding members of the pioneering thrash metal band Slayer, Hanneman died May 2 in California of liver failure. He was only 49.

Slayer's statement was simple. "Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11am this morning near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed."

Responding on Twitter, Slash wrote: "Tragic & shocking news about Jeff Hanneman. He is going to missed by so many. What a sad day for metal. RIP man."

Fellow former Guns N' Roses bandmate Duff McKagan wrote: "Jeff Hanneman of @Slayer RIP. Wow. I'm so very sorry for your loss Hanneman family."

Megadeth guitarist Dave Mustaine stated: "Tonight one less star will be shining and sadly, the stage got just a little bit darker. Jeff Hanneman 1964-2013."

Hanneman had been on hiatus from Slayer since early 2011, when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that doctors believed might have been caused by a spider bite. Hanneman almost lost his arm, and was briefly placed in a medically-induced coma. But after a series of skin grafts, he had been working on his physical rehabilitation, including playing guitar. more on this story






Metallica Rock SF Giants Game
(hennemusic) Metallica were the featured guests at the first Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday where they kicked off the San Francisco Giants' home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Metallica performing the National Anthem (you can watch the performance here) and drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the ceremonial first pitch (you can watch it here.)

As part of the festivities, fans were able to bid on one, or both, of the custom made Giants guitars played during the anthem by Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. more on this story




Vampire Weekend Release 'Ya Hey' Lyric Video
(Radio.com) Vampire Weekend continues to heighten the anticipation for Modern Vampires of the City by releasing a new song, "Ya Hey," in the form of a lyric video. The track will be featured on the band's upcoming third album, set for a May 14th release.

The moody, mid-tempo track strikes quite a contrast to previously-released single "Diane Young," and is closer in tone to that tune's accompanying B-side, "Step."

Where the lyric video for "Diane Young" unexpectedly courted controversy by featuring rare Saab automobiles on fire, the "Ya Hey" clip boasts images of people (including the band members) popping champagne bottle on a New York City rooftop.

The song features the band's customarily oblique lyrics, with the spoken-word last verse alluding to a music festival DJ set, referring to both reggae artist Desmond Dekker and the Rolling Stones: "Outside the tents, on the festival grounds/As the air began to cool, and the sun went down/My soul swooned, as I faintly heard the sound/Of you spinning 'Israelites'/Into '19th Nervous Breakdown.'" Judas Priest Stars To Attend Epitaph Theatrical Screening
(hennemusic) Judas Priest singer Rob Halford and guitarist Richie Faulkner will be on hand for the New York premiere screening of their new live DVD, "Epitaph."

The May 14 event at New York's Clearview Chelsea will be hosted by That Metal Show's Eddie Trunk. Due May 28, "Epitaph" captures the final show of the band's last ever world tour, filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo London on May 26, 2012.

Worldwide screenings begin May 16 in theaters across the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Bulgaria, Estonia, Romania, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Central America with many more to follow.

Whitesnake Releasing Another New Live Album
(hennemusic) Whitesnake will release their second live album this year. The new album, entitled "Made In Britain/The World Record," will be released on June 19.

The 2CD set includes "Made In Britain," featuring the best takes of the band's concerts in Britain in June 2011, and "The World Record," which contains rare tracks from Whitesnake's shows in Europe and America on the "Forevermore" tour.

Last month, Whitesnake issued the live package, "Made In Japan." The Deluxe 2CD/DVD Edition, Blu-ray and DVD captures the band in concert at the Loud Park festival on October 15th, 2011 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan during their Forevermore World Tour. more on this story




Gary Holt Pays Tribute To Slayer's Jeff Hanneman
(Classic Rock) Gary Holt has paid tribute to friend and colleague Jeff Hanneman, after standing in for the Slayer guitarist until his death on Thursday.

The Exodus axeman was called up in 2011 after Hanneman was bitten by a spider, leading to an attack of necrotising fasciitis that caused the loss of most of the flesh of his arm, and brought him close to death.

Now Holt has released a statement, saying he's "devastated" and that the news "hit me like a ton of bricks." He comments: "Jeff, it's been an honour, my brother, to try my best to honour your songs best I could.

"There is only one Jeff Hanneman. All I ever could hope to do was play those songs you wrote with the conviction with which you played and wrote them. There is only one of you; that mould was broken long ago." more.





3 'Iron Man' Covers For 'Iron Man 3′
(Radio.com) Iron Man 3 is now in theaters. The main cast members are back — Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan — while Don Cheadle returns as Col. James Rhodes for a second film.

In honor of the occasion, we thought we'd point out three covers of Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man." Sabbath's original was used in the credits of the first film (the second film's soundtrack was dominated by AC/DC), and Tony Stark was actually wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt in a crucial scene in The Avengers. Of course, you can't beat the original, from the band's classic second album, 1970′s Paranoid. But here are three others that aren't so bad.

Metallica: This band has a long history with Sabbath. They opened for singer Ozzy Osbourne in 1986, and are notably huge fans of the legendary metal group. Bassist Robert Trujillo played in Ozzy's backing band before joining Metallica (replacing Jason Newstead, who initially replaced Trujillo in Ozzy's band). So, when Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006 and declined to perform, it was no surprise that Metallica were called on to pay tribute. Below, watch Metallica's two-song set (they perform "Hole In The Sky" followed by "Iron Man," which starts at about 3:40).

The Cardigans: Metallica covering Sabbath is less of a shocker than say, Swedish twee group the Cardigans taking on the song. Sure, you wouldn't expect the band to cover "Iron Man," but they made the classic their own. Slowing things down, singer Nina Persson gets us into the groove right from the start, cooing, "I am Iron Man." It's the most adorable Ozzy impression you'll ever hear.

Eddie Van Halen & LL Cool J Appear on CNN
(hennemusic) Eddie Van Halen and LL Cool J were among the guests on Friday's edition of CNN's Piers Morgan Live and video from the appearance has gone online.

The pair were on hand to discuss their collaboration on the rapper's new album, "Authentic," which hit stores this past week. The guitar icon appears on two tracks: "We're the Greatest" and "Not Leaving You Tonight."

Eddie has made guest appearances on projects throughout his career, including records by Michael Jackson, Roger Waters, Steve Lukather, Dweezil Zappa, Thomas Dolby and Nicolette Larson. Watch the CNN appearance.

Beware Of Darkness Go Behind The Scenes
(Classic Rock) Los Angeles-based Beware Of Darkness are preparing to release their debut full-length album Orthodox and they introduce themselves in a behind-the-scenes UK tour clip.

This new power trio is made up of songwriter and guitarist Kyle Nicolaides, drummer Tony Cupito and bass general Daniel Curcio.

The band are set to release new single Howl on May 6 with its music video offering up a suitably visceral visual accompaniment. The Orthodox album will be out on May 27.

Beware Of Darkness have been staking a claim to UK soil over the past few weeks with a series of live dates including support slots with the likes of Skunk Anansie and their very own headline performances. They're set to continue on their UK journey with a stint supporting Smashing Pumpkins in July, among various European festival appearances.

Killswitch Engage's Howard Jones Was In A Coma For 3 Days
Former Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones discloses in a new interview that he was in a coma last year for three days due to his type 2 diabetes.
Jones revealed the news in an interview with Metal Hammer. He told them, "Finding out you're diabetic is pretty dramatic. I just started feeling weird, and then I started getting really clumsy. I fell down some stars and broke a finger, then fell down some other stairs and broke a toe. Then I collapsed.

"I was in a coma for three days. They basically told me I had the highest sugar level they'd ever seen. Afterwards, they told me I had a 50/50 chance of coming out with brain damage."

In January of 2012 Jones issued a statement about his reasons for leaving Killswitch Engage and touched on the illness, "Well, I guess I will shed a little light without going too deep. As some of you may know, I've had a pretty interesting couple of years to say the least battling with some personal issues. One of the low points being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes that went unchecked for years. The rest of the band stuck with me through it, and to be honest they are the ones that kept me going. The whole experience definitely put a scare in me." Read the rest here.

Black Sabbath With Ginger Baker? Rick Rubin Explains
(Classic Rock) Rick Rubin has explained why he suggested Ginger Baker should play on new Black Sabbath album 13. The producer came up with a list of names including the Cream icon after Bill Ward withdrew from the project. And even though Sabbath vetoed the idea, Rubin had a good reason for putting it forward.

He tells Mojo: "He was on the list I submitted to them. Certain people were dismissed outright by the band, based on having dealt with them on the past, or the baggage. It wasn't always about drumming ability.

"He was on my list because I wanted to get someone who had grown up in the same world as them, and who jammed the way they did. There aren't many of those people left. Most of them are dead.

"I was asking: who grew up listening to the same music as them? Who played in bands where they jammed back then? It's a very different thing from the way hard rock and heavy metal drummers play today. That's the kind of drummer I was looking for." more on this story




David Lee Roth Says Van Halen Are Avoiding Overexposure
(Classic Rock) It may come as a surprise, but Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth believes there's a limit to how much exposure his band should get.

