Little Richard Is Done With Performing
(Classic Rock) Rock'n'roll icon Little Richard feels he's more or less retired at the age of 80, admitting he has no interest in working any longer. He hasn't hit the stage since June 2012, when he stopped a performance at the Howard Theatre in Washington and said to the crowd: "Jesus, please help me – I can't hardly breathe. It's horrible."

He's kept a low profile for the past year, and now he says that's likely to continue. Richard tells Rolling Stone, via WENN, "I am done, in a sense, because I don't feel like doing anything right now.

"I think my legacy should be that when I started in show business there wasn't no such thing as rock'n'roll. When I started with Tutti Frutti, that's when rock really started rocking." more on this story

Nine Inch Nails Release Tour Documentary
(Classic Rock) Nine Inch Nails have released a tour documentary video, telling the story of the lead-up to the band's first show since Trent Reznor reactivated the project.

In February he announced NIN were coming back with new album Hesitation Marks. But the road from recording to performing was a bumpy one – and in part one of the chronicle, below, there's plenty of thrills and spills as Reznor and his band gear up for their appearance at Fuji Rocks in Japan earlier this year.

The mainman explains what he wants to achieve with the live show: "My goal is that it's almost a film where it starts off one way and, not only musically but visually, evolves into something that keeps your attention – makes it feel like a journey from one place to another." Check out the documentary.

Ol Drake Quits Evile
(TeamRock Radio) Ol Drake has quit Evile, saying it's impossible to enjoy a normal life while being part of the band. The guitarist reveals he's been considering his position for some time, before deciding to bow out of the thrash outfit he co-formed in 2004 out of the ashes of a Metallica covers band.

Drake says: "I've had some of the best times of my life in the past 15 years, and met some amazing and fascinating people. I've had the huge honour to play a part in so many things I'd never have dreamed of – paying tribute to Dimebag in Metal Hammer; supporting Megadeth, Exodus and many of the bands I grew up listening to; touring places in the world I'd never have got to see."

But he continues: "In my opinion, the music business for a band of our genre and level determines a very unrealistic way of life. I find it difficult to make a living and have a normal life." Read more from Drake here.

Avenged Sevenfold Top The Album Charts
(TeamRock Radio) Avenged Sevenfold have taken rock and metal to the number one in the UK charts with their latest album Hail To The King. It was confirmed as the best-selling record of the week last night, beating pop starlet Naughty Boy to the coveted top spot.

TeamRock Radio and Metal Hammer Magazine backed A7X all the way in the run-up to the album's release. It's their first with no input from late drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan, who died in 2009 but had already contributed to 2010's Nightmare. He's been replaced by Arin Ilejay.

"It's been a hell of a ride thus far, Having our first number one album in the UK is a monumental achievement for our fans and us," Guitarist Zacky Vengeance said last night. "I remember playing the 100 Club to prove to our fans we were willing to start from the ground up to earn their respect."

And his message to followers was: "Thank you for putting heavy metal back on the throne. We look forward to growing old with you."

Clash's Mick Jones Explains The Need For A New Box Set
(hennemusic) Clash guitarist Mick Jones says in a new interview that the new 12-disc box set, "Sound System" (due September 9), will be the band's final reissue project.

"I'm not even thinking about any more Clash releases," Jones tells Rolling Stone while he also explained the need for an updated box set. "This is it for me, and I say that with an exclamation mark."

"For me, it was a chance to get the music remastered," says the guitarist. "I knew that some of the tapes were getting rotten. There have been other remasters lately, but in the past few years the technology has really increased. I mean, I buy other peoples' records – mostly old recordings – and I always ask if it's been remastered.

"I think we'll be hearing more than we heard before, hopefully. That's pretty much what we managed to do with the records. So the box set comes with nearly 99 percent of the Clash's recorded work."

"I listened to everything," Jones continued. "It's taken about three years, though I obviously wasn't working on it all that time. But it took three years from its inception until completion. At first, the record company just wanted some reissues. But I looked at is as a chance to get all the stuff out. Then I suggested a box." more on this story

Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx Doesn't Want Fans To Miss Hidden Gems
Motley Crue star Nikki Sixx took to his Facebook page on Friday (August 30th) to share with his fans his views about fans purchasing single songs over entire albums and how fans are missing out if they only opt for the radio singles.

He tells fans, "When I was scrounging through record shops as a kid you usually (unless you just shopped for single's) bought the whole album. I always fell deeper in love with the band because 'ALL' their songs spoke to me. Of course some jumped out at you right away while other's grew on you but you didn't skip any songs, you would listen from top to bottom over and over again.

"When I started making albums I alway believed the WHOLE album was the adventure. Of course there is the lead single for radio but when did THAT become the whole experience?

I talk to more and more people everyday who tell me they only buy singles now. iTunes hasn't helped for that of course. We have asked them many times to bundle our album as one download so fans wouldn't cherry pick the hits and miss the hidden gems but its nots part of their business model. I love iTunes and buy music almost daily from it but it still frustrates me. I just wish more people clicked 'BUY ALBUM'.

