Journey React To Death of Sopranos Star James Gandolfini
Journey have paid tribute to James Gandolfini, best known for the role of mafia boss Tony Soprano in the hit HBO series "The Sopranos," who died in Italy on Wednesday of a suspected heart attack. He was 51.
The famed final scene in "The Sopranos" featured Journey's classic song "Don't Stop Believing" and the band issued a statement about Gandolfini death on Wednesday.

Here is what they had to say, "It's truly an honor to have been able to share one of the greatest moments ever in TV history with James Gandolfini. He was an amazing actor - taken way too young – and he'll be missed. Our condolences go out to his family."

HBO and James managers also issued statements. HBO said, "We're all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family. He was special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect. He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and his humility. Our hearts go out to his wife and children during this terrible time. He will be deeply missed by all of us."

Gandolfini managers Mark Armstrong and Nancy Sanders issued this statement, "It is with immense sorrow that we report our client James Gandolfini passed away today while on holiday in Rome, Italy. Our hearts are shattered and we will miss him deeply. He and his family were part of our family for many years and we are all grieving."

Rare Eddie Van Halen and Allan Holdsworth Performance Goes Online
A new set of rare videos from a performance featuring Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen and Allan Holdsworth have been posted online by Chris Gossett.

Gossett says that these new videos are very rare and come from a show that Van Halen and Holdsworth performed on April 23rd, 1982. He says that while two pieces from the show have been posted on YouTube, there were actually six pieces recorded and he has posted four of the six on his site.

He has broken the posting up into six parts, of which he has posted four in total so far. One video features a 12 minute jam which you can watch here. The next two videos feature what Gossett says is a crafted song where Van Halen got together with Allan Holdsworth's bass player, Jeff Berlin, on 4/22/82, just one day prior to the show to compose the riffs. Black Sabbath Score Their First No. 1 Album
Black Sabbath's brand new studio album, "13," has earned the legendary veteran heavy metal band the very first U.S. No. 1 album of their 45-year career.

"13" made a powerful first week impression after it sold more than 155,000 copies in its first week, which was 100,000 more copies sold than the next best selling album of the week, Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories."

The members of Black Sabbath issued the following statement about their historic achievement: "The news is absolutely amazing--we couldn't have imagined this would happen," says guitarist Tony Iommi. "We have the greatest fans."

"There have been so many amazing highlights in our long career," says singer Ozzy Osbourne. "To finally have our first #1 album in the U.S. is another incredible milestone for Black Sabbath. Thank you to all of our fans for their support and loyalty."

Bassist Geezer Butler says, "I'm absolutely stunned. Thank you all world wide for being the best, and most patient, fans ever."

The album made a big impression across the globe where it also topped the charts in the U.K., Denmark, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland and made top five debuts in Australia (#4), Austria (#2), Belgium (#5), and Ireland (#5).

North American fans will be able to help the band celebrate this summer when the group launches their summer tour on July 25 in Houston, TX. more on this story





Travis Return From Hiatus With New Album and Tour
Travis have officially ended their five year long hiatus and regrouped to record their new studio album, "Where You Stand," which will be released on August 20th.

Fans will not have to wait until August to get a taste of what the new album will sound like as the band is giving fans an advance listed to the album's title track here.

"Where You Stand" was produced by Michael Ilbert who recorded the album on the same sound desk that was used on both "The Man Who" and Radiohead's "Ok Computer."

The album was written and recorded across London, Norway, New York and Berlin's legendary Hansa Studios and the band had the following to say about the end of their hiatus and return to making music, "When you're in a band, you're in a band forever - its a life thing," reasons lead singer Fran Healy. "For me it's family."

"It's a lovely life," reflects bassist Dougie Payne, "but when you do it relentlessly, there's a point when it snaps you. We decided to take a break to spend time with our families. You stay away as long as it takes" he says of the well-judged fallow period "so you feel that hunger and desire to get back to it same as you did at the start."

The band will also be making their live return this summer and have announced the initial dates from the globe spanning trek that will kick off in July and include performances at T In The Park and the V Festival (UK), plus shows across Europe, Russia and a North American headlining tour that begins September 19th in Philadelphia more on this story




Ray Manzarek's Final Album Released
The final studio album recorded by the late Doors legend Ray Manzarek has been released. The album is entitled 'Twisted Tales' and was recorded by Ray Manzarek and Roy Rogers.

"In our last meeting together before his passing, Ray and I were both very excited about the upcoming release of 'Twisted Tales'. We signed off on the artwork and agreed that it should be released sooner than later," says Roy Rogers.

"So, honoring that decision, I have proceeded with the release. We both were proud of this recording and hope that people enjoy it. This recording is dedicated to Ray's memory."

Glass Onyon sent over these details about the album: Ray Manzarek and Roy Rogers have received no shortage of kudos since they first recorded together five years ago. Ray Manzarek's signature keyboard sound was a cornerstone of The Doors - one of the most iconic rock bands of the 60's. An inductee into the R&R Hall of Fame - he certainly needs no introduction. Sammy Hagar Added To Toby Keith's Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert
Toby Keith's upcoming Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert has just gotten even more star power with the announcement that Sammy Hagar will be joining the all-star lineup.

The charity concert will be taking place on July 6 in Norman, Oklahoma in the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at the University of Oklahoma and will feature the former Van Halen and current Chickenfoot frontman as well as Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Ronnie Dunn, Mel Tillis and John Anderson.

"When Toby asked me to come on board, I immediately said yes!" says Hagar. "He's put together a hell of a concert lineup to help raise funds for the brave and resilient people of Oklahoma. My job is going to be to help them take their minds off their problems and have some much-needed, good old-fashioned fun."

"I grew up in Moore, I live in Norman and I've got lots of family and friends who were directly affected," Toby Keith said in a press statement. "I know these folks and they're resilient, but we're going to keep helping them any way we can. Rob Zombie Plans Great American Nightmare Event For Halloween
(Gibson) Halloween is over four months away, but Rob Zombie is ready for it. The horror film guru and singer has just dropped the news that he'll host a new event this Halloween that will let fans walk through several haunted house attractions based on his popular horror movies.

The event, called "The Great American Nightmare," will offer three haunted houses: "Lords of Salem Total Black Out," "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto 3D" and "Haunt of 1,000 Corpses." The houses feature 3D effects and animatronics for an extra creepy twist.

"This is...the ultimate badass Halloween experience!" Zombie said in an official statement. "No one will walk away disappointed. I am thrilled to bring The Great American Nightmare to California and begin a reign of bloody terror!"

On top of the haunted attractions, the Great American Nightmare will offer 15 evenings of creepy concerts arranged by Zombie, including performances by the Used, Andrew W.K., Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish and more. more on this story






Arctic Monkeys Streaming New Song Online
(Radio.com) After premiering the song in concert last month, British rockers the Arctic Monkeys have released the studio version of their new single, "Do I Wanna Know?"

The band's sound continues to evolve beyond the snappy and upbeat kick of early singles like "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor," with the new single riding on a slow-burning big-beat stomp, falsetto backing vocals and a massive sing-along chorus.

According to drummer Matt Helders, the band will release a new album this year, their first full-length since 2011′s Suck it and See. The Arctic Monkeys only have one U.S. date on their tour itinerary this summer, with the band scheduled to play the Music Midtown 2013 festival in Atlanta, Ga., over the weekend of September 20-21 alongside such acts as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons, 2 Chainz and Journey. Homme Explains Elton John and Queens Of The Stone Age Collaboration
(Gibson) Queens Of The Stone Age has a very unexpected collaboration on their new album ...Like Clockwork. The band teamed up with piano rock legend Elton John on the song "Fairweather Friends." In an interview with BBC 5 Live Josh Homme talked about working with Elton:

"He's a workaholic. He's a music fan who's constantly searching for new music to get involved with. He's signing acts from YouTube, it's really intense. He's always playing 200 plus shows a year and he's an amazing piano player."

Speaking about the track "Fairweather Friends," Homme said: "He called me on the phone and it took me a minute to work out if I was being punked or not. He came in and we tracked a rock song live together, which was a wonderful experience.

"That is what collaboration is all about, learning something from someone else and about someone else and maybe reminding them of something they enjoy too. To experience that with Elton was wonderful. There are piano-based, mellower songs on our record but that's not really the point. It's about strange chemistry and doing what you're not supposed to do."

Queens Of The Stone Age are touring Europe during June and July, before heading Stateside for shows throughout August and September, starting with an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival on August 2. more on this story






Queensryche Rift Goes Back A Decade
(Classic Rock) Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield says the rift between the band and fired frontman Geoff Tate go back ten years. They're poised to release their self-titled album with new singer Todd La Torre, and streamed the full record online yesterday.

Tate was sacked in 2012 following a series of disagreements – but Rockenfield says the process leading up to the band's decision started a decade ago.

"It's been, like, ten years – things were starting to come uncomfortable," He tells Ghost Cult. "It was a slow process, but over time if became apparent that Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and I were drifting apart from Geoff, especially when it came down to the music and the general direction of Queensryche."

Rockenfield says there's a good reason they didn't take action sooner.




Killers Team Up With M83
(Radio.com) In a surprise announcement, drummer Ronnie Vannucci has revealed that the Killers have collaborated with M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez on a new song.