During a recent TV show he explains his theory that their appearances should be like James Bond movies. He says: "Those first 15 years you tour constantly. You're everywhere.

"Now we're on what I call the James Bond schedule. James Bond movies only come out every three years or so. It's been around so long and it's so familiar that, any sooner and its, 'What did he just do?'"

In the full show Roth explains that his house in Pasadena is just about his only example of rock'n'roll excess when it comes to possessions, saying: "I've been here the length of the Van Halen career. A lot of folks in my position like things and stuff – an Italian sports car with a six-syllable name and an Italian trophy wife with a five-syllable name. Metallica Jam With SF Giants Pitcher Barry Zito
(hennemusic) Ahead of the first Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco this Friday (May 3), MLB is sharing video of Giants pitcher Barry Zito hanging out and jamming with the metal legends.

Metallica will be on hand to kick off the San Francisco Giants' home-opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday by performing the National Anthem and throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

As part of the festivities, fans can bid on one, or both, of the custom made Giants guitars played during the anthem by Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. More.




Deep Purple Debated Making New Album
(Classic Rock) Deep Purple spent three years wondering whether they should make 19th studio album Now What?! says bassist Roger Glover. The band struggled over the decision until they spoke to producer Bob Ezrin last year, and he crystallized their thinking.

"There were different theories in the band about whether we should do a record again, whether we should release an EP, or some singles on the Internet," Glover tells Vintage Rock. "But the bottom line of thinking is: we're an album band and we always were an album band.

"We kind of railed against doing singles. That's kind of strange vanity – but an album, especially with a band like us, is a sort of state of the union address, if you like. It's the state of the band that we're in now.

"Every album we make is a kind of a point in time. I thought we needed to do one. Three years ago, we started thinking seriously, 'Let's have a writing session.' We had no idea where or when we were going to record it." He continues here.





Five Finger Death Punch To Debut Song From New Double Album
Five Finger Death Punch have recorded enough new music for two albums and will be releasing the effort in two different volumes and will debut the first single at the Golden Gods Awards tonight in Los Angeles.

The band have set a July 23rd release date for Vol. 1 of the double album and plan to release Vol. 2 of the effort at a date to be determined this fall.

Guitarist Zoltan Bathory explains why they went with a double album, "We came off the road after a couple of great years of touring and were really amped up to write the 4th record.

"Everybody was in the right headspace and the band tighter than ever so it was a perfect storm. We jumped in head first and found ourselves 12-13 songs deep fairly quick but were still coming up with better and better material so we looked at each other and said, 'why stop there? Let's keep going.'

"Once we passed the 24th song we knew we're going to have to do a double album. We had this massive amount of music that's very dear to us, possibly the best material this band has ever created. At that point there was no way to decide which songs to leave off the album. So we made the decision to release them all."

Fans can tune in to tonight's (May 2nd) AXS TV and Xbox Live broadcast of the Golden Gods Awards to watch the band perform the first single "Lift Me Up." The show will also feature performances from Metallica, Stone Sour, Halestorm and more.

The band will be releasing the single on May 14th and it will be released to radio on May 13th. more on this story





Beck To Debut New Music At Shows This Summer
(Radio.com) Beck is gearing up to premiere songs from an upcoming acoustic album during a handful of recently announced concerts this summer.

According to a press release, Beck will perform "special acoustic sets with minimal accompaniment" in Paris at the Days Off Festival (July 2), as part of Bob Dylan's Americanarama Festival in Wantagh, NY (July 27) and again the following night at the Newport Folk Festival (July 28). He'll use those shows to road-test the new songs as well as "best-loved classics" from his extensive catalog.

In addition to the acoustic shows, Beck will bring out a full band for "a pair of full-on electric blow-outs," scheduled for Boston's Bank of America Pavilion on August 2 and Brooklyn's Prospect Park on August 4.

These shows are described as similar to what he delivered on the festival circuit last year, including the 2012 editions of Outside Lands and the Governors Ball. more on this story




Foo Fighters Star To Rock Johnny Cash Tribute Revival
Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett's alt-country side project The Dead Peasants has been added to the lineup for this year's Roadshow Revival: A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash.

The event will be celebrating its fifth year this year and will be taking place during Father's Day weekend at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA on June 15th.

Organizers are still adding acts to the lineup but so far they have announced Junior Brown, The Americans, The Blasters, Robert Gordon, Johnny Cash tribute bands Cash'd Out and The Walking Phoenixes. You can find more details here.




Black Sabbath To Offer Best Buy Bonus
(hennemusic) Best Buy will sell a version of the new Black Sabbath album, "13," that features an exclusive bonus track when the album is released on June 11th.

"Naïveté In Black" is one of four bonus songs with the package, but the only one available via the North American retailer; the additional tracks also include "Methademic," "Peace Of Mind," and "Pariah."

Classic Sublime Concert Set For Release
Sublime celebrate their 25th anniversary this year and will mark the occasion with the release of "Sublime's 3 Ring Circus: Live at the Palace - October 21, 1995."

The concert took place at the Palace in Hollywood, Ca and features the band performing 27 songs including "Date Rape," "Badfish," and "40 Oz To Freedom."

It will be released in three different configuration on June 18th and features remastered and remixed multi-source live audio taken for the original master tapes.

The DVD version will include the concert video, which was newly edited using Hi-8 video and recently discovered 16mm and Super 8 film footage, according to the announcement.

The CD version will feature the audio recording of the concert and the deluxe 2DVD+CD Deluxe package will feature the audio and video, the original Hi-8 Palace concert video (unedited), an exclusive poster, laminated backstage pass and an additional bonus concert video of Sublime live at the Las Palmas Theater from February 17, 1995. more on this story

Steven Van Zandt Demands Procol Harum Rock Hall Induction
(Radio.com) Last week, Radio.com spoke with Bruce Springsteen sidekick and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt about his Rock And Roll Forever Foundation, his initiative to get music history integrated with public school curriculum. But Little Steven being Little Steven, he's juggling a number of projects right now.

We spoke to him about a few other things on his agenda including his recent hiatus from E Street Band, the Rascals' reunion shows (which he prompted and produced) and, for the fun of it, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, which he often seems to be at least peripherally involved in.

Van Zandt famously advocated for the Rascals' induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1997. Another group whom he campaigned for was the Hollies. Former members Allen Clarke and Graham Nash attended the ceremony, but founding members Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott were unable to attend… because the current version of the Hollies had a gig in London the night of the induction. This still rankles Van Zandt.

"I couldn't get all the Hollies to show up to the f***ing Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame," he said, "after I practically had to kill people to get them in!"

So, who is the next artist who he thinks deserves induction? "Easy answer: Procol Harum!" he declares, with no pause at all. "It's absurd that they aren't in yet! They're No. 1 for me, on my ballot. I have a lot of No. 2′s, including Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio, the greatest rockabilly group of all time, arguably… other than Elvis, Scotty and Bill," referencing Elvis Presley and his early backing group Scotty Moore (on guitar) and Bill Black (on bass). Chevy Metal, The Bronx For Metallica's Orion Fest After Shows
Metallica have announced the details for the "after shows" to their upcoming Orion Music + More music festival that will be taking place on June 8th and 9th in Detroit.

There will be two after shows for the first night of the festival. One will be taking place at the Majestic Theatre and will feature performances by Chevy Metal (featuring Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters), The Bronx and The Orwells. The other after show will be at St. Andrews Hall and will feature sets from Baroness and Coliseum.

The after party for the second night of the festival will take place at the Fillmore and feature performances from Dillon Francis, Adventure Club and 12th Planet.




Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been On The Call's Reunion
(Gibson) 2013 is already a landmark year for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been. The co-singer/bassist/guitarist has reunited his late father's band, The Call, and BRMC have just released a fine new album, Specter at the Feast.

The Call were the acclaimed '80s band led by Robert's father, Michael Been. And Michael was also key to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Michael was their live sound engineer right up to his sudden death in 2010. Robert took the place of his father in The Call's L.A. reunion shows of April 2013, and a live DVD of the shows is being edited. And BRMC's Specter at the Feast is also something of a tribute to Been senior: the storming single "Let the Day Begin" is a cover of The Call's best-known song of the 1980s.

Gibson.com asked Robert Levon Been about Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Call and BRMC's Epiphone and Gibson gear…

Was reuniting The Call your idea or did you get asked by the other members? Not sure it was anyone's "idea," we just connected. Those guys were like a second family to me when I was growing up. I was always on the road as a kid with my dad, so I knew them. It took a year to find a window to hook up. It was a shot in the dark, but rewarding. When I strapped on an old fretless bass of my father's, I felt pressure, sure. And his vocal range is much wider than mine. So, I'm not sure how we did it, but we did.

