Today's Day in Rock News!

Dave Grohl Rejoins Queens of the Stone Age?
(Banana 101.5) Queens of the Stone Age have been plugging away at a new album for some time now, we may have figured out why.
Just moments before frontman Josh Homme broke the news of drummer Joey Castillo's departure from QOTSA (via Antiquiet), the band posted a pic on their official Facebook page featuring all the information fans need to understand the situation. Dave Grohl is back! Maybe.

Rumors of a new QOTSA album go back as far as 2008, but the project was put on hold for Josh Homme's side project, Them Crooked Vultures (another project featuring Dave Grohl on drums). The band has recently confirmed that recording sessions of their next album are back underway, with most expecting their sixth effort in 2013. Read more and see the photo here.

Six Feet Under Frontman Punches Cattle Decapitation Singer
Word broke online yesterday that Cattle Decapitation have dropped off the Autumn Apocalypse Tour after Six Feet Under frontman Chris Barnes reportedly punched Cattle Decapitation singer Travis Ryan.

Cattle Decapitation announced they were pulling out of the tour via their Facebook page and Ryan reportedly told his side of the story via his personal Facebook page in a posting that was later removed. Metal Injection pulled quotes from Ryan where he is said to have posted comments to his original post explaining what happened. They report he told fans:

"He couldn't handle the fact that we were destroying him nightly on merch and talked sh*t about us on stage last night. I went to confront him about that and he sucker punched me as I was talking. He immediately RAN out the door and fled to his bus like he does every night when the two fans that are left for their show are trying to get him to sign something.

"We're leaving because we have no interest in bringing more people to the chris barnes show. There was no "fight". He punched me, RAN away and a few people saw it. I just walked out told his tour manager the deal, wrapped up the merch and left." Metal Injection has all of the comments here.

Shadows Fall Cancel Tour Dates For Medical Reasons
Shadows Fall have canceled their tour dates this week due to drummer Jason Bittner's medical issues.

The group announced on Tuesday that Thursday's date in Fayetteville, NC through Sunday's date in Jacksonville, Florida have been canceled.

Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner explains, " For those who may not know- I was diagnosed last week with acute pancreatitis - for most of the last Shadows Fall tour I was in a lot of abdominal pain which I figured was either food poisoning or a stomach bug, unfortunately it turns out to be a little more serious than that. After a trip to the ER last Monday I received the diagnosis and some pain treatment. That being said it pains me to say that due to Doctor's orders I am not cleared (nor do I even feel like I could pick up a stick) to begin touring until after I see the specialist and my blood work is back to normal, I apologize to the fans cause it kills me to not be there, but my health comes first and I need to recuperate in order to return 110%" more on this story

By 1967's all too brief 'Summer of Love', The Doors had found themselves at the top of the charts with "Light My Fire" from their debut album. Lindsey Buckingham Looking Forward To Fleetwood Mac Reunion
(Gibson) Rolling Stone recently spoke to Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, who is currently finishing up a solo acoustic tour, and getting ready to release a digital live album on November 13.

The guitarist talked about Fleetwood Mac's upcoming tour next year: "Fleetwood Mac is gonna start rehearsing probably the beginning of February and I'm actually looking forward to it. I miss those guys."

Those are comforting words for Fleetwood Mac fans, because Buckingham hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with his band mates "There was a period of time where there was a level of frustration because the Fleetwood Mac agenda seemed to loom a lot larger... I would try to put together material [for] a solo album and there would be some kind of intervention... If you are gonna participate in a band, you've got to be a band member in good standing, and you've got to think about the needs of the whole." more on this story

Singled Out: Derelict
Today Derelict vocalist Eric Burnet and guitarist Max Lussier tell us about the song "Yours To Surpass" from their new album "Perpetuation". Here is the story:

Max:Yours to Surpass will always hold a special place for me because it's the first song I ever wrote for Derelict. Musically I tried to write the song as singular stream of consciousness, with very little repetition and a non-traditional structure. I actually had to write out the music and then learn it, as there were some parts I could not originally play like the very technical middle section. Although it's the shortest song on the record, I find it's quite action-packed and fairly complex.

Eric: When Max brought the YTS music to the table, I knew the lyrics would have to be bold and strong to match the energetic statement he had put together. I ended up writing about my belief that notions of fate and destiny are traps that keep people stuck in bad situations. The lyrics really encourage people to take command of their own lives, to make drastic changes in order to pursue happiness, and to always avoid slavery, be it to a person, institution, philosophy or pre-conceived notion. "Your fate is yours to surpass!"

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the album right here!

"I remember moving to Kingston," explains bassist Ben Shepherd. "We lived downtown and you look out on the beach and the water and stuff cause it's a bay…and there's this huge fake Hollywood lettering, TAREE, and it was all totally overgrown. So I wrote that music before we broke up before. I always wanted Chris or us to do it, because it had this certain mood."

Soundgarden will release their new album, "King Animal," this Tuesday, November 13. Check out the preview here.

Aerosmith Explain Another Last Goodbye
(hennemusic) Aerosmith's new album, "Music From Another Dimension," is now available.

The album's closing track is the ballad, "Another Last Goodbye," written by Steven Tyler and songwriter Desmond Child.

"We're a band again, and holy shit, we're in the studio," Tyler tells Rolling Stone of the sessions in Boston and Los Angeles. "We had just gotten over breaking up again and going through the tumult that we go through at various times of our life – because we know how to be real good onstage, but I don't know how to be a social animal. I can work a room, but when it comes to being intimate and honest and open, I don't know how to offer that up all the time . . . We were in the studio and evoking what's been tied up inside of us for years and getting that off our chest."