"Not just demos. Real recordings," Vannucci told NME about the studio collaboration. "I mean, you never know what it's gonna be, I guess. But we have our engineer, and we're working with a couple of surprise guests, in the producer capacity. Some of it is sounding really cool.

"We can be guilty of making things so ornate, and sometimes that's a bad thing. So I always have conversations with Brandon [Flowers, Killers frontman] about working from a smaller palate, simplifying things. If these new tracks develop a theme, a common thread, then that could be the start of something."

The Killers are currently on tour in Europe, with a string of U.S. dates this summer including an appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago (August 3) and LouFest in St. Louis (Sept. 8). The band is still supporting their most recent album, Battle Born, which came out in September of last year. more on this story




Everyone Dies In Utah Replace Justin Yost
Everyone Dies In Utah frontman and bassist Justin Yost has left the group and started a new band and has been replaced by former Us, From Outside singer Michael Crimlis.

Crimlis had this to say about his new gig, "I used to be the vocalist for another band on Tragic Hero, so I've been labelmates with the EDIU dudes for a while and I was always a big fan of their style," he said. "When I was offered the position to be their new vocalist it was pretty much a no brainer."

The rest of Everyone Dies In Utah had this to say about Crimlis, "We look forward to the opportunity to share the adventure with such a talented musician!"

Everyone Dies In Utah did not address Justin's departure but assured fans that they will still be performing on the upcoming Scream the Prayer tour.

Justin Yost posted a series of tweets following the announcement and says that he is "coming out with a solo record this summer and a new song with my new band this weekend. ;)"

A few hours later he said, "Boy, oh boy, do we have some awesome stuff for you guys soon. Things no one does anymore. #backtotheroots #appreciatefans #newband "

He also had a message for fans and friends, "Through all this band craziness I just wanted to say thanks to all the friends/fans who are still supporting me. Real love goes far. #thanks"




Sunset Strip Music Festival Lineup Expanded
Awolnation, Wale, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Logic, Slick Rick/Doug E. Fresh, Asher Roth, Finch and Street Drum Corps will be joining headliners Linkin Park as the outdoors performances at this year's Sunset Strip Music Festival.

The sixth annual festival will be taking place in West Hollywood at the Sunset Strip's famed music venues on August 1-3 and will culminate on Saturday, August 3 with a 3-11 PM street festival.

In addition to the two outdoor stages on The Sunset Strip, venues inside the street festival closure – including The Roxy, Whisky A Go-Go and a special outdoor Viper Room stage -- will feature full lineups throughout the day and into the night, including performances by Warren G and Bizarre Ride featuring Fatlip & Slimkid3 at The Roxy and Orgy at the Whisky. more on this story




Don Felder Describes The Difficult Road to Forever
Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder describes in a new interview with antiMusic's Morley Seaver a tragedy that occurred as he was preparing to record his latest solo album, "Road To Forever," as well as the story behind the title track and other songs on the album. Here is that portion of the interview:

There was a record producer called Greg Ladanyi, a really famous guy. He's produced tons of great records that I loved and admired and I worked with Greg on several other projects along the way. He was originally going to be the producer on this record. He and I had spent months playing golf and having lunch and listening to song ideas and deciding where we would record and who the players would be. And just kind of putting out the roadmap in advance of how we were going to go about making this record, song selection and all that other stuff.

Then about a week before we were scheduled to actually come into the studio, Greg got on a plane and flew to Greece to see one of his Greek Madonna artists, who isn't really known in the states but is huge in Greece. And he had an unfortunate accident where he fell off the back of this really huge stadium stage and passed away. So I was kind of left with this roadmap that Greg had laid out for me and really saddened by his not being able to be part of this record. But he had given me the plan to do it.

So myself and one of the guys that I had been introduced to by Greg, Robin DiMaggio, decided we would pick this up, go into the studio, record three or four songs and kind of see how they turn out. See how we'd do. One of the songs that I wanted to do was a song called "Road to Forever", which I started writing as a really kind of acoustic guitar song when my father passed away. My father never really got to see and enjoy the celebration of my success. He passed away before I really went anywhere with the Eagles. I was in the band but we were just starting to tour and stuff.

So I wanted to record that song and we put together that group of people that Greg had talked about doing on that song. I wanted to make it tougher so I rewrote some of the song and took it in from a pretty acoustic song to this harder rock song. Brought in Steve Lukather and David Paich…a whole bunch of guys to play on it that we had talked about. And at the very end of the record I created this affect that sounds like what I would imagine the pool of souls sounding like. You stick your head up into heaven, you could hear the millions an millions of souls that's gone before us, just a swarming sound and you couldn't really understand what they were saying but you would hear all these millions of voices.

We simulated that in the studio by having a bunch of people speaking and saying prayers and saying stuff, women and all sorts of kids and everything to create that. And at the very end of that pool of souls, on the "Road to Forever" song, I found this thing online of Greg at a conference for recording engineers and producer. And he was speaking about the difference between digital recording and analog recording and he said at the very end of his speech, "and that's the difference between the two worlds." So I took Greg's voice and put it in the very end of the pool of souls. So as it fades down you can hear Greg say, "And that's the difference between the worlds." So Greg ended up on the record.

That song was kind of done in his honor and my father's honor, but it's the same pathway for us all, if you know what I mean. So kind of the theme of the record was, you may be living through all of these experiences, as fun and uplifting and tragic as they may be, and you may be living your life in the fast lane but we're all on the road to forever. So that kind of was the underlying theme of the record. And that's why I chose that title to be on the record.

All the other things are other experiences that I've gone through that were quite tragic. Like the separation and divorce from my wife produced the song "Fall from The Grace of Love". Living through those three or four years of really desperate bad economy, I wrote the song "Money", where I saw single moms who couldn't feed their kids and thieves on Wall Street just ripping off everybody. And Uncle Sam is raising taxes and guys working as hard as they could to just earn enough money to get by and how difficult that was. So I wrote songs about life experiences that I either observed or living through, and said that was part of the road to forever. Read the full interview here.

Mustaine was on the show to promote the band's new album, "Super Collider," which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 last week with opening sales of 29,000 copies. Listen to the replay here.

Metallica Release Orion Fest Day 2 Recap Video
(hennemusic) Metallica are sharing more footage from their recent Orion Music + More festival from Belle Isle in Detroit, MI with the release of a recap of day two of the festival.

A recap of day 2 (Sunday, June 9) features the pre-show meet-and-greet, "I Disappear" in the tuning room, and "Carpe Diem Baby" and "The Day That Never Comes" from the show.

Orion 2013 marks only the second time that "Carpe Diem Baby" had been performed live, and just the second time that "The Day That Never Comes" had been played over the past two and a half years.

The June 8/9 weekend event featured more than 30 bands across five live music stages plus a variety of activities and on-site events; the Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined the first night and Metallica closed out the festival on Sunday evening. Check out the recap here.





Singled Out: The Custodian's Necessary Wasted Time
Today Richard Thomson from U.K. prog rockers The Custodian tells us about the title track from their brand new debut album, "Necessary Wasted Time". Here is the story:

So this song I think is the most important song lyrically for me on the album, as it sums up the entire writing process. Looking back on this now, the basic meaning of the title is a rather childish observation of "wanting to be able to do what you want to do all the time instead of having responsibilities".

During the initial creation of the music that appears on the album, I was working a really high stress job for a pay that didn't nearly match the pure anguish I was having to deal with on a daily basis. I would start real early and get back real late, so as soon as id had a very modest gym session to de-stress and de-fat, I would have about 2 hours left in the evening to eat and hopefully, write some music. Or do anything productive at all for that matter. I saw my job obviously, as utterly necessary for my continued survival but still got mad at it for cutting into my "me" quite time so severely. This album was all that mattered and I got incredibly frustrated when I wasn't able to contribute to it.

At one point it became pretty awful and it seemed that I had permanently cut all fun from my life. Every weekend, evening and small morsel of free time was consumed with the writing process. In all honesty it started to become a little obsessive. I barely saw my housemate and tended to be moody and snappy when I did bump into him which I'm sure he appreciated greatly (sorry Sam). I never saw my friends and constantly forgot to call any of my family members back when they felt like having a chat with their distant, surly butthole of a son. Oh yeah and my girlfriend left me too which was entirely expected. (get out your tiny violins). In hindsight I should of left her first and retained some pride. Strangely, the songwriting process became easier after that. Id hate to subscribe to the cliché that being in a strangely (for me anyway) emotional funk can lead to creativity but hey, it worked for me.

So I guess that's about it. The entire album was written over about a year's period in a tiny bedroom in Warwickshire. The process was solitary and a bit isolating but social skills CAN be re-learnt with no huge conscious effort it turns out. The album is being released professionally by Laser's Edge and I couldn't be happier with the result. Its just a shame it took 5 years from the completion of the material for it to appear on the store shelves. I guess I just had a lot of necessary time to waste before then!

Chimaira Release 'No Mercy' Video
Chimaira have premiered a new music video for their latest single "No Mercy," which is featured on their forthcoming studio album "Crown of Phantoms."

