BOSTON (FOX25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - What could unite American Idol Judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler with Red Sox slugger David Ortiz? Motorcycles and community service. The unlikely pair has teamed up to honor our nation's service members, veterans and their families while raising needed funds for the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program.
Tyler and Ortiz are supporting the “Ride for Our Heroes” on September 24. Funds raised through the motorcycle ride will provide clinical care and other services to the many veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan affected by combat stress and/or traumatic brain injuries and counseling support for their families. The Home Base Program is raffling off a custom-built Dirico motorcycle with a baseball paint job, signed by Steven Tyler. The Ride for our Heroes kicks off from starting points throughout New England, and concludes with a Rider Appreciation Party at Manchester Harley-Davidson in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program provides clinical care and support services to service members and veterans of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, throughout New England, who are affected by combat stress and traumatic brain injury (TBI) – the “invisible wounds of war.” Home Base also provides counseling for families; education for clinicians and community members; and research in the understanding and treatment of PTSD and TBI.
