KISS Cancel Rock Hall Performance After Ace and Peter Uproar
KISS stars Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons have pulled the plug on performing at the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction after original members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley broke the news that the were not going to be allowed to perform at the event.
Criss told fans this weekend, "It's disappointing to have to say to you, the fans, that as of today, Ace and I have been denied a performance with Gene and Paul for our Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Tickets go on sale on Monday, February 24th and I wanted to make sure that fans understood that no original performance, in or out of makeup, has been offered to us before they purchased their tickets. This is disgraceful and I feel bad for the fans who were looking forward to the four of us being inducted together."

Frehley broke the news during a radio interview on Friday night. hennemusic reports that Frehley said, "I don't think KISS fans are gonna be too excited and happy about the news, 'cause at this juncture, Paul [Stanley] and Gene [Simmons] have decided to perform with [current KISS members] Tommy [Thayer] and Eric [Singer], and it looks like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is going along with it."

Frehley told listeners that Stanley and Simmons "shot down doing any type of reunion with [original KISS drummer Peter Criss and me] - with makeup, without makeup."

"I'm not gonna get on the stage with Tommy wearing my makeup. That's absurd", stated the guitarist. "It's a shame. I know what the fans wanted. I know it's what the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame wanted. [But] it's not gonna happen."

Then on Sunday, Stanley and Simmons told fans that there would be no performance at the event. They wrote, "Out of respect, Ace and Peter's recent statements demand a quick response to you, our fans. Our intention was to celebrate the entire history of KISS and give credit to all members including present long time members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and additionally Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr all who have made this band what it is, regardless of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's point of view. [Vinnie Vincent and the late Mark St. John were also members of KISS.]

"Although KISS has moved forward far longer without them, Ace and Peter are at the very foundation of what we have built and this would all be impossible had they not been a part of it in the beginning.

"It is over 13 years since the original lineup has played together in make-up and we believe the memory of those times would not be enhanced. Contrary to claims made through the media we have never refused to play with Ace and Peter.

"We have spent 40 years dedicated to building KISS without quitting or wavering as the band has moved forward with huge tours and platinum albums through different important lineups for forty years, to this day.

"KISS has always been a band unlike any other. That is why we started KISS. That is why we continue KISS. Being unlike other bands also means making choices and decisions unlike other bands.

"This is understandably an emotional situation where there is no way to please everyone. To bring this to a quick end, we have decided not to play in any line-up and we will focus our attention on celebrating our induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

"We are excited and are looking forward to seeing you all on the KISS 40th Anniversary worldwide tour."




Death on Gregg Allman Biopic Set
Gregg Allman has released a statement after a crew member was killed and seven other people were injured on the set of the filming of his forthcoming biopic 'Midnight Rider'.

27-year-old second camera assistant Sarah Elizabeth Jones was killed Thursday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia after she was hit by a freight train during the filing of a dream sequence on a railroad bridge. More details about the accident here.

"I am so terribly saddened by the news of the tragedy that took the young life of Sarah Elizabeth Jones on the film set," said Gregg Allman. "My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and colleagues during this time of mourning."




Alter Bridge Singer Reveals Details Of His Led Zeppelin Audition
(hennemusic) Alter Bridge and Slash singer Myles Kennedy shared the inside story of his 2008 audition with Led Zeppelin on a recent edition of VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show", and video of the episode is available to stream online.

Kennedy was one of the frontmen to rehearse with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham in the months following their 2007 reunion at London's 02 Arena (since released as "Celebration Day"), after Robert Plant passed on continuing under the Zeppelin banner to focus on his solo career.

"Believe me… those rehearsals I will remember to my dying day," said Kennedy. "When we're talking about this it seems completely ridiculous - there's no way - but it did happen. We played 'The Rain Song,' which is probably my favorite Led Zeppelin song, 'No Quarter,' 'Kashmir,' it was a lot of fun."

"But it wasn't going to be 'Led Zeppelin,'" he continued. "I don't know if they knew what it was going to be. They just wanted to play, they wanted to jam, they wanted to put a project of some sort together. They weren't sure what it was, but it was never going to be Led Zeppelin with a new singer, I mean, obviously." Watch the video here.




Newsted Cancel Tour Dates Including Soundwave Festival
Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted announced that his band Newsted have been forced to cancel their upcoming tour dates including their appearance at this year's Soundwave Festival in Australia.

Jason Newsted broke the news on Facebook this weekend. The message appears to have since been deleted but Loadwirereports that Newsted posted the following message, "NEWSTED METALHEADS-

"Due to private and personal circumstances, we sincerely regret to inform you that The NEWSTED Band is unable to perform in February & March as scheduled…Our deepest apologies for any inconvenience to you. We are all gutted by this turn of events.

"Our hope is that we will have another opportunity to share our Heavy Music with you all again sometime in the near future. I'm sorry, Sisters & Brothers, We were really looking forward to these shows too… L I S T E N T O M E T A L J" more on this story




Nazareth Reveal New Singer
(Classic Rock) Nazareth have named fellow Scot Linton Osborne as the replacement for lead singer Dan McCafferty, who was forced to retire last year due to ill health.

The veteran outfit are gearing up to hit the road once again, while their final album with McCafferty is due for release later this year. Naz say in a statement: "Born in Edinburgh and raised near Dunfermline, 41-year-old Linton has been singing and performing professionally for as long as he can remember.

"After extensive auditions, the band was knocked out by Linton's voice, presence and style. And he's a thoroughly good guy! His enthusiasm and energy has been a shot in the arm for the band - a real boost after the sense of loss and sadness at the sudden retirement of our dear friend and brother Dan." more on this story




Metallica Have 1200 Riffs For New Album
(Gibson) Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says that the band "have to" start work on their next album soon. Metallica's last album was Death Magnetic in 2008. Their collaboration with the late Lou Reed, Lulu, was released in 2011. Metallica have toured since (and continue to tour) but Hammett says they need to record new material soon.

Speaking to Kerrang! magazine, Hammett says, "We cannot think of any other reasons to procrastinate. We're kind of backed up into the corner now, so yes, we have to start working on the album. And I'm excited. James [Hetfield] has, like, 800 riffs. I only have 400, but there's not going to be any shortage of ideas. It's going to be interesting to see how it turns out."

There are no songs as such yet, though. Hammett says, "We have little bits and pieces of music earmarked to become songs, and really that's all I can say about it. We're pretty psyched about it. We're only procrastinating because we love being at home with our families, but we really do love writing songs together and making an album."

Is 2015 likely? When asked, Hammett said: "I'm up for it, man." more on this story







Jimi Hendrix To Be Featured On U.S. Stamp
(hennemusic) Late guitar legend Jimi Hendrix is set to be featured on a forthcoming U.S. postage stamp as part of the United States Postal Service's U.S. Music Icons series.

The design of the Hendrix stamp will be revealed during its launch at the South By SouthWest music festival in Austin, Texas; the event will take place on the SXSW outdoor stage in Butler Park on March 13 at 11 a.m.

The image used on the stamp is a painting of Hendrix by Rudy Gutierrez, who created the artwork for the 2002 album, "Shaman", by Santana; the Hendrix stamp is his first project for the Postal Service. more on this story




Van Halen's David Lee Roth Performs With Beach Boy
(hennemusic) Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth joined Beach Boys singer Mike Love to perform the band's classic, "California Girls", at The Society Of Singers' 21st ELLA Awards on Thursday in Beverly Hills, and video from the appearance has surfaced.

The 21st ELLA Awards honored Love, lead singer and co-founder of The Beach Boys, as well as producer Nigel Lythgoe and backup singers The Waters Family.

Roth famously covered "California Girls" on his 1985 EP, "Crazy From The Heat." The Van Halen singer's version reached No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Watch the video here.





Hawkwind Abandon North American Tour Plans
(Prog) Hawkwind have abandoned plans for their first tour of the US and Canada in decades, after a series of incidents which threatened the wellbeing of band and crew became too difficult to overcome.

In September the band said they were "insulted and angry" after former member Nik Turner advanced a legal process which, they believed, would make it impossible for them to use the band name on the other side of the Atlantic.

The added stress led mainman Dave Brock to become too ill to travel, and the tour was postponed. Then last month a series of rumours were spread which suggested Brock didn't have a work visa, leading to the loss of at least one booking in Canada, and putting others in doubt.

Now Hawkwind have apologised to North American fans after admitting defeat. They say in a statement: "We have tried everything - but it became a logistical nightmare. We put all out money and savings into making it happen. This huge effort has become all-encompassing, and over the last year has affected not only our lives, but those of our friends and families, and it has undermined our creativity in that period." Katatonia Lose A Member
(Prog) Katatonia have split with guitarist Per Eriksson with immediate effect. He'll be replaced for the band's upcoming shows by The Pineapple Thief mainman Bruce Soord.

It marks the end of Eriksson's four-year stint with the Swedish outfit after he started as a session and touring member in 2010. Jonas Renkse's outfit say in a statement: "It has been some time coming, but guitarist Per 'Sodomiser' Erikkson and Katatonia have mutually agreed to part ways.

"A difference in views on the band's current operative, as well as last year's decision from Per to permanently live in Barcelona have made his involvement too problematic, both for him and the remaining members." more on this story





Arctic Monkeys Frontman Declares That Rock and Roll Will Never Die
(Radio.com) While the Arctic Monkeys generated plenty of headlines (not to mention record and ticket sales) on the strength of their latest album, AM, frontman Alex Turner stepped out this week and incited a firestorm of attention with his words.

After winning British Album of the Year at this week's Brit Awards, Turner used his acceptance speech as a rallying cry for a return to rock 'n' roll, poking a little fun at One Direction along the way.

"Yeah, that rock'n'roll, it seems like it's faded away sometimes, but it will never die," Turner told the crowd. "And there's nothing you can do about it." He then literally dropped the mic and left the stage, but not before offering to pick up tab for the microphone he was about to break. What nice English lad.

But when Turner and drummer Matt Helders sat down with Radio.com a few weeks ago, there was no mic drops. Instead they sat down and spoke about the process behind their confident new full-length, which Turner says sounds like the "Spiders From Mars covering Aaliyah."

Led Zeppelin Then As it Was Revised And Updated
(hennemusic) A revised and updated edition of "Led Zeppelin Then As it Was - At Knebworth 1979" by author Dave Lewis focuses on the band's appearance at the UK event.

In August of 1979, thousands of fans flocked to Knebworth to see Led Zeppelin perform their first UK shows in four years and their first live date since the death of Robert Plant's son during the band's 1977 North American tour.

Zeppelin played live on August 4 and August 11, 1979 at Knebworth House before an estimated 200,000 fans each night. The band were joined by The New Barbarians (featuring Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards) (August 11 only), Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Southside Johnny, Marshall Tucker, Commander Cody, Chas & Dave and Fairport Convention. more on this story




Jon Lord Biography Video Preview Released
(hennemusic) "Jon Lord - All Those Years Ago", a new, limited-edition photo biography of the late Deep Purple keyboardist, will be published in April and a video preview for the book has been released.