Frontman Mark Hunter had these details about the new video, "We are pumped to present the first official video for our new album 'Crown of Phantoms.' Directed by Cleveland native Patrick Finegan, 'No Mercy' is a ferocious, twisted, cerebral ride through hell and back. Enjoy the trip!"

The Boxer Rebellion Rock Leno
The Boxer Rebellion were the special musical guests on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno last Friday night and video of their appearance has been posted online.

The UK band made their American late-night television return by performing their song, "Diamonds," which is the first single off their recently released full-length album 'Promises.'

The Boxer Rebellion is currently on a run of North America that includes a headlining show at Webster Hall in New York City tonight, June 20 and a final show at Sinclair in Boston, MA on Saturday, June 22. Watch the Leno performance here.





King Khan & The Shrines Streaming New Song Online
(Classic Rock) King Khan & The Shrines have unveiled the first track, "Born To Die," from their upcoming album "Idle No More," which is set for release on September 3 via Merge Records.

Six years since the release of KK&TS' last album What Is!?, Idle No More is full of sweat-drenched, ass-shaking, psyched-out numbers, complete with rip-roaring horn lines, southern-fried guitar riffs and lysergic melodies.

Or, as Classic Rock Ed in Chief Scott Rowley comments: "Pretty good, totally mad garage rock. They played the Austin Psych Fest dressed as Egyptian kings from what I could tell."

Mustaine and Newsted Plan Metallica Jam On Gigantour
Over the past month Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and Jason Newsted have both hinted in interviews that they may team up on the upcoming Gigantour and jam a song together from their previous band Metallica and now Mustaine appears to confirm that they will be doing it.
The idea first appeared in an interview SkullsnBones.com conducted with Newsted where he said, "There is a chance that Mustaine and I will bust out some old Metallica that he was a part of. it has been talked about. I'm willing to throw down Phantom Lord – actually, whatever he calls out, I'm gonna throw down."

A short time later Mustaine told Grammy.com, "There's a really cool new relationship between the two of us. I saw he said something about us playing a song together and I thought, 'Wow, that's pretty interesting. It's doable, and I think it would be fun.'"

It now appears that Mustaine wants to make it a reality as he tweeted the following question to fans last week, "If I play a song I wrote in @Metallica w/@JasonCNewsted, which should it be? Ride, Metal Militia, Phantom, Jump, Khutulu, or Four Horsemen?"




Ozzy Osbourne Can't Remember The 90s
(hennemusic) In a recent interview to promote the new Black Sabbath album, "13," frontman Ozzy Osbourne says he was in such a booze and drug-fueled haze through the 90s that he can't even remember the decade.

"The best thing is that we are still f**king all alive to be in a band," Ozzy tells news agency Reuters. "I don't know about the rest of the guys, [but] I certainly had a good go at trying to kill myself with the alcohol and booze for all the years. I kind of missed the '90s, you know? I must have been in a cocaine haze, because I can't remember the '90s at all."

"We've all come out the other side, the other end," Ozzy continued. "It is good to be back sober and clean [even though I have had] a hiccup now and again along the way. I don't get up and the first thing I say is that I will have a shot of brandy. I don't do that or smoke cigarettes anymore. We are alive and it is a lot more fun being sober and enjoying your fellow workers that you are working with." more on this story





Metallica's Full Kill 'Em All Set Goes Online
(hennemusic) Video has surfaced of Metallica's full surprise afternoon set at the Orion Music + More festival on Saturday, June 8, which saw the group perform their 1983 album, "Kill 'Em All," in its entirety.

James Hetfield appeared on stage to introduce a mystery band on the Orion bill named Dehaan; the guitarist was then joined by the other members of Metallica and the group blazed through their full debut album.

Metallica fans will recognize the band name Dehaan was inspired by the band's association with actor Dane DeHaan, who plays a lead role in the group's upcoming 3D concert film, "Through The Never," due for release in September. Check out the video here.




Aerosmith and Foreigner Duos Honored
(Gibson) Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry as well as Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner were inducted to the Songwriters Hall Of Fame on June 13th in New York City at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Tyler commented on the honor saying: "I love that Joe and I are getting inducted tonight because we put our nose to the grindstone. We can't get harmony if everybody is singing the same note."

Perry added, "It means that people are listening to what we're doing. Like Steven said, we're always under the hood working, or we're on the road, whatever. That's what the band is, it's work, and we're doing it."

Queensryche Already Thinking Ahead To Their Next Album
(Gibson) The Todd La Torre-fronted version of Queensryche have not yet released their first album with the new line-up but they're already talking about where they'd like the follow-up to go.

With the band's self-titled album due on June 25, La Torre says he'd like to see the next album get heavier than its predecessor, and to explore longer song structures.

Speaking to London Rocks, La Torre said, "I wouldn't mind the next record kind of letting the music breathe a little bit more in the sense of… Today, people really want you to be into the meat of the song in a relatively short period of time. I think if we can write a long song in a very creative way, then that would be something that I'm looking forward to. A song like 'Roads To Madness' — that's a ten-minute song," adding "So we're just gonna try to outdo his record on the next one and see what we could come up with."

As for the impending court decision on the future of the Queensryche name, La Torre is confident he knows where it will go. "I feel very confident, everyone on our side feels very confident that Michael [Wilton] and Scott [Rockenfield] and Eddie [Jackson] will be awarded the name. And obviously, it'll boil down to whatever kind of corporate contracts are established and put in place and that kind of a thing.

"I'm sure there will have to be some type of financial compensation for whichever side gets it. But these guys were the majority, they were the songwriters." more on this story






Paramore To Rock Teen Choice Awards
Paramore have announced that they will be performing their song "Still Into You" from their recently released self-titled album on Teen Choice 2013 awards.

The Teen Choice 2013 awards will be airing live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

While Paramore have previously won eight Teen Choice awards, this will be the first time that the group will make an appearance and perform at the event.

This year Paramore have been nominated for the Choice Music: Rock Group. Their previous wins include Choice Music: Rock Group 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; Choice Music: Rock Track 2008, 2009 and 2011 and Choice Music: Album – Rock 2010.

The broadcast will also feature appearances from Liam Hemsworth, Logan Lerman, Lily Collins, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Tyler Posey.

Korn, Queens Of The Stone Age, Black Crowes To Rock Sturgis
Korn, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Black Crowes and Gary Allan will all be rocking the 2013 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally when they take the stage at The Broken Spoke Campground.

Korn was the latest artist announced for the concert series that will be taking place at The Broken Spoke Campground during the Sturgis ralley. They will be performing on Tuesday, August 6th.

The Black Crowes will kick the series off on Sunday, August 4, Queens Of The Stone Age will perform on Monday, August 5 and Gary Allan will perform on Wednesday, August 7.

Organizers expect to announce more concerts and events in the coming weeks for The Broken Spoke Campground at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which will be open from July 29 – August 11.

Additional entertainment including added concerts and motorcycle events at the Broken Spoke Campground will also be announced in the next several weeks. More details here.





Brad Paisley Performs With The Rolling Stones
(hennemusic) Brad Paisley was the featured guest Tuesday night in Philadelphia as the Rolling Stones played the 16th stop on their "50 & Counting" arena tour.

Paisley joined the band for "Dead Flowers," which was also the fan-voted song for the show. The country star is currently on the road for his "Beat This Summer" tour in support of his latest album, "Wheelhouse."

The Stones will play Philadelphia again on Friday before wrapping up the North American tour in Washington on June 24. You can watch video of the Paisley/Stones jam here.




Ministry Announce Release of From Beer To Eternity Album
(Classic Rock) Ministry's new album From Beer To Eternity will be released on September 5 in the UK and on September 6th in North America by 13th Planet Records.

The record was never meant to exist – but mainman Al Jourgensen says he "didn't have a choice" about making it. The record came out of a mammoth session of laying down rough tracks, followed by the tragic death of guitarist Mike Scaccia three days later.

Jourgen says: "We have never, in the history of Ministry, ever had a tracking session like that before. Everything went so smoothly. Mikey was on fire and inspired, and really a driving force."

Megadeth Announce Additional Gigantour Dates
(hennemusic) Megadeth have announced the addition of two New York dates to their upcoming Gigantour schedule. The tour will kick off on July 3rd in Gilford, NH and wrap up on August 11th in Toronto, ON.

Touring in support of their new album, "Super Collider," Megadeth and their touring festival will hit New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on August 6th and 7th.

Megadeth's support acts will be split between the two shows, with Device, Hellyeah and Death Division playing the August 6th show, while Black Label Society and Newsted are confirmed for the August 7th date. more on this story





Yes To Play Three Classic Albums On Upcoming Tour
(Classic Rock) Yes will tour the UK next spring, performing the three-album concert that's taken the US by storm. The veteran prog outfit will deliver The Yes Album, Close To The Edge and Going For The One in full at ten shows, kicking off on April 29, 2014.

Guitarist Steve Howe – who recently gave his reasons for bowing out of Asia – says: "We performed these three albums in their entirety on our North and South American tours, and the fans absolutely loved it."

Bruce Dickinson Secures Big Investment in His New Company
(hennemusic) Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson's aircraft maintenance business, Cardiff Aviation, has secured a £5 million (approximately $7.68 million) investment that will help the new company develop across the South Wales aerospace industry.

