Metallica Tribute Cliff Burton With Free Concert Download

Burton died in a September 27, 1986 tour bus accident in Sweden while Metallica were on a European trek to promote their "Master Of Puppets" album.

The group posted a photo of Burton (see above), and followed that up with a second message: "While you're remembering Cliff on the 26th anniversary of his passing, give a listen to this free download from the 'Ride the Lightning' tour." more on this story

Axl Rose's Ex-Wife Also Going After Artist
(TMZ) They're divorced, but Axl Rose's ex-wife still has the Guns 'N Roses singer's back -- insisting Axl NEVER tagged her house with vengeful graffiti ... and now, she's also going after the artist behind the allegations.

Axl's ex Erin Everly just sent a cease and desist letter to L.A. photographer Laura London, reiterating what Axl said in his own cease and desist letter to the artist -- Axl did NOT spray paint his wife's garage door with the message "Sweet Child o' DIE."
In the letter, Erin's attorney writes, "Ms. Everly unequivocally denies that Axl Rose ever painted those statements on her garage door."

London claims she took the photograph of the vandalized garage door back when she was Axl's neighbor many years ago. According to London, Axl had spray painted the message during a fight with Everly.

London is currently displaying the photograph in an exhibit in Downtown L.A. called "Once Upon a Time ... Axl Rose Was My Neighor."

Sources close to Everly tells us ... neighborhood kids were responsible for the damage, NOT Axl. more on this story

Tommy Lee Sued Over Stunt
(TMZ) The man who claims he invented Tommy Lee's roller coaster drum solo stunt has kept his word -- officially following through on a promise to SUE the Motley Crue drummer ... for allegedly jacking his design.

L.A. based engineer Scott King filed the lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming he approached Lee back in 1991 with an initial design for a drum-roller coaster for his concerts ... and Lee jacked it for Motley Crue's 2011 tour.

Now King is suing Lee for stealing his idea -- demanding at least $400,000 in damages. TMZ broke the story ... King sent Lee a warning shot last month -- in the form of a legal letter -- promising to sue if Lee didn't pay up. Well, Lee didn't pay up. more on this story

Radiohead Fans Upset Over Ticket Policy
(Classic Rock) Radiohead have slammed by fans who have fallen victim to what they say is an unfair ticket policy.

UK shows are being sold on a paperless ticket basis in an attempt to prevent touts from profiteering by selling passes on at inflated prices.

Ticketmaster's system allows fans to purchase in advance then gain access to the venue by arriving on the night with the card used to pay and additional ID. It operates a strict no-refund policy – so if you can't make it, no one can go in your place. The policy has also confounded people who bought tickets for someone else as a present. more on this story

Kurt Cobain's Suicide Note Quote Shocked Neil Young
(Classic Rock) Neil Young has admitted Kurt Cobain's suicide note, in which the Nirvana star quoted lyrics from the Canadian's song Hey Hey My My (Into the Black), "f***ed with" him.

Cobain shot himself in 1994 after failing to deal with the trappings of success. A piece of paper found by his body included the words "It's better to burn out than to fade away."

On hearing the tragic musician had quoted the line from his 1979 track, Young says he was deeply shaken. In his autobiography Waging Heavy Peace he writes: "When he died and left that note, it struck a deep chord inside of me. It f***ed with me.

"I, coincidentally, had been trying to reach him. I wanted to talk to him. Tell him only to play when he felt like it." more on this story

B Sides

Singled Out: Flymore
Today Russian Nu metalers Flymore's lead singer Max "Frozt" Morozov tells us about their song "Nothing Personal" from their album "Millennium IV V". Here is the story:

Flymore feel nu metal lyrics are not an antagonistic struggle with the outer world, as it is in metal music in general but, rather are about an internal conflict. The most difficult thing is to resolve the conflict within oneself.

Animals live their life with instincts to preserve a whelp; a seal will grind sagebrush in -58 degrees Fahrenheit day after day for it to be able to find nutrition. And a seal cannot move to the south and send its little ones to kindergarten and create something inspiring. But a seal is not suffering from this and does not dream to make its world better. The Human being can choose to change his life, but this power could turn to be a punishment when we cannot choose between our own contradictions.

Our songs, as a rule, reflect our own sufferings and it's quite a serious task to decide then what symbols to use in a supporting music video.
We are sure the infighting that destroys from the inside must be described as clumsy, not good, not pretty, ugly and ruthless and that's why the band wanted a hero like this for the video of "Nothing Personal."