The book features a history and recollection of Jon's early life from birth to the start of Deep Purple by his brother Steve Lord. The project includes never before seen, personal family photographs, Jon's own photographs from his days with Deep Purple, contributions from Jon's colleagues, friends and family and unpublished professional images.

The bio features unique contributions from Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Bernie Marsden and many others.

Anthrax's Scott Ian Not Taking Motley Crue Road With Autobiography
(hennemusic) Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian will publish his autobiography, "I'm The Man", on October 7th. Ian says his memoir will be distinctly different from other rock bios.

"What makes mine different is that it doesn't take the usual story arc that most of these rock/metal biographies and autobiographies do," Ian tells Lithium magazine.

"That arc is usually the rise to fame, the fame, the crash and burn and then some sort of redemption. I don't have that story arc. I don't know what you would call my story genre, but it's more about coming from nothing and being able to do all that I have done.

"I think it's about being able to show anybody that no matter where you come from, whether you're a scrawny kid from Queen's, you do have the opportunity to make something of yourself. I am the living proof of that. And you don't have to take the normal road that's portrayed in these books. You don't have to take the Motley Crue road." more on this story





Video From Rolling Stones 14 On Fire Tour Kick Off Goes Online
(hennemusic) The Rolling Stones launched their 14 On Fire Tour Friday night in Adu Dhabi, the Stones first-ever performance in the United Arab Emirates, and video of the show has surfaced.

The band's 19-song set at the sold-out du Arena at Yas Island kicked off with "Start Me Up", and featured one classic track after another, including the fan-voted "Gimme Shelter."

Up next, the band travel to Japan to play three sold-out shows at the Tokyo Dome, starting on Wednesday, February 26. Watch over half a dozen videos from the tour kick off here.




Green Day Play Free Show in Tiny Pub
(Gibson) Green Day surprised fans in Australia on 20 February by playing a tiny pub gig 45 minutes after announcing the show on Twitter. It was a warm-up show for Green Day's headline appearance at the Soundwave festival.

The band took to the microblogging site at 10:15pm to announce they would be hitting the stage at The Captain Cook Hotel in Paddington, Sydney, at 11pm.

The message read: "hello Aussie! Green Day is playing tonight at a club called Captain Cook Hotel Tonight in Sydney. I repeat, Tonight! Feb 20th around 11:00pm."

Fans dashed to the venue for the free show. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong walked out on stage and said, "I guess a few of you saw the tweet." more on this story






Floyd Taylor Dead at 60
(The Blues Floyd Taylor, the son of iconic bluesman Johnnie Taylor, has died, it's been reported. The singer's younger brother TJ Hooker Taylor tells TimesDaily.com: "He died pretty much the way my dad died: a heart attack at the age of 60."

Based in Chicago, Floyd Taylor appeared on stage alongside his father in the 1970s and also performed with Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and others. In 1998 he was named Entertainer Of The Year by the Chicago Blues Society.

He released his debut album, Legacy, in 2002. In December last year he launched a single entitled It's On Me, taken from his fifth studio record Shut Um Down. He'd just completed a US tour, with more dates booked for next month, and was planning more shows overseas. more on this story




Gilby Clarke Recalls Playing Axl Free Guns N' Roses Rock Hall Induction
(hennemusic) Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke spoke with KLOS 95.5 FM in Los Angeles on Friday about a variety of subjects, including playing the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 without frontman Axl Rose.

"It was a strange time, because there was kind of like a dark cloud over our whole induction, because Axl decided not to go," said Clarke. "And once he decided not to go, the dark cloud kind of went away, 'cause the guys that did go, we all get along great, we still play together all the time, and it actually was fun. We had a really good time."

"We actually only rehearsed, like, the night before the thing," he continued. "We got together at a club… We hadn't played those songs in 20 years, so that was the thing… I mean, for me, we were trying to figure out what songs we were gonna play, and I'm, like, 'Wow, I haven't played that song in 20 years.' It had to come back to me. It was funny: there was a photo going around on Twitter of Duff and I in the bathroom, actually, going over the songs, trying to remember the riffs and things like that." more on this story




Kurt Cobain Statue Features One Lonely Tear
(Radio.com) Art may be subjective, but it's safe to say that the recently unveiled statue of Kurt Cobain in his hometown of Aberdeen, Washington is not going to win any awards anytime soon.

The statue was part of the town's Kurt Cobain Day, which they celebrated Thursday (Feb. 20) on what would have been Cobain's 47th birthday. The statue itself features Cobain sitting on a stool playing an acoustic guitar with one lonely tear dribbling out of his eye. We'll assume this is an homage to the Virgin Mary or perhaps the crying Indian who wishes you would just stop littering.

Not that everyone in Aberdeen was looking to honor the man. Case in point, a local news station referred to their hometown hero on air as "the lead singer of Nirvana… a well known heroin addict who shot himself nearly 20 years ago."

The report itself focused on the controversial decision to celebrate Cobain's legacy and features one reporter ticking off Cobain's less than stellar attributes-drug use, vandalism, lack of hometown pride-and eventually makes the bold statement we've all been wishing someone would make, Kurt Cobain was "no George Washington." No, in fact, he wasn't.

But let's all shed one tear in solidarity with Cobain's clay statue and hope the dedication at Nirvana's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on April 10 is a bit more complimentary. Nirvana will also be the recipient of its 24-hour commemoration on the same day as the band's induction into the Hall of Fame, when the small city of Hoquiam, Washington, celebrates the first Nirvana Day.

Anubis Gate Release Seven-Minute Album Preview
(Prog) Danish prog-metal band Anubis Gate have launched a seven-minute trailer for their upcoming sixth album Horizons. The follow-up to 2011′s self-titled LP is due for release on April 15 via Nightmare Records.

Horizons - the second album to feature bassist Henrik Fevre on lead vocals, and the first to include drummer Morten Gade Sorensen - will be available in digital and physical formats.

A four-track EP is included with the CD edition, containing live performances of songs from Anubis Gate's first two albums. The new album is described as "daring, from liquid grooves to uneven time signatures, trademark soundscapes and heavy riffing." Watch the trailer here.





65daysofstatic Plan 10th Anniversary Reissue
(Prog) 65daysofstatic will mark the 10th anniversary of debut album The Fall Of Math with a deluxe re-release on March 24 via Monotreme Records. And they'll back it up with a UK tour featuring a unique two-set London show, where the entire record will be performed in full for the first time.

The Sheffield band say: "In the first year of the weird post 9/11 future we all now occupy, we wrote a record entirely by mistake in an obscure room in the north of England, usually in the evening after finishing whatever day-jobs we were holding down.

"While 65daysofstatic are no longer the people we were back then, the world is as big a mess as it ever was. The Fall of Math holds a great significance for us - maybe it does for you too. We're looking forward to trying to remember how to play a bunch of the music on there. Come and see the results in March." more on this story





Heart Release Extended Preview Of Fanatic Live DVD
(hennemusic) Heart will release "Fanatic Live From Caesars Colosseum", on CD and DVD/Blu Ray this coming Tuesday, February 25, and the band are sharing an extended video preview of the set.

The new live package captures the Seattle band live on their "Fanatic" tour at Caesars Colosseum in Windsor, Ontario, an event originally filmed by AXS-TV.

In addition to songs from the band's 2012 "Fanatic" album - which were performed for the first time for the television viewing audience - "Fanatic Live From Caesars Colosseum" also showcases many of Heart's classic hits including "Barracuda," "Crazy On You," "These Dreams," "Alone," "What About Love," and many more. Arcade Fire Perform 'Afterlife' On The Tonight Show
(Radio.com) Before watching Arcade Fire's performance of "Afterlife" on Thursday night's (Feb. 20) episode of The Tonight Show, make sure you've digested your breakfast. There's a lot of spinning.

For the band's performance, frontman Win Butler decided to take the reigns and shoot the beginning of the song himself, selfie-style. Butler spins around with the camera revealing each member of his band in their black and white matching outfits and eventually turns the lens on himself for a very up close and personal shot.

Butler ends the performance in the crowd, climbing all over the brand new seats in Studio 6B shouting the line, "Where do we go?" He didn't go too far though, choosing to serenade the first few rows of the balcony.

Singled Out: Kiven's In The Fire
Today Kiven frontman Tyler Demorest tells us about the song "In The Fire" from their brand new self-titled debut album, which was produced by Tony Hajjar from At The Drive-In. Here is the story:

I'd like to think I wasn't tired
Tired of ongoing dreams
As we throw ourselves into the fire slowly
Believe it time it may discover
Shedding light to all fears
Don't try don't speak don't even bother for me

Sometimes it's tasking doing what you love. The introduction to this song is an acknowledgment of this lethargic hangover you can experience when you're devoting your whole self to an idea that isn't / won't be materialized until months later. It's a statement wishing that I wasn't tired of the grind, but how there's no need for sympathy - as it's a choice to dedicate myself to a craft that can often bring about a ton of joy and fulfillment.

After the introduction... In The Fire starts.

Closing doors, shut off the roar below
But a murmor of the matter can seed this, can feed disbelief.
And for a moment, you're fearing numb
But a surgeon for the latter I'm told, could lose their hold and down we go.

I was actually working on this song at home after we wrapped an "early" rehearsal. It was about 930PM when I sat down in my apartment to get going and some dickhead neighbor yelled "shut uppppp" from his window haha. Looking back it's pretty hilarious, but at the time it was a bit of a "f*** you neighbor guy symbolizing the rest of the world" moment. I knew I wanted the song to be about passion, and dedication - but i needed a vehicle.... and there it was.

"In the fire, we burn it all to earn a
On the wire we loose ourselves along the middle
I'm not coming home, I'm not coming home"

This chorus encompasses the effort and what can be a perpetual let down for pursing passion. We've had success, but all artists along the way question their craft, their time and dedication, and input along the way. The process of making this album in particular was difficult, yet rewarding. We continually wrestled with the amount of time and energy put in the project, while juggling the ability to make a living and the amount of time it takes to make that living comfortable. The final sentence is that defiance to comfort or the leap into commitment to your craft.

Faith in tow, deceiving down the road
In a complicated gesture letting go
You're not alone
For a moment lie alone, clueless on the matter when you fold your hope
And losing hold of what you know

The second verse continues down the journey and explores uncertainty of what's ahead. It's particularly applicable to my situation but it works for anyone refusing to be complacent with a typical life by letting go of the routine in exchange for uncertainty.

AC/DC Plan New Music And Tour Dates For 40th Anniversary
(Classic Rock) AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson has confirmed the band will be back in action soon to mark their 40th anniversary. The singer has confirmed their schedule had been put on hold while one member of the band dealt with serious health issues.
Johnson tells 98.7 The Gater: "We've been denying anything because we weren't sure. One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn't like to say anything. We're pretty private about things like this; he's a very proud man."