About one third of the funds will be contributed by Finance Wales, the U.K. SME investment company and Welsh Government subsidiary, with the remainder coming from private or privately-owned investors, including Dickinson and his business partner Mario Fulgoni, according to Wales Online.

"The Welsh Government has played a fantastic role in a difficult economic environment in providing tremendous support and enthusiasm," says Dickinson. "Finance Wales' long-term backing is the fuel not just to put St Athan on the map, but has the potential to create a consequentially much wider impact across the entire South Wales aerospace industry." more on this story




Bob Dylan Spotted Painting Topless Women in Central Park
(Radio.com) Bob Dylan ditched his microphone for an easel last Thursday (June 13) when he was spotted in Central Park, seemingly painting portraits of topless models lounging in the grass.

The musician tagged along with artist pal Richard Prince for the outing, which has caused a bit of a stir. While onlookers and art bloggers initially assumed Dylan was basing his work off the live models in front of him, it has been revealed that the inspiration behind his painting is actually a photo of Italian actress Sonia Aquino by fashion photographer Bruno Bisang. This comes over a year in the wake of his 2011 painting scandal, in which Dylan was confronted with the very same issue of basing his work off of existing photographs.

Some even speculate as to whether Dylan even painted the latest work himself at all, or if Richard Prince might have lent an artistic hand. Critics of Dylan's past shows addressed the probability of his work acting as social commentary rather than art, making the integrity of its originality irrelevant.

Animal New York points out that Dylan is not be the first artist to take inspiration from others' photos. And, of course, Dylan comes from the music industry where plagiarism is always an issue. Indeed, Dylan has accused others of copying him (notably Hootie & The Blowfish in 1995, when they borrowed five lines of his "Tangled Up In Blue" for their "Only Wanna Be With You"; they reportedly settled out of court) and has also been accused of plagiarizing other people's music (though he told Rolling Stone that those who accuse him of that are "wussies"). more on this story





Van Halen Expand Set List At Tour Kick Off
(hennemusic) Van Halen kicked off their Japanese tour on in Nagoya on Tuesday at the city's Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, and the show featured 27 tracks and clocked in at 2 hours and 20 minutes, according to The Van Halen News Desk.

The band's expanded set list (that is normally 24 songs on this tour) included three additional tunes: "Atomic Punk," "Jamie's Cryin'" and "Mean Street."

Frontman David Lee Roth's solo featured a new twist from the 2012 shows, with his recent short film trailer "Tokyo Story" playing behind his introduction to "Ice Cream Man" as opposed to last year's "Dog Story" vignette. more on this story





Soundgarden's Live From The Artists Den Premiere Announced

Little Angels Play Their Final Show
(Classic Rock) Little Angels singer Toby Jepson has thanked fans for their support after the band played their last-ever gig. They wound their reunion down at the Isle Of Wight Festival on Sunday following a year of appearances.

The band originally split in 1994. Jepson, Bruce and Jimmy Dickinson, Mark Plunkett and Mark Richardson announced last January that they were getting back together for a set at the 2012 Download festival. They'd rekindled their relationships at the funeral of original drummer MIchael Lee in 2008.

Little Angels went on to tour the UK with Skin under the title One More For The Road, then last month confirmed that the Isle Of Wight show, and its two warm-up appearances, would be their last.

Jepson tells fans: "I know it's all been said, and reading all your wonderful comments, in ways far better than I could ever muster – but thank you for the tireless support and the memories that will last forever." Read the rest of his message here.





Bruce Springsteen Even Keeps The E Street Band Guessing
(Classic Rock) E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren needs all of the 30 guitars he takes on stage with him because no one knows what Bruce Springsteen will decide to perform next.

The Boss always writes a set list but he never ever follows it, says Lofgren. He explains: "Sometimes he'll change the first song on the way to the stage because he hears the roar of the crowd and gets a better idea. All night long he's getting better ideas.

Singled Out: Days Between Stations
Today Sepand Samzadeh of Days Between Stations tells us about the song "Eggshell Man" from their brand new album "Extremis". Here is the story:

This is a track featuring the late Peter Banks, Rick Wakeman, Billy Sherwood and Tony Levin, and is the seventh track in our concept album 'In Extremis'. The concept being, the story of a man at the point of death (the Latin definition of 'In Extremis') with his memories whirling around him. The album, in not so chronological order, follows the story of this man, and by the time Eggshell Man appears, the protagonists empire has crumbled. As much he tries to persevere, he keeps falling down. The title comes from the neurotic obsession Oscar and I had developed, by this time, to finish the album… my wife kept saying she was walking on eggshells around us. It is also loosely based off of the Humpty Dumpty fable, which Paul Whitehead depicted in his own fashion in the album artwork.

As the guitarist for Days Between Stations, I wanted to record an acoustic guitar track for the first time. In addition, I was excited to play a Persian lute, named a Tar, on this song. This instrument was part of my many influences growing up and I had always dreamed of introducing it as a Rock worthy instrument to a Western audience. The Persians use this instrument in the classical genre of their music, namely Sonati. Ali Nouri lent his talent on the tar solo on this track, and we really had a great deal of fun recording this with him. The song really fell into place organically.

This is the thunderous Rock track of the album, and definitely my favorite. Oscar hammers away using the Piano, Moog, Electric Piano and Mellotron along with the guitar rhythm and Billy Sherwood's ear shattering and earthquake inducing drums. Tony Levin and Rick Wakeman deliver jaw dropping performances, and I remember being choked up listening back to the track that Billy Sherwood had mixed us towards the end. This track is even more special because it was one of Peter Banks' last tracks. Peter was especially fond of working with us, he had so many great ideas and sometimes flipped an original concept we had on its ear. He would send us 20-30 guitar tracks at a time, giving the song a new dimension, direction and life. Even adding further to the uniqueness of the track, Yes alumni Rick Wakeman and Peter Banks play together for the first time, along with our friend Billy Sherwood. After Peter Banks recorded his parts we spoke over the phone and he was unsure if what he recorded was "it" (he mainly recorded guitar textures, and a few riffs during the tar solo). I told him that he gave the song a new life and we were really excited. He was very happy to hear that. I said, "Rick will have a go at it at the end with a solo, and then I will call you to see if anything else needs to be recorded". As fate would have it, our dear friend passed away.

Alice In Chains Release New Album Sampler
(Classic Rock) Alice In Chains have released an 18-minute sampler containing material from their latest album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, released last month.

It's their second album with frontman William DuVall, following 2009′s Black Gives Way To Blue. Despite having been in the band since 2006, DuVall recently said he was "still settling in."

He explained: "It's always work in progress. There are a lot of things we have in common, then there are a lot of things that set us very much apart from one another." Check out the sampler here.

Festival Promoter Wants Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses Reunions
(Classic Rock) Download festival promoter Andy Copping hasn't given up hope of a reunited Led Zeppelin or Guns N' Roses headlining a future Donington event.
He says: "You can't rule any bands at that level out. Led Zep, the original lineup of Guns N' Roses – I'd love to get them." He says he's close to confirming next year's headliners, although he won't name them.

"Van Halen remains on his wanted list too: "I'd love to get them, but who knows when?" he says. "Maybe one year it'll happen. I live in hope." More rock news stories.

(Classic Rock) Pink Floyd have released their entire back-catalogue on Spotify after saying they'd do so on once "Wish You Were Here" had been streamed one million times.

The target figure was reached in four days. Spotify boss Ken Parks says: "It's a great day for fans of prog rock, but it's also a great day for younger fans who have yet to be really turned on to the magic of Floyd.

KISS Concert To Be Broadcast Live On TV

KISS are currently playing a mixture of headline shows and festival dates across Europe this month in support of their latest album, "Monster."

Murder Plot Suspect and As I Lay Dying Frontman Releasing New Album
(Radio.com) Being charged for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his wife somehow has not slowed down As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis' music career. The metal singer's Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired side project, Austrian Death Machine, is preparing to release Triple Brutal, the band's third full length album as the result of raising nearly $80,000 via crowd-funding.

Based on the amount donated, contributors to the Indiegogo campaign chose to receive such unique items such as having Lambesis as "your personal trainer for a month," spending a day in the studio with the band, recording vocals alongside Lambesis and for a mere $5,000 contribution, "Your initials tattooed on Tim's butt and dinner to celebrate after." Sadly, no one claimed the "Inked in Ink" tattoo offering.

"Tim finished all of his parts back before he went on tour in Asia," said the band's "Ahhnold" character in a recent post to the band's Facebook page. "He was just waiting for me to do my parts and put together the finishing touches on the mix of the album. I'm working on that this starting this week now that I have the files. The CD should be done soon and then we'll start planning to manufacture."

The soon-to-be-released disc features guests including members of Hatebreed, Death by Stereo, DevilDriver, All Shall Perish, and Bleeding Through. The album boasts a track list that reads like a Schwarzenegger SNL comedy skit with songs like "I'll Be Back," "Chill Out Dickwad," and "One More Rep." more on this story



Don Felder Explains What To Expect From Peter Frampton Tour
Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder has hit the road with Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus Tour and antiMusic's Morley Seaver recently spoke with Felder about his latest solo album 'Road to Forever' and asked what fans can expect from the shows. Here is that part of the interview.

antiMusic: You are doing a couple of short runs with the Peter Frampton show in a few weeks. How does it work? Is it like the Ringo Starr setup where everybody does a mini-set and you all play on everybody else's songs or do you just come out for your songs?

