Paul McCartney says he doesn't mind hip-hop sampling and has even approved some dance producers to use
Beatles hits for remixes.
According to a new report from Britain's
The Sun, the former
Beatle has said that, unlike his record company, he is in favor of
Dangermouse's 2006
Grey Album. That record combined a remix of both the Beatles' White Album and rapper
Jay-Z's
Black Album.
"I didn't mind when something like that happened with the
Grey Album. But the record company minded. They put up a fuss. But it was like, 'Take it easy guys, it's a tribute,'" McCartney told the
Beatles and Black Music documentary on BBC Radio in the U.K.
Macca is hoping for more hip-hop artists to sample Beatles material in the future.
"It's exactly what we did in the beginning - introducing black soul music to a mass white audience. It's come full circle, it's well cool," said McCartney.
"When you hear a riff similar to your own your first feeling is 'rip-off'. After you've got over it you think, 'Look at that, someone's noticed that riff.'"
The
Beatles and Black Music documentary is being broadcast on Monday, February 28.

Tickets for Heart and Def Leppard will be available via Ticketmaster and the Wharf's box office starting March 4 and will cost from $39.50 to $89.50.
The news comes in the midst of Heart's resurgence behind their 2010 effort
Red Velvet Car. The album hit stores last August and debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, giving
Nancy and
Ann Wilson their first top 10 debut since 1990.
"It's very hard-rock acoustic - that's something Heart does that you don't really find elsewhere very much . . . It's not a digitally constructed sound at all, or a layered sound. It's a very on-the-spot, human conversational sound," Nancy told the
Seattle Times of the new album just before the release.