He continues, "I think we'll be going in the studio in May in Vancouver - which means we should be getting ready. It's been 40 years of the band's existence, so I think we're going to try to go 40 gigs to thank the fans for their undying loyalty. We're happy to go out even though we're getting a bit long in the tooth - I'm really looking forward to it." more on this story




KISS Frontman Says Rock Hall Is 'Tainted, Corrupted And Distorted'
(Classic Rock) KISS have long been outspoken critics of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and frontman Paul Stanley has not changed his tune, calling the Rock Hall "tainted, corrupted and distorted" even after fans helped the band finally be inducted to the hall this year.

Classic Rock has published excerpts of their exclusive interview with Stanley where he shares his strong feelings about the Rock Hall and whether Ace Frehley and Peter Criss are invited to the upcoming induction ceremony.

Stanley was asked, "Did you feel honoured at being inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?" He responded, "No, it was done begrudgingly and because it had become absolutely ludicrous that they were choosing to ignore us. At the end of the day most people don't realise that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame was a privately created establishment and that it has a self-appointed board. It's a perfect case of perception becoming reality. People heard 'Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame' and gave it credibility. So whether it deserves the title has to be weighed against who it inducts. So was it an honour to be nominated? No. It means a lot to the fans and I understand it because it's validation for them. So for that reason I accept graciously and accept on their behalf.

"My feelings and my ambivalence about the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame hasn't changed any. Their attitude is elitist and it doesn't reflect the public. It reflects a small group who dictate who meets the criteria that they set up as 'rock and roll'. I've always felt the spirit of rock and roll meant not only ignoring your critics, but ignoring your peers and going your own way. I think we've done that pretty much with few exceptions for forty years. So that same criteria that kept us out has not gotten us in. I scratch my head a little and I also take issue with a certain arrogance within that group.

"Nonetheless I look at some of the inductees and any club that has Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and The Who and the Beatles and the Stones is company I don't mind being in and my feelings have nothing to do with any of them, it purely has to do with a system which I think is tainted, corrupted and distorted."

He was then asked if was looking forward to playing at the induction event. He responded, "Honestly, I have no plans at the moment to do anything, and that includes playing with Ace and Peter or anyone else. My plan at the moment is to go and accept the award. Anything else, we'll see how it unfolds or unravels. It was interesting to me, or offensive to me, that when the question was broached with the hierarchy about inducting additional members it was shut down immediately as 'a non starter,' which to me is arrogant. People who sit behind desks need to respect the people who are actually either inductees or possible inductees into this so-called hallowed organization. So the fact that there are 30 or 40 or 50 or some absurd number of Grateful Dead members all inducted, the fact that all of the Chili Peppers, including people who played on early albums that never amounted to very much are not inducted, the fact that John Rutsey, the drummer on the first Rush album is not inducted, the fact that Rob Trujillo, who's a great guy but didn't play on any of the classic Metallica albums, was inducted after being in the band six years makes me wonder exactly what are the rules? If the rules don't apply to everybody then they're not rules."

Guns N' Roses Tease Big Announcement For Tuesday
Guns N' Roses decided to tease fans on Valentine's Day by telling them that they will be making a big announcement on Tuesday (which they hint will be the confirmation of another Las Vegas residency).

As we previously reported at he beginning of the month, The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas teased fans with posts on their Facebook page on January 31st with one photo tagged "Coming Spring 2014. #GNRVegas" along with the message "Text GNR to 97580 to be the first to hear the big news."

Then the band followed up last Friday on their website, "Whispers around the craps table (and our offices), is that GNR have a big announcement this Tuesday. We could gamble some big money on guessing what that announcement will be… Nightrain members will be the first to roll the dice at the exclusive tables, so get your chips in place and hop onboard the Nightrain! Tuesday. 7am. Tune in to Guns N Roses.com."

Guns N' Roses staged their first-ever residency, "Appetite For Democracy," at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's live music venue The Joint back in the fall of 2012.




The Exploited Singer Suffers On Stage Heart Attack
Veteran punk band The Exploited have been forced to cancel their tour after frontman Wattie Buchan suffered a heart attack on stage during a concert last Thursday (February 13th).

The band were performing at the Lisbon, Portugal stop of their European "Tour Of Chaos" with Hatebreed and Napalm Death when Buchan suffered the heart attack, according to Classic Rock.

On Thursday night the band apologized to fans via Facebook by posting "Sorry to have stopped the concert halfway through tonight but Wattie had taken very ill and couldn't continue. Thanks for your understanding."

The band then posted a follow-up message on Friday where they announced they were pulling out of the tour. They wrote, "I'm sorry to say that due to a severe illness. That Wattie can't continue with the tour. He will be in hospital for at least a week. Thanks for all the get well messages. Much Appreciated."




Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder Rocks AC/DC Classic With Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band fans in Melbourne, Australia were treated to a special appearance by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder on Saturday night.

Vedder joining Springsteen and the band on stage perform two tracks including the AC/DC classic "Highway to Hell," which Springsteen has been performing on the Aussie tour as a tribute to late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott.

"We're going to have some help opening the show tonight. Let me bring up Eddie Vedder!," Springsteen told the crowd at Melbourne's AAMI Park as Vedder joined the band on stage to perform the AC/DC classic.

The Pearl Jam frontman stayed on stage to duet with Springsteen on the title track to Springsteen's album "Darkness On The Edge Of Town." Billboard is streaming videos of both performances here.




Lombardo Slams Slayer
Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo still has strong feeling about his dismissal from the group last year. In a new interview with Planet Mosh, Lombardo discusses his firing and the band's reaction to the death of Jeff Hanneman.

"This could have been an easy fix," he said about the issue which drove him out of the band. "I wasn't asking for anything other than to be treated equally.

"I'm sure I've made mistakes along the way, but my intention was never to leave. Who would do that in the golden years of a band? Where we stand now disgusts me. Jeff [Hanneman] didn't want this - and neither did I."

Lombardo was also asked about Tom Araya's comments in a recent interview with Metal Hammer, where Araya described him as "a working member of the band" and not a partner in the group that he co-founded.

He responded, "It's sickening. I left the band in '92 to be at home for the birth of my son, period. One show changed the course of this band. Tom has forgotten history... swallowed the stories that have been created throughout the years to sell tickets. If it weren't for me, Slayer would not exist. I approached Kerry [King] to start this band. Somehow they have forgotten that."

He says that his relationship with Araya and Kerry King is currently "sadly, non-existent" and he said he didn't regret his Facebook "rant". He said, "No. My 'ranting' on Facebook still stands because it's accurate."

He went on to talk about his relationship with Jeff Hanneman and also his shock that Tom Araya didn't show up at Henneman's memorial. Read what he had to say about that and more here.





Lacuna Coil Lose Two Members
Lacuna Coil revealed that Cris 'Pizza' Migliore and Cristiano 'CriZ' Mozzati have left the group as they prepare to release their new studio album "Broken Crown Halo" on April 1st.

'Pizza', 'CriZ' and the band all issued statements about the two member's retirement from the group. The band had this to say, "It is with a heavy heart that we share this news with you today: Our two brothers Cris 'Pizza' Migliore and Cristiano 'CriZ' Mozzati have decided to retire from LACUNA COIL.

"Both Pizza and CriZ have had big changes impact their lives recently - we know how stressful and difficult it can be to balance both real life and the life of a professional touring musician, and we have nothing but total respect for their decisions to focus on their families and lives at home.

"We have such incredible memories of traveling and exploring the world together with Pizza and CriZ, and we want to wish them both all the best as they begin these exciting new chapters in their lives. We will never forget the important roles they played in this band, or the incredible times we shared together."

Cris 'Pizza' Migliore had this to say, "After over 16 years spent with the Lacuna Coil family, I decided to move on and begin a new chapter in my life. This hasn't been an easy decision, as you can imagine, but I felt like I needed to change some things around.

"I'm glad and honored that I've had the chance to be able to embark on such an amazing adventure, with such wonderful people as "travel companions"! I will never forget my time in Lacuna Coil and I wish my sister and brothers all the best for whatever the future may bring.

"I'm sure you understand! I would also really like to thank every single one of you for showing such amazing love and support for a small band from Milan, Italy, who would've never thought would become what it has during these incredible 16 years. Thank you all and enjoy this last record we did with me and CriZ as part of the line-up - it's some of the best music we've done and I'm sure you'll love it!"

Cristiano 'CriZ' Mozzati had this to say, "As many of you guys and gals know, during this last year lots of very important things happened in my life - something really amazing, and deep enough to make me sit in front of my laptop to write these bittersweet words...

"I'm leaving my 'second family' Lacuna Coil because I need this change in my life... this hasn't been an easy decision at all and I've come to it with pain in my heart, because together we laughed and cried; we fought and gave all our lives to this amazing band. Together we lived the dream for 16 wonderful, intense and unforgettable years. All you guys around the world gave me such positive and sincere vibes and emotions that will stay embedded in my heart for the rest of my life! Documentary About The Who's Tommy Coming To DVD
(Classic Rock) The Who's groundbreaking album Tommy is the subject of a documentary which goes on sale next month in DVD, Blu-ray and digital video format via Eagle Rock.

Sensation: The Story Of Tommy is an extended version of a film broadcast by the BBC last year, featuring new interviews with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey plus archive conversations with late bassist John Entwistle. Engineer Bob Pridden, artist Mike McInnerney and others offer insight into the making and impact of the 1969 concept album, which received a deluxe and super-deluxe re-release last year.

Speaking at the premiere in October 2013, vocalist Daltrey recalled: "The signs were there the first time we played it live - the audience reaction was extraordinary. Megadeth Icon Compilation Set For Release
Megadeth will be the latest artist featured in UMe's "Icon" compilation series, with the Megadeth edition set to be released on February 25th in the U.S. and March 11th in Canada.

The new compilation will feature some of the veteran thrash band's best known tracks including "Peace Sells", "Symphony Of Destruction," "Trust," Hanger 18," "In My Darkest Hour," and "A Tout Le Monde."

The band had these details about the series: The aptly named "Icon" series from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) launched in August 31, 2010, with releases from 30 major artists spanning rock, pop, R&B and country.

Rolling Stones Invite Fans To Intimate Rehearsal Jam
(hennemusic) The Rolling Stones marked the last day of their 14 On Fire tour rehearsals by inviting fans into a Paris, France studio to watch them play a short set.

Over thirty fans, who'd been listening to the rehearsals in the street, watched the Stones perform a 7-song set, including "Doom And Gloom", "She's So Cold", "Before They Make Me Run" and more.

"I was there since this morning," one of the lucky fans told France 24. "At around 2.30pm, a member of the Stones' entourage came out and wrote a number on our hands. At the time there were 27 of us. We were all brought inside." more on this story





The Faceless Lose A Member and Working On New Music
The Faceless revealed on Friday (February 14th) that they have parted ways with guitarist Wes Hauch and said that they have put their covers album on "the back-burner" in favor of working on new original music.