Don: I'm going to come out and sit in with Peter and his band and do probably three to four songs. I'll do a couple of Eagle songs like "Hotel". Peter will play guitar with me on "Hotel" and we'll do the harmonies. We'll do "Life in the Fast Lane" and he'll play guitar with me. We'll do Stevie Ray Vaughn's song, "Pride and Joy" so that he and I can trade off on vocals and we can trade off on guitar solos and you know, just have fun playing.

And we'll probably do "Wash Away" as well. It's been on the U.S. Classic Rock radio stations chart in the Top 10 for the last five weeks now so it's getting a lot of airplay and recognition here in the States so we're going to do that song as well. And then somewhere later in the show, I'll come out for the finale and I think he wants to do "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". So we'll trade off on that as well at the end of the show. Metallica Release Video From Surprise Kill 'Em All Performance
(hennemusic) Metallica are sharing some video of their surprise afternoon set at the Orion Music + More festival on Saturday, June 8, which saw the group perform their 1983 album, "Kill 'Em All," in its entirety.

The band have released rehearsal footage and two songs from the set: "Hit The Lights" and "Phantom Lord." The surprise began when James Hetfield appeared on stage to introduce a mystery band on the Orion bill named Dehaan.

The guitarist was joined by the other members of Metallica and the group blazed through their full debut record. Metallica fans will recognize the band name Dehaan was inspired by the band's association with actor Dane DeHaan, who plays a lead role in the group's upcoming 3D concert film, "Through The Never," due for release in September. AC/DC Classic Featured In New TV Commercial
(hennemusic) AC/DC's classic track, "Shoot To Thrill," is featured in a new commercial for US satellite company DirecTV. "Shoot To Thrill" comes from AC/DC's biggest-selling album, 1980's "Back In Black."

The ad, entitled "Chase," promotes the company's cross-device service, which lets subscribers take recorded shows to go on tablets and smartphones.

The commercial was created by ad agency Grey New York, and directed by Doug Liman, who was the director of films like The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Check out the ad here.





Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Reunite
(hennemusic) Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and his wife/manager Sharon have reunited after their recent seperation from eachother and are living together again as a couple.

Sharon has moved back in with the singer after he convinced her that he's been drug- and alcohol-free for months, according to a report by gossip site TMZ.

In April, Ozzy went public with his battle with substance abuse. The couple appeared together at the Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday and went home together after the show. more on this story





Queensryche Streaming New Album Online
(Classic Rock) The version of Queensryche fronted by Todd La Torre are streamed their upcoming self-titled album online and Classic Rock Magazine is streaming all 11 tracks on their site.

The band remain locked in a legal struggle with former singer Geoff Tate, who formed his own Queensryche after being fired last year and released his album Frequency Unknown in April.

Two versions of the band will exist until November, when a court will decide which of them is allowed to keep the name. The self-titled Queensryche album will be released later this month but you can listen to it here.




Bret Michaels A Big Fan Of His Star-Packed Solo Album
(Gibson) It would be nice to have a new album of Poison material one of these days, but frontman Bret Michaels doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get the band back into the studio. His latest is Good Songs and Great Friends, an album of covers of songs from his own catalog with a few covers thrown in for good measure.

The album features guest appearances from a veritable who's who of rock luminaries, including bassists Michael Anthony (Van Halen, Chickenfoot) and Eric Brittingham (Cinderella), and guitarists Ace Frehley, (KISS), Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Frank Hannon (Tesla), Leslie West (Mountain) and his own Poison bandmate C.C. DeVille.

There are plenty of guest vocalists too, including Mark Mcgrath (Sugar Ray), Jimmy Buffett, Loretta Lynn and Robert Mason (Warrant, Lynch Mob).

The album even includes a version of Michaels' track Party Rock Band featuring late Ozzy Osbourne/Motley Crue drummer Randy Castillo. "It's really not just a Bret Michaels album," the singer says. "I had so many other talented artists come in and support that it's really a Bret Michaels & Friends album. There's a staggering amount of talent on this! (hennemusic) Motorhead, Black Sabbath and Alice In Chains were just a few of the artists honored at the 2013 Metal Hammer Golden God Awards event Monday night in London.

Motorhead received the 2013 Golden God Award, which celebrates and recognizes those who have significantly contributed, shaped and inspired the world of rock and metal.

Alice In Chains picked up the Icon award, presented to an artist that has transcended their status as a heavyweight of the genre to earn the status of undisputed legend.

Slayer Vow To Carry On Following Jeff Hanneman's Death
(Classic Rock) Kerry King has vowed Slayer will keep going in the name of late guitarist Jeff Hanneman. He died in May aged 49 from health issues related to heavy drinking. He'd been sidelined since 2011 after contracting necrotising fasciitis, which nearly killed him – thought to have been partly cause by his drinking.

Exodus man Gary Holt had been standing in ever since, and will continue in that role. Now King tells Entertainment Daily News: "Jeff is going to be in everybody's thoughts for a long time. It's unfortunate you can't keep unfortunate things from happening. But we're going to carry on – and he'll be there in spirit."

Speaking at the Kerrang Awards, the guitarist added: "Coming to something like this wasn't really his spiel. He wasn't an awards show kind of guy; he wanted to be the quiet guy doing his thing at the hotel." more on this story




AC/DC Inspired The Cult's Electric
(Classic Rock) The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy says the band owe a lot to AC/DC for inspiring classic album Electric. They're gearing up for a UK tour where they'll deliver the 1987 record in full.

And Duffy says its success is down to his experience of seeing Bon Scott and the Young Brothers in Manchester in 1977. He tells Guitar International: "It was a very honest record. It was the soundtrack of what we were doing at the time – just having fun going round the world.

"It owes a great debt to AC/DC. I've always been into them. I saw them with Bon Scott in Manchester and I was actually able to hit Angus' guitar with my hand while Bon carried him through the auditorium. more on this story





Keith Emerson Said No To Yes
(Classic Rock) Keith Emerson has revealed he once received a late-night phone call asking him if he'd like to join Yes, but it didn't take him long to decide the answer was "No."

The Emerson, Lake and Palmer icon had just returned from a successful world tour when Rick Wakeman made one of his several departures from Yes.

Emerson explains: "I got back to England and my phone rings at 11.30 at night. It was their then-manager, Brian Lane.

"I couldn't believe that I'd been asked if I wanted to join Yes. My response was: 'Brian, why would I want to do that? I've just come off a tour playing 14,000-seat stadiums, sold out. I've got my own band – why would I want to join Yes?'" more on this story

In an effort to ensure fans get fair and proper access to tickets and do not pay over the actual ticket price through scalpers or second-hand brokers, the band have announced the London show will be totally ticketless (paperless) ticketing using the latest technology.

"We are all very pleased to round off this part of the tour back home to celebrate and it promises to be a great night," explains Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. "We used ticketless (paperless) ticketing on our North American tours in 2010 and 2012 and it worked extremely well and we received many positive comments back from our fans.

"With ticketless (paperless) ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided. We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of tickets going to the secondary ticketing sites, which we feel make unfair profits from music fans and often lessen the number of tickets available to real fans, especially at the on-sale." more on this story




Dave Mustaine Avoided Controversy On New Megadeth Album
(Gibson) Dave Mustaine decided to steer away from topical subjects and focus more on matters of the heart for Megadeth's new album, Super Collider. Speaking to Billboard, the veteran guitarist said he deliberately avoided material that might stir controversy.

"[The focus was] a little bit more about human politics this time, like my mother-in-law having Alzheimer's and things like that," Mustaine explained. "Not everybody watches the news, so when you tell somebody that this is going on, that's going on, this guy's part of a cover-up, this guy is a philanderer, they don't want to hear it. But if you say, 'Hey, my mother-in-law has Alzheimer's,' or something they might have going on in their life, too, all of a sudden you've got that bond. So I figured I would write about what goes on inside my heart instead of inside my head this time …."

Super Collider debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200, the band's strongest chart-showing since 1994's Youthanasia. Airbourne Didn't Rush New Album
(Classic Rock) Airbourne frontman Joel O'Keeffe admits the band cut corners while they were making second album No Guts No Glory. But they made sure they didn't make the same mistake with new record Black Dog Barking.

"We might have rushed a few things here and there, because we had two world tours back to back up against each other, " O'Keeffe tells KROCK105.7. "We recorded the music just in the middle of all that. We even had some shows between recording.

"This time, we spaced it out. We worked with producer Brian Howes – he loves the same kind of music that we do like Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest and Elvis.

"He always wanted to make a rock'n'roll record but he never got the chance to. When we worked with him it was very comfortable. We got to do this right." He had more to say.




Mike Portnoy's Final Show With Adrenaline Mob His Best Ever
(Classic Rock) Mike Portnoy admits that he is sad that he is leaving Adrenaline Mob after he played his final show with the supergroup this past weekend in Brazil.

He recently explained scheduling problems with his new outfit The Winery Dogs meant it wasn't possible for him to commit to Adrenaline Mob duties.

His final gig included guest spots with Tim 'Ripper' Owens and Lzzy Hale. Portnoy says: "Amazing final show – maybe one of the best we ever had.