No doubt, an unrequited love is the most difficult of all internal conflicts. That is why the songs hero suffers from Love. The two are like Quasimodo and Esmeralda. He is ugly and she does not love him but she did not reject him forthright, causing him to live in pain. He hunts for his dream by any means necessary; like a hunter for his victim. But that living love was the only reason of all his existence, without it the maniac can't be free, he is just bound by his perplexity.

Please check out the video for "Nothing Personal" to see this story acted out. We survived some very intense conditions to make it but, it was a two days fun and we are happy with the result.

If you're still curious you can see this story as a part of our documentary "Flymore: Live in Minsk" on our YouTube channel. See you there!

Iron Maiden Looking Forward To Download
(hennemusic) Iron Maiden recently announced that they will headline the 2013 Download Festival on Saturday, June 15.

In part two of a new series of sessions with Metal Hammer magazine, Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson speaks about the band's upcoming appearance at the 2013 event.

"There's only a few bands, really, that can make a big fuss when you go to a place like [Donington]," says Dickinson. "Partly, it's what they're doing. If a band's been doing festivals over and over and over again – every summer they come around – 'oh, it's them again.' You lose a little bit of that excitement. It's a neat trick if you can manage to keep the level of excitement up. In part, I think it's because we're doing this set, as well, so it is a historic set, it is a fantastic stage set. Everybody's seen the setlist; everybody's read the reviews; everybody's got to see it in the flesh." Watch it here.

'IN YOUR DREAMS-STEVIE NICKS' DOCUMENTARY SCHEDULED TO PREMIERE:

Music Collaborator, Documentarian and Former Eurythmics Mastermind Dave Stewart Reveals Intimate Portrait of Grammy Winning Legend

Rock legend Stevie Nicks in collaboration with musical wizard Dave Stewart have co-produced and co-directed "In Your Dreams - Stevie Nicks" a documentary portrait of the illusive Nicks as they embark on a musical journey to write and record the critically acclaimed album "In Your Dreams". The film will premiere at the 35th International Hamptons Film Festival on Sunday October 7th and at the 20th annual Mill Valley Film Festival on Friday, October 12th which has already sold out.
Nicks, a multi Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, lead singer and emotional catalyst and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac and one of the most recognizable female rock stars and revered songwriters in the world, allowed cameras into her home as she holed up in a magical old mansion high atop the hills of Los Angeles with Stewart and a wild cast of characters. The vibrant documentary tracks the year (2010) which Nicks calls "the best year of my life". The result is a rare study of a fascinating artist on par with D. A. Pennebaker's classic Dylan documentary "Don't Look Back" or Madonna's notorious "Truth or Dare."
Stewart and Nicks, co-directors of the film also co-wrote many of the songs on "In Your Dreams". The inner life of the legendary Nicks has by her design long been kept at a distance from the public. We learn in "Dreams" that her world features, costume parties, joyous dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations and revealing songwriting and recording sessions all of which are captured on film. Also cameos by Edgar Allan Poe, Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon, a massive white stallion in the backyard, owls and naturally a few vampires who appear in several "home movie" style music videos.
Along with tracking the Nicks/Stewart creative partnership, "In Your Dreams" includes plenty of other cinematic payoffs including rare never before seen personal scrapbook stills from Nicks' childhood and family life, and a wealth of candid backstage and performance shots taken over the last 35 years.
Nicks, who has sold millions of records as a solo artist, writer of such iconic songs as "Landslide", "Gold Dust Woman" and "Edge of 17" is regularly sited by stars as diverse as Taylor Swift, Kid Rock, Courtney Love, Sheryl Crow, The Dixie Chicks and John Mayer as an iconic favorite and heroine and is a continuous inspiration to the world's top fashion designers.

Beach Boys Reunion Ends In Dispute
(CBS Local) Just as the reunited Beach Boys are wrapped their 50th anniversary reunion tour this week in London, band members are feuding over the future of said reunion tour. Firing back at Mike Love's new tour dates without Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks, Jardine is urging fans to sign an online petition to Love.

The petition, which currently has nearly 2,000 signatures after a few days, was started by a fan and promoted by Jardine on his official Facebook. The petition reads as follows: "In order to preserve the validity of "The Beach Boys" as a whole, and not as a "money saving, stripped down version" that only contains 1 original member, and 1 member that joined in 1965, we ask you to re-instate the 3 other members to the touring group for your final years performing. It's the right thing to do, and it's what the fans want!"

Jardine is not the only Beach Boy to express his unhappiness with the reunion's end. "I'm disappointed and can't understand why he [Love] doesn't want to tour with Al, David and me," Brian Wilson recently said. "We are out here having so much fun. Tower of Power Star Needs Help With Cancer Battle

Conte was diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago and is also an insulin-dependant diabetic and the band have updated fans on how they can help Conte in his fight.