Here is what they had to say, "The Faceless have officially parted ways with Wes. Things were moving in different directions and it seems that this is best for everyone. We wish him the best of luck and we know he's going to continue to do great things in music. Please keep supporting Wes in everything he does. We definitely will.

"We are also currently working on new music with bassist Evan Brewer, who is remaining a full-time member of the band, to clear up any confusion. Producer Tsangarides Released From Hospital
(Classic Rock) Famed producer and engineer Chris Tsangarides has been released from hospital in Kent after recovering from a medically-induced coma, he's confirmed.

The Grammy-nominated deskman - best known for his work with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and other metal icons - underwent an emergency lung bypass in January after contracting Legionnaires' disease.

He'd spent time in a support unit in London before being returned to Kent, and has now been allowed to continue his recuperation at home.

Tsangarides says: "It feels so good to be in my own bed! All the messages of support have overwhelmed me - I knew there were messages but had no access to them in hospital. more on this story




The Clash Documentary Coming To DVD
(Classic Rock) A documentary charting the career of The Clash is to be released on DVD on March 10, offering a new look at their history and the trailer has been released online.

The influential outfit disintegrated in 1986, after drummer Topper Headon had left in 1982 and guitarist Mick Jones had been fired the following year. Mainman Joe Strummer's death in 2002 put an end to fans' hopes for a reunion - which Jones recently insisted would never have happened anyway.

Producers say: "How did it happen that at the top of their fame and success The Clash were able to self-destruct? The documentary impresses with inside information and shows the rise and the fall - from huge success down to dismantling themselves. The DVD contains a host of previously unreleased material and interviews." Watch the trailer here.





Ricky Warwick Calls On Fans For New Albums Help
(Classic Rock) Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick has announced the launch of a pledge campaign to fund the making of two albums that are set to be released later this year.

It's yet another tie-in with Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott, who'll produce the records, as he did for Warwick's first two solo titles. The pair were recently signed up to appear in a music movie and Elliott was last month confirmed as producer for BSR's second album.

Former Almighty vocalist Warwick says: "These will be my fourth and fifth studio albums - the acoustic one is going to be called Hearts On Trees, and the theme will be being true to your roots and what people sacrifice for their homes. The other will be called When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues). There will not be an acoustic guitar in sight on that one. more on this story





Whitechapel Pull Out of Soundwave Festival Due To Death In The Family
Whitechapel have been forced to pull out of the upcoming Soundwave Festival tour of Australia and their appearance at Westfest 2014 in New Zealand after a band member suffered a loss in their immediate family.

The band tweeted the bad news to fans on Sunday night. They wrote, "We regret to inform we must cancel our upcoming shows in Australia and New Zealand due to the death of a members immediate family member."

An hour later the band added, "It's a decision that no band wants to make, but family comes first, and we will be back as soon as we can. Thank you for understanding."

The band was scheduled to take part in the annual Soundwave Festival with Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington, Alice In Chains, Rob Zombie, Korn, Trivium, Down, Alterbridge and more.

They have also canceled their appearance at Westfest 2014 on February 20th at Vector Arena in Auckland Central, New Zealand. Kill Devil Hill Release 'Leave It All Behind' Video
Metal supergroup Kill Devil Hill have released a new music video for the song "Leave It All Behind," the first clip the band has released from their most recent album 'Revolution Rise'.

The new album was produced by Jeff Pilson and the band, which features former Pantera and Down bassist Rex Brown, former Dio, Black Sabbath and Heaven And Hell drummer Vinny Appice, former Pissing Razors frontman Dewey Bragg and 40 Cycle Hum guitarist Mark Zavon.

Brown had this to say about the new video, "'Leave It All Behind' was shot with a very different approach for us. It's a story board video that intertwines the band with a guy that has faced some apocalyptic demons in his own mind.

"We shot the video at an old missile site in Southern California that had been burned out by fires years ago. The story hits very close to home with the lyrical content of the song, which makes it even more surreal and sublime - we'll leave the rest up to your interpretation!" Watch it here.

(Classic Rock) Scorpion Child have recruited Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders star Scott Gorham to record the introduction to the band's new music video for "Kings Highway".

The animated clip was directed by award-winning stop-motion maestro Jess Cope (Steven Wilson, Storm Corrosion, Devin Townsend) of Owlhouse Studios, whose talents have been seen in the short film The Astronomer's Sun, the British children's television series Postman Pat and Tim Burton's feature film, Frankenweenie.

Anette Olzon Releases 'Lies' Video
(Prog) Prog has premiered "Lies," the new track and video by symphonic songstress Anette Olzon. The song comes from her upcoming debut solo album Shine.

The former Nightwish frontwoman says, "I am so thrilled to finally release my first solo album," says Anette. "I've been working on it for a long time by now... The album is very personal with songs I have started writing already in 2009 but also very recent songs."

The US President's Day weekend saw the Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp team up with Guitar Player magazine for the special edition of Rock Camp, which also saw appearances by Cars guitarist Elliot Easton, bassist Michael Anthony, Gary Hoey, Tony Franklin (The Firm), Danny Seraphine of Chicago and Joe Vitale (drummer for CSN and the Eagles). Vandenberg's MoonKings Release 'Breathing' Video

Van Halen Working On New Album
(hennemusic) Van Halen are working on a new album, Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti revealed in an interview with VH1 Radio Network when he was asked about new music from his solo project, Tremonti, which includes bassist Wolfgang Van Halen.
"With Wolfgang in the band now," said the guitarist, "he does a lot of work with Van Halen right now, they're putting together a new album, so it's going to be hard to get everybody's schedules to line up."

Asked if Wolfgang has revealed much about how the new Van Halen material sounds, Tremonti replied, "You know, he doesn't. He just says, 'Yeah, sounds great, man. Sounds great.'" more on this story




Queen Plan To Tour With Adam Lambert
(hennemusic) Queen guitarist Brian May has provided more details about the band's plans to hit the road again. He now says the band is trying to lineup a summer US tour with former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert.

"We've been talking to Adam Lambert, you know we've already done some gigs with Adam, who is amazing," May told BBC Radio 2 host Steve Wright. "We are ongoing, we can't help it. I think we all protested too much in the sense when Freddie went and we didn't want to talk about it and didn't want to be Queen for a while."

Guns N' Roses Frontman Axl Rose Angered By Zoo
(hennemusic) Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has tweeted a series of rants regarding the recent killing of a two-year-old giraffe at the Copenhagen Zoo. The Zoo killed the healthy baby giraffe and fed its remains to lions as visitors watched, while ignoring a petition signed by thousands and offers from other zoos and a private individual to save the animal; the facility claimed the killing was needed to prevent inbreeding.

"Just enjoying the lion's share of some tasty baby Giraffica sliders! Mmmmm! What'll them crazy Danes think of next!", tweeted Rose. "But seriously, let me get this straight...," he continued.

"The Danes killed a 2yr old baby giraffe, chopped it up n' fed him to the lions (allegedly in front of kids) to avoid inbreeding rather than find a place for it. Maybe this is a big problem over there I don't know but I'm not getting how this deters siblings n' various other assorted Danish family members from f***in' each other?! J/k :)"

Rose followed up his posts with another tweet, writing, "Lemme get a Giraffica, a homemade cherry Danish, some o' them pre-fried Pepper's... Oh! n' a liter of cola!" more on this story




Blink-182 Begin Working On New Album
(TeamRock Radio) Exciting news from the Blink 182 camp Thursday morning as a band has revealed that the group has officially begun demoing for a brand new studio album.

In a post on his Twitter, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus showed a picture of progress made by the band in the initial stages of work for the follow-up to 2011's 'Neighborhoods' and the most recent recordings on 2012's criminally overlooked 'Dogs Eating Dogs' EP.

his is just the beginning of what is going to be the start of a massive 2nd half of 2014 with Travis Barker's autobiography due to be released in October, the band's headline performances at this year's Reading and Leeds festivals and this new album expected to surface at the tail end of the year. more on this story




Metallica and Lang Lang Release Single
If you enjoyed Metallica and Lang Lang's performance of "One" during the Grammy Awards, Metallica has officially released "One (Awards Show Rehearsal Version)" as a digital single.

The new single version was recorded on January 23rd at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, CA during Metallica and Lang Lang's rehearsals for their performance at the Grammys. They will be donating part of the proceeds from the single to Music Cares.

The band had this to say about the release, "We had such an amazing time performing "One" with world-renowned concert pianist Lang Lang at a recent awards show that we want to share it with those of you who couldn't watch or just want to re-live it sonically.

Black Sabbath's Bill Ward Recovering From Surgery
(hennemusic) Original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has issued a health update to fans following a rough few months last fall, revealing that he is recovering from a surgery he underwent last month.

"I hope you're well," Ward posted on Facebook. "I'm re-starting the radio show on Saturday, February, 15, 2014. As many of you know, I've been in hospital for a while (our last radio show was in August 2013). I had a final operation on January 7, 2014, and I'm very pleased to say that a positive outcome has prevailed. I'm healing slowly and surely."

"On September 18, 2013, I thought I'd take advantage of the down time and have a right shoulder repair surgery," he continued. "Four days after that surgery, I had the perforated diverticulitis. I'm mentioning the shoulder surgery because approximately two weeks ago, we finally started the shoulder rehab.

"It'll be about six weeks before the frozen joints can be workable again. I'm hoping to be playing drums by mid-March 2014. I want to start back in with jam sessions with a jazz quartet, something softer before I start slamming again." more on this story




U2 To Perform At The Oscars
(Gibson) U2 are up for Best Original Song at this year's Oscars, and Bono has let it slip that the band will perform at the ceremony. Speaking with The Wrap earlier this week at the Academy's nominees' luncheon, Bono said the band will perform their song that's up for an Oscar, "Ordinary Love," which is featured in the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Bono added that this is the one time fans will have the chance to see the song performed live, specifically stating that this will be the "only band performance of the song."

"After Mandela died, we didn't think it would be right to release it as a single, because it would seem like we were trying to capitalize," Bono explained. "So we're going to do it this once - but it's a pretty good place to do it."

Bono is hoping to switch things up at next year's Oscars. He told the publication that he has pitched an idea to the Oscar telecast producers for the red carpet to have an imprint of the logo for his (RED) charity organization next year. (RED) works to fight AIDS and provide education on the disease. "We'll have a camera looking down on the parentheses, and then the stars can all stand in the parentheses and look up," he said." more on this story






AC/DC's Bon Scott Hometown Statue Delayed
(hennemusic) The unveiling of a statue honoring late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott in the singer's former hometown of Kirriemuir, Scotland has been delayed to next year.

The statue was originally scheduled to be revealed during the town's annual tribute to the late singer, Bonfest, but an organizer for the event, Graham Galloway says that the unveiling has been pushed back until next year.

"We have made the decision to push the unveiling of the statue back to next year's Bonfest, which will take place in May 2015," said Galloway. "Artist John McKenna has now started work on the statue after a public vote confirmed the final design will include bagpipes over Bon's shoulder.