"Sad to see this chapter end. I hope some day down the road our schedules can re-align and we can make some more magic together." More rock news stories.




Mick Jagger's Hair and Bowie Lyrics For Sale
(Classic Rock) A lock of Mick Jagger's hair and handwritten David Bowie lyrics of Jean Genie are amongst a range of rock memorabilia items up for auction by Bonham's on July 3.

The firm thinks the hair will go for up to £2000 while the lyrics will fetch up to £15,000. The auction will also include animation drawings from Pink Floyd's The Wall movie.

Other items in the auction include a letter from Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, John Entwistle handwritten sleeve notes, a scarf worn on stage by Jimi Hendrix, Cream tour paperwork and an Afghan coat owned by Marc Bolan. More rock news stories.




Angry Anderson Not Angry Enough For Politics?
(Classic Rock) Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson has been told that he's too nice for politics and if he wants to win his upcoming election he'll need to learn to attack.

He's been pre-selected to take part in the next federal election."I'm told by veteran politicians that you have to be an animal to be in politics. I assume they're talking about survival instincts, not behaviour," Anderson tells the Sydney Morning Herald. "I've been learning how to be a go-for-the-throat attack dog. Apparently I'm too nice a guy to be considered a politician."

Anderson says his motives are simple: "I want the forgotten people to have a voice. There are a lot of us out there who feel we're not being heard or listened to. I want to be the voice of the common man." more on this story





Lynyrd Skynyrd Celebrate 40th Anniversary In The Studio
(hennemusic) The 40th anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album is featured on this week's edition of In The Studio. Skynyrd guitarists Gary Rossington and Ed King join host Redbeard to talk about the album classic.

Released in August of 1973, "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd" was the first offering from the Southern Rock band out of Jacksonville, FL.

Black Sabbath Explain 'God Is Dead?'
(hennemusic) Black Sabbath have just released their new album, "13." Produced by Rick Rubin, the project is the first by the band with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978's "Never Say Die."

Guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler sat down with NME TV to explain the meaning behind the album's controversially named lead track, "God Is Dead?"

"Ozzy came out with the title," explain Geezer, the group's lyricist. "I was going 'you can't sing that.' He wanted to keep it in, so I wrote the rest of the words around that. It's about a religious fanatic, somebody that's been told that God is dead and he wants to prove that God is alive and well. That's what the song is about."

(Classic Rock) Shinedown have released a new music video for their track "I'll Follow You" and Classic Rock Magazine is currently streaming the video on their website.

track "I'll Follow You" comes from their fourth album, Amaryllis, which came out last year but still seems to be delivering the goods for Brent Smith and co.

They recently announced a US tour alongside Papa Roach, Skillet, In This Moment and We As Human, which kicks off in mid-August in Cleveland, Ohio, and ends a month later in Sacramento, California. Watch the new video here.

(Classic Rock) Lissie is back with a new song called "Shameless." After covering Zep's Stairway To Heaven, having her great Fleetwood Mac rendition (Go Your Own Way) featured on a Twinings advert and guest-starring on (whisper it) Robbie Williams' last album, she's heralding the upcoming release of her second album with the attitude-packed Shameless.

A blistering take on the fame game and style-over-substance celebrities, the song showcases Lissie's tougher, gutsier side. We're particularly digging the chorus:

"I don't want to be famous / If I got to be shameless / If you don't know what my name is / So what, so what?" Check it out and watch out for an appearance by Lissie's pet dog Byron at the end

Alice In Chains Vs Van Halen
(Classic Rock) Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell remembers how a stage war with Van Halen came close to getting out of hand in 1991. AIC were opening for VH and both bands had tried to disrupt each others' sets with a series of pranks.
Cantrell – who recently observed he and his band are "pretty light guys" despite the darkness of their music – tells Jim Dunlop: "The Van Halen guys got us like four times in one set.

"When we came out on stage, they had taken a bunch of three-foot strips of duct tape and put them all over the stage face-up. Within a couple of seconds we were all dragging around huge wads of duct tape.

"They sent out some strippers – not very attractive ones – who stayed out there for a whole song. Then they sent out one of their techs in a Little Bo Peep outfit with some live sheep.

"At the very end, we were playing Man In The Box and their crew came out and started dismantling our entire set around us. They left Sean Kinney with a kick and snare, left me with one cab, they just unplugged Mike Starr.

"And that was all in one set – I don't think anyone has ever topped that commitment to f**king with the opening act." Still, Alice In Chains got their revenge




Whitesnake's David Coverdale Wants To End Robert Plant Feud
(Classic Rock) Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale has offered an olive branch to Robert Plant and apologised for "ugly things" said about the Led Zeppelin icon in the past.

The pair have been at loggerheads since Coverdale teamed up with Zep guitarist Jimmy Page for the 1993 Coverdale Page album. In interviews at the time, Plant expressed some derision at the collaboration, coining the term 'David Cover-version'. Coverdale responded in kind, saying about the singer: "There's certainly no love lost between myself and Robert… I wouldn't send him cat food if he was starving."

Now during an interview set to be broadcast next Wednesday (June 19) on TeamRock Radio's Classic Rock Magazine Show, Coverdale said he wants to put an end to the animosities.

DC told Classic Rock Magazine Show host Nicky Horne: "My last words to Jimmy in London were: 'I'd love to buy Robert a drink.' I said: 'When you speak to him, offer my sincere regrets for any negative things I've ever said, which were mostly defensive.'"

Cov continued: "I hold him [Plant] in the highest esteem as a human being, as an artist, and I really would like to, you know, sit down, buy him a drink, shake hands and say: 'I'm really sorry, you know, can we be friends again?'

"[Out of] my love and respect for Jimmy, I know he'll pass that on to Robert – and Robert might go and tell him to **** himself, who knows, but I don't hold any animosity, just disappointment in myself that I took the bait and ran with some ugly things. Because it's not appropriate for somebody I respect so much."

Kim Deal Quits The Pixies
(Radio.com) Founding Pixies bassist Kim Deal has left the band. Remaining members Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering officially announced her departure on Friday (June 14) through the Pixies Facebook page.

"We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies," reads the statement. "We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best."

Deal, who is currently on tour with her other band, the Breeders, has yet to comment. She joined the Pixies at the band's inception in 1986, releasing four albums together between 1988 and 1991.

The group took an 11-year hiatus in 1993, reportedly due to tensions between deal and frontman Black Francis, and reunited in 2004. The Pixies last tour was a two-year jaunt of their 1989 album, Doolittle, from 2009 to 2011. more on this story




Black Sabbath Break Chart Record With 13
(Classic Rock) Black Sabbath's new album 13 has made Number One in the UK album charts. It's the first time Ozzy Osbourne and co hit the top spot since 1970′s Paranoid – meaning they now hold the world record for the longest time between Number One hits.

13, appropriately, sold 13,000 more than runner-up Beady Eye, fronted by former Oasis's Liam Gallagher. Ozzy says: "I'm in shock. The success of this album has blown me off my feet. We've never hard a record climb the charts so fast."

Rod Stewart, whose new album Time is at Number Three this week, previously held the UK's longest-gap record with 37 years. Bob Dylan was the former overall holder at 38 years. more on this story





Alice Cooper Pens Forward For Megadeth's David Ellefson Autobiography
(hennemusic) Megadeth co-founder and bassist David Ellefson will publish his autobiography, "My Life With Deth," on October 29. It was written with Joel McIver, and features a foreword by Alice Cooper; it also includes contributions from Kerry King (Slayer), Scott Ian (Anthax), Ellefson's current bandmate in Megadeth, Shawn Drover, as well as former colleagues Chris Poland and Marty Friedman.

The memoir chronicles the story of Ellefson's fall into addiction during the band's early years, followed by his subsequent recovery and the return to faith which championed the band's rise to fame over the past several decades.

"My autobiography is not the usual tale of rock 'n' roll woe, but rather something I hope will truly inspire people," says Ellefson. "I have dedicated my life to my craft, and I wanted to share the story of how a kid with a bass guitar and the dream of rock stardom literally risked it all to move from the farm in Minnesota to Los Angeles, and with a lot of hard work, sacrifice and a little luck along the way, made the dream come true.

"I think the readers will enjoy the stories, as well as the hardships, of this way of life as a musician and artist. I've been very open about my life's obstacles and the means by which I overcame them. Brad Paisley To Jam With The Rolling Stones

Iron Maiden Open Show With Dramatic WWII Fighter Plane Flyover
(Classic Rock) Iron Maiden launched their headline set at Download this weekend with a Spitfire flypast. The classic WWII fighter plane crossed the skies above Donington three times before the NWOBM giants launched into 1988 track Moonchild in a cloud of pyrotechnics.

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk16, registration TE311 / 4DV, is maintained by the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight. Maiden's show was previously billed as the only UK show on the current leg of their Maiden England tour, which focuses on the set they delivered while promoting classic album Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.

But at the end of the performance they announced they'd be playing London's O2 on August 3. Frontman Bruce Dickinson explained: "We thought that, because this tour has been such an amazing experience for band and fans alike, it somehow seems right to finish up back home in England and have the final show celebration on home turf. The 02 is a great venue to play with a really fantastic vibe, so we're really looking forward to this show being one almighty party." See video of the flyover here and read more.