"Maybe I am old fashioned in how I believe music should be listened to but I refuse to ever buy just a bands single. I always buy the WHOLE album. I encourage you to do the same. Tecnology may have changed but the fact that a band makes a WHOLE album for you hasn't. Dig deep and I promise you, you will fall deeper in love with the artist than you ever could only listening to one song."

Sixx then asked his fans to share their thoughts about the issue. As of Sunday night, over 5000 fans have shared their opinion. You can read the responses here.

Paul McCartney Reveals 'New' Album Details
(Gibson) Paul McCartney has posted a new track, "New," on YouTube and issued details of a brand new album, which will also be called New. The "New" single is produced by Mark Ronson. Other collaborators include Adele producer Paul Epworth and Ethan Johns, who has previously worked with Kings Of Leon.

The New album is released on October 14 (15th in the U.S.), and its iTunes pre-order page confirms that the album contains 14 tracks. Speaking about one of the songs they had recorded earlier this year, a ballad titled
"Hosannah," Ethan Johns told Rolling Stone magazine, "The first day we had was remarkable. He walked in with this incredible song, we threw up a couple of microphones and within four hours we had this great track. I think we did an edit between the first two takes."

"It had an incredible feel – a really evocative piece of music. A very interesting lyric, and the performance was great. Then we started to experiment with it, and I put a bunch of psychedelic strangeness on it."

"The record is very varied. I worked with four producers and each of them brought something different," say McCartney.

Haken's New Album Streaming In Full Online
(Prog) Prog Magazine have premiered Haken's third album, The Mountain, with a full album stream. The album is being released in the UK today and will be released in North American on September 17th.

Guitarist-keyboardist Richard Henshall says that this follow-up album to 2011′s Visions "ranges from the delicate to the brutal with everything in between."

"It's taken a huge amount of effort to get the band to where it is today – and yet it still feels like the journey is just beginning," He explains. "To us, The Mountain is symbolic of our journey as a band, but also reflects the wider trials and tribulations of life.

"Lyrically we've done a lot of soul searching which has given the album an emotional depth that we're sure listeners will really relate to, whatever personal mountain they're climbing.

"Musically, the new songs feel rawer and more emotional than anything we've created in the past. We've really pushed ourselves in all areas and we truly believe this album is a step up from any of our previous work." Check out the album stream here.

Grohl Didn't Think Nirvana Would Follow-Up Nevermind
(Gibson) Dave Grohl has told The Sun newspaper in the U.K. that he didn't think Nirvana would make another record after Nevermind. Grohl says he was "surprised and relieved" when Kurt Cobain came to him with ideas for a follow up.

Speaking of how he came together with bandmates Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in 1992, Grohl admitted, "A lot of weird s**t went down after Nevermind, so I wasn't sure there'd be another record.

"Even though all of a sudden the world was at our feet and we had bands like U2 and Guns N'Roses asking us to do a stadium tour, Kurt started doing a lot of drugs and there was a lot of tension because of business stuff and money. Krist and Kurt came to my house to record a split single with The Jesus Lizard and I remember Kurt started to play the song "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle." And it was at that point I thought, 'We're going to make another Nirvana record!' I was surprised and relieved when Kurt said he had a new song because when Nevermind happened, we stopped everything and went into hiding - it kinda fractured the band."

Grohl adds: "In Utero isn't too far off what Kurt was doing before [Nirvana's debut] Bleach. It wasn't a contrived change of direction from Nevermind but the world around the band had changed and Kurt had a hard time processing a lot and we were focussing on the instrumentation."

Bass player Krist Novosleic added: "Everyone thought we'd make a mainstream record, that we'd sell out, but we put out a record after Nevermind and it's a different record. It's darker and has an edge." more on this story

Wilko Johnson Hopes For His Wife's Bravery At The End
(Classic Rock) Wilko Johnson hopes he'll be as brave as his late wife when his terminal cancer finally kills him. in January he revealed he had an inoperable tumour on his pancreas, that he'd refused chemotherapy and would instead try to enjoy the time he had left.

His decision led to a farewell tour which was cut short due to another illness – but since then the former Dr Feelgood guitarist has hit the road once more. However, he's aware time is ticking. And when the end comes he'll be thinking about his wife, Irene Knight, who died of cancer in 2004. He created a JustGiving page in her memory and it's still open for donations.

"I know what it's like to lose someone you love. It's a terrible feeling – it's so much worse for my friends and family than for me," He says. "When my wife was dying, that was despair. I'm still in love with her. The most painful thing in my life is that she's gone. Seeing her wasting away… she was so brave and never complained. She was a wonderful person.

"I hope I can live up to her example." more on this story

Pat Travers Heading Across The Pond For Fall Tour
(Classic Rock) Pat Travers will tour the UK in October in support of latest album Can Do, which was released in July. The Canadian axeman says he's harked back to his 70s and 80s eras on the record.