"We had hoped to be ready for this year's Bonfest in August (15-17), but as the statue is now part of the major renovations to Kirriemuir's town centre the final installation date has been somewhat taken out of our hands." more on this story




Magellan's Wayne Gardner Dies
(Prog) Magellan guitarist and bassist Wayne Gardner has died "from a self inflicted use of a firearm," his brother and bandmate Trent Gardner revealed to fans, according to Prog.

Trent posted the following on the band's website, "Today, my brother Wayne Gardner, died from a self inflicted use of a firearm. Our family is devastated by his loss and in a state of shock. I prefer not to relay any further details until I know all the facts myself.

"I will always cherish our time as kids growing up and our life in pursuit of music. All the effort and joy of our unique experience is what I want to think about now.

"His young family is my immediate concern. Please say a prayer for his eternal soul and for his family. We all love you Wayne and hope peace in God are with you. Your loyal brother…" more on this story




Lamb Of God Making TV Appearance
Lamb Of God's Randy Blythe and Chris Adler will be making their debut appearance on VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" on February 22nd where they will discuss their new film.

The band's new feature film, "As The Palaces Burn," is scheduled to be released worldwide on February 27th and one of the hosts from "That Metal Show" conducts the 30 minute Q&A that will follow all showings of the film in theaters and venues.

Sirius XM subscribers can also tune-in to Liquid Metal (channel 40) for a weeklong special promoting the film from February 21st through 28th. The special will include newly recorded interviews by Jose Mangin with Blythe, Adler, and the film's director Don Argott.

Mastodon Member Explains What Fans Can Expect From New Album
(Classic Rock) Mastodon have finished recording their sixth studio album but Brann Dailor warns fans in an interview with Loudwire.com not to expect the album until the summer at the earliest.

The drummer explained the timeline behind the new album and what to expect to hear on the band's forthcoming musical offering. He says: "Today is the last day of tracking. There is one more song to be sung, and then, that's it.

"[The new album] borrows from everything we have done. I feel like whenever we write a new record or go into the studio, we always pick something from that or find something that we like from the previous albums or songs and then there is the fact that we can't really change who we are as musicians and what we kind of gravitate towards naturally together.

"So it sounds like us - some super duper heavy stuff. It's heavier stuff than we've done in the last two albums. This one sort of reminds me of, as far as the collection of songs, reminds me a little more of Blood Mountain." He had a lot more to say.





We Are The In Crowd Cancel Tour Due To Illness
(TeamRock Radio) New York pop rockers We Are The In Crowd have had to cancel the rest of their European tour following singer Taylor Jardine getting sick after the completion of the band's UK run.

Speaking in a series of tweets to explain, Tay has said: "As many of you have already heard, we have cancelled our 4 mainland European shows due to illness. We are very sorry and will come back ASAP.

"We need to be back at 100% by the time our US run starts and this was our only solution unfortunately. Thanks for your understanding! Sorry if my wording came off like we don't care about EU. We do! We're very sick and need to rest right now. That's all there is to it." Fans can still catch them on TeamRock Radio this weekend.




Rob Caggiano Enjoys Pushing Boundaries With Volbeat
(Classic Rock) Rob Caggiano says he is loving life with Volbeat and being part of a band which is not afraid to push the boundaries and try something new. The guitarist, formerly of thrash-metal legends Anthrax, has slotted seamlessly into the band who have blended unusual instruments and a western vibe into their recent Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies record.

He tells Artist Direct: "One thing about Volbeat is there are no rules or boundaries. It's all about trying different things. Who would ever think to put a banjo on a f***ing heavy metal song?

"It works great, especially considering the lyrical theme of this album and the western vibe of the whole thing. That's also a production question. It's having the ear to see how it works or how it doesn't work as well as how it fits together in the big picture. I've been doing that for a really long time. I guess I'm used to it." He goes on to explain how he joined the band.




Gus G. Release Video From Forthcoming Solo Album
Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and Firewind star Gus G. has released a music video for the song "My Will Be Done (featuring Mats Leven)," the opening track from his new solo album.

Gus G.'s debut solo album will be entitled "I Am The Fire" and is scheduled to be released on March 18th in North America and March 17th across Europe by Century Media Records. Check out the new video here.

The album's first official single "I Am The Fire (featuring Devour The Day)," will be released digitally on February 25th on iTunes and is already get heavy airplay on SiriusXM Octane and is set to be released to traditional radio on February 18th.

The Rolling Stones Add New 14 On Fire Tour Date
The Rolling Stones have added another stop to their upcoming 14 On Fire Tour which will be hitting various markets across Asia, Australia and New Zealand and will include former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor (1969-1974) as a special guest.

The newly announced tour date is being billed as "a one-night only show" that will be taking place on March 15th at the Singapore Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom.

Frontman Mick Jagger had this to say, "Can't wait to be back on stage in Singapore, I am really looking forward to playing all your favourite songs and seeing you all very soon."

Guitarist Keith Richards adds, "The best place in the world for me is out on that stage. Standby everyone...its back to where we belong, Me, Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and some friends all rocking out together. The wheels are in motion and we're on our way…see you very soon!"

The Stones say that the stage design for the concert at The Sands Grand Ballroom will be based on an intimate setup that will allow all audience members to be up close to the band and it will also include a large catwalk that extends out into the audience. more on this story




The Answer Release 'New Horizon' Video
(Classic Rock) Following their New Horizon album and November 2013 tour, The Answer are set to release a new single (also titled New Horizon). It includes cover versions of Rory Gallagher's Cradle Rock, Danzig's Snakes Of Christ plus two new acoustic renditions of the band's own song Road Less Travelled.

The five-track single bundle will be released on April 7 in support of the Answer's new 32-date tour that kicks off in Aberdeen on February 19 and runs right through to the end of March.

The latest video for New Horizon was directed by Darren Lee of Maverick Renegade Productions and features the now iconic Storm Thorgerson-conceived 'birdman' on an rampage through the streets of Belfast.

Says lead singer Cormac Neeson: "The concept of the video was based on an altered perception of reality and the inner struggle of the mind. Our birdman has some serious issues but eventually manages to conquer his demons…" Watch the video here.




Courtney Love Fears Nirvana's Rock Hall Induction Will Be Awkward
(hennemusic) Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love will be joining the members of Nirvana at their April 10 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, and in a new interview with Access Hollywood, she says the evening will be awkward based on her long-standing feud with Dave Grohl over the rights to, and use of, the band's music.

"We're going to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I think we're all sitting at the same table," said Love, agreeing that it will be awkward but she will say hello to Grohl. "Of course, it's not my hashtag Yoko."

Love's interview was to promote the launch of her new reality show/YouTube channel this Friday. Nirvana are being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame along with KISS, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. more on this story




Olympics Gold Winning Snowboarder Fueled By Metal Classics
(Gibson) U.S. snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg took home a gold medal this past weekend during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. When asked what tunes he was pumping just before the competition, Kotsenburg rattled off a few familiar metal names: Metallica, Slayer and Judas Priest.

Speaking with Today.com, the snowboarder explained that on the day of the debut Olympic slopestyle event, he woke up at 6:50 a.m. and "just started bumping that stuff and getting into a nice mindset for the day."

He added that for breakfast he had "some rando healthy stuff" along the lines of bran flakes cereal. We think it was the metal that did the trick, though. In the end, Kotsenburg, 20, landed the first-ever gold medal given out for snowboard slopestyle for the U.S. more on this story






Matt Stevens Streams Song From Forthcoming Album
(Prog) Prog guitarist Matt Stevens will release his fourth solo album Lucid on March 31st and he is giving fans a taste of the album with an online stream of the title track.

The album is his first for prog label Esoteric (also home to Van der Graaf Generator, Peter Hammill & Gary Lucas, Tin Spirits among others), and also features contributions from the likes of Jem Godfrey (Frost*), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Lorenzo Filiciati (Naked Truth) and Charlie Cawood (Knifeworld).

Stevens himself describes the work as "an album that reflects a love of Jesu and Celtic Frost as much as it does a passion for Mahavishnu Orchestra and King Crimson." Stream the song here.




H.E.A.T Release A Shot At Redemption Video
(Classic Rock) April 14 sees the UK release of the new studio album Tearing Down The Walls by Swedish rockers H.E.A.T via earMUSIC and they have released a video for the lead single "A Shot At Redemption."

A Shot At Redemption will be released digitally as part of a four-track EP on February 14 which will also inlcude the previously unreleased Under Your Skin.

The EP will also feature an acoustic version of In And Out Of Trouble and "a sensual cover" of the Dirty Dancing power ballad She's Like The Wind. Watch the A Shot At Redemption video here.



Jeff Green Teases New Album
(Prog) Progressive rock guitarist Jeff Green will release his second album, Elder Creek, through F2 Records/Festival Music on February 18 and he has a released a teaser video for the effort.

The guitarist, who used to front Eagles tribute band The Illegal Eagles, has amassed a stellar cast to help him out in the new record, including Alan Reed, Mike Stobbie and Sean Filkins, whist Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson has mastered the album, which is a concept album themed around aspects of human memory.

Green came to prominence through his 2009 debut album Jessica, an album of material Green wrote in the aftermath of the tragic stillborn death of his daughter in 1996. This album is also to be distributed by F2/Festival.

Megadeth Address Newsted Feud Reports
(TeamRock Radio) Dave Mustaine has shouted down a rumor that he's fallen out with former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. Megadeth and Newsted toured across the US together last year and the bandleaders even shared the stage for a rendition of early Metallica track Phantom Lord.
But this week it was announced that the bands wouldn't appear together on Australian touring festival Soundwave's two side shows - and organisers said the decision had been down to Mustaine.

A brief statement reported: "At the request of Megadeth, Newsted will not be playing the Sidewaves, and instead will be replaced by Whitechapel." Boss AJ Maddah followed up Twitter queries by stating the addition of Whitechapel was "Dave's choice," and speculated: "Maybe there is a problem between managers or agents. Something has certainly gone down, although we have no details."

But responding to angry comments on Facebook last night, Mustaine said: "Look, I'm disappointed too. I explained to Jason Newsted this morning. We didn't put him on the show and we didn't kick him off the show. He understands, why don't you?" He had more to say.




Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham Form New Band
(Classic Rock) Former Black Country Communion stars, singer-bassist Glenn Hughes and drummer Jason Bonham, have announced the formation of a new band: California Breed.

Apart from Hughes and Bonham, the band features 23-year-old singer-guitarist Andrew Watt, and their first album has been produced by Dave Cobb, (Rival Sons). "It's proper rock," says Hughes, "but at the same time it's very now. Andrew is as influenced by Mick Ronson as he is Jimmy Page."

"I grew up listening to all the grunge bands," says Watt, "but my dad always played me The Who, the Stones and Led Zeppelin so that became my music too.

"This kid is amazing," says Bonham. "The first time we met I thought he looked like the white Jimi Hendrix. And he plays in the studio likes he's onstage!"