How was it playing your late father's music? I was a nervous wreck before the shows. It was intense. I had 20 songs to learn, songs I thought I knew… but when it comes to the bridge or the third verse, it became harder. But it was a beautiful experience. It was very emotional for me. But it wasn't just to honor my father. It was also about the other guys in The Call. Their hearts are still in it, they're still playing music, even if it's in bar bands just scraping by. But I learned a lot from them, and it was great to do it for them. more on this story






Foals Have No Desire To Be An 'Arena Rock Band'
(Radio.com) Foals reveals in a new interview with Radio.com that they have no desire to be an 'arena rock band,' and they offer up their reasons for the stance.

There's a kind of an arrogance in thinking that you can dictate who you can write your songs for," explained Foals' Yannis Phillippakis in a recent interview with Radio.com. The British rockers have recently found themselves playing to both large and very diverse audiences as a result of their sophomore album Holy Fire, released back in February.

"I do think it's a good thing having a more diverse crowd," Phillippakis continued. "Since the early days when we started out we only played to cool kids at house parties that were in the know. And it's nice to have transcended that kind of clique or that niche. I like the idea that our songs can mean an equal amount to someone in Indonesia or some guy in the North of England who are in very different conditions. I like that it can transcend those types of boundaries."

This is an issue with any band that equates cool factor with audience size. The bigger the audience, the less cool the band must be. And when you place a high value on remaining cool, it's a battle that requires real introspection.

"It seems the more successful you get, your quality of life or the quality of your musical profession is diminished. It's made up for financially but in terms of the fun of music for us of playing and touring and being able to feel like we're connecting. At that [arena] level you can't [connect]." more on this story




Black Spiders Launch PledgeMusic Campaign For New Album
(Classic Rock) Black Spiders have announced their second album will be called This Savage Land. It'll be available via PledgeMusic to pre-order from today (May 1) with the official release on September 2.

The band promise they'll return with "10 songs all equally as epic in proportion as the one before in the classic full-length album format". (By "the one before" they're presumably referring to their acclaimed debut Sons Of The North.)

Singled Out: Digital Daggers' Out of My Head
Today Andrea Wasse from L.A. alternative duo Digital Daggers tells us about their single "Out of My Head" from their forthcoming album "Close Your Eyes," which will be released on June 11th. Here is the story:

Out of My Head is probably the 'poppiest' song we've done, which is funny because at the time, I was feeling anything but poppy.

When we started writing this song, I was in the grips of a very on again/off again relationship with someone that was making me a little crazy… well, more than a little crazy. I was also still dealing with the aftermath of a long-term relationship that had ended months prior to that, so let's just say that at that time, I wasn't exactly the poster girl for mental sanity.

In fact, I was so wrapped up in sulking, obsessing, and feeling sorry for myself that I wasn't prepared to do anything productive.

Luckily Digital Daggers is a duo, and my partner in crime is a bit of a driving force. He insisted we get together and work on something. So I (begrudgingly) met up with him at our studio, and took the opportunity to exorcise some demons.

I sat down, grabbed an acoustic guitar and played him the first verse, something I'd kind of had milling around my head for a little bit. When I was done, I looked up and saw this look in his eyes, which after having worked together for so long, I know well and hope for. It's almost like something sparks inside his brain and he thinks 'I can do something with this!'…

So we started writing. We threw some ideas and lyrics around, Space started building a track full of cool, almost 90s sounding guitars (a la Elastica), lush yet driving synths, and a really steady beat… the energy in the room was so light that I actually found myself getting up and dancing. It felt like a truly cathartic moment, purging the negativity that had cropped up in my life… just getting it all out of my head- hence the lyrics in the chorus and title of the song.

It took us a few days to fine tune it and get it all recorded, making sure each lyric and sound was right, and in the end we had a song and recording that we were both really happy with. And that's the thing, by the end of that process, I was HAPPY.

Which is a strange and wonderful thing.

Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard Releases New Solo Song
(Classic Rock) Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard has released his track "Both Live" from upcoming solo album Moonlander and you can listen to the track online.

He says of the third piece to appear from the record: "It's a song I wrote while paddling on Lake Washington, thinking about a friend, who I dreamed set me free from a past restraint. It's more-or-less about how meditation on a conflict can give way to a new understanding. One person doesn't have to lose for the other to win."

He's gone through more than 60 ideas that he'd noted down since his last outing, and says one thing hasn't changed about his approach. "The things I was attracted to then are still the same things I'm attracted to now – oddball riffs that strike my ear as being different. Listen to the new song here.





Iggy and the Stooges Burn For Colbert Report Encore
(Gibson) Iggy and the Stooges ripped through a performance of "Job," a new song from their just-released Ready to Die album, on The Colbert Report on Tuesday (April 30).

After the show, the band stuck around to deliver an encore, scorching through a track titled "Burn." The second segment didn't make the official broadcast, but Stooges fans can watch the band performing "Burn" on the The Colbert Report website.

Iggy, dressed in a suit, was also interviewed by Colbert. Asked about his predilection for going shirtless, the punk icon simply said, "The Pharaoh never wore a shirt."

Thirty seconds into the performance of "Job," Pop charged into the studio crowd, recruiting members of the audience to join him in singing the refrain.

What Now Release If Looks Could Kill Video
(Classic Rock) What Now have unveiled a video for "If Looks Could Kill," which is the second single to be released from their latest album Move Like A Sinner.

Having grown up in the dusty beach town of Ballito, South Africa – a place known for its surfing and skateboarding, but with little trace of a music scene – vocalist and guitarist Ryan Morris met drummer Adam Jenkins at school, before recruiting vocalist and bassist Tyron Layley after overhearing him singing at a friend's house.

In their first year, What Now recorded their debut EP, designing their own artwork and printing the CDs at home – spawning a DIY ethic that has stuck with them ever since. Next came a full-length album.

"When our debut record came out we got great radio play on the big South African stations," says Morris. "It was our first taste of real success and we were all delighted of course, but we're a very ambitious band and we just wanted to go big. We didn't want to be trapped in South Africa and be limited by that further down the line. It was an incredibly tough decision, but we knew that we had to leave."

Aerosmith Member Leaves Tour For Medical Reasons
Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton was reportedly forced to drop off the band's current tour of Australia and return home for medical reasons, according to Noise 11.
They report that Hamilton was sidelined by a chest infection and the band flew in The Joe Perry Project's David Hull to fill-in during Sunday night's concert in Melbourne.

Hamilton was able to perform with the band during the previous dates in Australia and New Zealand. The band has two more concerts scheduled on the leg of the tour before they head to the Philippines and then Indonesia.

The dates are part of the group's Global Warming World Tour in support of their latest studio album, "Music From Another Dimension." more on this story




Rolling Stones Play Secret Club Show
(Classic Rock) The Rolling Stones played another "secret" show on Saturday night when they hit the stage in a 700-capacity club in Los Angeles and you can view a short video from the show online.

Just an hour's notice was given that tickets were on sale for the gig at Echoplex in the city's Echo Park area. They were priced just $20 and offered on a lottery basis, with lucky buyers asked to put on a wristband and have a photo taken for ID purposes.
Local TV news station KTLA reported that more than 2000 people had queued up for the chance to see Mick Jagger and co, with many of them remaining outside the venue even after they knew they had no chance of getting in.

The band appeared with former member Mick Taylor and other guests Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Bernard Fowler, Lisa Fischer and Bobby Keys, playing a 14-song set ahead of the tour, which kicks off on Friday. Read more and check out video from the show here.




Geoff Tate Challenges Queensryche Haters
(Classic Rock) Geoff Tate has taken the bull by the horns in the face of criticism of new Queensryche album Frequency Unknown – he's offering a prize for the best video rant from a hater who's prepared to shed their anonymity.

The record was remixed after fans complained about the album's original version, Tate's first since forming his own Queensryche after being fired by the older lineup last year.

Record label Cleopatra have even gone as far as to offer a free replacement to anyone who submits a receipt for the original release. Now Tate has taken matters one step further. The band say on a website post (originally delivered in angry capitals): "Do you really hate the new Queensryche Frequency Unknown album? Have you already blogged about it online? Well metal geeks, if you got the balls to stand behind your opinion then here is the contest for you." more.




Grateful Dead Legend Bob Weir Collapses On Stage
(Radio.com) Grateful Dead guitarist/singer Bob Weir collapsed onstage during a show with his band Furthur (which also features the Dead's Phil Lesh) last night (April 25) at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York.

To quote the Dead's own song, the music never stopped. The band played on as Weir fell down during a performance of the Dead's "Unbroken Chain." In a YouTube video, Weir collapses about 55 seconds in. The band's roadies helped him get back up and gave him a chair to sit on to finish the song.

Furthur was playing the ninth and final show of a residency at the Capitol, a venue where the Grateful Dead performed during their heyday. Jambase cited reports that Weir had been struggling throughout the show, both on vocals and guitar.