"When I was contacted by Frontiers they asked me if I could create some music reminiscent of my earlier albums," He explains. "What made those records different was that I was allowed the luxury of spending some time in the studio without any outside influences. That's when I could get really creative.

"Frontiers let me have the time I needed to work on the songs and production. The beginning of 2012 was a particularly creative period for me, and I believe I've written some of my best material ever for Can Do."

Check out an album preview and the tour dates here.

Madina Lake To Stream Fairwell Shows Online
(TeamRock Radio) Madina Lake have announced they'll play a set of online farewell shows to tie in with their last-ever UK tour. They've decided to call it a day – but not before they thank British fans for their support.

The first half-hour show will be streamed live from their Attic studio on September 26 at 1am BST. The band say: "After 8 years, Madina Lake is closing its borders.

"From the onset, our ambition was to create a mythology that would unravel with each record creating a bridge to the next and fulfilling the cycle with World War III.

"It was a naive proposition, but as the town grew in population, the collective imaginations vitalised it through the end." They add, "We will do a series of performances in the Attic, taking requests in advance on Facebook and Twitter #MLFarewellUK." More details on the stream and the tour dates.

Cyril Neville Compares New Album To Musical Gumbo
(The Blues Cyril Neville describes his upcoming album "Magic Honey" as "musical gumbo." The 64-year-old percussionist and vocalist is enjoying a new lease of life with supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood – but he's still found time to put together a 12-track solo record he believes will keep listeners guessing.

He says of the effort, "I'm extremely proud of this album. It's a tasteful, well-cooked musical gumbo that I think will be pleasing to the palates of music lovers.

"Making it was a spiritual event; we approached it like it was an important gig we were playing. All the tracks are first takes. The atmosphere was just that electric."

Neville was joined for recording sessions by 'Mean' Willie Green on drums, Craston Clements on guitar, Carl Dufrene on bass and Norman Caesar on keys, while producer David Z worked his own magic. more on this story

Duff McKagan and Jeff Angell Talk Egos and Walking Papers
(Radio.com) "I think that 'blues' is a valid description," singer Jeff Angell says of his band, Walking Papers. "You can find blues and soul in hip-hop or metal or even electronic music. That's the key ingredient for all good music. But people can hear the term 'blues' and put it in a little compartment."

So, if you hear the term "blues-rock" in reference to this band's self-titled debut (out now), it's worth noting that they don't sound like Eric Clapton or B.B. King. Their sound is closer to the dustier, warped blues of Tom Waits, or Screaming Trees.

As it happens, their drummer Barrett Martin used to be a member of the latter, as well as another classic Seattle band, Mad Season, which also featured Alice In Chains' late singer Layne Staley and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam – who guests on the album, and has contributed to records by R.E.M., Queens Of The Stone Age and Stone Temple Pilots.

Their bass player, Duff McKagan, has also played in a few bands prior to this as well. He's the frontman of Loaded, and a former member of the punk bands 10 Minute Warning and the Fartz. He also spent time with hard rocker Neurotic Outsiders and Velvet Revolver. And, oh yeah, he's a Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer as a member of Guns N Roses.

"I've learned my lessons with humility and egos," Angell told Radio.com, in references to the singers his fellow bandmates have worked with like Axl Rose, Mark Lanegan and Layne Staley. "I'm just going up there to make the best music possible with the best players that I know. I'm just as big of a fan of these guys and these records as anyone who comes to see us play. I feel like I've got the best job in the world. I think it would be awkward if I was trying to imitate those [other singers]."

McKagan agreed, "We're all fans of each other's music."

Indeed, he's been a fan of Angell's for a long time. He said that he saw the singer in 2000 as part of his then-band Post-Stardom Depression — "Who should have been the biggest band in the world," McKagan said as Angell looked on smiling – and has wanted to work with him ever since. He suggested Angell for the singer gig in Velvet Revlover, but they ended up going with a more famous guy named Scott Weiland (perhaps, you've heard of him?). Though Angell may have been a better choice in retrospect. more on this story

Moby and Wayne Coyne Go Mariachi For 'Perfect Life'
(Gibson) Techno pioneer Moby and his Oklahoma psychedelic alternative rocker friend Wayne Coyne (of the Flaming Lips) have filmed a video for the song "Perfect Life" in LA, featuring the lads dressed up as Mexican mariachi band members.

The newly released teaser features Moby, Coyne and an eclectic cast of extras performing an acoustic version of the song as the sun goes down at the end of a beautifully sunny Californian day.

Moby comments on the impromptu teaser; "A few weeks ago Wayne and I spent the day making a video for The Perfect Life. then at the end of the day we broke out an acoustic guitar and gathered all of the extras on a rooftop overlooking L.A and sang an unrehearsed, impromptu version of the song. Please keep in mind we had no idea what we were doing."

The casting call issued a few weeks ago ahead of the video shoot hinted at a diverse range of characters including "S&M gimp rhythmic gymnast," "eight roller-skating ghosts," "12 goth choir members," "2 obese bearded bikers in red speedos," "a punk rock brass brand" and "a drunk king: guy with beard age 35-50." more on this story