Tower of Power are asking for donations to cover Conte's medical expenses including expensive medication. They report that he is responding well to the treatment and set up a Paypal donation link which they say 100% of the money collected will go to his medical expenses.

Conte had this message for fans: Around the beginning of July I took some routine blood tests to check my diabetes and doctors discovered that I had abnormal white blood cell counts. I was hospitalized for 3 days in LA and had to undergo 2 bone marrow biopsies, an ultrasound of my liver and spleen and lots of blood tests. It was determined that I had leukemia. They put me on a medicine called Imatinib 400mg. I have been on it for about 6 weeks and can tolerate the side effects. It has sent my blood levels back to normal for the this period of time. The meds are very expensive but the good news is that I can stay alive as long as I continue taking them. I don't have health insurance because of being diabetic. I am starting to get some help from some of my friends to get me through these hard times. I appreciate any help given. Read more and donate here.

Steven Van Zandt Reuniting The Rascals
Steven Van Zandt is calling on fans to help him organize a reunion of The Rascal's original lineup for the first time in 40 years for "Once Upon A Dream," a concert/theatrical event produced and directed by Steven Van Zandt and lighting/projection wizard Marc Brickman.

Van Zandt set up a Kickstarter campaign, which had 144 backers at press time, to help fund the project which is set to debut at the The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, December 13th, 14th, and 15th.

Steven Van Zandt had this to say: "To do justice to the Rascals importance, I've written a show for them that is just as unique as they are. It's called "Once Upon a Dream". It's a combination of a Rock Concert and a Broadway show that will include their own live performance by the original four Rascals - Felix, Eddie, Dino, Gene, and be complimented by filmed segments and news footage and will be a show that they can take all over the country.... The show will be an uplifting inspiration for you fans that have been waiting all these years, praying for a Rascals comeback, and those of you who are younger will get a real taste of the '60's you missed the first time around. Me and Marc have invested our time, money, and blood these last few years for this idea and now we need you to bring it home. Not one dollar that is contributed will go into anyone's pocket, or be commissioned in any way, every dollar will go into the production making it as good as it can be, as great as the Rascals deserve....So that's it. The Rascals are coming back. We have been looking for other investors but nobody has any vision anymore. Frankly nobody believes in this dream except me, Marc, Peter and you. The production will be as big as you make it. On behalf of the Rascals Thank you." You can learn more on the Kickstarter page.

(Classic Rock) Steve Howe says classic-era Yes members Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman couldn't be there now because they don't want to commit to what the band believes it must do. And he sees no contradiction in Asia having done nothing while vocalist John Wetton was too ill with addiction issues to take part, while Yes replaced frontman Anderson – and his replacement – when they suffered sickness.

He feels Anderson and Wakeman did not share Yes's commitment to playing material from all eras of their 44-year career. "For Yes to evolve we had to have people who were committed to it, to warrant a position in the band. If you come in and say, 'I play the drums but in Yes I'm going to play the bongos,' we would say 'But we want a drummer.'," Howe tells Classic Rock Revisited.

"You've got to be able to provide the full story. We don't just look at little pockets when certain people were in the group. We look at the group as a whole." He had more to say about that and what's different with Asia.

Singled Out: Six60
New Zealand's Six60 kick off their North American tour next week and to celebrate we asked frontman Matiu to tell us about their latest single "Forever" from their self-titled debut. Here is the story:

We come to you from a small hotel room in Melbourne, Australia where this coming weekend will see us bring a close the first leg of our World tour (we have just toured New Zealand and Australia and the next leg is UK and Europe, then finally USA and Canada).

Its crazy how fast things have moved in the last 2-3 years. From playing flat parties and small bars in Dunedin, to having three sold out shows in London. We couldn't be more excited about our future in music, and our latest single "Forever" is the perfect representation of where we stand right now, and the journey we have been on.

Marlon (synth player) and I (Matiu – lead singer) had planned to get together and share some new demos. After running through the first few (not good enough to remember) we started to question whether or not anything would eventuate, until Marlon played me something. I remember think that this was the worst crap I had ever heard! But somewhere in the mix of this rubbish was a bridge section that immediately made us Feel. Our eyes lit up and we knew we had something.

From there is was a sh*t fight to try and turn this small section in to a song. We tried everything - epic synth lines to heavy rock chords to side chaining and nothing seemed to work. That was until Eli (drummer) suggested we pick up the acoustic guitar and pluck the progression. its weird how people can listen to the same thing but hear something completely different.