Weir left after "Unbroken Chain," with Lesh explaining to the crowd that Weir had suffered a strained shoulder earlier in the day and the band would be finishing the second set without him. Furthur's next scheduled gig is Saturday night (April 27) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. See the video here




No New Metallica Album Until 2015?
(Classic Rock) Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich admits fans are likely to wait until 2015 for the release of the follow-up to their 2008 album Death Magnetic.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett recently said he hoped the new record would appear next year – but Ulrich thinks it won't happen for another two years.

He tells South Africa's Channel 24: "It would surprise me if the next full-length record would come out before 2015. It takes us a while to make records, and we're also so busy with so many other things. But we'll get around to it eventually." more on this story




John Fogerty Planning Creedence Clearwater Revival Full Albums Tour
(Radio.com) One of the highlights of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony came early in the night, as Randy Newman was joined by Tom Petty, Jackson Browne and John Fogerty for a rocking run through his hit "I Love L.A."

Radio.com spoke to Fogerty before he performed with Newman at the induction ceremony and learned Fogerty will continue revisiting his past on his upcoming tour, which has yet to be announced.

He says he will be performing full albums by his former band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, during the shows, as he's done previously.

"That's the plan," he said. "It's far enough away that we really haven't decided which [albums]. We did a tour of Canada last fall [of the full-album performances] that went really well. It was fun to get into all those songs. The more you tell stories about it, the more things you remember." more.




Elderly Couple Charged After Using Iron Maiden For Revenge
(Classic Rock) An elderly couple from Stockholm face harassment charges after they took revenge on a noisy neighbor by playing Iron Maiden at full volume late at night.

An unnamed woman, 71, and her husband, 81, started bombarding the house next door with repeated plays of the band's track Afraid To Shoot Strangers, sometimes keeping it going until 4am.

The woman said they felt forced to act after a "whistling noise" kept them awake, and she'd had to take sleeping pills to help ignore it. "We wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine," she told Swedish police.

The neighbour, who endured the audio assault throughout most of last winter, said: "The harassment has just carried on. I am completely broken down." more on this story




Ozzy Osbourne Once Banned From San Antonio, Now Celebrated There
(hennemusic) Ozzy Osbourne is featured on San Antonio's first-ever Fiesta medal. The medal was designed by artist Jim Mendiola and Ruben Ortiz-Torres; it pictures Ozzy as a bat, with an upside down Alamo serving as each wing.

Ozzy has a well-known history in San Antonio. He was banned from ever performing in the city after he was arrested in 1982 for urinating near the Alamo.

In 1992, Ozzy reportedly donated $10,000 to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas — caretakers of The Alamo, before being allowed to perform again in San Antonio. "We all have done things in our lives that we regret," said Ozzy at the time. "I am deeply honored that the people of San Antonio have found it in their hearts to have me back. Lake Believes Jimi Hendrix and ELP Collaboration Wouldn't Have Worked
(Classic Rock) The proposed collaboration between ELP and Jimi Hendrix would never have worked, Greg Lake believes.

The guitar icon was set to join the prog rock giants in 1970, but died before it happened. And while frontman Lake regrets that tragedy, he doesn't think Hendrix and Keith Emerson could have operated together in the same band.

Lake recalls the speculation over the band calling itself 'HELP', telling BackstageAxxess: "It didn't escape the notice of the press at the time." He continues: "I never believed it would have worked in the long run. It would have been great for a couple of days. Jimi was fantastic, and Keith also – but two virtuoso players in one band? It would have soon melted down.

"It was very sad that when Jimi came back to England he was found dead in his flat. It was a big loss. It was a strange time for us. We'd come close to playing with him, and all of a sudden he was dead." More from Lake including other topics.




Night Ranger Added To Next KISS Kruise
(hennemusic) KISS have announced the addition of Night Ranger to KISS Kruise III this fall. Leogun and Big Rock Show have also been added to the roster; both bands have played previous KISS Kruises.

The event getaway is set for October 28 - November 1, 2013 on board The Norwegian Pearl sailing from Miami, Florida to Key West, Florida and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.

KISS began their cruise trips in 2011 after several other rockers had already established the business model, including 311, Bret Michaels, Kid Rock, Sammy Hagar, ShipRocked, Rock Legends, VH1 Best Cruise Ever…and others.

Full Song Video Released From Forthcoming Dio DVD
(Classic Rock) Eagle Rock have released a clip of Dio performing Sacred Heart live in 1986. It's taken from upcoming DVD Finding The Sacred Heart – Live In Philly 1986, which comes out on May 28.

It was the second leg of Dio's tour in support of 1985 album Sacred Heart, which was the last to feature guitarist Vivian Campbell.

He went on to join Whitesnake and Def Leppard, and by the time the video was shot he'd been replaced by Craig Goldy. He and Ronnie James Dio performed alongside Jimmy Bain, Vinny Appice and Claude Schnell. Check out the video and tracklisting here.




Hypocrisy and Aborted Pull Out Of North American Tour
There is more fallout from Hypocrisy being forced to pull out of their North American tour due to visa issues. Aborted have now announced that they will also not be able to continue with the trek.

The two remaining bands, Krisiun and Arsis, still plan to continue with the tour. Aborted broke the news to fans with the following message:

"Unfortunately, rumors are true. We were forced to pull out of our north American tour with Hypocrisy, Krisiun and Arsis. Due to reasons beyond control, Hypocrisy were not able to receive their us visas in time and had to pull out. We only found out three days ago and were sharing transport with Hypocrisy. Being this close to the start of tour finding an affordable method of transportation and a driver was a near impossible task, making it impossible for us to still make it.

"We are extremely disappointed as we were very excited to make it back out to the us for our fans and share the stage on this great line up. We had flights booked. Visas processed and everything good to go so when the news hit it came as a shock. This cost us several thousands of dollars out of our own pockets and continuing would cost us even more money, which we simply don't have. We apologize to the fans and are already looking for a replacement tour in the near future.

"Krisiun and Arsis are still doing the tour and we urge you all to still go and support them. All the bands here are victims in this of bureaucratic procedures so no need to point fingers. We are all as broken by this as anyone else." more on this story




Joe Satriani and Steve Morse Plan Summer Tour
(hennemusic) Joe Satriani has announced a U.S. tour in support of his forthcoming album, "The Unstoppable Momentum." The Steve Morse Band will open the shows.

Shows begin August 29 in San Diego, CA at the Balboa Theatre and are scheduled to wrap up October 26 in Oakland, CA at the Fox Theater.

Joining Satriani on the road are veteran bandmate Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai) on keyboards, along with a new rhythm-section, featuring bassist Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Dweezil Zappa) and drummer Marco Minnemann (Adrian Belew, Steve Wilson). more on this story

Muse Had Fun With Panic Station
(Radio.com) During a recent interview with Charlotte station Kiss 95.1, Muse bass player Christopher Wolstenholme spoke about the band's current tour, their latest music video and Matt Bellamy's impending nuptials with fiancee Kate Hudson.

When it comes to being named "the greatest band of all time to see live by NME readers," Wolstenholme admitted that an over-the-top live show is what Muse values most as a band.

"We obviously try to make as big of a spectacle as we can when we play live and we just love the whole excitement of the whole package," he admits. As far as what fans can expect from this tour, he said, "I think this tour… is as far as we've gone in terms of production for an indoor show."

The trio have followed up 2012 hit "Madness" with "Panic Station," and the single's controversial video was released just this week. Wolstenholme raved about the video shoot, noting it was "really, really fun" when they filmed it themselves in Tokyo with some simple HD cameras and "silly outfits." "I think it's the first video we've filmed where we genuinely had a fun time making it," he said. More including the video.

Slash Asks Fans To Help Save Sharks
(Gibson) Slash has thrown his hat behind a new campaign to combat the slaughter of sharks. The guitarist has filmed a spot for Shark Friendly Marinas in which he explains the issue and urges his fans to get involved.

He says in his video, "Recent data shows that over 100 million sharks are being killed a year. That's three sharks every second. That's unsustainable and it's not cool. We need sharks to have a healthy ocean. Please get involved by ending the harvest. Don't buy shark products, don't fish for sharks and if you happen to catch one, catch and release. Let it go."

Slash is well known for his love of animals. He's had snakes as pets and serves as a board member at the Los Angeles Zoo, for which he has also filmed several promo spots. He told The Pulse Of Radio about his long-time involvement with the zoo. "Well, I've been an animal fanatic ever since I can remember, so when I moved to Los Angeles, it was just automatic that I would attach myself to the Los Angeles Zoo," he said. "At some point a few years ago, a friend of mine, she's on the board at the L.A. Zoo, so she introduced me to the higher-ups over there and said, 'This is a perfect candidate for blah blah blah.' Vintage Trouble Trying To Bring Back Vintage Sound

Having just finished a performance at Coachella and gearing up for a summer tour with the Who before opening for the Rolling Stones at Hyde Park this July, the Los Angeles band is bringing their vintage soul flavor to the masses.