The three-man line-up got together as California Breed for the first time last year after Hughes was introduced to the newcomer from New York by their mutual friend Julian Lennon. Find out what happened next.




Axl Rose Brings Humor To Chili Peppers Super Bowl Controversy

Rose wrote, 'In The Name Of Science. In regard to the internet's "no wireless" controversy regarding the Red Hot Chili Peppers Superbowl performance as reported on ESPN...

'I enjoyed the show and I've no idea what the real story is nor would I want to suggest or imply anyone wasn't actually performing or that what they were playing wasn't what we actually heard. That said I feel it's important to always look on the positive side of things and to give the benefit of doubt.

'So consider that maybe sometime before their actual performance that rather than use a guitar cord or standard wireless, that in the name of science and for all mankind Flea courageously had a newly invented breakthrough in microchip technology installed in his a** that picked up the frequencies of his ba** and transmitted them to his amplifier.

'Maybe they all had microchips installed in their a**es and not only pick up the frequencies of their instruments but get Direct TV and the internet too! Like Google Glass... Google A**! B.B. King's Birthplace Memorial Stolen
(The Blues The Mississippi Blues Commission memorial sign that marks B.B. King's birthplace has been stolen. The large aluminium plate has gone missing from its location near Berclair in Leflore County - and manufacturer Alan Hammons says there's no way it happened by accident.

Hammons had this to say: "It clearly points out the interest some people have in our musical heritage; but we'd obviously prefer they leave the marker in place."

The blue sign, one of over 120 on the Mississippi Blues Trail, reads: "The long and remarkable life of B.B. King began near this site, where he was born Riley B. King on September 16, 1925. His parents, Albert and Nora Ella King, were sharecroppers who lived in a simple home southeast of here along Bear Creek. After his parents separated when he was four, King lived in Kilmichael and Lexington before moving as a teen to Indianola, which he referred to as his hometown." But there is good news.





Famed Black Sabbath Producer Tsangarides Recovering From Coma
(Classic Rock) Grammy-nominated British record producer Chris Tsangarides is now recovering from a medically induced coma in a Kent hospital, his family has confirmed.

He was admitted two weeks ago suffering from symptoms which suggested pneumonia, but he was later diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease, which he is thought to have contracted during a business trip.

Tsangarides, known for his work with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore and The Quireboys, among many others, appeared in hit 2009 movie Anvil! The Story Of Anvil when he agreed to work on their album This Is Thirteen.

Specialists performed a lung bypass before moving him to a support unit in London. He has now been returned to Kent, where he's conscious and able to talk, although he remains in intensive care. Read what his wife had to say here.




Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder Teaming Up For Tour
Foreigner, Styx, and former Eagles star Don Felder have announced that will be teaming up for a North American trek this summer which they have dubbed "The Soundtrack of Summer".

The tour is set to launch on May 16 in Oklahoma City, OK at the Zoo Amphitheatre and will conclude on July 27th in 27 Santa Barbara, CA. Styx and Foreigner will be switching for the closing spot from night to night.

Ginger Baker Calls On Fans to Help With Anthology and Book
(Classic Rock) Cream legend Ginger Baker has launched a Pledge campaign to fund the release of a career-spanning double-disc anthology and an exclusive photo book.

The Cream icon and his family aim to mark his 75th birthday this year with the launch of A Drummer's Tale, with pledge points starting at £8 and running up to £95, and offers including signed books, drumsticks and VIP access to a London concert.

Baker says on his Pledge page: "Stand by your beds everyone! It's been over thirty years since the RSO launched The Best Of Ginger Baker anthology - without consulting me about the content!

Curved Air Releasing Album With First New Music Since 1976
(Prog) Curved Air will release their first album to feature new music since 1976 when their new effort North Star goes on sale next month. (March 17th in Europe).

The 14-track record features seven fresh tracks alongside a collection of re-recordings and covers. The digital single Colder Than A Rose In Snow was released last year and another, Stay Human, is coming soon.

Original members Sonja Kristina and Florian Pilkington-Miksa were rejoined by Air Cut-era guitarist Kirby Gregory for studio sessions, alongside Paul Sax, Robert Norton and Chris Harris. more on this story




Scorpion Child Dismiss Two Members
(Classic Rock) Scorpion Child have dismissed two members of the band and will continue as a four-piece, with former Job For A Cowboy drummer Jon 'Charn' Rice joining the line-up. He takes over from Shawn Alvear, while rhythm guitarist Tom Frank won't be replaced.

Bassist Shaun Avants has thanked the outgoing pair for their work as members of the rising-star Texan band, saying (via Blabbermouth): "It should be noted that their contributions were not without their merits."

He explains: "As with any team or group, decisions must be made that are vital to the overall attitude, creativity, quality and lifespan of a shared and common goal. Any decision we make will be for the betterment and advancement of this band.

"We have decided to move forward as a four-piece, at least for now, as we say goodbye to our friends Tom and Shawn Alvear. We wish them the very best in any and all of their future endeavours." more on this story





Rolling Stones Star Would Be 'Quite Happy' To End Touring
(Classic Rock) Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has admitted that he would be "quite happy" if the legendary band's upcoming dates for their Australian tour are their last.

The 72-year-old also says there's a reason behind their recent spate or short runs rather than the extensive treks they used to undertake. Watts tells The Australian: "This is short compared to what we've done before - but it needs to be, I think, at our tender age.

"The thought of doing fifty shows, which was normal at one time for us to sign off on, that's quite daunting. Now we're doing that in little bits." He adds, "If we don't do any more I'll be quite happy with that." more on this story




Asia Set Release of New Album 'Gravitas'
(hennemusic) British supergroup Asia will release a new album, "Gravitas", next month. Produced and written by John Wetton and Geoff Downes, the project introduces Asia's new guitarist, Sam Coulson, who replaced Steve Howe last year following his return to the Yes lineup.

"With the addition of Sam it allowed us to take the band in a slightly different, and perhaps tougher, direction." says drummer Carl Palmer. "He brings a different feel to Asia with his guitar work. As a band we have been able to grow, while at the same time, remain true to the classic Asia sound that our fans know and love."

Scheduled for release on March 5th (Japan), March 21st (Europe). and March 25th (North America), "Gravitas" will be available in two configurations: a standard CD and a Deluxe Edition, that will include two bonus tracks and a DVD containing the "Valkyrie" music video, a promotional film, and footage of classic live Asia tracks such as "Heat Of The Moment", recorded with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra in Bulgaria. more on this story





Sting Rocks Beatles Classic on Letterman
(hennemusic) Sting performed "Drive My Car" on The Late Show with David Letterman Tuesday as part of the second night of Beatles week on the program, as the show pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' debut on the "Ed Sullivan Show."

Sting was joined by guests Ivy Levan and Mike Einziger and backed by Letterman's house band led by Paul Shaffer. The Late Show is filmed at the Ed Sullivan Theater, site of the Fab Four's iconic U.S. debut on February 9, 1964.

The Beatles' first "Ed Sullivan Show" appearance is hailed by many historians and critics to be one of the most important moments in music and television.

Halestorm Release 'Mz Hyde' Video
(TeamRock Radio) Halestorm have released a video for their track Mz Hyde. Frontwoman Lzzy Hale wrote the song from recent album The Strange Case Of... in an attempt to capture her own good and bad sides.

She said in 2013: "Growing up, I was a very shy and introverted, so I more or less had to invent Mz. Hyde in order to be the rock star I wanted to be onstage.

"I brought this to the guys, and all three of them said, 'Oh my God, that's it - Lzzy, you are Mz. Hyde! Once we put this song on the record, everything else makes sense because we have the soft side of you and then the harder side of you.

"I was like, 'Well, okay, I'm glad we were able to work that out - basically at my expense.'" Watch the video here.





Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen Reveals First Track From Solo Album
(TeamRock Radio) Nightwish mainman Tuomas Holopainen has released "A Lifetime Of Adventure," the first track from his upcoming concept album Music Inspired By The Life And Times Of Scrooge.

He was originally inspired by the comic book character Scrooge McDuck 14 years ago, but it's taken until now to turn his ambition into a reality. The video includes shots from recording sessions along with scenes of original illustrator Don Rosa working on the album artwork.

Holopainen admits the idea of having someone dress up as McDuck "felt just a tad corny" but continues: "The hero of the video is Don Rosa himself. His presence and facial expressions always put a big smile on my face. I hope you will enjoy this adventure as much as we did." Check out the song here.





H.E.A.T Announce New Album Release
(Classic Rock) Swedish AOR outfit H.E.A.T release their fourth album, Tearing Down The Walls, on April 14 via earMusic. It's preceded by a four-track EP featuring lead single A Shot At Redemption, out on February 14.

(TeamRock Radio) Pulled Apart By Horses will tour the UK during April and May for the first time in two years, the band have confirmed. The follow-up to 2012's Tough Love is expected this year, although no release date has been confirmed.

They say: "The horses have bolted the stable! After spending most of 2013 writing the new album, we are now so close to finishing it that we can't wait a moment longer to get sweaty with you guys.

Gwyn Ashton Reveals UK Tour Dates
(The Blues Australian bluesman Gwyn Ashton has released the first dates of a UK tour planned for May. It follows a series of previously-announce shows in Wales next month, followed by a run across Europe which keeps him busy until the end of April.

Ashton last year released an EP entitled Fistful Of Blues, which followed well-received sixth LP Radiogram. Metallica Release Grammy Rehearsal Video
(hennemusic) Metallica have released video footage of their Grammy Awards rehearsals with Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang. The pairing teamed up to perform Metallica's 1988 track, "One", at the 56th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on January 26.

"One" was the third and final single from Metallica's fourth album, 1989's "...And Justice for All." The song was the band's first music video, and went on to become their first US Top 40 hit, reaching No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Metallica's "Through The Never" soundtrack was also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Recording Package category; it was beaten out by "Long Night Moon" by Austin, Texas based Americana/Texas Country band Reckless Kelly. Watch the video here.




The Broken Bells Kick Off Beatles Week On Letterman
(hennemusic) The Broken Bells kicked off Beatles week on The Late Show with David Letterman Monday night, as the show pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' groundbreaking first appearance on the "Ed Sullivan Show."

Broken Bells - the duo comprised of The Shins' James Mercer and producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) - performed The Beatles' classic "And I Love Her", complete with the added visual of drummer Ringo Starr playing along via video displayed on a vintage television set.

The Late Show is filmed at the Ed Sullivan Theater, site of the Fab Four's iconic U.S. debut on February 9, 1964. The Beatles' first "Ed Sullivan Show" appearance is hailed by many historians and critics to be one of the most important moments in music and television.

Green Day Look Back At Stoned Dookie Creation
(TeamRock Radio) Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong admits many of the key decisions that led to their breakthrough 20 years ago were made while they were high.