From there the lyrics came easily. The music itself made me feel like we had created something that is our own. Something that we can call Six60, so the word 'Forever' came to mind. I started to think about friendships and relationships, but also, our trials and triumphs as a band. Along with that, we wanted make a statement, that we are here to stay and that we are going to do everything in our power to get to where we want to be.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself, learn more about the album and see if they will be rocking in a town near you right here!

"The booze, my lifestyle, this woman I'd been with since I was 16 – I've never been that f***ing broken. I was seriously going to finish it."

He reveals he'd had a drink problem for over a decade, and faced the end of his relationship with spouse Kelly which had lasted twice as long. "There was a point where she wanted to experience life without me," he reflects. "That was the moment I feared in life the most." more on this story

Motley Crue's Battle For Home Sweet Home
(hennemusic) Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx regularly spends time on his syndicated radio show, Sixx Sense, talking about touring, life on the road, and the group's history; recently, Nikki revealed the struggles the band endured in trying to release "Home Sweet Home."

"Our record company back in the day, Elektra Records, we turned in [the 1983 album] 'Shout At The Devil' and they rejected the album," explained the bassist. "They said they didn't like it, it didn't sound like [1981's] 'Too Fast For Love', we changed the logo, we changed our look. And so we said, 'Fine. Then we'll go to another record company.'"

"So [Elektra] put it out [after all], and it sold four million copies," continued Nikki. "Elektra was about to go bankrupt at the time, and that saved their ass. And then when our next record [1985's 'Theatre Of Pain'] got turned in, with 'Home Sweet Home' on it, they rejected that album. They said, 'This is horrible, and you have to take that song off the record. You guys aren't a ballad band.' So we did the same thing." more on this story

Singled Out: The Jerzey Street Band
Hey folks... This is Dave Wrobel from The Jerzey Street Band and I have been asked to tell the story behind our single, Pale Blue River...

I wrote this Song quite some time ago when I was working on a Demo and I had two days rehearsal with a Band of musicians that I didn't know and two Days booked in the Studio...

Anyway, we recorded and track called "Tombstone World" and one called "Landing" and then we ran out of time and Money so Pale Blue River was never recorded.... And we had pushed the time that much that we couldn't mix the two that had been recorded...

A very productive project I'm sure you'll agree..

So, Pale Blue River was the first song I presented at the very first Jerzey Street Band rehearsal.. In fact, we didn't have a name... We blasted through a couple of songs and went outside for a break and I said "we need a name" and then my brother Neil pointed at the Jerzey Street sign and said what about......... The Jerzey Street Band... Exciting huh? I don't know of many Bands that settled on the very first Band Name suggestion.....

Okay, the Song.........

Having spent much of my earlier life growing up in the South Pacific on the Island of Papua New Guinea and taking long holidays travelling to Australia, America and all kinds of wonderful places, I was certainly set up to be a BMX riding, Skateboarding, Beach Running Mall Rat... Haha, well not quite but I was cultured in a way that never prepared me for life in the Grey and Gloomy industrial town of Oldham, Lancashire....

The reason for this upbringing was due to my Father's work commitments and when we finally came back to England he continued to travel and pursued his Job in the Middle East...

One night, just out of College while sitting out the back of my Parent's Home cradling my Guitar and sipping a Cold Beer I got to thinking about where I was in reality and where I was in my head ... To describe the two as unrelated would be an understatement and even though I had been in England for a substantial amount of time I identified myself as uprooted and I felt that I just didn't belong where I was... That is when I thought of the line "It's like this World was mine to roam".....

It was the first time I had really sat back and compared my childhood to my progressing adult life and the two didn't make any sense to me and in fact brought an intense feeling of sadness for a few reasons... I missed my Dad, I felt sorry for my Mum because her husband was miles away and I just missed the life that I knew and identified with...

The Chords came quickly because I had the melody already going and I started to sing Rivers, Blue Rivers, Pale Blue Rivers, Pale Blue Rivers Running Down...

With the lyrics in the verse I was trying to express the feeling of the reality that was in the small Northern English Town "Never thought I'd make it back here don't you know"... And the reality that I really felt in my mind "Jumped this Train about a mile from Mexico"... In my head that is what I should've been doing...

It's a story of what actually is, and how the Character(me) felt life should be....

The last Verse says "I've got aching heels and a pain I can't describe, but I feel like I've been lifted" and then the final Bridge "Pale Blue Rivers running down, got to make it out of this Town".... Got to move, my feet are hurting but there is a fire burning inside I need to keep moving... Got to get the hell out of this place... I'm too uprooted

The lyrics in the Chorus were dedicated to my Dad... I'm going crazy here but "we're all crazy too" I guess we're all in it together... I started to feel positive and I felt a great pride and I saw my Dad as a river.... Unstoppable, pure and fast and I began to make more sense of the initial confusion...