"We listen to so much old music for inspiration and then we just try to give it who we are today to make it a little more contemporary," frontman Ty Taylor told Radio.com.

"There's so many dance songs from back in the day and nowadays that's not the case. A lot of times people consider the best songs of the times to be the ones where you have to turn your head to the side and really listen and really get into it but the world is so heavy now that maybe all we need to do is just shake."

Inspiration comes to Vintage Trouble in various forms, whether it be from older music or their own personal lives. One track, "Nancy Lee," specifically came about as an ode to Taylor's mother.

"'Nancy Lee' is my mother and it's the story of when my mom and dad first met," he said. "I did it lyrically from my dad's point of view because he was more of a meat and potatoes kind of person, he wasn't someone that would ever write a song. I thought it would be great for my mom to hear a song about her. I thought it'd be better to have it be of a time when my mom and dad fell in love." more.





Video from Alice In Chains Tour Kick Off Goes Online
(hennemusic) Alice In Chains kicked off their 2013 tour in Miami Beach on Thursday night and video footage from the show has been posted online.

The 18-song set at The Fillmore featured a host of classics, as well as two new tracks from the band's latest release, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here."

Both released as singles, "Hollow" and "Stone" were from the new record, which is due May 28. Check out the video here.




Rival Sons Release Fan Sourced Wild Animal Video
(Classic Rock) Rival Sons have posted a fan-made video for latest single Wild Animal from the album Head Down. Recently returned home to California after a successful, near sell-out European headline tour, the band put together the clip from fans' competition entries.

Drummer Michael Miley comments: "So check it out. Before our recent European tour, we asked our fans to submit 20-second clips inspired by the song Wild Animal. What a riot it was going through these! Now we present to you the culmination of our fans' hard work and creativity on 'The Official Wild Animal Fan Clip'."

The tub-thumper adds: "We're always interested in encouraging creativity – so many of our fans worldwide totally put real time and effort into these clips; the entries were awesome and far exceeded our expectations. Dan Reed Releases Signal Fire Video
(Classic Rock) Dan Reed has released a video for Signal Fire, the title track of his second solo album and Classic Rock also spoke with him about the album.

Reed tells Classic Rock: "On the album cover where I'm holding the ball of light, that light is the signal fire. I don't know if you want to call it a vision or a dream, or imagination – but it was of getting a message from a species from another part of the galaxy, saying we can get our act together.

"They suffered the perils of being divided. 'Hey, we suffered through this and we made it. You can too.'" Read more and watch the video here.




Inside Story Of The Lost Rory Gallagher Album
(Gibson) When Rory Gallagher left us in 1995, he also left behind a rich body of work. From hard-hitting blues to tender acoustic music to R&B to Celtic influences, Gallagher was an engaging performer and an astonishingly gifted guitarist. His discography includes well over a dozen albums, between power trio Taste (beginning in 1969) and his solo works (from 1971's self-titled album to 1990's Fresh Evidence), but hardcore fans have long known about a mysterious lost record, an album which was recorded in the late '70s but never released. That album has now seen the light of day as Notes from San Francisco via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Gallagher said in 1992 that he would be happy to release the material some day, provided it was remixed, but it took until this year for Rory's brother (and tour manager) Donal Gallagher to let the recording out into the world.

"Rory had always harbored the ambition to make an album in the States," Donal says. "Through the early part of the '70s with Polydor that dream hadn't come to fruition, so when he switched labels in '75 to Chrysalis, he had two albums that were a strong success but weren't what you'd call chart breakthroughs."

Rory had worked with a producer for the first time on Calling Card – Roger Glover of Deep Purple, in fact – but wasn't entirely happy with the mix of that record, so the idea of tracking the follow-up in America was flown up the pole. Chrysalis had been working with producer Elliot Mazer (Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Frank Sinatra) on a few other acts, and it just so happened that Mazer and Rory had hit it off during the final Taste tour a few years earlier.

"In the course of that tour, Rory wasn't talking to too many people," Donal says. "The band had already split up, and were doing a farewell tour. So Rory spent his time with Elliot."

Musically, Rory was very into American music, from Muscle Shoals to the blues, so he and Mazer had a lot to talk about

Rolling Stones Delay Tour Kick Off
(hennemusic) The Rolling Stones have announced a scheduling change for the opening night of their "50 & Counting" tour, which has been delayed.
The band will now kick things off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday May 3. The original May 2 show was rescheduled due to the NBA playoff schedule.

Fans are being advised to hold on to their tickets as they will be honored for the rescheduled date. The tour will see the Stones play 17 shows across North America. more on this story




Sharon Osbourne Addresses 'Distorted' Ozzy Divorce Rumors
(hennemusic) Sharon Osbourne addressed the rumors that she and Ozzy are headed for divorce on Tuesday's edition of the CBS series, The Talk.

"Everything that was printed in the tabloids has been distorted," explained Sharon. "There's always a little seed of truth to everything that gets reported, but then it gets very distorted."

"The only thing that's true," she continued, "is the Facebook posting that my husband did on his Facebook where he said he's been using alcohol and prescription drugs for the last year and a half, and that he's been an asshole, and he's been in a very dark place. That's true - it's very true. Everybody knows he's been struggling with this his entire life, and I never knew that he was using prescription drugs. I knew he was drinking occasionally, but I didn't realize, you know, to the extent."

"It's our business, we're dealing with it," summed up Sharon. "We're not getting divorced, however, am I happy? No. Am I upset? Yes, I am. I'm devastated right now. It's a disease that not only hurts the person that has the disease, but it hurts the family. It hurts people who love you. We're dealing with it. 3 Doors Down's Todd Harrell Out of Jail On Bail
3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell was released on $100,000 bail on Tuesday. He is due in court tomorrow to faces charges including vehicular homicide while intoxicated, according to TMZ

As we previously reported earlier this week, Harrell was speeding when his Cadillac clipped a Ford pickup truck whose driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Harrell reportedly admitted to drinking hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax. And when he was being booked into jail Davidson County Sheriff's deputies discovered a plastic bag in his sock which reportedly contained Xanax, Oxycodone and Oxymorphone pills.

He was charged with vehicular homicide and bringing controlled substances into the jail, according to reports. The band canceled their spring tour dates in North America following Harrell's arrest.




Bon Jovi To Stream Concert and Jon Addresses Richie Sambora's Absence
Bon Jovi will be streaming the final stop on their current North American tour and Jon Bon Jovi addressed Richie Sambora's absence from the tour.

Jon appeared on the Ellen show and was asked about Sambora's last minute announcement that he was not taking part in the tour for personal reasons.

Bon Jovi responded, "Okay…well…all I can say is that, honest to God, it's a personal matter, but we love him very much and he's absolutely still a member of the band."

He also explained to Ellen what makes the band work, "We like each other, I think that was really the key. We all had to have a lot of give and take, you had to go through some ups and downs. Matt Sorum Happy In New Supergroup
(Classic Rock) Ex Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum is much happier working with supergroup Kings of Chaos than going through the pain of starting a new band.

The outfit includes fellow ex-GnR men GIlby Clarke and Duff McKagan alongside Sebastian Bach, Joe Elliott, Glenn Hughes and Collective Soul's Ed Roland.

Sorum says: "I haven't really got the energy to go and try and create a band. I mean, how many bands do I have in my back pocket? I'd rather just get a bunch of great guys together that everybody knows and go and play a bunch of shows to 60,000 people.

"Velvet Revolver took us 18 months to build up. I don't really want to go on the road for 18 months any more, which will basically kill you unless you're doing hard drugs – and I don't do hard drugs any more. This idea that I came up with is like a release for the other guys." More rock news

(Classic Rock) Friends and fans of King's X have launched a fundraising campaign to pay for frontman dUg Pinnick's hernia surgery.

He's been working on through the pain barrier because he doesn't have health insurance. So fans are being asked to help raise $25,000.

A statement says: "dUg is not only one of rock's greatest musicians of all time, he is also the kindest soul, who takes his time to talk to everyone he encounters. He has been labeled the 'sweetest guy in the industry.'" more on this story





Rush's Neil Peart Made Dave Grohl Cry
(Classic Rock) Rush drummer Neil Peart made Dave Grohl cry – because he made the Foo Fighters mainman a cup of coffee. Grohl and bandmate Taylor Hawkins inducted the Canadian giants into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame last week, and it was an emotional experience.

Grohl tells Rolling Stone: "It's terrifying to play your favourite band's song in front of your favourite band. It's one thing to sit in the basement and woodshed 2112 – it's another to stand in front of Rush in a f**king kimono and a wig, and try to use a wah-wah pedal in your platform shoes."