Duff McKagan Reflects On Guns N' Roses Infamous Donington Appearance
(Classic Rock) Duff McKagan says Guns N' Roses' 1988 Monsters of Rock set has become so celebrated that people forget the truth of it. The band's controversial Donington appearance saw two fans crushed to death as a result of the weather conditions.

But despite the tragedy, GnR's show – which took place on the same day Iron Maiden played to a record-breaking crowd of 107,000 – ensured star status in the UK.

"What's kind of lost is that people think Guns N' Roses headlined Donington. We played at noon," McKagan says. "We were really low on the bill and we were just happy to be here." more on this story




Black Star Riders' Ricky Warwick Shattered About Dropping Thin Lizzy Name
(Classic Rock) Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick admits he was "shattered" by the belief that the band should not record as Thin Lizzy. Midway during recording the demos for a planned Lizzy album, he had to tell guitarist Scott Gorham that it was wrong, and they'd have to avoid using Phil Lynott's band name.

The result is BSR's acclaimed debut record All Hell Breaks Loose, which was released last month. Warwick tells Jam: "At the time we were recording, I told Scott my confidence had been shattered. Half of me is waking up in the morning pumped up that I'm working on a new Thin Lizzy record. How cool is that? It's the greatest thing ever.

"The other half of me is saying, 'This is so wrong. I can't do this.' And I said: 'For that reason alone, we can't do this as Thin Lizzy.'

"I think everyone was feeling the same way. Once the elephant was out of the room it felt okay. We said, 'We love these songs – we have to figure out a way.'" How does he feel now?





Airbourne, Black Spiders and Tracer Added To Hard Rock Hell
(Classic Rock) Airbourne, Black Spiders and Tracer are among the bands added to the bill for Hard Rock Hell 7, which takes place at Hafan Y Mor Holiday Park in Pwllheli, North Wales, from November 28 to December 1.

The Aussie outfit return to headline the Saturday night by popular demand, joining an impressive bill that already includes Friday's headliners Black Star Riders plus Michael Monroe, Nazareth, Blaze Bayley performing an Iron Maiden set and one of Paul Di'Anno's farewell concerts.

Rival Sons Frontman Says Rock Is No Longer Young and Hungry
(Classic Rock) Rival Sons frontman Jay Buchanan thinks the rock scene has grown too comfortable and far from missing something, the genre has got too much everything.

Buchanan tells Chicago Now: "I don't think rock is missing anything. I would actually state the opposite: rock music possesses too much. Too many options. Too many tricks. Too much software and too much hardware. Over-medicated and out of shape.

"Rock music has become the used car people buy for the flawless paint and luxury interior – without looking under the hood," he continues. "She was so hot when she was young and hungry, but now she's too married and too satisfied. more on this story





Gary Moore's Girlfriend Cut Out of Estate?
(hennemusic) An update on the estate of guitarist Gary Moore, who died in 2011, has been made public. The Daily Mail reports the former Thin Lizzy guitarist left none of his £2million estate to his girlfriend Petra Nioduschewski, because he did not draw up a will.

Nioduschewski battled in vain to resuscitate Moore in their room at a luxury hotel in Spain on February 6, 2011 as he died from a heart attack following a night of heavy drinking.

Probate records reveal that the guitarist left a net estate of £2,088,134 after liabilities. But High Court documents state that he did not leave a will so, under intestate rules, it is believed his fortune will be split between his four children. more on this story




Rare 1996 Def Leppard South African Concert Footage Surfaces
(hennemusic) Some rare 1996 concert footage featuring Def Leppard's first tour of South Africa has surfaced. The UK rockers were captured live on the Slang tour for a TV special when they performed at Johannesburg Stadium in front of 40,000 people on December 5th, 1996.

The pro-shot broadcast video has been posted courtesy of Leppard fan site RockBrigadeForum.com. Def Leppard's first shows in South Africa also included dates in Durban and Cape Town.

The Slang tour saw the band play 133 concerts between May 1996 and April 1997. It was the first Def Leppard tour since the early 1980s where the band used an end stage rather than the centre stage. Check out the footage here.




Tesla Debut New Song In Biloxi
(hennemusic) Tesla debuted a new song called, "Taste My Pain," during their live performance at Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, Mississippi on Friday night.

The California band recently recorded the tune at bassist Brian Wheat's J Street Recorders studio, with plans to release the song digitally as a single sometime this summer … and include it on a forthcoming album, which they're aiming to release in 2014.

Tesla's latest album, "Twisted Wires And The Acoustic Sessions," was released in 2011. The project featured 6 songs that were recorded in 2005, and 6 newly recorded tracks, including acoustic remakes of songs from the band's catalog, plus two brand new songs, "Second Street" and "Better Off Without You". Sebastian Bach Announces He Is 90 Days Sober
(hennemusic) Sebastian Bach is sharing an update on his sobriety. "Today, I am exactly 90 days sober," posted the singer on Friday, "All thanks go to the woman I love @minniegupta . Thank you babe. For saving my life."

Last month, Bach revealed that he had officially begun work on a new studio album. "Totally great day in the studio with producer Bob Marlette & guitar player Jeff George!," he posted at the time.

Keith Richards Discusses Mick Jagger and Upcoming 70th Birthday
(Gibson) Keith Richards opened up on a wide range of topics in a just-published cover-story for Men's Journal. The discussion included talk of his complicated relationship with Mick Jagger and his thoughts on turning 70 this December.

"A lot of these things are blown way out of whack," Richards said, addressing ongoing speculation about tensions between him and the Stones frontman.

"It's like two very volatile brothers – when they clash, they really clash, but when it's over, it's over because we both know we need each other; we both enjoy working with each other. Ninety percent of the time it's as cool as can be, then, of course, the people only get to hear about the 10. And the 10 are pretty fierce."

Asked about hitting the big "7-0," Richards confessed he has no advice regarding longevity. "Everybody should try it if they can get there," he said. "If I had a secret, I'd bottle it maybe. I just happen to be here. Just string it, and play it low." more on this story






Sleeping with Sirens Make No. 3 Debut
(Radio.com) On the Billboard 200 album chart this week, hard rockers Queens of the Stone Age scored their first No. 1 album, selling 91,000 copies of their sixth studio album, …Like Clockwork. QOTSA was followed by Daft Punk, relinquishing their two-week stand at the top of the chart with the much-discussed Random Access Memories slipping to No. 2 with 62,000 copies sold.

It was a far less familiar name in the No. 3 position, however, with Orlando by way of Grand Rapids, Mich., band Sleeping with Sirens moving 59,000 copies of the band's third album, Feel — easily the best sales week in the young "scene-core" rock band's burgeoning career. (The band's second album, 2011 effort Let's Cheer to This, debuted with 18,000 in its first week out.)

"Obviously, we're very excited," lead singer Kellin Quinn Radio.com told this week. "We've worked really hard to get to where we are, and it's just really awesome."

It's a major milestone for Sleeping with Sirens, a band eager to break through to the rock mainstream after paying their dues on the indie post-hardcore circuit since forming in 2009.

"This album is about us becoming more of a rock band, and escape from the scene of music that we were in when we first started," Quinn said, citing the Foo Fighters as a major influence. "The lyrics are straightforward, the music is straightforward, the album is easy to get into. That's the idea behind Feel, to really put across what Sleeping with Sirens is all about right from the beginning." more on this story





Atoms for Peace Perform Intimate Club Show
(Radio.com) Atoms for Peace, the alt-rock super-group featuring Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, thrilled a few hundred fans at an exclusive club show in Los Angeles last week (June 14).

The band, which also includes Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco charged through a dynamic set that ran over two hours and covered both Yorke's 2006 solo album The Eraser and Atoms for Peace's recently released full-length debut, Amok. Fans were also treated to a cover of obscure Radiohead B-side "Paperbag Writer" and a show-closing rendition of "Rabbit in Your Headlights," the song Yorke wrote with DJ Shadow and recorded with James Lavelle's band UNKLE for that band's 1998 debut album, Psyence Fiction.

With the small club Fais Do Do in L.A.'s Mid-City neighborhood rechristened "Club Amok" for the night, this alleged warm-up show for the upcoming Atoms for Peace world tour found the band already in fighting shape, with an especially relaxed Yorke cracking jokes between songs and putting on an impressive display of his increasingly popular dancing skills.

Musically, the band's chemistry was palpable, with Flea indulging the jazzier and more subtle side of his bass playing and serving as an ideal foil for Yorke's distinctive vocal style. With Godrich acting as an onstage musical director flitting between a bevy of different instruments, Waronker and Refosco laid down a rock-sold but fluid rhythm, with Refosco generating sounds from a large bank of exotic drums.

The show revealed Atoms for Peace to be first and foremost a beat machine, pushing and pulling at a panorama of complex polyrhythms like the Talking Heads circa Remain in Light. The enthusiastic crowd responded in kind, turning "Club Amok" into such a joyous dance party that the floor of the old theater buckled noticeably in time to the music. more on this story





Jimmy Eat World Continue Their Evolution With New Generation
(Radio.com) With a career spanning eight albums over two decades, Jimmy Eat World have earned themselves two generations of fans. Their 2001 breakout album, Bleed American, came out swinging with four hit singles that got heavy rotation on radio and MTV in the early '00s. "The Middle," the catchiest of the record's tracks, reached No. 1 on the Hot Modern Rock Chart and No. 5 on the Hot 100.