The Song was a bit of a journey for me and it made me realise that I should think less about what I feel I've lost and more about what I have gained in the process... Also, it made me notice that my Parents had sacrificed much more than I ever had in order to keep me safe and from that I tried to look forward and not back...

When I had finished writing the song I knew it would be an opener and even though it didn't make it on the demo I intended it to be on, I always knew that when the time came it would be the anthem that set me off... It epitomises exactly what The Jerzey Street Band's sound is and the song that made us call our sound "Freight Train Rock" ...

That's pretty much it.. I hope I haven't bored you all...

Thanks

Dave

Avenged Sevenfold's New Song Streaming Online
(Banana 101.5) Avenged Sevenfold have a new song out, "Carry On," and you can listen to the new track online!

Aside from a few summer tour dates, Avenged Sevenfold took a well-deserved breather for much of 2012. After all, the band had a pretty rough couple of years following the 2009 death of drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. In addition to dealing with the unbearable loss, the band took on a pretty hefty workload by releasing and touring extensively behind 'Nightmare.'

Now that they have sat out much of 2012 (as they had previously announced their intention to do) A7X is jumping back into the fray with 'Carry On.' This is their first new release since 2011′s 'Not Ready to Die,' a song that was recorded in April of 2011 for the 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' expansion 'Call of the Dead.' Their newest recording is to be featured on that game's sequel 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II.' Listen here.

Saigon Kick Reunite With Original Lineup
(Gibson) Florida hard rock band Saigon Kick have reunited in their original line-up, and tour dates will be announced shortly.

The reunion includes Matt Kramer, Phil Varone (ex-Skid Row), Jason Bieler, Tom Defile and Chris McLernon. The band's high point was 1992's The Lizard, which went gold with more than 500,000 copies sold. Their biggest single was "Love Is On The Way" from the same album: it peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

But like a lot of bands of the era, they got unfairly lumped in with the hair metal stuff that came before them, and while they struggled on against grunge amidst a number of line-up changes, the last Saigon Kick tour took place in 2000. more on this story

But La Torre is focusing on the task in hand: leading his outfit in a direction he believes the fans want it to go. And he's falling back on the experience of replacing former Crimson Glory singer Midnight. more on this story

Singled Out: Honey Rider
Today Honey Rider's lead singer Lindsay O'Mahony tells us about "You Can't Say That" from their latest UK album release, "Marley's Chains". Here is the story:

We started writing this backstage at The Belfast Empire in Northern Ireland while we were waiting to go onstage. The rest of the topline and lyrics were written fairly quickly during the rest of the tour however it ended up taking a long time to finalise the track from a production point of view as we wanted as many melodic riffs in the instrumentation as possible. It ended up being a labour of love for our producer Jon….but hopefully it was the worth the blood sweat and tears!!

The inspiration behind the lyrics comes from a doomed relationship – where one side is desperate to end it, but when their lover pleads for forgiveness they are unable to resist temptation and end up being manipulated back into the destructive trap they've been trying to escape from. They will continue to yo-yo until this person finds the strength to let go and move on…..and by the end of the song they realise which path they're going to take…..

We recorded this track in a studio called Karma Sound in Thailand – a once in a lifetime opportunity which came about in 2010. Despite the dark feeling behind the lyrics, our surroundings definitely had an impact on us and so the track has a very light, summery feel-good vibe to it. Originally we had the solo on guitar…but after a trip to Nashville we felt inspired by the Nashville sound and decided to replace it with the mandolin.

Recording Process: This was one of the first songs that we recorded for the new album, and as soon as we started it we knew where it would end up from a production point of view. We started recording after a nice Thai dinner and a few JD's at Karma Sound Studios in Bang Saray, Thailand and we recorded a couple of takes with the whole band playing live. A few more JD's into the early hours and the backbone of the song was done, the guitarists had found some late night inspiration for some of the riffs, we'd recorded backing vocals with everyone who was in the room at the time (even Jason's wife made it onto the final mix), and the lead vocal was done in about half an hour. It all came together so fast.

On returning to England with the track, Jon (producer) called on long-time collaborator James Sanger who had programmed and played keys for Dido's first album 'No Angel' and also Keane's 'Hopes & Fears'. The uber eccentric programmer quickly added some quirky keys & effects to the track, most of which made the final cut. Dave Bronze (bass player for Eric Clapton, Tom Jones) was also drafted in to replace the guide bass, and finally we replaced the acoustic guitar intro and solo with a mandolin, and called on Ilya Toshinskiy (Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift) to perform this duty. We had met Ilya whilst writing and recording in Nashville, he's a fantastic Russian guitarist with a deep South / Russian accent…has to be heard to be believed!