Grohl was inspired to become a drummer after hearing the 1976 album – so meeting Peart at rehearsals was a big moment in his life. He explains: "This man was as influential as any religion, or any hero. He said: 'So nice to meet you. Can I make you a coffee?' And he made me a coffee.

"Later on that night, I went to dinner and had a couple of glasses of wine. And I started f**king crying, because my hero made me a cup of coffee."

Alice In Chains Expand Tour Plans
(hennemusic) Alice In Chains have announced their first ever cross-Canada tour. The trip will be in support of the band's forthcoming album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here."

The summer run of shows begin on Canada Day – July 1 – in Vancouver, with five dates currently scheduled through July 15 in Montreal.

Alice In Chains will be kicking off a North American tour on Thursday night (April 25) in Miami Beach, FL. more on this story




Robert Plant Guests on Patty Griffen's New Song and Video
(hennemusic) Robert Plant is featured on "Ohio," the new single and music video by his Band Of Joy mate Patty Griffin. The video has now gone online.

The song is the lead single from Griffin's forthcoming album, "American Kid," which is due May 7. The Led Zeppelin singer appears on three songs on the project.

Plant and Griffin struck up a relationship during their time together as members of the Band Of Joy; various media reports in recent years have surfaced as to the status of the couple, with Plant himself saying he was living with Patty in Austin, Texas. Watch the video here.




Aerosmith's Steven Tyler Lends His Voice To New Cartoon Movie
(Classic Rock) Aerosmith's Steven Tyler provides the voice of a character in new animated movie Epic, from the creators of Ice Age.

The Aerosmith frontman voices the character Nim Galuu (described as "a wise old man of the forest") in the movie.

Epic also features the voice talents of Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Chris O'Dowd and Beyoncé Knowles. Check out a preview and more details here.

Attack Attack! have announced that their "Back in Action Tour" will also be their farewell tour. Andrew Wetzel and Andrew Whiting broke the news to fans with the following Facebook posting:

"Well everyone, it's been a wild ride for Attack Attack, but I think it's about time Whiting and I take some time to write this note.

this chapter in our lives.

Brian May Previews New Song
(Classic Rock) Queen guitarist Brian May is poised to release a light-hearted single to continue his campaign against badger culling.

The track fuses 2003 web meme The Badger Song with elements of Queen's work on the Flash soundtrack, including a voiceover by Brian Blessed as Prince Vultan from the 1980 movie.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Rock New Theme Song For Pawn Stars
Lynyrd Skynyrd will be providing the new theme song for the History Channel's hit TV show "Pawn Stars" and will also be taking part in a special event to celebrate the season premiere.

The band's track "Winning Isn't Everything" will be used to open the show when it kicks off its seventh season on May 30th. The title line may seem a bit strange considering the premise of show but the line that follows the " Winning Isn't Everything" lyric is "It's the only thing." You can check out the song here.

The band is set to perform at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas for the 'Party Like the Pawn Stars' event this Friday which celebrates the new season of the show.

New Muse Video Sparks Controversy
(Radio.com) Muse inadvertently ignited a firestorm of controversy on Monday (April 22) with their new music video, "Panic Station." The clip features an image of the Japanese Rising Sun flag, which is commonly associated with that country's imperialistic history.

The surreal and colorful video shows Muse running around the city of Tokyo in wild outfits, interspersed with shots of the band performing their latest single in Tokyo's famous Robot Restaurant alongside animatronic dinosaurs and a purple fuzzy octopus.

The clip caused controversy with its original title shot, which depicted the Rising Sun flag coming up behind the city's skyline, causing many offended fans to comment on the flag's connection to Japan's imperialist past. In order to contextualize the argument, some compared the image to the Confederate "rebel" flag of the American South. See a screen shot of the image and the video here.





Paul McCartney Expands Out There Tour
Paul McCartney continues to expand his Out There tour plans for North America. This week the Beatles legend announced new shows in Canada for the trek.

McCartney has added three new Canadian shows for this summer which will include stops in two cities that he has never performed in before.

The new dates include his very first concert in Ottawa which will take place on July 7th at Scotiabank Place. He will also play his first show in Regina on August 14th at the Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field.

The third new date will take place on August 7th in Winnipeg. McCartney has not performed in that city since his 1993 New World Tour.

The previously announces stops on the tour continue to sell out. The trek will kick off with a sold out show on May 18th in Orlando FL. more on this story





Pantera Frontman's Unusual Take On AC/DC Classic
(Classic Rock) You won't have heard AC/DC lyrics delivered like this before – Pantera and Down frontman Phil Anselmo has put a new spin on the words to 1975 classic It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll).

The concept came from German magazine Visions, and focuses on how Bon Scott's words, when presented differently, draw out the dark side of life on the road.

The video is called Rock'n'Roll Manifesto – and by the end of the short journey, you'll be convinced when Anselmo repeats: "I tell you, folks, it's harder than it looks." Check it out here.






Billy Joel, John Mayer, Phoenix Jazz Fest Sets To Air on TV
Fans that are not able to attend this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will be able to watch many of the performances on AXS TV.

The cable and satellite network plans three days of continuous coverage from the festival. Their coverage will take place on May 3rd, 4th and 5th.

The coverage will include performances from Billy Joel, John Mayer, Phoenix, Widespread Panic, Gary Clark, Jr., Willie Nelson & Family, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Gipsy Kings, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Better Than Ezra, Laura Bell Bundy, Galactic, Marcia Ball, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Anders Osborne, Bonerama, Marc Broussard, and Cowboy Mouth and more.

Survivor Reunite With Original Singer
(Classic Rock) Survivor have reunited with original vocalist Dave Bickler, but his replacement Jimi Jamison is remaining with the band.

Guitarist Frankie Sullivan says it's a great way to make sure they can deliver material from right through their career, which started in 1977.

Bickler left in 1983 as a result of health problems, and was replaced by Jamison. He returned between 1993 and 1999. Jamison's second stint came afterwards, then he was replaced by Robin McAulay in 2006 before returning last year.

The band's biggest hit, "Eye Of The Tiger," was recorded with Bickler, while Jamison's debut album with them included the successful tracks "High On You," "I Can't Hold Back" and "The Search Is Over." The two singers shared the stage for the first time last week.






Anthrax's Scott Ian Puts NYC Vs Boston Rivalry Aside After Bombing
(Radio.com) Tragedy tends to bring out the best in people, and also breaks down barriers. Such was the case at the Worcester, Massachusetts, stop on the Metal Alliance Tour, featuring metal icons Anthrax and Exodus among others. They played the April 19th show just as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the now-charged Boston Marathon bombers, was taken into custody by Boston police following one of the most intense manhunts in American history.

Anthrax's Scott Ian is a native New Yorker and a huge Yankee fan, who often sports that team's logo on his clothes and even on his guitars. His fandom has also gotten him into trouble – he was actually arrested for allegedly trying to steal the on-deck circle from the Yankees' Florida training camp.

The New York Yankees/Boston Red Sox rivalry is one of the most well known in all of sports. But following the show, Ian tells Radio.com that those rivalries seemed insignificant when his band played Massachusetts.

"When I was onstage, someone threw a Boston Bruins hat, and I caught it at the microphone," he explained. "The kid was like, 'Put it on!' I was like, 'Do you know how hard it is for me to put on this hat?' People are pretty well aware that I'm from New York and I'm a New York fan. But this is a human thing, there's no boundaries anymore. I put the hat on, the place went nuts." More from Scott here.

Queen On Fire Again With DVD Reissue
Eagle Rock have set a May 21st released date for the reissue of Queen On Fire: Live at the Bowl, which they will be releasing as a double DVD set as well as in Digital Video format.

The concert that is featured on the release took place on June 5, 1982 at the Milton Keynes Bowl while Queen were on their Hot Space Tour.

The reissue will total 170 minutes and was restored from the original sound and footage. The first disc in the set features the entire performance which included "Somebody To Love," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Are The Champions," and two versions of "We Will Rock You".

Disc 2 will be loaded with bonus material including behind the scenes footage, interviews, a photo gallery, and will also boast additional performance clips that were filmed at Tokyo's Seibu Stadium (November 3, 1982) and Vienna's Stadthalle (May 12, 1982). more on this story






Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Says Lack Of Censorship Has Been Good
(Classic Rock) Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine believes the relative lack of censoring in music today means writers have to take care more over what they create.

"They used to control the things that young kids would get and just kind of protect people more," he says. "Nowadays it's such a different place – you can hear any kind of music. The songwriter has a responsibility to what they say to their fans and stuff.

"I've always been provocative in my lyrics, but I've never really tried to promote any kind of harm to anybody, or any kind of hatred towards anyone's belief system or another. It's always been about trying to instill some sense of self-worth, and to spur creative thinking." more.

New Songs From Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard Go Online
(Classic Rock) Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard has released two tracks from his upcoming solo album, Moonlander. Fans can hear the title song and I Need Something Different online.