After 19 years, seven albums and myriad of hits, Jimmy Eat World have made a lasting impression across multiple generations and fans of all types of music. The band released its seventh studio album, Damage, last week (June 11).

"The Jimmy Eat World fan is hard to characterize because it's constantly changing," frontman Jim Adkins told Radio.com. "I met someone last night that had been a fan since our first record, said Adkins. "There's people like that. Then there's people that discovered us when 'The Middle' got really big in 2001-ish. There's people who heard our new single ['I Will Steal You Back'] on the radio — knew who we were but never heard us before — that show up. It's everybody."

"Or even, you have people our parent's age," added guitarist Tom Linton.

While the band are more than happy to play for their dedicated older fanbase, they're thrilled to bring new listeners into the family as well, though this admittedly can lead to awkward clashes between the two age generations of fans.

"I've met 14-year-old girls who were embarrassed because their mom, who they brought to the show, was freaking out," Adkins recalled. "She made her mom listen to us in the car and then her mom got to be a fan too. Then her mom was freaking out because she was meeting us and the daughter's like 'Mom, be cool!'"

Liam Gallagher Recalls Encounter With Lemmy From Motorhead
(Classic Rock) Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher swore off his standard loudmouth behavior when he sat down on a plane and realized Lemmy was on board too.

He decided to keep quiet in case he landed in trouble with the Motorhead icon – but Lemmy had different ideas. Gallagher spoke about the encounter with GQ.

"I met Lemmy once on a plane. I thought, 'I'm not going to drink on this flight – I'm going to wind my neck in.' Can I get a water please?," he said. "Next minute a pair of cowboy boots get put down beside me. He looked at me and said, 'What the f**k are you doing drinking water?'" more on this story





Singled Out: Argonaut's Vintage Dress
Today Nathan Lyons from Argonaut tells us about their new single "Vintage Dress" which comes from their self-titled debut album. Here is the story:

Vintage Dress was created during one of our first song writing sessions. Lorna wrote the progression on a bass guitar – the first time that she had actually ever played one! The guitar parts built on the Pixies/ Nirvana loud/ quiet mission statement that we laid down at the bands inception. Lorna vented the lyrics almost stream of consciousness – I just wrote them down and helped structure them and make them a bit more obtuse. The song is a tribute to Lorna's genius, the way that she works straight from the heart, the music just flowing from her. She has such a natural, unspoilt ability – a true artist.

Vintage Dress was also the first song that we worked on with Criminal Records. Our original version was very four to the floor with a Kim Deal bass line and techno drum machine pattern. Maha [The Kut] re-arranged the track, helping us re-write the bass line into the more Cure like groove that you hear on the record. The drum patterns that she wrote and played really drive the song and the half time chorus drum pattern is a particular fave of mine – anchoring the instruments and pulling back on the beat before letting go and firing back into the chorus. Maha also came up with the immortal phrase 'you know you want me in my vintage dress' which we have utilised for our press campaign.

The song is arranged in a really progressive way, building up with each verse and some nice breaks after each chorus. The synth break after the first chorus was lifted from an instrumental song of ours called 'My life as a dog', and transplanted to great effect. There's also a great little noise break after the second chorus – I'd love to expand this into a MBV 'feed me with your kiss' death of music type thing at some point – I'm envisaging 10 minutes of sheer noise – lovely! The end works so well for me too – stopping on the word 'stop' – so simple and effective.

We always begin our live set with this song. It's perfect for easing each member of the band in one at a time and then blasting out the chorus en masse.

Vintage Dress is the fourth single off of our debut album and we hope that it will be the crossover success that we've been working towards. With Lorna's forays into fashion, customising vintage shoes and clothes, it would be great to hear Vintage Dress as the soundtrack to vintage boutiques across the country this summer!

Duff McKagan and Barrett Martin's Walking Papers Release Lyric Video
(Classic Rock) Walking Papers have released a lyric video for their track The Whole World's Watching. The track is taken from their self-titled debut album, released independently last year and due for a a mainstream launch on August 5.

The Seattle band features Guns n'Roses and Velvet Revolver man Duff McKagan alongside Screaming Trees and Mad Season's Barrett Martin, plus Jeff Angell and Benjamin Anderson of the Missionary Position.

Meanwhile, McKagan has listed his golden rules for surviving live on a tour bus. Among the guidelines listed in his Seattle Weekly blog are: Personal hygiene is key. Crap breath or stank butt can lower moral and kill an appetite (a band does need to eat and stinky body odor from an orifice or two can kill ones' will for nourishment). Metallica Release Orion Performance Video From Sydney
(hennemusic) Metallica are sharing some live and behind the scenes footage from their February 24th appearance at Australia's Soundwave festival in Sydney.

The band has offered up video of their soundcheck, the tuning room, as well as their performance of the Master of Puppets classic "Orion" from the show.

The Sydney stop was the second date of Soundwave, which hit five (5) cities in the country over a two-week period. Metallica headlined the day-long festival, which also featured Linkin Park, A Perfect Circle, The Offspring, Slayer, Stone Sour and dozens of other acts. Check out the video here.




Black Star Riders Complete HiRock Fest Performances Goes Online
(hennemusic) Now that Black Star Riders have released their debut album, "All Hell Breaks Loose," the band has hit the road to bring the new music to fans.

Video of the group's complete June 2nd set at the HiRock Festival in Loreley Freilichtbühne, Germany has surfaced. Black Star Riders appeared on the second day of the weekend event, on a bill headlined by Whitesnake and Journey.

The 12-song performance featured several tracks from the new project, as well as some choice Thin Lizzy classics as a nod to their former band. Check out the footage here.




Venrez Release Unforeseen Video
(Classic Rock) Venrez have released a music video for the song "Unforeseen," which is the opening track to the Los Angeles-based combo's new album 'American Illusion' which will be released on July 30.

Venrez are made up of singer Steven Berez (whose last syllables of his first and last name serve as the group's moniker), guitarists Jason Womack and Alex Kane, bassist Michael Bradford and drummer Ed Davis.

"Unforeseen," explains Berez, "is my favourite track on the LP. It's brutally heavy and demanding to play right. It's At The Drive-In meets Alice in Chains, and really reflects the experiences we've had touring the world together.

"It's about a guy we met backstage on tour in France, Phillippe. He was so wasted but so happy too. He was all about embracing the moment maybe more than anyone I've ever met, and inspired me to put pen to paper. He did ultimately get kicked out of the venue for crapping in the sink of the women's toilet… but who hasn't at least once?!" Check out the video here.





Vintage Trouble Release 'Pelvis Pusher' Video
(Classic Rock) Vintage Trouble have released a video for their track "Pelvis Pusher," which appears on their album "The Bomb Shelter Sessions," which has just been released in a digital Encore Edition featuring four extra tracks including the video.

The Los Angeles outfit – who were named Best New Band Of The Year at 2011′s Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards – are currently supporting the Who on tour across the UK, with Roger Daltrey calling them "a great band who are electric to watch."

They'll appear at Glastonbury at the end of the month then support the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park – and meanwhile they're playing a set of their own headline shows.

Singer Ty Taylor says of Vintage Trouble: "It's raw, naked and hard-hitting – 1950s rhythm and blues music with the abandonment of late 60s rock'n'roll. We are blown away nightly by how deeply the folks throw themselves into our party." Check out the video here.

(Gibson) At 24 years old, the world lost Duane Allman, guitarist and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, far too soon, but his legacy and influence on the guitar lives on. In the following feature, we look through some past interviews with Allman, his friends and family to find out more about this rock 'n' roll guitar legend.

Duane on developing musical talent, as told to Guitar Player Magazine (via True Fire): "Develop your talent, and leave the world with something. Records are really gifts from people. To think that an artist would love you enough to share his music with anyone is a beautiful thing. That's fascinated me ever since I piled up my motorcycle. Miles Davis does the best job, to me, of portraying in the innermost, subtlest, softest feelings in the human psyche. He does it beautifully. He's a fascinating talent, man, a marvelous, marvelous man and a great entertainer. And John Coltrane, probably one of the finest most accomplished players, took his music farther than anybody I believe I ever heard."

Duane on rock music speaking to the times, as told to Guitar Player Magazine (via True Fire): ". . . Yeah! It's a like a newspaper for people that can't read. Rock and roll will tell you right where everything's at. It's just something to move your feet, man, and move your heart and make you feel good inside–forget about all the bullsh*t that's going on for awhile and fill up some of the dead space."

Duane on blues and jazz music being similar, as told to Guitar Player Magazine (via True Fire): "Yeah, it really is, man. It's just that as human feelings become more complex, as the world gets a little bit more divided and intelligent, complexity is the only difference between blues and jazz. It's all the portrayal of the feelings and the soul in a medium other than words. You can either complain and say, "Oh man, I really feel bad," or you can put you sadness into a musical context and make it desirable. Nobody wants to hear anybody bellyache, but everybody want to hear him play the blues. You can say the same thing, but make it to where it's a little less offensive to your fellow man by playing it with music."