The mix of the track also turned into a labour of love, we ended up having 5 different mixes done by as many different mix engineers. The final mix itself was put together using elements of the different mixes, the vocals from one, drums/bass/guitars from another, and additional production/mandolin from another…! I think we got it right in the end! All in all, the track took about 5 hours to record the guts and 5 weeks to flesh it out how we all wanted it. Hopefully the listener enjoys the end experience.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video right here!

(hennemusic) Green Day made headlines Friday night at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas and video of their set has now gone online.

On the first of the two-night event, the band played on a bill with No Doubt, Usher, Rihanna and more.

About 30 minutes into their set, producers notified Green Day – via teleprompter – that they had one minute left on stage, causing the group to abruptly stop playing while frontman Billie Joe Armstrong addressed the situation by calling out the show's producers, flipping them a middle finger and smashing his guitar before storming off stage.

Rumour has it that Green Day's set was cut short in order to give Usher more time. Fans can now watch the band's iHeartRadio Festival set here.

Anthrax Thank Fans For Year of Worship Music
Anthrax have issued an open letter thanking fans for supporting them as they celebrate the anniversary of the release of their latest album, Worship Music. Here is what they had to say:

It was a little more than a year ago - September 13, 2011 - that Worship Music was released, and all of us in Anthrax can't believe how much has happened since then.

Our friends in the press gave the album great reviews, and so many writers singled it out as one of the best metal albums of the year. Our label just told us that Worship Music has just passed the 100,000 mark on albums sold. Since Worship Music's release, we've played 107 concerts all over the world - in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Russia, South America, and the U.K. - we've gone home to New York to not only play Yankee Stadium as one of The Big Four, but had September 14 named "Anthrax Day" in The Bronx, where Charlie, Frankie and Rob grew up.

News Bits Today!

Steven Tyler says the stage fall that sent him to rehab in 2009 and led to the near-collapse of Aerosmith turned out to be “magic.” The singer explains: “The guys were angry because it was a great tour, and I was angry. I fucked it up by falling off the stage. I know what I did. I didn’t get back to them and they started to look for other lead singers, which pissed me off even more. It was not nice at the moment. I was totally incensed that these guys didn’t call me back – but I had done something to them. It’s just the boys’ club. We can be rough with each other.” [Noisecreep]

Eighteen big-name stars were amongst those who assembled at London’s Wembley Arena to mark the 50th anniversary of Marshall Amps on Saturday. The even, which also commemorated the life of founder Jim Marshall, was hosted by comedian Al Murray and Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain. Guest musicians included Andy Fraser, Bully Duffy, Dorey Taylor, Doug Aldrich, Glenn Hughes, Joe Satriani, Kerry King, Mike Portnoy, Tim Ripper Owens, Yngwie Malmsteen and Zakk Wylde. Between them they performed a 28-song set of covers, culminating in a mass jam of Deep Purple Classic Smoke on the Water. Marshall died in April aged 88.

The London house in which Pink Floyd based themselves in the mid-1960s has sold at auction for the expected price of £1.2m. Roger Waters, Syd Barrett, Nick Mason and Rick Wright all lived at No.39 Stanhope Gardens, although not all at the same time. The building remains in the condition they left it, with old musical instruments still to be found in its storage spaces. Property developer Sham Masterman, who says she’s not a fan of the band, bought No39 and its next-door premises. She comments: “I’ll maybe put some of the stuff on eBay.” [BBC]

Poison are considering the possibility of recording a new album. Frontman Bret Michaels says: “Never say never. We have no concrete plans, but the guys are like family to me. I’ve been out all summer with them on tour with Def Leppard, and you never know what can happen.” [Delmarva Now]

The boy who appeared on the cover of Placebo‘s 1996 debut album is suing the band, saying they ruined his life. David Fox, now 28, says the image of him was shot just after his brother’s death and he’d never given permission for it to be used. The fame associated with the album’s success led to bullying and abuse, he claims, and to him dropping out of school. The band’s management say it’s a matter for their record label to deal with.

Linkin Park have become the first rock band to reach one billion views on YouTube. They’re far ahead of next-in-line Red Hot Chili Peppers, who have notched up 327m views, and Green Day, who have been watched 245m times. Pop star Justin Bieber has been viewed nearly three billion times. [NME]

The next Slipknot album will feature songwriting elements from late bassist Paul Gray, who threw the band into turmoil when he died of an accidental overdose in 2010. Percussionist Clown Crahan says: “There are songs he’s written that will be part of the next record. We’re all going to have to think like him and he’ll be there.” Meanwhile, frontman Corey Taylor is due to announce a “brand-new project” at the New York Comic Con on October 13. It’s believed to be connected with a comic book based on new Stone Sour concept album House of Gold and Bones.