It's his first work since 2001′s Bay Leaf, and will be launched on June 25 via Pearl Jam's own label, Monkeywrench Records.

Gossard tells Spin: "I like to write music – exploring with lyrics and figuring out how to make complete songs is fun."

He's gone through more than 60 ideas that he'd noted down since his last outing, and says one thing hasn't changed about his approach. "The things I was attracted to then are still the same things I'm attracted to now – oddball riffs that strike my ear as being different.

"But I think that I was focused much less on lyrics then. Now I'm fascinated by how a lyric can really impact a song." Check out the songs and read more here.






Aerosmith In The Studio For Get A Grip's 20th Anniversary

Animal Kingdom have premiered their new music video for their new single "Get Away With It" on their YouTube channel.

Texas Hippie Coalition's Big Dad Ritch Guests On Wikimetal
The latest episode of the Wikimetal podcast features an exclusive interview with Texas Hippie Coalition frontman Big Dad Ritch.

Ritch spoke to Wikimetal about the birth and history of the band, whose influences go from ZZ Top and Pantera to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

Speaking about his first coming to Brazil, two years ago, Ritch tells us that it was one of the few times he ever cried in his life:

"I'm an emotional guy, even being a big guy. I can tell you how many times I've cried in my whole life, and they're not a whole lot. I teared when my children were born, and when my father died. But the only time I shed a tear on stage was on that São Paulo show."

Isolated Atoms Visit Hollywood's Famed Riot House For New Video
(Classic Rock) West Midlands-based band Isolated Atoms have released a new music video for their new single, "Hold On" and Classic Rock are streaming it online.

The clip was shot in Los Angeles on top of the Riot House hotel on Sunset. The band say: "We stayed on the eighth floor, which we believe was where John Bonham rode his motorcycle – as referenced in your Led Zeppelin story in the current issue of Classic Rock."

California seems to agree with Isolated Atoms. An LA magazine put them on the cover (calling them "British sex rockers" and singer Grant Leon Ashman "a cross between Jim Morrison and Hannibal Lecter", which musta been nice), and comparisons with U2, The Cult and Depeche Mode are being banded about.

Guns N' Roses Announce Tour Dates
Guns N' Roses have expanded their North American tour plans with the addition of two headline tour dates that will take place in June.
Axl Rose and company have announced a June 1st concert at the Lonestar Amphitheater in Lubbock, Texas and a June 2nd date at The in Kansas City, Missouri.

The band had previous announced appearances at several music festivals this spring and summer including Rocklahoma, River City Rockfest and Governer's Ball.

Guns N' Roses also recently announced plans for the release of "Appetite for Democracy in 3D". The concert film was recorded during the "Appetite For Democracy" residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last Fall. Robert Plant Plans Summer Tour

The tour is set to kick off at the Palladium in Dallas, TX on June 20, with dates wrapping up July 27 in Brooklyn, NY's Prospect Park.

The band will be playing five festival dates, including Britt in Jacksonville, OR, High Sierra in Quincy, CA, Jambase in George, WA, Portland Blues in Portland, OR, and Forecastle in Louisville, KY.

Woodstock Icon Richie Havens Dead at 72
(Classic Rock) Folk singer and guitarist Richie Havens has died at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack, his family have confirmed.

He became a cultural icon in 1969 when he was the first artist to perform at the Woodstock festival, playing for nearly three hours because later acts failed to turn up.

Havens' first album was released in 1965 and he broke through with his third release, Mixed Bag, in 1967. He was noted for his heavy rhythmic style of playing guitar. Nobody Left To Crown, his last record, came out in 2008.

He'd been unwell since undergoing kidney surgery in 2010. More including video of his Woodstock performance.





Iron Maiden Planning New Album
(Classic Rock) Iron Maiden are planning to release their sixteenth studio album next year, according to Swedish website Talarforum.se.

At the end of an interview with frontman Bruce Dickinson they say: "In addition to upcoming tour plans the band to record a new album, which, if all goes as planned, is scheduled for release in 2014."

Some fans feared that 2010′s The Final Frontier would prove to be their last studio release, because many years previously Steve Harris had said Maiden would make 15 albums then stop. The bassist later explained things had changed.

3 Doors Down Cancel Tour Dates Following Fatal Crash Arrest
3 Doors Down have canceled their North American tour dates for this spring after their bassplayer Todd Harrell was arrested late last week on vehicular homicide and drug charges after he was involved in a fatal crash in Nashville, Tn.

As we reported on Monday, Harrell's Cadillac clipped a Ford pickup truck at a high rate of speed and the driver of the truck, 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders, was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The band issued the following statement on Monday about the canceled dates: "Out of respect to Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr., and his family, 3 Doors Down has cancelled the band's four scheduled U.S. April / May appearances. They will resume touring May 31 in Moscow, and return to the U.S. for scheduled dates in July." Read the Monday's report for more details about the arrest.




Divinyls Singer Chrissy Amphlett Dead at 53
The Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett died at her New York City home on Sunday after a battle with breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. She was 53.

The band was best known in the U.S. for their 1991 Top 10 hit "I Touch Myself." The group had four Top 10 albums in Australia, according to Gibson.

Amphlett's husband and Divinyls drummer Charlie Drayton broke the sad news to fans, "Our beloved Chrissy peacefully passed this afternoon.

"Christine Joy Amphlett succumbed to the effects of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis, diseases she vigorously fought with exceptional bravery and dignity. She passed gently, in her sleep, surrounded by close friends and family, including husband of fourteen years, musician Charley Drayton; her sister, Leigh; nephew, Matt; and cousin Patricia Amphlett ('Little Pattie').

"Chrissy's light burns so very brightly. Hers was a life of passion and creativity; she always lived it to the fullest. With her force of character and vocal strength she paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women.

"Best remembered as the lead singer of the ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Divinyls; last month she was named one of Australia's top ten singers of all time. Chrissy expressed hope that her worldwide hit 'I Touch Myself' would be utilized to remind all women to perform annual breast examinations.

"Chrissy was a true pioneer and a treasure to all whose lives her music and spirit touched."




Rolling Stones Discuss Preparations For Upcoming Tour
(hennemusic) With just over a week away from opening night in Los Angeles, The Rolling Stones are talking about their "50 & Counting" tour in a new video interview with Radio.com.

"I thought that we should continue doing this when the 50th anniversary came up," admits Mick Jagger of the plans to schedule the 2013 shows. "I kept hedging when people asked me, but I knew, the year before."

"Personally, I start preparing about two months before the tour starts," he continued. "So I have to up my fitness level, I have to start singing every day, doing practices and a bit of dancing. I practice in front of mirrors if I can, in a dance studio."

"The process we go through for a tour is 6 weeks of rehearsal," says drummer Charlie Watts, "to have twice as many numbers ready to play and to be twice as fit as you need to be for 2 hours [of live performance]." more on this story




Alice In Chains Lead Uproar Festival Lineup
Alice In Chains have been named as the headliner for this year's installment of the Uproar Festival which will be hitting the road this summer.

The traveling music festival will also feature sets from Jane's Addiction, Coheed and Cambria, Circa Survive, Walking Papers (featuring Duff McKagan), Middle Class Rut, New Politics, Danko Jones, Chuck Shaffer Picture Show as well as local "battle of the band" contest winners.

The tour is set to kick off on August 9th at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA and will conclude on September 15th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, Ca.

Bob Dylan will be hitting road in late June to launch his 26-date "AmericanaramA Festival of Music" summer tour of North America.

The rock legend will be supported by Wilco and another band on the trek and select dates will also include Richard Thompson Electric Trio and Ryan Bingham.

The tour is set to kick off on June 26th at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida, and will conclude on August 4th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Cal. more on this story




Allman Brothers Announce Shows With Steve Winwood and Grace Potter

On the heels of the group's second annual Peach Festival (Aug 16/17), the trek will begin with two "evening with" nights in Chicago on August 20 & 21, followed by ten (10) amphitheater shows – six (6) with Winwood and four (4) with Potter.

Muse Self Produce New Panic Station Video
(Radio.com) Muse's long awaited "Panic Station" video is here and likely to shock your senses. Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenhome slid into fluorescent tights and stepped right into what looks like a video game.

Shot in Tokyo, Japan, the video takes a page right out of a modern children's TV show with colorful costumes, alien creatures, and a keyboard-player-attacking octopus. And what music video would be complete without a T-Rex? and unlike most high-profile music videos, Muse did not contract outside help. The band was responsible for the entirety of the process; writing, production, direction and editing was all handled in-house.

"Panic Station" is one of only three studio-recorded songs with swearing in it ("Crying Shame" and "Hidden track"). It also marks the first time Matt has sworn on an album track. more on this story




Van Halen Make Live Return
(hennemusic) Van Halen played their first show of 2013 on Saturday as headliners at Sydney, Australia's inaugural Stone Music Festival. It was the band's very first Australian concert with frontman David Lee Roth.