The band's third album Dookie was released in February 1994 and propelled them from underground outfit to world-class act in a matter of months. They were the subject of a bidding war between labels before deciding to sign with Reprise - but Armstrong tells Rolling Stone: "We were probably stoned. I've got to say that; we were always high. It was this foggy process of elimination."

Naming the album after toilet-droppings was another drug-induced choice. "It was a stoner thing, it really was," Armstrong says. "... 'Hey man, wouldn't it be funny if...'"

That carried on to commissioning artist Richie Bucher to create the artwork. "We gave the title to Richie, he was like, 'Okay.' We get it back and it's dogs exploding sh*t all over Berkeley. It was one of those impulsive moments - and we were like, 'F*** it!'"




The Virginmarys Release 'Just A Ride' Video
(Classic Rock) The Virginmarys have released a new video for their track Just A Ride. It's taken from their debut album King Of Conflict, which was released last year.

The band are currently working on the follow-up, with drummer Danny Dolan recently reporting they'd written 20 tracks and had completed demos of the first three.

The Virginmarys play this year's Sonisphere festival in July, headlined by Iron Maiden, Metallica and The Prodigy. Watch the new music video here.





Sabbath Assembly Release New Music Video
(Prog) Sabbath Assembly have released a video for their track Jehovah On Death. It's taken from their upcoming third album, Quaternity, set for launch in March.

The six-track work features vocalist Jamie Myers and percussionist Dave 'Xtian' Nuss with guests Daron Beck (Pinkish Black), Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts), Mat McNerney and Marja Kontinned (Hexvessel), Jessika Kinney (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room) and others.

The duo recently explained: "Quaternity is primarily acoustic in format, with an array of classical percussion and strings creating an entirely new sound for the band. Unlike its predecessors, it offers a majority of original material with inspiration from the Process found primarily in the lyrics." Watch the video here.

Today Matt Ragland from Nelo tells us about their song "Hometown" from their brand new self-titled album, which was released this week. Here is the story:

Do you know those moments when everything you're seeing, feeling, smelling, thinking seems to all work together to form one beautiful, complete picture? When all of your senses seem to be in harmony? That feeling of contentment that follows… That quiet comfort that reassures you and the razor-sharp focus and clarity of mind that makes you feel so very in touch with yourself? The subtle awareness that you enjoy your own thoughts and the moment-to-moment experience of just being alive? I find myself in this state of being from time to time, and it overwhelms me… in a good way. If when it happens I happen to have an instrument close by, I almost always write a song. "Hometown" pays tribute to that special state or "in-touch" world, where I can just "be." That world feels like my own kind of "internal hometown," if you will. And when I'm there, I realize that I really live for those moments.

I grew up in Dallas, TX and have a few very close friends that still live there. Sometimes when I walk up the steps to the house that I grew up in, or sit down in my parents' kitchen, or just walk around my old neighborhood passing my elementary school or some old building that as far as I know has just always been there, the memories flood my mind. And I am instantly thrown into my "internal hometown." It's almost as if life is just one big movie in my mind. So the song talks about that special, crazy, beautifully cinematic world where just being is easy and songs are made as well as my actual hometown where many of my memories were born. It's not surprising that those two worlds so often collide and then mesh to become one. "Hometown" is a celebration of when that collision occurs. It's a celebration of when the movie reel that is my life seems to play without interruption. The song asks you to be strong, bold, and to transcend the things that bring you down.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Explain Faked Super Bowl Performance
(hennemusic) The Red Hot Chili Peppers have admitted to miming their performance during the Super Bowl 48 halftime show with Bruno Mars in New Jersey on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Peppers bassist Flea posted a lengthy explanation about the band's decision to mime to their own backing tracks while frontman Anthony Kiedis sang live.

Flea had this explanation for fans, "When we were asked by the NFL and Bruno to play our song Give It Away at the Super Bowl, it was made clear to us that the vocals would be live, but the bass, drums, and guitar would be pre-recorded. I understand the NFL's stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching in the stadium and the t.v. viewers. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period.

"The Red Hot Chili Peppers stance on any sort of miming has been that we will absolutely not do it. The last time we did it (or tried to) was in the late 80's, we were thrown off of 'The Top Of the Pops' television program in the U.K. during rehearsals because we refused to mime properly, I played bass with my shoe, John played guitar atop Anthony's shoulders, and we basically had a wrestling match onstage, making a mockery of the idea that it was a real live performance.

"We mimed on one or two weird MTV shows before that and it always was a drag. We take our music playing seriously, it is a sacred thing for us, and anyone who has ever seen us in concert (like the night before the Super Bowl at the Barclays Center), knows that we play from our heart, we improvise spontaneously, take musical risks, and sweat blood at every show. We have been on the road for 31 years doing it.

"So, when this Super Bowl gig concept came up, there was a lot of confusion amongst us as whether or not we should do it, but we eventually decided, it was a surreal-like, once in a life time crazy thing to do and we would just have fun and do it. We had given this a lot of thought before agreeing to do it, and besides many a long conversation amongst ourselves, I spoke with many musician friends for whom I have the utmost respect, and they all said they would do it if asked, that it was a wild trippy thing to do, what the hell. Plus, we the RHCP all love football too and that played a big part in our decision. We decided that, with Anthony singing live, that we could still bring the spirit and freedom of what we do into the performance, and of course we played every note in the recording specially for the gig. I met and spoke with Bruno, who was a beautiful dude, a real talented musician, and we worked out something that seemed like it would be fun." Read the rest of his statement here.




Linkin Park Changing Things Up On New Album
Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda has broken his recent silence to let fans in on what the band has been working on. Shinoda posted a lengthy update on his website about their new album, which he hints will be coming this summer.

Here is what he had to say: "As many of you have already noticed, I've been away from my blog / Twitter / Instagram for a while, since we're pretty deep into the writing and recording process. I wanted to take a moment to tell you about what's going on.

"As most Linkin Park fans know, the sound of each album is usually quite different from the last. The new album is no exception. But as usual, the album's sound twists and turns as it is created, so any attempt at estimating what it sounds like today would be silly. The moment I tell you it sounds like 'X', the songs will automatically take a drastic turn and evolve into something different within a week. But what I can tell you is I'm inspired. We're inspired.

"The band is trying all kinds of things we haven't before. First of all, we're not in the same studio. All our previous albums (except MTM) were recorded at the same studio; this album is not being done there. All our previous albums were done with a producer at the helm; this album has largely been self-produced. We normally write in a organized and regimented style, recorded into the computer; this album has been the product of a mix of focused experimentation and free form jamming. We're even tracking parts to tape instead of going exclusively digital.

"I've been spending 10-12 hours a day in the studio-jamming, experimenting, writing, recording, re-writing, re-recording…searching for the sound that truly captures where we're at as a band right now. Something bold and energetic. Something with a balance between the chaos and order.

"As ever, we're digging deep to craft the best songs that will set the tone for the next step, that will draw a line between what we're doing and everything else.

Motley Crue Looking At Releasing New Music
(hennemusic) Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx says the band has no plans to issue a new album in sync with their upcoming farewell tour, but the group is considering options regarding the release of new music.

"We have music written, [but] it's not put together yet," Sixx tells 95.1 KSKY in Rapid City, South Dakota. "It's hard, to be honest with you, to spend six [or] nine months to write eleven songs - all those lyrics… everything… the vocals, the guitars, the bass, the sonics, the mixing, the mastering, the artwork… You put it out and nothing [happens], because now people cherry-pick songs.

"So we go, 'Why don't we write songs and find vehicles to get one, two or four songs to ten million people rather than eleven songs to a hundred thousand people. That's how we're thinking. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but that's how we're thinking." more on this story




Chevelle Reveal First Song From New Album
(Banana 101.5) Chevelle are back with a brand new song 'Take Out the Gunman,' which is the first single from 'La Gargola,' their new studio album due out April 1st, 2014.

Chicago rock trio Chevelle re-teamed with producer Joe Barresi for their seventh full-length studio album 'La Gargola,' which is Spanish for "The Gargoyle." Barresi also produced the band's previous effort 'Hats Off to the Bull.' The official release date is set for April 1st, and a tour in support of the album is likely to follow.

The group's previous outing with Barresi pushed them in some new directions sonically, and 'Take Out the Gunman' seems to showcase a step further in that evolution. Check out the song here.




Jack White's Paramount Records Box Sets Face Legal Challenge
(The Blues Jack White's Paramount Records box sets are the subject of legal action after another label claimed they own the release rights to the iconic firm's catalogue.

Third Man Records, owned by White, teamed up with Revenant Records last year to create The Rise & Fall Of Paramount Records, a two-volume collection spanning blues, jazz and related music originally released between 1917 and 1932.

The "Box Of Wonder" packages drew attention as they include over 800 tracks, six special vinyl discs and a host of collectable items, all presented in handmade wooden containers. The first was released last year and the second is set for launch in November.

But not-for-profit body the GHB Foundation claim they've owned the Paramount rights since 1970 - and spokesman Lars Edegan says he has paperwork to prove it.

Revenant boss Dean Blackwood has responded by telling Offbeat: "We informed the foundation we would gladly come to an agreement if they could prove ownership. To date they haven't." more.




Jimi Hendrix's Final Interview Animated In New Video
(hennemusic) The final interview given by Jimi Hendrix before his death in the fall of 1970 has been animated by PBS web series Blank On Blank. The theme of Blank On Blank's series is "famous names, lost interviews."

The interview was recorded on September 11, 1970. Hendrix's session with NME journalist Keith Allston took place a week before the guitarist died in London.

Hendrix speaks candidly on a variety of topics, including future collaborations, politics, and his contributions to music. Check out the newly animated interview here.




Metallica's Lar Ulrich Revisits Napster Debate
(TeamRock Radio) Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich tackled the question of the band's notorious lawsuit against Napster when he took part in a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything session last week.

He insisted he didn't regret launching the action that resulted in the closure of the early filesharing network, but added: "I do find it odd how big of a part of our legacy it has become to so many people, because to me it's more like a footnote."

Ulrich stated the move was never about money, saying: "People used the word 'greed' all the time, which was so bizarre. The whole thing was about one thing and one thing only - control.

"Not about the internet, not about money, not about file sharing, not about giving sh*t away for free or not, but about whose choice it was. If I wanna give my sh*t away for free, I'll give it away for free. That choice was taken away from me." more on this story




The Scorpions Cover Dio Classic For Tribute Album
(hennemusic) The Scorpions are recording a cover of the Rainbow classic, "Temple Of The King", which will be part of the upcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album.

"We are taking two days out of our tough schedule and recording that song," guitarist Matthias Jabs tells Classic Rock Revisited. Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.

The project will feature artists performing tracks from the singer's extensive catalog, including material originally released by Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. more on this story




U2's Free Song Raises More Than $3 Million For Charity
(hennemusic) U2's free download of the new song, "Invisible", has helped raise more than $3 million for the (RED) campaign. In sync with its debut during the Super Bowl 48 broadcast on Sunday, U2 offered a 24-hr free download of the track, with sponsor Bank Of America donating $1 per download to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

U2 will be continuing to support the cause, as "Invisible" is officially released for sale, with all proceeds from every iTunes download going to fight AIDS.