The man who filmed Glenn Danzig being punched out by North Side Kings singer Danny Marianino in 2004 insists it wasn’t a stunt. Dan Stone says: “The two of them started talking and things got a little heated so I figured, ‘Let’s see where this goes.’ I had no idea what was about to happen – I just imagined I’d get some footage and Glenn Danzig and Danny talking: two guys from Jersey yelling at each other. There was no intention of doing anything with it; it was just a weird moment caught on video.” Responding to Danzig’s claims the video was altered, Stone says: “If you watch the video it’s clearly one continuous shot. There are no cuts – that’s everything.” [Decibel]

Bret Michaels: "Poison have no concrete plans for a new album at the moment."

Posted By: Metal Sludge

OCEAN CITY — Bret Michaels and his Poison bandmates just wrapped up the Rock of Ages summer tour with Def Leppard and Lita Ford, which was named after the successful Tom Cruise movie of the same name.

Now Michaels is back on the road as a solo artist in support of a new album called “Get Your Rock On.”

Michaels’ tour will include a performance with his backing band at Sunfest at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets to his postponed Sunfest 2011 concert will be honored. He will also play an acoustic show at the Moodswing nightclub in Wilmington on Tuesday.

While he gained a whole new generation of fans with his reality show “Rock of Love” and his turn on “Celebrity Apprentice,” Michaels is letting the music do the talking again at the moment. He answered a few questions about his Delmarva ties, the new album and “Margaritaville.”

You celebrated the holidays with your Poison bandmate Rikki Rockett and his family at their home at the beach in Delaware many years ago, and he still visits. Did you enjoy the area?

It’s a great area — the beach is awesome, the people are fun and it has such a cool, laid-back vibe. I’m looking forward to coming back for sure. Let’s just say both Maryland and Delaware have always showed me a good time in the past. I know both the Wilmington show and the Ocean City show are going to be parties; myself and my solo band all have a lot of family from the area, so we’re looking forward to both places.

You’re bringing your band to Ocean City and then you’ll play an acoustic show a few days later in Delaware. How different will the set lists be?

You know, I bring it 200 percent no matter what I do. The acoustic shows may be a little quieter but the energy is still there. The acoustic stuff is more spontaneous so I never know what the set list will be. But then again, so is the big rock show. We just go out there and ride the wave; our set list is just an unofficial guide.

For your new solo album, you recruited a dream team of guest players including Joe Perry, Michael Anthony, Ace Frehley and many others. Is it safe to say that the majority of them are people who were your heroes when you were a kid?

Absolutely. Most of these people I consider not just heroes, but also friends. To make music with those guys — as well as Loretta Lynn and Jimmy Buffett — is unforgettable. Working with newer artists like Lil Jon and Sal Costa has been awesome as well.

The heat seemed to be excruciating this summer throughout much of the country. How did you deal with all of the outdoor shows?

It’s certainly been hot, but I have a ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., so the heat is part of my life. I tour throughout the year across the country and abroad and I’ve seen it all weather-wise. I always joke that I’m a weather warrior now — rain or shine, heat or cold, I get out there and give it all I’ve got.

How often did you hit the arena rock shows as a kid in Pennsylvania?

As a kid with a passion for live music, I hit any concert I could. Honestly, back then there were many more tours and lots of shows to go to. You could always catch a great band. But even today I go see shows. Recently, I’ve been to Kenny Chesney/Tim McGraw, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band. And Jimmy Buffet, which is when Jimmy had me come out and do the live version of “Margaritaville” that is on the new album.

It seems like a lot of classic hard-rock bands like Van Halen and KISS are spending more time in the studio working on new material than in recent years. Any chance of a new Poison album?

Never say never. We have no concrete plans for a new album at the moment, but the Poison guys are like family to me.

I’ve been out all summer with them on the Rock of Ages tour and you never know what can happen.

"We'd just come off a tour and I took Idol and I didn't tell these guys, to be fair, and they got bummed out," says the singer. "We got into a lot of ya-ya because of tumult that happens in a band. Sometimes stuff doesn't get talked out quite properly, but it always turns out as songs down the line anyway."