Van Halen's 20-song, 90-minute setlist was identical to the template of their 2012 shows, opening with "Unchained" and closing with their only #1 single, "Jump."

In what is possibly a career first, the band wore matching outfits: white shirts with black pants and black vests. "What an amazing gig, Sydney!!" tweeted bassist Wolfgang Van Halen after the show. Black Star Riders Plan Fall Tour
(hennemusic) Black Star Riders, the new band formed from the final Thin Lizzy lineup, have announced plans to launch a fall tour of the UK.

The tour will kick off on November 22 Bournemouth, England and is set to conclude on December 14th at the Academy in Dublin, Ireland.

Motley Crue Kick Off Tour With 17-Song Set
(hennemusic) Motley Crue kicked off what they have billed as their most expansive Canadian tour ever on Saturday in Penticton, BC.

The 17-song set opened with "Saints Of Los Angeles," before firing up four classics in a row: "Wild Side," "Shout At The Devil," "Piece Of Your Action" and "Same 'Ol Situation (S.O.S.)."

Bassist Nikki Sixx was revved up for the show, posting, "The band is all rehearsed up and we added a bunch of old school songs to the set. This is the biggest lighting rig we have ever used. We brought in the newest technology and we are really looking forward to opening night. We're feeling strong."

Before the show, Sixx added, "We just killed a version of LOUDER THAN HELL at sound check...I wonder if we should play it live tonight?" Check out video here.




Machine Head Were 'Moved To Tears' Over Audition Video
(Classic Rock) Machine Head have closed public auditions for a new bassist, and the band admit they've been blown away by the quality of applications. But one man reduced some of Robb Flynn's men to tears by submitting a video of him playing the hardest song on the list – with just one hand.

In a statement they say: "A lot of hard work and effort went into each and every submission, with many people bravely making them public for the whole world to see and judge. It took a lot of brass to do that – we earned an even greater respect for our fans in doing so.

"There are some incredible musicians out there, fantastic players who unfortunately did not make an attempt to sing, and thus were ineligible, but you should absolutely keep at it! In fact, in the course of these submissions, it looks like many people have earned a lot of fans in doing so. Congrats!"

Machine Head single out fan Frank Memolo for a special mention: "Many of the men and women who sent in YouTube clips performing, did so with the utmost passion and intensity. But of all the submissions, this man deserves a special mention. He learned and played not only the hardest song of the submission, This Is The End, but played it with only one hand. Rush's Neil Peart 'Totally Betrayed' By Biased Article
(Classic Rock) Rush drummer Neil Peart still feels "totally betrayed" by a journalist who interviewed him in the 1970s and portrayed him as a borderline fascist in a subsequent article.

During a conversation with the NME in 1977, Peart was asked about his reasons for basing Rush's song 2112 on the work of libertarian philosopher Ayn Rand.

"I recall that NME interview very well because the conversation was great," Peart recalls in an interview in the forthcoming new edition of Classic Rock. "And we all felt totally betrayed after, because we had a lovely time with the guy. I remember him being so courteous. It was so amicable. As far as I was concerned, we were just having an intellectual conversation. But these things are wide open to misinterpretation, and that was a classic case."

Peart, who has since distanced himself from Rand's writings, added: "I know where I fall politically. And I define it better now: I'm a libertarian, but a bleeding-heart libertarian." more on this story




Brad Wilk and Rick Rubin Discuss New Black Sabbath Album
(Classic Rock) Black Sabbath studio drummer Brad Wilk has discussed his experience of recording new album 13 with Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler.

In a short video detailing how they operated during sessions the Rage Against The Machine drummer says: "I love their sense of humour. None of them take themselves too seriously." And he adds: "The guys are the best at what they do – it's inspiriting to be part of that."

In one scene Wilk is seen discussing one of the band's previous albums, of which bassist Geezer Butler tells him: "We spent more on the cocaine than we did on the studio."

Producer Rick Rubin says of the sessions: "At first there was a little bit of trepidation because they hadn't worked together in 33 years. Once they started making music they felt like the band again." more on this story




Pete Way Doesn't Have A Burning Desire To Return To UFO
(Classic Rock) No matter how much UFO fans might crave his return, bass player Pete Way doesn't expect to rejoin the band any time soon.

"It's not a priority for me at the minute," Way says in an interview in the forthcoming new issue of Classic Rock. "I don't have a burning desire to do it. Have I been asked? Yes, I've been asked but I wasn't in a place to be able to do it when I was asked. I wish them all the best, I do, honestly."

Way, who founded UFO in 1969 with vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer Andy Parker and guitarist Mick Bolton, has spent several periods in and out of the band.

Plagued by health problems, Way was replaced on tour as recently as 2011 by Barry Sparks [Dokken, Ted Nugent, Yngwie Malmsteen etc]. UFO have also utilized the four-string touring services of Rob de Luca [Spread Eagle, Sebastian Bach, Of Earth). more on this story




Mott The Hoople Plan Fall Tour
(Classic Rock) Mott The Hoople will be hitting the road this fall when they launch a five date tour of the UK in November.

Ian Hunter, Verden Allen, Mick Ralphs and Overend Watts will be joined by Martin Chambers of The Pretenders in place of Dale 'Buffin' Griffin, who's too ill to appear.

It's the band's first shows since a set of reunion appearances in London in 2009. It was the first time the original lineup had gathered for 35 years, and as a result, two planned appearances at the Hammersmith Apollo were extended to five, plus a warm-up show in Wales and a charity concert in Scotland. more on this story





B.B. King, Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo For Free Blues Fest
B.B. King has been named the headliner of this summer's Lowdown Hudson Blues Festival and admission to the event will be free.

The Lowdown Hudson Blues Festival will take place at the outdoor plaza at Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan on July 10th and 11th.

King will headline the first night of the festival which will also feature a set from The James Hunter Six. The second night will feature sets from Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo.

"If the first two years proved anything, it's that New York City loves blues music," said Debra Simon, Vice President and Artistic Director of Arts Brookfield. "This festival allows people to check out living legends alongside extraordinarily talented artists set against the beautiful waterfront setting."





Sublime with Rome Tap Pennywise for Summer Tour
Sublime with Rome will be hitting the road this summer for a North American tour that will include headline dates and music festival performances.

The headline tour is set to feature support for Pennywise on most of the dates. On select dates they will be joined by the Descendents and Iration.

Sublime with Rome will also be joining 311's Unity Tour for three stops; two in Florida and one in California.

Classic Captain Beyond Concert Set For Release
Purple Pyramid Records have set a May 21st release date for 70s supergroup Captain Beyond's 'Live in Texas October 6, 1973.'

The vintage live recording will be released on both CD and as a Double-LP and will feature liner notes by rock historian Dave Thompson.

"This was an exciting night of music! Captain Beyond at the University of Texas in Arlington... All the best..." says Captain Beyond drummer Bobby Caldwell.

Michael Monroe Sets Album Release and Premieres New Video
Former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe has set an August 26th digital release date for his new studio album, 'Horns And Halos' and has released the first video from the effort.

The video is for the first single 'Ballad Of The Lower East Side'. Michael had this to say about the song, "'Ballad Of The Lower East Side' is about New York, and especially that particular area – what it was way back in the days when I lived there; it shows how times have changed and how it is today. New York has always been an important city for me since I lived there for 10 years, and two members of our band still live there. It's the City of all Cities!"

Monroe recorded the album with bassist Sami Yaffa (ex-Hanoi Rocks/New York Dolls), guitarist Steve Conte (ex-New York Dolls/Company Of Wolves), guitarist Dregen (Backyard Babies, formerly of Hellacopters fame) and drummer Karl 'Rockfist' Rosqvist (ex-Chelsea Smiles/Danzig). It was around 2012 in the Hollywood area while I was going through a mass amount of personal issues that someone gave me a bag of over a hundred Morphine pills. I have always had an addictive personality and have also had drug issues throughout my past; so pills have always been a weakness for me. This pill addiction eased my mental disorders and also helped towards temporarily creating a fake felicitous persona.

Every day I started popping these pills about 3 or 4 times a day to put myself in a crippled state of mind. I was completely zombified towards reality and showing any bit of emotion, although that wasn't anything new for me. The Morphine pills were extremely damaging towards my nervous system… but during this reckless time, nothing else mattered except for emotionless sex, alcohol, and a pill to shelter my misery.

Heaven Shall Burn have released a new music video for the song "Hunters Will Be Hunted," which comes off their forthcoming studio album.

The video was produced and directed by Film-M and Philipp Hirsch, who were responsible for Heaven Shall Burn's previous videos for "Endzeit" and "Black Tears."

Guitarist Maik Weichert had this to say about the new video, "We are really proud that we could win Denise Rombouts over for the main female role.