(RED) has already generated more than $240 million for the Global Fund since being founded in 2006 by U2 lead singer Bono and Bobby Shriver in order to drive corporate donations to the fight against AIDS. The additional funding from Bank of America will help (RED) surpass a quarter billion dollars raised. more on this story




Derek Trucks Has Been Trying To Leave Allman Brothers For Years
(The Blues Derek Trucks has revealed he'd been trying to quit the Allman Brothers Band for years, before finally confirming he'd make the break at the end of 2014.

His decision, alongside that of fellow guitarist Warren Haynes, appears to have brought about the end of the band's career on their 45th anniversary, with leader Gregg Allman confirming: "This is it - this is the end."

Trucks tells Rolling Stone: "I've been talking about it for years: not wanting to be on the road 300 days a year with kids growing up." But he adds: "There's so much love and loyalty for the band and music that it's a tough call to make. I've given my half-resignation many years in a row. Dave Lombardo Empathizes With Black Sabbath's Bill Ward
(TeamRock Radio) Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo says he's learned a harsh lesson after 30 years in the music industry. He was sidelined from the thrash giants at the beginning of 2013 after a disagreement over finances, and eventually replaced permanently by Paul Bostaph.

It's led indirectly to a friendship with estranged Black Sabbath sticksman Bill Ward, who didn't take part in his band's current reunion after saying he hadn't been offered a contract he regarded as "signable."

The thrash drummer says he can't listen to Sabbath album 13 because Ward's not there. "Just knowing a little bit of the situation, I really didn't have the interest to listen to that album," he admits. "But I will one day, eventually."

Reflecting on his career Lombardo says: "There is absolutely no friends when it comes to money. That's the number one lesson I've learned." He had more to say.




Airbourne's Joel O'Keeffe Guests In Bonafide's New Video
(Classic Rock) Swedish rising stars Bonafide return with a music video for new track Rock'n'Roll Skal, which also features Airbourne's Joel O'Keeffe, who's a big fan.

The song is taken from Bonafide's fourth album, Bombo, and sees them reinforcing their commitment to "rock'n'roll debauchery, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, marvellous guitar playing and thunderous rhythm."

They explain: "It was the fans who made us write Rock'n'Roll Skal in the first place, after he experienced being greeted with raised glasses and people screaming 'Skal!' in his face. The video features fans and fellow artists from Sweden, Australia, UK, Spain, Germany and the USA, who all sent their own clips to be edited in.

"If you don't speak Swedish at least you know one word now: 'Skal!'"

Black Stone Cherry Set New Album Release
(Classic Rock) Black Stone Cherry have confirmed their fourth album is to be called Magic Mountain, and it'll be released via Roadrunner Records on May 5th in Europe.

The southern rockers will lead the launch with a single entitled Mary Jane, due out in the coming weeks. The Kentucky four-piece say of the follow-up to 2011′s Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea:

Galahad Set Release Date For First of Three EPs
(Prog) Galahad have confirmed a February 24 release date for the first of three EPs to be delivered in 2014. Seize The Day contains a single and album version of the title track, taken from 2012 album Battle Scars, along with updated versions of two older songs.

The band explain: "21st Century Painted Lady is based upon Painted Lady, which was first recorded in the mid-1980s but has been given a major overhaul. It now includes a second verse which should have appeared on the original version but didn't.

"Bug Eye, from 1998 album Following Ghosts, has also been brought up to date for 2014. A live version of the original arrangement is also included on the EP." more on this story




Steeleye Span Release Making Of Video For Terry Pratchett Project
(Prog) Steeleye Span have shot a documentary video clip which details the making of Wintersmith, their collaboration with Discworld author Sir Terry Pratchett.

The album was released in October, featuring music by the band and readings from the Tiffany Aching books by their writer. Pratchett, who previously described Wintersmith as "subject matter completely appropriate for Steeleye," says in the clip: "When I was in my late teens, my mate Dave put on Steeleye Span at 11. It was ringing in my ears and that was it - I went to see them whenever I could. Just hearing them has helped me. The whole thing comes together and fits."

Vocalist Maddy Prior recalls: "The first time we were aware that Terry was someone who listened to our music when he was on Desert Island Discs and he chose our track Thomas The Rhymer.

"He came to some gigs after that and we've become friendly over the years. A few years ago he mentioned it would be a good project for us to do." Watch the video here.




Suede Working On New Album
(Gibson) Suede singer Brett Anderson has announced that the band is currently working on a new album, the follow up to last year's Bloodsports. "We're busy writing at the moment," Anderson said in an interview with NME.

"I'm very proud of Bloodsports, and the best thing about it is that it showed us that we can write new music, and relevant new music." In terms of when the fans can expect the new album, Brett said: "We want to carry on writing and pushing forward, so we're taking it somewhere else now. I think it'll be out next year, as we're just writing at the moment so realistically it will be next year."

Meanwhile, Suede has a very special concert coming up at the end of next month. The band are set to close the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit at Royal Albert Hall on March 30 by playing their second album Dog Man Star in full.

The concert marks the 20th anniversary of the album's release, which was the last with original guitarist Bernard Butler. As to whether Butler will be a guest at the show, Anderson says it is not very likely: "I don't think he wants to come back. He's happy doing what he's doing." more on this story







Metallica Frontman James Hetfield Surprises Guitar Center Customers
(hennemusic) Metallica frontman James Hetfield visited the Guitar Center in San Francisco recently to share some stories about himself and his career in a new video by the retail chain.

In a small room, Hetfield recounted tales of his first guitar, becoming a musician, rising to fame, and he played a few riffs during the session.

In the meantime, customers continued to shop in the store, having no idea it was Metallica's frontman playing. This past week, Metallica released their 3D feature film, "Through The Never", on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, digitally, and V.O.D. (Video On Demand). Watch the video here.




KISS Frontman Paul Stanley Adds Another Book Event
(hennemusic) KISS frontman Paul Stanley has added an April 17th stop at Warwick's in San Diego to the book signing tour for his forthcoming memoir, "Face The Music: A Life Exposed."

Due April 8, the 432-page memoir chronicles Stanley's life and rise to global success with KISS, which he co-founded in January of 1973 with bassist Gene Simmons from the ashes of the pair's previous band, Wicked Lester.

The book will feature rare photographs and candid memories about Stanley's wild life with KISS. Two days after the book is published, KISS will be inducted into the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York, along with Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. Gibson Commemorates Fed Raids with New Guitar Series
(Gibson) As many of you might remember, Gibson was the object of two separate raids by federal agents in 2009 and 2011, during which wood was confiscated.

It was claimed that Gibson didn't exercise due care in importing wood used for its guitars. After a resolution was reached, the wood was returned and used to create a new line of guitars. "We thought we would celebrate getting past that very difficult period," Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz told NewsChannel 5 in Nashville.

Mr. Juszkiewicz said that a limited series of guitars has been created as a way to say thank you to the customers who supported the company during those difficult times. The Government Series II features four of Gibson's most popular models: The Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V, and the Explorer.

The rosewood fingerboard on these guitars is made from the confiscated wood, and each guitar is adorned with the Government Series logo which features a bald eagle with its talons wrapped around a Gibson guitar neck, and each guitar comes with a very special Certificate of Authenticity.

Singled Out: The Tripping Souls Share The Story Behind The Riverbed
Today Paul Makris from The Tripping Souls tells us about the song "The Riverbed," one of the fan favorites from their group's 2013 self-titled "The Tripping Souls" release. Here is the story:

So much has happened for The Tripping Souls since we released our self titled, debut CD last March. It's been incredibly well received being added to the playlists of stations all around the US. We've also had way too much fun playing some incredible gigs; opening for Deer Tick at the Rock On Foundation's Sneaker's and Speakers Festival, playing the IPO - Boston Festival, and opening for the very hip, L.A. indie swing band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy for an audience of over 800. We released a single this past fall, called Narrow Road, which was featured on the UK's JosieJo Show. We've also been in the studio working on our forthcoming full length CD, scheduled to be released in 2014. And last but not least, have met and gotten to know a bunch of really cool fans… and that's been incredible! We're especially grateful for all the support.

And even with the focus of the EP tracks, "Stand Back" and "Place That I Love", I still get a number of people asking me what "The Riverbed" is all about! So, here's the story…

A couple years ago, a friend of mine asked me if I'd be interested in going to Africa with him. Considering his wife was standing next to him when he asked, of course I thought it was a trick question. And I certainly wasn't going to get into the middle of that! After convincing me otherwise, I figured it was safe to answer. Always up for an adventure and having been through a couple of pretty tough years personally, my response was, "When do we leave?" A few months later we were off to Tanzania.

Once there, we hopped in a single prop plane and flew west for about three hours. We landed on a dirt runway in a remote region, tossed our backpacks in the back of a jeep, and it began. To say the trip was incredible is a vast understatement. For me, it was more about checking out for a while, unplugging, reacquainting myself with the universe, and really, in somewhat of a spiritual way… more an introspective about what's truly important in this world… we had our clothes in the backpacks and really nothing else. And we didn't need anything else. Just food, shelter, nature. We met locals who had what many here in the U.S. might call, nothing. Barely a roof over their head and food, certainly, no big bank accounts or fancy cars. I still can't get over how happy they were, so friendly and always smiling.

We spend a few days in camps in various regions. The last night in the first camp we were in was so different, though. The camp was on the bank of a river. As this was dry season, the riverbed (hence, the name of the song) was bone dry. The last night we were there, we had dinner in the riverbed by a huge bonfire with torches all around (to keep any wild life away). With just a handful of people in camp, and being in an environment like that, we got to know the others pretty well, very quickly. So naturally, embracing the company of our new friends, the wine started to flow…! In fact, the lyrics "people dancing, people laughing" was no exaggeration. As more wine flowed the numbers started to dwindle (my friend was one of the first to head back to our hut!). Before I knew it, and several bottles of wine later (we stopped counting somewhere around 7…) there were four of us left in the middle of the African wilderness, (lions roaring in the distance), full of wine, with the bonfire barely alive, still sharing some pretty deep thoughts with each other. At that point, it hit me just how rare and very real that night was.

When I got back to the States, I shared this story with my close circle, and that's where the idea and lyrics came from, telling the story of a night I'll never forget. When I brought the demo into the studio (Zippah Studios in Boston), I told Brian (Charles) the story of how the song came about, and how I wanted to try to convey that feeling through the sound. Brian and I think a lot alike in terms of approach (recording through his vintage equipment, etc.). So as expected, he totally got what I was trying to do and captured my vision of what the song should sound like as we laid the tracks down. Brian's so good to work with! And as literal some of the lyrics in the song might seem, it's really about the spirit of that night on the riverbed. It's one I'll never forget.

By the way, I still stay in touch with a few of the people who were on the riverbed that night.