When asked if he would ever return, Tyler seemed totally for it...but not as a judge. "I wouldn't go back and be a judge, but I'd be a mentor," he says. "I loved the fact that you go through 700 people, and out of that, you really can pick someone that has talent, because they have to audition anyway. Singled Out: Dead Fish Handshake
Today Dead Fish Handshake guitarist Rob Ferreira tells us about the lead single, "Turning A Blind Eye" off their latest album, "The Sixes," which was produced by Clint Lowery (Sevendust, Call Me No One). Here is the story:

After last year's "Across State Lines", it was time to start thinking about a new record and as we compiled a song-list of both new and existing songs, "Turning a Blind Eye" was one of those ideas that came together in the later days of writing and immediately became a band favorite. The end result is slightly different than the arrangement we went into the studio with. Credit to Mr. Clint Lowery (Sevendust, Call Me No One). Working with Clint was an incredibly rewarding experience. We're a band that prides itself on not only finding the right balance of song and melody but doing it in different ways each time. That was the main focus of this new record. "Turning A Blind Eye" exemplifies that intent. With its infectious chorus, we thought it'd be a great first single to bridge lyrical substance and hook sensibility.

Lyrically, the song can be interpreted in a few different ways. It's one of those fascinating things about music - it's all relative to the listener and their life stories. Essentially, the song addresses that age-old topic of 'ignorance is bliss', what it means and how it's experienced. The failure to seize that defining moment that's presented in front of you as a result of unintentionally 'turning a blind eye' is an occurrence that we've all experienced at one time or another in our lives. They say that being none the wiser about our surroundings may sometimes be beneficial. But is it really? The passing of missed opportunities can sometimes make all the difference in our worlds. It could mean the difference between refinement or confinement. Arguably, what you don't know can't hurt you, right? But is that so or is it just an excuse to be less involved with important matters that shape our future? And does that shunning behavior contribute to our metaphorical nightmares or are we content turning a blind eye? It's a topic that you can talk in great lengths about. Sometimes all you need is a 3 minute song to set the table for hours of contemplation.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

Cameraman Insists Danzig Punch Out Wasn't A Stunt
(Classic Rock) The man who filmed Glenn Danzig being punched out by North Side Kings singer Danny Marianino in 2004 insists it wasn't a stunt.

Dan Stone says: "The two of them started talking and things got a little heated so I figured, 'Let's see where this goes.' I had no idea what was about to happen – I just imagined I'd get some footage and Glenn Danzig and Danny talking: two guys from Jersey yelling at each other. There was no intention of doing anything with it; it was just a weird moment caught on video."

Responding to Danzig's claims the video was altered, Stone says: "If you watch the video it's clearly one continuous shot. There are no cuts – that's everything." [Decibel] Watch the Video here.

Rob Halford Goes Track By Track For Judas Priest's Screaming Anniversary
(hennemusic) Earlier this month, Judas Priest released the "Screaming For Vengeance – Special 30th Anniversary Edition" package.

The project features not only the remastered original album plus bonus tracks, but also a live DVD from the 1983 US Festival show, filmed in San Bernardino, CA on May 29, 1983.

Legendary singer Rob Halford talks about the album in the track-by-track commentary below: "The Hellion" (instrumental) – "We'd never done that type of opening before. And obviously it came from Glenn (Tipton, guitars) and Ken (K. K. Downing, former guitarist) at the time. I can't really remember how it came together in the studio, was it one person? Was it collective? I don't know. But we were always experimenting, always trying to do something that we hadn't done previously. We were inspired by what Brian May was doing with a lot of the Queen stuff. We've always been big fans of Queen. But Brian was doing those same types of multi-guitar track things. As you get a bit more experienced in a band, you understand the value of setting the scene – we quickly thought, 'We can use this as an intro tape.' And we did. In terms of set-up, in terms of getting an audience's attention, it just works magically, even now, when we did it at our last show at Hammersmith – once you start it, the audience just grabs onto it right away."

"Electric Eye" – "I love the rhythmic set up on that song. Emotionally again, it starts roaring right from the opening bars. We're a metal band and if you're that sort of band it's important that you make sure you have that type of attitude and approach within your first two or three tracks. It reinforces who you are and what you're trying to do. The way that Electric Eye kicks off is very much a statement, an assertive statement… It's a really good song and I think it's just got the attitude and the in-your-face drama that Priest has always tried to put forward." Heart Discuss New Book In TV Interview
(hennemusic) Heart sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson's new autobiography, "Kicking And Dreaming: A Story Of Heart, Soul And Rock & Roll" was published last week.

The sisters stopped by CBS New York's The Couch to talk with hosts Carolina Bermudez and John Elliott about the memoir, their history, and some of the unique pressure they felt as pioneering women in rock.

"Especially in the MTV generation," says Ann, "When it first came out, suddenly women were highly objectified even more than before. It was a rapid change and I think I was at the vortex of that."
